Steven is exceedingly thorough and detailed in his service and explanations. He is up front about what he thinks you need and what you don't. He did a complete HVAC swap out in 1 day for my condo. I went on Yelp and filled out a form to have companies contact me to service my furnace. Comfort Connection was one of the companies who responded to my Yelp request. After reviewing all the companies who responded, I selected Comfort Connection. I then called them to set up an appointment to service my furnace and AC. I did not get a call back that day so I went to their web site and filled out an appointment request and again I did not get a call back. After waiting 48 hours I contacted another company. Update: After this review was posted Steven Conner, the owner, contacted me and expressed how sorry he was for not getting back to me right away. He said that, due to the smoke from the recent fires, that he had been overwhelmed with calls to replace furnace filters. He reiterated that this was not a good excuse and that he wanted a chance to rectify the situation. He also stated that he now has hired a full time office person to manage the workload. Based on the stellar Yelp reviews I decided to give Steve another chance and he more than made up for his lack of response. We agreed on a day and time for Steve and his son to come over and service the furnace. They showed up exactly on time and I was pleased with the service they performed. I'm not a "get three bids" kind of guy, but after the first two bids I was looking for someone who I could tell knew what they were doing. Steven was somewhat difficult to get in touch with, but I think it's because he's so busy. And there's a reason he's busy. He understood what I was looking for, and as we were talking he was already envisioning all the sheet metal work and how it was going to look. He came in significantly less than his competition for a way better level of furnace. He gave me the estimate on a weekend and Monday afternoon everything was finished. That included replacing the A/C, routing a new exhaust for a high-efficiency furnace - everything. After contacting Steven through Yelp, we made an appointment for him to tune-up my furnace. He arrived (a tad bit late) but he did call to let me know and asked if I was Ok with that or if I wanted him to come out a different day. He went to work on my 20 year old furnace but he did let me know that he would not do another tune-up on it in the future because of its age and condition. There is a cracked part, I forget what he called it but he said I should replace the furnace soon instead of having him fix parts on it, keeping it on life support. He did replace a small part ($50) but said that if I have him replace the furnace he would credit me for that part on the bigger job. He gave me a competitive price for replacement. I had looked into it a bit and found pricing all over $4000 but he said he would charge $3000 and said I could write some of it off on taxes for EnergyStar credit, making the OOP cost about $2500. I plan to replace it soon, after I find some funds in my budget, and I will definitely call Steven out again. I also have to point out that I did have a different company which is very highly rated here out last winter to tune-up the same furnace and he did not point out the cracked part (it had been in my home inspection when I bought the house 3 years ago). It seems that all he did was vacuum the furnace interior. And charged more for it than Comfort Connection. read more

I cannot state how wonderful Steve Conner has been to me. He is the hardest working man in Portland. He has been working with me since July 2013 because of a horrid heat pump installation that literally destroyed my 2006, brand new Ruud A/C and furnace. He fixed the A/C unit and installed a brand new high efficiency Lennox furnace. Besides his great customer service, knowledge and competency, he has gone way out of his way to help me, because he says incompetence in the heating and cooling sector makes everyone look bad. Steve can over three times, without payment to help me figure out the heat pump problem. He came over when the previous installer sent over an "appraiser" who tried to convince (con) me into believing no damage was done due to the incompetent installation by Fire and Ice Heating and A/C. Steve came over at no price, on Sunday evening (!) and talked to the man. By the time Steve was finished, the "appraiser" stated he would testify in court for me. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate Steve's help, honesty, customer service, and for being a really good, decent human being. I highly recommend Steve as a professional, and a man who has gone out of his way to help me. He is someone you can truly trust. I called Steven at Comfort Connection on Thursday late in the afternoon about a corroded vent pipe from a hot water heater located on our rental property. The situation was a dire emergency because the gas company condemned the entire unit leaving our very freaked out tenants without hot water which is required to be corrected within 48 hours or less. To add insult to injury, the parts to correct this particular problem were extremely difficult to find given the unique nature of the pipe. Before finding Steven and Comfort Connections, we called at least 10 other companies and found everything from price gouging (this being an emergency) to nobody wanting