I have seen Conrad's shop for years as I have passed by on the way home. I have an old XP machine that I use for image management and editing, as I used to be a professional photographer. It has been acting up for some months. I went to Conrad because my regular computer guy doesn't seem to be all that good with repair. I didn't really want to replace this old machine, as I would have had to spend some thousands in new hardware and new software, and I don't do it for a living anymore. I thought the problem would be in the video card or the video drivers. That was wrong. It turned out the problem was a broken fan mount. He could have told me it was any number of things, expensive things, and I wouldn't have known the difference. Conrad exceeded all expectations. He repaired the fan mount. He upgraded the RAM to the max. He replaced my old hard drive, which was also having some problems, with a newer faster one with 2.5 times the storage, and cloned the old hard drive onto the new one, so I didn't have to replace old software with new software. He installed fixes to XP, and then helped me download photoshop from the web at no charge to replace the one on the new hard drive which had refused to work. Given the age of my system, I could not even begin to manage that on my own. As far as I can tell, I now have a much better computer, functioning far better than the old one ever did. It wasn't as cheap as I had hoped, but given what I could have spent for not such a huge change in performance, not to mention hundreds of hours spent learning new software and dealing with all of the issues present, I would say that I am WAY AHEAD of the game. Conrad is one of the few computer people I have ever met whose knowledge seems extensive and sure enough to tackle just about any job, diagnose the problems correctly, and fix them. My boyfriend was in need of computer service fast for his fijitsu. We were going to take it to Best buy and decided to take it to Conrads. He's been around for awhile but never thought of taking it to a neighborhood computer service store....guest what? we did.... and recieved it the very next day and wow! he is pretty darn good. This place has been here forever and when my current MacbookPro started dying again a couple of days ago I just wanted to save the data of course and possibly save the computer as well. Instead of going to one of the bigger, slicker places, decided to take it to Conrad since he's close to me and give it a try. He saved the data, and after a thorough diagnostic, pinpointed the exact problem (laptop unfortunately not salvageable). I was thrilled to just save what was on the hard drive. After a 2 day computer nightmare wherein I spent a total of 5 hours either on hold with Apple support, or waiting around to talk to the 'genius's' at the Apple store in Emeryville when my iPad Mini and cell phone developed a series of connectivity problems, I decided to call Conrad - who was recommended by a friend in the neighborhood. Conrad came over the same day - asked a couple of critical questions (that none of the 5 different techs I talked to at Apple bothered to ask) - and within a half an hour, he not only solved all the problems with the iPad and phone, but checked some connections on my laptop which were not properly set up. Conrad just updated my old Dell. His service is outstanding! He's very knowledgeable about all computers and systems, and was quickly able to tell me what could be done for my laptop. He also went over my other options for another new or used computer in case I chose that option. I stuck with my old trusted workhorse, and Conrad had it overhauled in 2 days plus he gave me a tutorial on the new operating system. Having someone that can translate tech info into terms I can understand is incredibly valuable. He also does work on site for businesses. I would never consider big box store service. This is the worse computer service I have encounter ever. I took my computer in for service and was told the drive and power supply had to be replaced. This cost me more than $300.00. Less than 60 days later I experience the same problems (Computer would not power on). This time, I was told it's the mother board, and no refund or discount would be offered. I took the computer to Best Buy Geek Squad, they clean it, re-in stalled the operating disk, tighten a few things up, and the computer works fine, all for $65.00. My experience with Conrad of Conrad's Computer Services was patient, thorough, fair and monetarily pleasing. I went to him with symptoms of a bad mother board which could have cost around $500 in parts alone, and through careful diagnosis, he found that it was simply a broken part of the base plate that was literally bumping into the mother board every time I opened or closed the lid of my laptop. He not only didn't try to sell me a marked up replacement part, he recommended that I look on my own so it would be cheaper and he would only charge me the labor. A sign of an honest business man.
