Well, I kind of stuffed up an already tethered unlocked phone about a month ago. I take a couple/few phones over to some colleagues when I go to China a couple times a year. I have unlocked a few phones myself when the firmware was in the 3's, so a little daunting as everything seems to be 4.0 or greater. The one I stuffed up was in a perpetual loop where I couldn't for the life of me restore the phone either via iTunes or the available file downloads all across the internet. I must have spent HOURS trying to deal with this problem. It seemed I did something to the baseband unintentionally. I e-mailed and texted with Joe about a 4.1.1 firmware phone I picked up yesterday which I wanted jailbroken and unlocked; again, something I wasn't leary of doing in the past, but with my last performance to the phone described above, I had my worries. So I met with Joe (at the coffee shop where he set up shop!) while he finished up with another client and got to work on both my phones, not batting an eye with any worry as to my troubles. In between working on my software issues, he was texting, e-mailing, and on the phone--the guy can multi-task! I was close to half done and another client had come in off the street with a broken screen which Joe managed to fix with a phone pinched in his neck, still clicking on one of his computers, and handling a new part along with tools. That job was finished while my second phone was being finalized. I had someone else look at my first phone last month, but they couldn't fix the problem. The guy knew I was going to China and suggested I would need to have one of the electronic chips replaced on a hardware circuit board; WTF??? Joe kind of shrugged when I told him this story. Joe got the phone up and running and I was pleased; I thought I may have to sell the dang phone as parts. Luckily that will not be the case. I had to drive to Berkeley from the Peninsula, but it was well worth getting a proper fix. When Joe graduates from Berkeley, I hope he will still do this on the side; otherwise, he is going to leave a big gap in reputable, honest, and knowledgeable (Joe is part program-writer for some of the software fixes) iPhone service. I told my story today to my daughter and she said should she ever have a problem with her iPhone 4, she would use "my" guy! ;-) read more

I had a very troubling visit. People: don't unlock your phone and hand it to anyone, unless you can see what they are doing. Joe asked me to unlock my phone for him without explaining why, and then took it from where I was sitting in the lobby and went to his desk. I didn't have a good feeling about this, and after a couple minutes I came to check in on why what he was doing with my unlocked phone (that contains tons of private/valuable data, of course). I could see that Joe was on some sort of website on my phone, but as I sat down next to him, he tilted the phone away from my view so I couldn't see what he was doing. After a few more taps on the screen, he put it on the table and replaced the cracked glass. I asked him why he needed access to my phone when working on it, and he said so he could change the display settings to check on broken pixels. But he claimed that he wasn't doing anything on my phone besides looking at the home screen. Folks--I'm quite sure I saw him on a website on my phone. Here's another worrying thing: I put the phone on airplane mode before handing it to him. When I got it back, it was logged onto the WiFi where he worked. That WiFi network was WEP code protected, but I had never entered the WEP code. I'd never been there before. When I clicked 'Forget This Network' and tried to log back into that particular WiFi network, I got a WEP code prompt. How did my phone get logged onto that WiFi network? Joe said he had no idea, and changed the subject. I could be wrong, but I think there is a very realistic chance that Joe is illegally accessing sensitive data on peoples phones. He deserves 1* if only because he asked for me to type in my code and then took it away from me, and went to a place where I couldn't see what he was doing. That's extremely unprofessional. Phones contain too much sensitive data for that behavior to be acceptable. In the realistic chance that Joe is being untruthful with what he is doing on peoples phones when he has access to them, it is potentially criminal. I'm sorry to make insinuations when I'm not 100% sure of what happened, but I feel it's my duty to express my concerns here. In any case, don't let someone have access to your unlocked phone unless you are watching what they are doing the whole time. read more

I thought it was so sketch reading his reviews on yelp and they were all 5 stars. I thought this guy must have some scam going on, and he wants to meet at a cafe. SKETCH!... Boy, was I wrong. Joe is AWESOME! I heard about him from a friend of a friend and you can't beat his price. I was looking through yelp to find a way to fix my cracked iphone screen. As it says on his yelp page, he charges $50 to repair it. Other places were gonna charge $79 bucks or higher. I called him up and left a voice message and he called me back within the hour and I got my phone fixed the hour after that. My friend and I both had cracked screens and went to see him. he repaired my phone in seriously 5 minutes. it was remove the glass and replace it with a new one. My other friend took just a few minutes longer because her phone was cracked for like 2 months. I knew that he would probably offer a free case, as per everyone's testimonial on yelp, but me and my friend were talking amongst each other about buying a screen protector, and he offered to throw that in too, no extra charge. SCORE! Also, he was on the phone with another client (me and my friend are assuming) and he started busting out with some spanish! So, he's bilingual! read more

A lot of the reviews on here talk about how Joe can fix broken screens and unlock your phone, but I did not see too many reviews with my situation--I went camping and some water seeped into my phone. As a result, my phone was stuck in "headphone mode" and, when I made a call, I could not hear the other person's voice and they could not hear mine. I went on youtube and google and there were many suggestions for how to fix this problem--i tried all of them and none of them worked. I texted Joe this problem and that same night I had an appointment for the following morning. I brought my phone to Joe and he had researched the problem and knew how to fix it. Within three hours, he had replaced the headphone jack, speakers, and charging port. All of this for the very reasonable price of $75. Given that apple would have charged me way more to fix the phone, and, most likely, would have suggested I just buy a new phone, I am very grateful that Joe could fix my phone. He was very courteous and professional and an extremely nice guy. If you have a problem with your phone, I suggest you bring it Joe! read more

