I really appreciate the owner, Bruce's expertise and generosity towards his customers. My job was too small and not a fit for his service (fixing a blown $200 consumer speaker). They did a great job of fixing my little Yamaha amp. It was in better shape after the repair than before I broke the input jack. He's a little on the expensive side, but it was less than buying a new amp. And he made a good point: fixing it and continuing to use it is much better for the planet than trashing it and have it wind up in some landfill. All in all, a good experience. read more

Im so lucky to have found Bruce. I bought a Juno 106 on Reverb and it came with some faulty voice chips. Reverb was great at taking care of the situation and pays for the repair. They recommended East Bay AudIo repair and they were right. Bruce replace all the vice chips and did a full service on my synth. He is very knowledgeable and straight forward when it comes to diagnostics. He walks y Ou thru the whole process, nicely and professionally. I have other synths that will need service at some point . I'm writing this in response to the owners comments. Check out my previous review and it will save you the headaches I endured dealing with this place. I didn't know there were any policies for this place except treating customers like garbage and taking their money. That policy seems consistent. He claims that my Intersound IVP preamp "developed problems that were not present at time of service." Check out the pics I posted of my service ticket. The nature of service says: Noise. And that's what we heard when he put it up on the bench. He forgot and now he conveniently claims there was no noise issue. All he did was clean the pots and rewire an input that was never used or will ever be used. But the main issue: Noise/Buzzing was never addressed but I was still charged. For other musicians, check out how vague the service ticket is (pic). There's barely any mention of the service issues which is a big RED FLAG. I felt really UNCERTAIN about the quality of repair after I left. regarding my other amp, he never mentioned a discounted fee. If you read the owner's comment, you can see how condescending and cynical he is towards his customers and their needs. He doesn't take any accountability and just mocks honest customers. Total disregard for people. That's messed up. I'm leaving this comment for my fellow musicians and not to do a back and forth with the owner. You guys work hard for your money and there's no worse feeling as a musician when your gear takes a month to get fixed and when you pick it up it's still not fixed. and you're like oh great, I gotta take it to another repair shop. You got gigs coming up or recording time, and now you're really set back. You know what that's like right?....You know how it feels when you've been ripped off before?....That's what you'll feel like here. read more

I called Bruce up regarding getting a keyboard repaired (along with a couple other possible jobs), based on a friend's recommendation of having work done here over the years. He was glad to talk about what might be involved. I called before bringing it in to make sure he'd be there (it is a one person business, and he sometimes needs to do parts runs). He gave me good directions on how to find the place, was there when I arrived, explained the options, and asked me the maximum I was willing to spend - really important for repairing old equipment, because the cost of repairs could exceed the value of the equipment. He repaired the keyboard to full working spec, even though there was a cracked circuit board, requiring quite a bit of work. And, kept the cost within the agreed-upon limit. I need to go on the road so I had to make the quick decision whether to repair prior to the trip or at the destination. Easty Bay Audio Repair was very kind to give me the assessment on the condition of my keyboard over the phone, gave me some options to think over. This guy Bruce is a dishonest business person and "tech". He dropped my 24 channel Soundcraft recording mixer, and did not repair the damage he caused. He refused to take responsibility for the damage he caused and never made the repair leaving my board smelling smokey and like something is burning. I should have sued him but did not, Do not trust any equipment you care about with this jack ass. read more

I have a vintage Lab L5 solid state amp that died on me suddenly. I called a few of my pro musician friends, including some highly respected guitar repairmen, and virtually all of them recommended this place. Yes, it's a bit funky and a one-man operation, but my amp was fixed quicker than expected and within the estimate. I had a Roland jc 120, that was ok, had a few bugs With it, got the recommendation from guitar center to go down, he cleaned it up for me and I though it was gonna be 85 since he said 85 per hour, ended up charging me 68 and it sounds amazing, you would not be wrong to come here. read more

I went to Bruce with a pair 47 year old hifi amps in need of reconditioning. He very clearly explained what was wrong with them and provided me with several options for repair and restoration. I called the owner, made an appointment, its an owner operator shop, so, if he has to buy parts or pick up gear,.... I don't think its a drop in shop. He's got a lot of old and eccentric stuff, real good place to look for some tube, or strange part. Bruce Bjerke's East Bay Audio Repair is a bit tucked away, full or cool antiques, but its also a shop that's been up and running for 20 plus yrs. He asked the right questions, made sure I was ready for what he had in mind, and was very prompt in the turn around. Best of all, I took him a couple of vintage Fender Amps, a twin and the super reverb, the twin was dogging badly, for well under the agreed upon ceiling price, Bruce really made that amp sing again, and he's not the first really good tech that worked on it. I highly recommend, can't believe there aren't more reviews. I own a recording studio, Moogs, Neve, tube mics, Nuemann V72s, vintage guitar and bass amps, rare and common foot pedals, and a lot more, Bruce cheerfully answers to all of it, like a miracle, a one stop answer to all my problems. And best of all, you don't have to wonder what's going to happen to the irreplaceable guts to some of your more rare vintage signal paths, he's honest. read more

Bought a used amp on craigslist, got home and it was making an awful buzzing sound when I played through it. Brought it in to Bruce who was really helpful in narrowing down the issue to my guitar and not the amp! I've dealt with amp repair people in the past who would have sold me on a complete overhaul of the amp before figuring out the actual problem, but Bruce was really upfront and genuine.