to come out on such short notice let alone look for parts. Steven was the only person who listened to the entire problem and immediately offered to help. We emailed the photos of the pipe to Steven and he spent that entire evening looking for the parts. He called us in the morning to inform us that after trying numerous suppliers he could not locate the parts but that he would not give up. He came out and looked at the unit and then continued on his quest to find the correct pipe or a work-around which he finally found at a local supplier. As soon as we picked up the parts, he immediately installed everything and notified the gas company that the unit was fixed resulting in the gas company lifting their condemnation of the unit well within the 48 hour window. Steven's prices are the most reasonable that I have ever seen from any contractor and he was so generous with his time and advice. Steven is extremely knowledgeable and his vast experience in heating and cooling issues is unmatched. He is also a very kind and generous person who has actually restored my faith in human kindness. I cannot recommend Steven strongly enough and will be recommending him to all my friends and neighbors. I am so very grateful to him for all of his assistance and hard work. Our furnace stopped working two nights ago. Called Comfort Connection this morning at 10:30. Steven called back promptly and had his technician, Daniel, there in less than two hours. It was fixed by 3pm that day, and included a trip to get a replacement part. Awesome, right? I contacted Steve when my in-laws were wanting to add an air conditioner to their home. Steve is a friendly, chatty, fellow who takes pride in the jobs he does. He has many excellent reviews on several different sites and I felt very comfortable having him assist my in-laws with their A/C needs. Called Steve to look at my heat pump, he fit me into his schedule the same week. The heat pump seemed to be having a rough time during our short heat wave that we had and was worried about it coming into the summer months, I though initially I would be spending a pretty penny on a repair job, since that is what I am usually accustomed to. However, Steve came to my house and noticed that my electronic air filter in the house was not working properly after removing we noticed that the heat pump started working properly, The cost of his job was just a service call and a recommendation to replace the electronic air filter with a normal filter which has costed me $25.00. Steven is a good guy.. honest in what he does and he takes pride in his work. We took bids from AAA, Sears, and Sky Heating. After we took these bids, our friends recommended Steven from Comfort Connection as he had put in their A/C a few years ago. Turns out, 3 more of our friends all had Steven put in their HVAC systems as well over the last few years.. I contacted him at about 10pm one evening via Yelp, and he called me the next morning and said he could come over on the coming Thurs to take a look at what we need and give us a bid. His bid was about $1200 cheaper than the cheapest bid we had, and his warranty was twice as long as the longest warranty we were offered. On top of that, he said he could make time the next day after his job in the morning! Short story short, Friday afternoon about 24 hours after he gave us the bid, we clicked on the A/C and have been happy with the recent week long sunshine because we have been nice and cool in our home. One last thing I'll mention.. he looked through some of the bids from the other companies and pointed out the fine print that I had not noticed like: the other companies' bid did NOT include the electrical work to hook it all up to our panel, it had to be "customer supplied and HVAC ready wiring" on our electrical panel. Steven's opinion was that they would end up tacking on an extra $1000 once they got in there and were ready to hook up the HVAC system to our panel. We'll never know if that is true or not, but it was definitely some fine print that I wasn't looking for.. nor would I have caught. Steven's crew had a certified electrical journeyman who hooked up our panel, no problem. All in all.. he bid a great number, had a warranty twice as long.. and then ended up charging us EXACTLY what he bid. Thanks Steven. read more

So not only has Superman Steve saved our HVAC happiness on our duplex, but now he has bailed us out on our row house! We were adding AC and since the existing attic heater was 20 years old, we decided to upgrade that as well. Well when Steven took a look he called me and let me know there was no way to replace that without cutting into the roof structure, wow. It actually looks like they built the attic around the heater. So off to mini-split land we go. This was NOT an easy job, but the install is absolutely fantastic, looks great and the cost was super fair. Thank goodness I followed my instinct and got a second opinion! Our heater wasn't working and a company recommended by NW Nat came out. I was charged a diagnosis fee and was told my furnace was cracked and needed to be replaced. Gas, etc. shut off. Drama! I start researching and see I'm looking at upwards of $5k, but also see some questionable Yelp reviews on that company (thank you Yelp!). So I decide to get a second opinion from Comfort. Net-net: no cracks in furnace, other company has gone dark (never gave a written estimate or documented their