I had to get my MacBook 13-inch screen replaced and I was extremely happy to have found this place. The staff was so knowledgeable, friendly and they gave me the options for replacement, fees and found additional repairs that could be done free of cost due to Apple recall items. I dropped off my laptop on a Tuesday and it was ready by Monday the following week. It was a little longer than I thought, but they had to order the parts from Apple so, it made sense that it would take that long due to the delivery of parts. When I received my laptop, it looked BRAND NEW! I was really amazed at the quality of work they did. I highly recommend!!. I think they have different price options based on Apple warranty, unfortunately my coverage had expired so I had to pay full price for screen replacement but it was worth it! I suggest you check out their website and maybe make an appointment because when I went in as a walk in, there was a little bit of a line, maybe 10min wait, and parking wasn't great so, consider that if you are on a time crunch! read more

Tried this shop after a friends referral. Overall fixed the computer. My only problem was I specifically requested a part be ordered for a repair, instead we drove thirty minutes picked up the computer and they had just put a screw in it instead of ordering the part. This ended up wasting an hour of our time and was another week+ without the laptop to do work (they called to say we could pick it up while waiting but that would have been another hour driving). read more

Asked them to help me with a diagnostic because whenever I use it to produce beats it overheats and shuts off. I brought it and they told me don't worry they won't erase nothing unless it needs it, they'll just clean the cooling system and call me if it does. Come back a week later to pick it up everything was erased, all those years of music and hard work gone. And I don't even know if it fixed the problem because now I gotta go download every program and VST again and im too pissed to do so. read more

I came here recently with a highend gaming PC. (ex: 4090 gpu & intel 3900k) and certain games would crashing randomly even causing the pc to crash. This seemed to be a common issue but all solutions i made didn't work. Hadi, worked with me personally and took time out of his day (and night) trying to find solutions. It turns out i have a faulty cooler for my cpu at the beginning of some games loading. He was able to install the cooler and now PC works flawlessly. I had to add that the entire time he was polite, patient, and open to all my uneducated suggestions while also educating me on ways to handle pc issues in the future. I dropped off a PC for a diagnosis and was told that I should expect to receive a call the next day. I didn't hear back so I called back four days later asking for an update. They said they were very busy and promised to get it done within the day after my call. I did not hear back again so I called two days later asking for an update. Again, given another excuse as to why they were taking so long. I was quoted a day to diagnosis and ended up waiting a week before I was told it was ready for pickup. There was no acknowledgement for how long it took them to diagnose (not fix!). Please set your expectations upfront with the customer beforehand or at least communicate throughout the process. Quite disappointed as I chose this place given the good reviews. read more

My 2020 MacBook Pro had the odd issue of a light constantly flashing from the touch pad. I took it to Apple and the best they could do was offer a fix through my Apple care in 7-10 business days - hard to go without my computer for work that long. They recommended a few Apple certified places and I chose Computerland. We agreed to do an expedited repair, and they made it very easy for me to not be without my computer. I was able to bring it in to have it diagnosed, then return it once the part arrived. I was then able to drop it off the evening before a morning when I did not need my computer. They promised me approx. 3 hours and it was done by that time. Great communication, friendly service, staff works well together, computer issues is fixed. Highly recommended from me :-) read more

