Is this how nice people should be treated? My hard drive broke during finals last year(December 2023), and I urgently needed to recover my data. I found this store, the closest one to me, and initially, they quoted me $200. I paid a $50 deposit, and they promised it would be done within two weeks. However, two weeks later, they said they needed more time. By then, my finals were over, so I let them take their time with the recovery. One year passed, and every time I visited, they told me it would take another two weeks and promised to call me, but I never received a call from them. After graduating, I moved to South Bay for work and wanted to end this endless waiting, regardless of whether the recovery was successful. A month ago, I went to the store, and they told me I could pick up my hard drive before Christmas. Last week, I called to ask if my friend could pick it up so I wouldn't worry about not getting it because of the holiday. They said they would check with the manager and promised to call back in one to two days, but I never received a call. Today, the day after Christmas, I called in the morning, and they said I could pick it up, so I went to the store in the afternoon. I waited 15 minutes, and then they told me I had to pay $850. I couldn't believe it. I asked again, and they confirmed the price was $850, while my receipt originally stated $150. They claimed the cost had risen because it took them a year to recover the data. I told them no one had mentioned any price changes during my numerous visits, and we had no written agreement, just the original receipt. They tried to print a new receipt for me to sign, but luckily, I kept the original receipt. They even said their original receipt was lost--very tricky. While dealing with this, my friend, who had been waiting outside, came in. He was aware of most of the situation and was furious. He used to teach business ethics at university, and he was appalled by their behavior. He insisted on speaking to their manager, but they not allowed us to talk to him. A fixed price should remain fixed, and it's unacceptable to increase the price when the customer arrives to pick up their items, significantly when the service was delayed for a year and still not completed. In the end, I paid what I owed and left feeling disappointed. I've lived here for five years, and most of my family and friends will continue to live in this area. It's sad to be treated this way, especially when they assume that, as an international student, I'll be leaving forever. read more

I was sold a broken and defective phone screen. The day I purchased the screen it broke and was partially unusable - I called to let them know immediately since it went down in less than 2 hours. I was told to come back "at any time". I told the owner it would be a few weeks till I returned because I travel for work. He said that was fine. I was lied too, I just came back after a few weeks and was denied a refund and denied a replacement of my phone screen. I'm extremely disappointed by the service and extreme lack of value I received. I was told "the OLED aftermarket screen will work on your phone seamlessly" it immediately disabled all haptic functions and for multiple weeks while I traveled I had to use a combination of my phone and Ipad to do basic functions till I returned. I have filed a claim with my credit card and bank to get my money back and have provided them with all documentation and proof. Since he won't give me my money back - The bank will get it for me. Complaint also filed with the Better Business Bureau. Avoid this business at all costs, complete scammers that don't care for you. Just want your money and to send you on your way. Slippery, untruthful, and disreputable. Spend your money anywhere else but here. If you can do the right thing, I'll take this review down. Thanks for stealing from me and wasting my time. read more

Hadi completely exceeded my expectations with my laptop repair. My screen wasn't displaying/was very dim after I bumped into it and I needed to take my laptop on an upcoming trip. Best Buy said they would have to ship it out to evaluate the hardware and could take 3-4+ weeks. My IMac laptop computer randomly died last week. We brought it into the Apple store, who couldn't diagnose the issue. Instead, they removed my hard drive and recommended we take it "to a place," whatever that means! Apple store used to do this all in-house. Ugh. We found Computerland via Yelp. I sent a message to the store via Yelp and received a very quick response with a quote. Dropped off the hard drive on Saturday, along with a new laptop, hoping they could transfer the old hard drive information on to the new computer. We had no idea if the hard drive was healthy. A lot riding on this, and we had to place our trust into the folks at Computerland. No payment until you come to pick up the computer. Dropped off on Saturday afternoon, and the computer was ready by Monday morning! All healthy and my information was successfully transferred. In December, Computerland of Berkeley was able to restore my Dell desktop to health when I had systems issues due to a corrupted Solid State Disk Drive. After trying several methods, they replaced the drive and got things running. They offered to do follow-up for any remaining issues. I love this place with my life! It's the second time they come to the rescue. The first time was with advice about whether to fix or replace my phone and this time, they were able to save 20 years worth of data from an external hard drive that I had assumed was lost forever. They actually had to try several times and instead of just giving up, they kept working on it for many days until they were able to save everything I had in it. I am over the moon with how my computer repair went with Computerland. This is not just another review of a well-completed computer repair btw. So here's my story: I had limited warranty on my Apple MacBook Air 2019 and needed a screen replacement. I live in San Jose, so I originally took my laptop to Mobile Kangaroo on Winchester, another Apple authorized repair shop. They quoted me $690 to replace my screen and said it wasn't covered by the warranty. I decided to try my luck elsewhere, so I asked for some quotes via Yelp. Originally, Computerland said they could take me right away and would charge $530. They were the best price I could find. I drove up to Berkeley the next week and upon looking at my screen, they saw the crack was literally microscopic (they had to hold it up to the light and at an angle to see the crack). They said they would try to get it covered under the warranty but they would have to call and discuss with Apple. From the get-go, they were super helpful and friendly. 2 business days later, they give me a call and say my laptop is done and it's covered by the limited warranty so I didn't have to pay out of pocket. I was overjoyed! This showed me that: 1) they are honest 2) they advocated for my case with Apple to get it covered under warranty 3) they're fast and efficient 4) if my case wouldn't have been covered under warranty, they still offered the best price to repair it The storefront is unassuming but I would highly, highly recommend Computerland. Come to get your electronics looked at, especially if it is under any kind of warranty, because who knows.. they might be able to work a miracle and charge $0!! They are very responsive on yelp. I totally messed up my Chromebook by improperly using the accessibility setting.  I had a full page of gibberish that completely covered the entire screen.  Not being tech savvy, the only thing I knew to do was to shut down and reboot, which I did three times but to no avail.  I took the computer to Computerland of Berkeley and Justin restored everything in a few minutes at no charge.  He even did some work on a second Chromebook I had planned to use while my first one was being repaired.  This second backup machine was displaying Gmail but with no search bar at the top--and no, the full screen key was not responsible for this glitch--, turning the computer into an email machine and useless for anything else.  There was no charge for this work either.  If I ever need any work done on my computer that is more involved and challenging I would not even consider going anywhere else other than Computerland of Berkeley. read more

I just saved $600 by using Computerland of Berkeley. I went to the Apple Store Walnut Creek because I bricked my computer during an update. I had a complete backup but they tried a revive and said that was all they could do. Quoted me $750 to send it out for repair. It's a two-year-old M1 I paid a ton for, I couldn't believe the chip would be dead already. So I took it to Computerland because they're Apple-certified. They fixed it overnight for $150. Awesome business! I brought my 2018 MBA in since it developed the dreaded repeating key issue on my keyboard. I've had this laptop since November of 2018, so it was past it's warranty, BUT it still qualified for the Keyboard Service Program with Apple so I didn't have to pay a penny. I reached out to Computerland and spoke with Gus. I dropped it off at 10am on Tuesday, June 7 and was told it would take about 3-4 business days. With that being said, I expected to be able to pick it up on Friday or Saturday (today). On Wednesday, June 8, I received a call at 4:45pm that my laptop was ready to be picked up!