I have been using Joe' Services for close to (3) years. The guys is a genius. I would like to add some comments to how Joe operates. First of all, you can call him or book an appointment online. Second, he will text you an address. Third, you meet with him at a local coffee shop to get your repairs done. Lastly, viola your iPhone is done. I really think is absurd to see how people just like to bad mouth a business. I don't see a problem of not having a store front. What happened to the old days, where people will meet up at a cafe to do business? C'mon, lets be real, if you want to pay less, expect business owners to find ways to service you better by sacrificing a store front. It is obvious, better quality goods and better service with a decrease of cost. Econ 101. Higher cost is equivalent to mediocre service, higher cost, and longer turn around time. At the end of this, you get for what you pay for. Joe just keep on doing what you are doing, you'll be fine. read more

okay, so if you haven't seen joe do his magic in the little coffee shop in Berkeley you're missing out. I've had him replace my earpiece because i was only able to use the speaker phone function on my phone. I've also had him unlock, jailbreak. Watching him do his stuff to your iphone is worth the price of repair alone. So i needed my ipad and an ipod touch jailbroken. Sent Joe a text and come to find out he's temporarily in NY. No way I'm gonna trust anyone else to my apple stuff so I put the ipad and the ipod touch in a flat rate box with delivery confirmation and send it off. Three days later he has it and now it's on it's way back. Not quite as easy as just going downtown Berkeley but pretty easy considering he's in NY. He said he should be back in November, hope nothing breaks anytime soon but if it does you know where I'm gonna go. I can't see any reason to get Applecare as long as Joe does his magic. read more

The other day my iphone 3gs just shut off. I couldn't get help from the apple store that I purchased it at. I could not get help at the ATT store. Except for them telling me that I could purchase a new one. I Tried everything from online help to calling tech support with apple. Its seems as though everyone just wanted me to buy a new IPHONE. Found Joe on Craigslist. Told him my phone was not working. And he just said bring it in, I will fix. Just like that! Gave me an appointment same day. He was set up in a nice coffee shop in Berkeley and it seemed to me that he knew everyone in who came into the shop or they either knew him. I waited as he promptly fixed my iphone. Solved the problem charged me a very reasonable price. I was very satisfied with the service and knowledge that Joe displayed while fixing my iphone. I will be sure to refer all my friends to him. I was looking for an iPhone shop close to UCB, and the yelp reviews led me to Joe. He was great. I had purchased a iphone 3gs off amazon that was purportedly "factory unlocked", but it wasn't. The phone was acting strangely and would not hold a charge. It would only work with an AT&T SIM card, and would suddenly die even though it reported 50% charge. Joe changed the battery and found that the old one was expanded and impinging on the internal electronics. This may have saved the phone. He then did a true factory unlock, and upgraded IOS to 6.0. Whole thing was done in about 45 minutes - while I had lunch at a nice little cafe close by. Do not hesitate to give Joe your business - he is professional, fast, and extremely courteous to boot. Joe is a real class act. I brought him a used 3gs I purchased off Craigslist that stopped working. It turns out the battery malfunctioned, causing it to expand far enough to push the screen out of the body. Joe disassembled the phone and performed multiple tests on several different components right in front of me, explaining the process and the results in layman's terms. Bottom line was that the phone was not repairable. When I asked what I owed him for the diagnostic testing and for his time, Joe declined any fee. Like anyone else, at one time or another, I've been ripped off, overcharged and/or have had to deal with bad repairs. I ended up with a brick from Craigslist but meeting this uber-competent iPhone repair guy who isn't just out to make a buck really restored my faith. Thanks, Joe. read more

I met joe last week and I needed my phone unlocked for tmobile and my phone was from AT&T. I tried getting it unlocked from other people I knew for free but everyone I knew was having a hard time doing it and I needed a phone line fast. Guess who came to my rescue? (No homo) Joe!!! I went to him early in the morning and he unlocked my iPhone 4S in 8 to 7 mins!!!!!!! WOW! He is a genius when it comes to unlocking iPhones! The only problem I had was finding the place and I called him and he was working in front of the coffee shop. man all my friend kept telln me just get a metro pcs phone... i was like f$*k that i love my iphone and will keep it going.. i found joe's add and couldnt beleave he was what i needed and fast ..jailbroken iphone are somuch better ,its like we have been cheated without it.....at first with my calls at times it didnt ring in my ear and couldnt hear when ppl picked up but its gotten alot better ..i have an iphone 3g 8g and im happy....it was quick and easy ......the only thing i dnt like is how the programing kinda took over my phone i cant send pic's but i dnt have the right rate plane to do so but my phone dosent have the option to do so either.. next month i will upgrade to a new plan and il see what happens.......... read more

So i woke up one morning and my phone's screen was just not working at all. My screen had already been cracked but the sensitivity had never had problems. Immediately i hopped on yelp and found that Joe had been given good reviews so i gave him a call and set up an appointment for two hours later. it took joe thirty minutes to repair my screen and even replaced a home button i had been missing for months. not only that, but i also had some wiring problems with my phone, due to a previous shop that attempted to repair my screen months before but did so hastily and inefficiently, that joe fixed free of charge! he was reasonable and very helpful, would easily recommend him to any one having problems with their phone! read more
