Using Yelp Projects, I filled out the repair request, and the bids came pouring in! YY Computer offered to do diagnostics and software install for $100. YY Computer is in Oakland Chinatown on Jackson St. I made an appt, and dropped by in the morning. While I was there, they did a quick check and found the hard drive (HD) to be damaged. They repaired my PC and upgraded my HD to 1 TB. It took about 2 business days. When I went to pickup my PC, they switched it on and show me the new HD. I'm very pleased with my experience. When I reset my laptop, I closed my laptop off while it was still installing app. Once I shut down the laptop without letting it fully download. It stopped installing and now it just says " the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. Long overdue review but this is THE place if you're looking for trustworthy, capable and honest service. My MacBook Pro 2016 was having issues where the screen wouldn't turn on anymore (seemed positional and so disappointing considering how much $$ I had dropped on it when it first came out) I came in expecting to have to shell hundreds of dollars to get it fixed. The owner took a look and printed me out info about the unit having a known issue with the backlight. He told me to go to the Apple Store and show them that and they will fix it. He could've charged me to do it. I was skeptical since the Apple care has lapsed but anyways off I went to an Apple store in 2022. And they were able to fix my baby back up! For free! This review should have been written years ago. These guys (I only see Tony working there these days), put the "C" in customer service. Not only are they knowledgeable, responsive, and personable (which can be a challenge w some IT folks), they are generous with their time. Many times I've brought my computer to their shop, while they're busy. Even though they spent up to 20 minutes diagnosing things, they wouldn't accept a nickel. I was actually glad the time they found something wrong so that I could pay them for the help they had generously given me. Granted the charge was less than $100 for what was the equivalent of open heart surgery on my computer. They said that like most tech businesses, they've taken a little bit of a hit due to COVID and people's tendency to purchase increasingly cheap equipment rather than repairing the ones they already have. Saved my PC! Tony is a genius problem solver. I did a custom PC build in April and was experiencing crashes whenever I ran a specific 3D software. I had taken my computer to 3 other repair people who all told me I needed to replace parts and when I did that and it still was crashing, I was frustrated and stumped. Not only did they do everything they said they would do, they even picked up the 27-inch iMac and delivered it to me when done, as I had a temporary disablement at the time. Unfortunately, the case for my pre build was too small causing my processor to overheat and the fans to go off like a leaf blower.