findings), and I'm out a buck twenty-five instead of five g's. Happy girl. Our heater went out this spring--fortunately right as the weather warmed up. I contacted Steve Connor, the owner of Comfort Connection, and in June he came out to determine if our 20-year old furnace was worth saving. He said that if it was a fix that could be done for under $200, he would gladly do the repair, but he didn't believe in "life support" for old furnaces that would cost a little here and there, only to ultimately soon require a new furnace anyway. I could totally appreciate that approach. We were not surprised that the furnace was going to cost more than $200 to repair when he pulled out the blower motor. We waited until early September to reconnect with Steve, and he gave us a bid for a slim 95% efficiency Bryant furnace that included a tax credit. Ultimately, it will cost us $3200. To that cost, we added on a couple of items (4-inch filter and moving the furnace location to access our water heater, which had been blocked in). Prices for these additions were totally reasonable. We agreed to have Steve do the work on the spot Once we agreed to Steve's bid, Stefan and Cody came in and started the installation within about an hour. They completed the installation within a couple of hours the next morning. As you have seen from other reviewers, Steve throws in a nice programmable honeywell thermostat free of charge. Steve was a pleasure to work with, and Stefan and Cody were quiet and hard working guys who did a nice clean job on the installation. I couldn't be happier! I called Steve to have him come out and service my unit that had randomly shut off in the dead of winter. My house temp was plummeting to below 50 and all I could do was make a fire to help heat the house. He called me to ask me a few questions about the issue and then over the phone figured out the issue and talked me through how to fix my problem. 15 min phone call later and about 5 min of work my furnace was back working better than ever and couldn't be happier and my dogs were very happy as well. -STOP SEARCHING AND GO WITH COMFORT CONNECTION!- Just as Portland was heading into a week of heat in the high 90s, our central A/C unit decided it was done; on the Friday of 4th of July weekend! We have cats and birds, so we needed to get the temperature regulated as soon as possible. We began calling around and hoping for a miracle on such short notice. It seemed that everyone was booked 2 weeks out, or wanted $200 for an "emergency bid". A family member sent us the contact information for Steven, at Comfort Connection, and he came out THAT MORNING! He was hoping to be able to tell us it would be a simple fix, but the unit was very old and I wasn't expecting it to be; he let us know the cost of fixing VS cost of replacing. He said if we wanted, he could have his team out by Tuesday morning and replace the unit, and that's exactly what he did! His team was very nice, thorough, and knew exactly what they were doing. His installers, Sergei and Stephan were very professional and had it in in no time, the old one cleaned up and hauled away. (and I found they used to be serious soccer players in Europe) I now have a fantastic new furnace and heat after having my old furnace catch fire. You will not be sorry. The central a/c in our two-story home decided to quit during one of the hottest days of this summer and my family of four was sweltering, even with the windows opened and multiple fans running. Have you ever been in a really hot home with two miserable teenagers? When I phoned to set up a service appointment Steven Connor questioned me thoroughly about the age and condition of our system, how well it had been maintained and how the unit was performing just prior to malfunctioning. Before agreeing to come out, he made it clear that he would not do temporary repairs on a system that really should be replaced. He explained that a temporary fix ultimately costs customers a lot of money and frustration and he's not in business to exploit people. He just won't accept the job. My family was fortunate because Steven had a crew on a project very near my neighborhood the next day, and they came by after finishing that job. After introducing themselves they went to work with the speed and efficiency of a racetrack pit crew. It's truly satisfying when you realize that your problem is in the hands of qualified professionals. They discovered that components inside the power shut-off box near the outside unit had melted and both fuses were burned, so before anything else they removed the old box and rewired a new one. Then they very methodically examined every component in our system and eventually identified other melted parts and a bad capacitor. In a few hours my system was operating again. Believe me, there is nothing sweeter than the sound of the fan whirring and the compressor kicking in to confirm that the repair was complete and effective. Needless to say, when our system finally has to be replaced, I will call Steven. I recommend Comfort Connection without hesitation. read more

He explained things to me in an easy to understand manner, and showed me a problem he'd found with rust. Lifesaver! Our furnace went out on a Wednesday evening. We couldn't find anyone to come out before Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, our house got colder and colder, and my 84-year-old husband was suffering with pneumonia!
