Note that I do not believe Wireless Option still has a physical storefront on Solano anymore. When I contacted Gary in January, he picked up an iPad and an iPod for repair. He returned the iPad with the necessary repairs (and I paid for that), but not the iPod. I've followed up half a dozen times since late February. At first, it sounded like he had just forgotten about that part of the job; he said he was out of the country, and would follow up soon; after another follow-up, he said he'd order the parts. Once again I'm here to happily sing the praises of Gary. A few days ago, the battery in my iPhone 8 plus starting plummeting in power during normal use. 97% to 17% in about 15 minutes. Yikes! A check of the Battery condition in Settings stated that it was "severely degraded." A very odd development as it had only been about six months ago that Gary had replaced it, so there was no way that it could have become worn out that fast. I guess the previous replacement was just a bad egg! I texted Gary, we made arrangements to drop off my phone at the Solano location and once again, Gary's word was good as gold. This was my first time having to repair the back glass of an iphone so I did not know the intense labor that went into it. I seriously can't thank these guys enough for the time and headache they saved me. A year ago my phone cracked in a way that left half of the screen completely unresponsive. This meant that I couldn't unlock my phone with passcode or Face ID, and thus couldn't get into my phone to back it up. The Apple store here in berkeley quoted me 350$ for the screen repair, told me I might lose all my data if I let them fix it, and referred me to a "data recovery" specialist who (I'm not kidding) said it would be over $1,000 to recover my data. For those keeping track, thats minimum $1,350 I would've spent on fixing my phone and keeping my data if I went through Apple. As a college student I absolutely don't have that money, but i tried saving for Apples data recovery partner anyways because the past 6 years of my life (including evidence of a crime committed against me that I needed in order to make a police report) would've been gone if I just let Apple fix my screen and wipe my data. Enter Gary and Wireless Options- for $150 he came out to my house, fixed my phone in about an hour (I'm talking screen, haptics, Face ID all working right), all while reassuring me that my data would be totally safe. And it was! I seriously can't recommend these guys enough!! I had to come to terms eventually that the good ol' tape-and-ignore method that I'd been using for my cracked phone screen would no longer work. Not after I'd slipped on a rainy day and smashed my phone so badly that parts of it looked nearly opaque; it was shattered into that many pieces. At some point it was time to stop neglecting it. Wireless Options have two locations: one in Oakland, and one in Albany. I noticed someone who left a poor rating saying "no one was there when I got to the store" -- but it's good to always try to reach out for a consult first in these situations. I'd want to know if the problem is fixable and what the quote would be, as well as give the people doing the repairs a heads up as to what to expect/what materials they need before I show up. Gary, the owner, is super responsive via text. I reached out via the form on his website first, but got nervous since I really need a working phone for my job. So I called him soon afterwards, and had a chat where he asked for my phone model and the issues, was immediately able to reassure me that the issue is fixable, and helped me navigate which exact model my phone might be. I got my phone off the Verizon website, and it turns out it's a little vague about what the specific model numbers are. Gary covered all bases and sent me two Amazon links to two possible screens, within my conservative budget. It was easy enough to return the incorrect screen after we figured out my phone's model! So I ordered and was on my way to Wireless Options in Albany within the week. It's a small shop with a table outside showing off a lot of examples of the cracked screens that Gary and his assistant, Andreas, have fixed... many screens that were removed and replaced! Andreas was running the shop on the day that I came in. He gave it a quick look over and let me know to be back within a little over and hour... done. But when I came back, my worst fear was realised: I was not getting a fixed phone back. In fact, the phone battery had burst into flames! I was horrified, because there must have been some damage to the rest of the phone -- the battery had started smouldering inside it, after all! But it turned out Andreas' quick thinking had saved my phone. He had been fixing the phone, got the new screen working, and could've moved on... but he noticed the smouldering and quickly removed the battery from the phone. Good thing, too, because he handed me the smoky remains of my battery. It was in ashes and peeling apart like paper. Incredible reflexes! At this point, Andreas had a quick call with Gary and they determined that they would buy me a new battery and replace it. So I went on my way, hoping to get my phone back in the following few days. What follows next is not Gary and Andreas' fault. It's a testament of how well they stuck through with me. They had ordered the new battery from Amazon, but around this time Omicron was at its peak. For a few weeks, delivery services were losing packages and delivering late throughout the whole country! Gary kept me up to date and we saw that one day the battery's tracking had just stopped. He re-ordered swiftly. Shortly afterwards, I dropped by and met Gary. He explained honestly that the tool that was used to pry the phone open was metal instead of the plastic, which they usually use. It had scratched the battery! Gary told me that only the labour fee would be necessary, since they'd used the wrong tool. Honestly, I believe that it was the seller's mistake for providing an inappropriate tool as part of the repair kit! But Gary's willingness to tell me and to cover the battery cost was just proof that he's operating a great and genuine business. So I went on my way... a few days later, I'd noticed light coming through the slit between the screen and the screen frame in my phone. But the phone still operated well, so I shrugged it off. I popped it in a case and went on my way. But after a few months, I dropped the phone and the screen popped right out! I wasn't surprised... it's what's expected for a $40 screen and repair kit. It was time for another visit. I re-ordered the screen, resolving to just get it working so I could transfer the data, and then I'd order a new phone. It seemed about time. Again, Andreas repaired my phone. This time, it was ready to pick up 40 min later. I'd explained the issues with the light shining through the cracks when I dropped it off, and Andreas told me upon returning the phone that it would help to put the phone under a heavy book for a day to set the glue. It has been functioning perfectly since! I now don't see the need to get a new phone anytime soon. Gary charges great prices; the two repairs + the cost of the two screens is less than a new phone. Given it's working like it's not long out of the box, this is a fantastic deal! Thank you, Gary and Andreas! They are honest, affordable, and do great work.