Here are the facts of my experience in hopes it helps consumers to avoid being swindled into paying money for what could be FREE... 1) I had been introduced to Computerland as "an Authorized Apple repair" facility BY APPLE 2) Before going to my appointment I had performed all troubleshooting steps with Apple over the phone 3) I myself am a computer repair person and have some experience with the issue I was facing (a broken display backlight) 4) The display in question had previously been fixed by Apple for the same reason while it was under AppleCare protection 5) I had sought an independent opintion from YY Computer of Oakland with whom I've worked with previously 6) YY alerted me to an Apple recall issue that my computer fit the bill for and INSTEAD of taking my money, said to go to my previously scheduled appointment with Computerland as it would be a FREE repair 7) The tech at Computerland opened my laptop's lid while I explained the issue for no more than 20 seconds before saying that the "display was bad" 8) I alerted him to the Apple recall and pulled up the website so he could read it 9) He declined to read it saying "I know what it is and this isn't it." 10) I explained I had already had the latop diagnosed by Apple and YY (and myself) to which he replied "I can work on it, but I will have to charge you because it isn't covered by the recall" 11) I asked why I would have to pay for a diagnosis and then pay for the fixing, typically even mechanics will diagnose a car for free and then charge you for parts and labor... this was starting to feel totally predatory. 12) I took my laptop and spent about 30 minutes on the phone with Apple explaining the situation, after asking me a few questions DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL, a box was shipped to me to send to Apple for repair. 13) The specialist noted that if the unit did not fit the criteria after IN PERSON DIAGNOSIS I would be given a quote for a repair- JUST LIKE THE MECHANIC! 14) I sent my laptop back and THE REPAIR WAS FREE DESPITE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY ComputerLand of Berkeley may not be "predatory" in general, they have great reviews on Yelp and Google, but the DO have practices that take advantage of consumer's lack of knowledge (even if they DO KNOW BETTER) and need for technology in order to get them to pay for services that they will later be able to bill Apple for to gain double profits (this is my assumption based on experience and I only use my experience as evidence). The tech acknowledged that recall issues are compensated by Apple, so in effect, I could have paid him to fix the problem that "wasn't covered" and he could have billed Apple for the recall repair simply because I needed my computer and I didn't know any better. Soso helpful and considerate of my school schedule! My screen was loose and they were able to tell me within an hour of dropping it off whether it was something they could fix that day or if they would need to order a part. Turns out I needed a new screen so they gave me my laptop back and when I brought up that my grad school schedule didn't really allow me to go a day without my computer, they said they would do the repair the same day my part came as long as I brought it in at a reasonable time. The part took a bit to come but they contacted me right away when it did and even texted me when I couldn't pick up the call during class. Had a great experience with this repair place - my MacBook Air would not charge and I tried replacing the cable and still it would not charge so it had to be something wrong with the computer. ComputerLand was recommended as a repair shop by Apple and they were much faster to get into than the Apple Store so I figured I would give it a try. They charge 40.00 for the diagnosis which they later will deduct from the cost of the repair. My suspicions were realized as it was the power port on the computer that was broken. For once I had guessed right and figured something out correctly. They were able to fix it and the cost was 120.00 less the 40.00 I had paid so net 80.00. I was well pleased with the outcome. It took about 2 days to figure all this out - not bad. Thanks ComputerLand for the painless repair to my precious computer. I will be back for more help! read more

My laptop had two irritating issues that I wanted to get fixed ASAP. It wasn't charging because the power connection plug had broken, causing the motherboard to short circuit. I was referred by Apple Care to Computerland of Berkeley as I was still having wifi issues and also not being able to use my airdrop on my iPhone with my iMac. Took my computer in and got it back in less than a week. Gina was very helpful and wanted me to double check that the airdrop was working and we plugged in the computer and it wasn't. However one of the technicians figured it out and got the airdrop working again! There was no charge for the service as my iMac is covered under Apple Care. This store is located right next to Subway as it is confusing to find with all the construction going on. Go early to the store so you can find parking on Addison. read more

Pretty mixed feelings on this place. They did good work at an acceptable price, but communication was awful. I kept having to call back every few days to get updates on when my computer would be ready. I was told multiple times I would get a call on a certain day and never received it (at least 2 times, maybe 3). Earlier this year my computer (windows 10) crashed. I thought I was up a creek. I needed a new computer and transfer as much data and as many of my old apps as I could reclaim. I tried Best Buy, but they would not transfer my apps. After checking around I re-discovered Computerland (I remembered them from the old days; I did not realize they were still around... long story short they built me a new computer and I was able to reclaim a fair number of my old apps, since windows 10 is going away soon I upgraded to W11 as I suspected MS-windows is still the devil I know ) it was not going to install on my old computer anyway (something about a chip configuration on the old MoBo). I still have a few problems but it is not with the computer, Computerland did an exemplary build my problems are with Microsoft, Mozilla,and Google none are fatal, just annoying, I can work around them with no difficulty. If one needs a computer I recommend Computerland without hesitation. One more thing I am using a desktop tower workstation configuration. read more

Paid $30 to diagnose iPhone 13 issue - it did not turn on despite charged state. They performed a reset and charged an additional $60. Same thing happened a few months later. Searched online, performed my own reset and it worked. Apple Genius bar offered likely reason for problem (iPhone storage nearly maxed out) and diagnosed without charging me. They were surprised that Computerland had not entered their "repair" into the Apple database and had also charged $90 for the basic reset. read more
