Steven from comfort connection provided unbeatable service for great cost! I woke up Saturday to a freezing cold home and a broken HVAC heating system. I got an hold of Steven and he actually walked me through some troubleshooting ideas right there on the phone to try to get it up and running fast. When that didn't work, he came to my home within 30 minutes and fixed it super fast! He came in on his day off to help out! I am writing this review in a toasty warm home within an hour and a half of calling him! And, the cost was extremely reasonable, and was even less than I expected! Steven and the whole crew from Comfort Connection were amazing. Steven goes out of his way to explain what options are available and explain how they will do things. He also takes great pains to not upsell on equipment. He'd rather we get the right thing that we need, rather than talk us into something much more expensive that we wouldn't see a benefit out of. Scheduling was really easy. Apparently they try to not keep themselves booked out too far. Though I will admit, we got particularly lucky because of another customer needing to reschedule. Steven had come to inspect the house and give a quote on Friday, and on Monday had gave me a call telling me about a sudden opening and asked if we were available to have work start around noon that day. Work was completed by noon the next day. The entire time the crew was great. They made sure to lay out a protective layer of cardboard to protect our carpet, and left the area clean when they were done. The new furnace is significantly quieter, yet heats our house better than the 30 year old furnace it replaced. We also opted to get an A/C unit, that will keep us nice an cool in the summer. The furnace in our house wasn't working this morning so I called Comfort Connection. I explained the problem to Steve who said he would check with the tech in the field. He called me back and said that they could be there within 30 minutes. Cody, the tech, arrived on time, diagnosed a failed capacitor, replaced it and tested te furnace. i called for an estimate and Steven came out and spent about two hours discussing the replacement of our furnace and Heat Pump. He swore he could beat anyone else's prices and bragged about his service and his family and his connections. He left and I never heard another word from him, no call, no estimate, nothing. I called and left him a message and got no response. I tried a third time and he actually called me back (this is two weeks later) and said he was just too busy for us. Absolutely stellar service. I was looking to install a wireless thermostat with a receiver on my furnace because my thermostat is upstairs and on hot days, I have to adjust it a few times a day to keep from freezing downstairs due to the temperature differential. Steve suggested an Ecobee 4 with a remote sensor - the advice was unsolicited and free of charge. I bought the Ecobee and found it a little complicated to install myself. Steve had one of his people come by the next day and install it efficiently, courteously and for the proper price. He called to follow up on the installation too. Steven came to look at our furnace after it stopped working. He reported that it was a mess, needed a new board and possibly fan, which would be at least $800., but he didn't want to repair it because it was so poorly installed. He would, however, replace it with a new furnace, with a starting price of $3000. His cost for this appraisal was $100. Later that day, we checked the thermostat and found that it was broken. We went to Home Depot and bought a new one ($60), and replaced it. The furnace is working wonderfully. Beware. read more

Our experience with Steve and his wonderful crew, Austin, Cody, Stefan and Sergey was outstanding. Our furnace started acting up right before the cold hit in January. I spoke with Steve and he was out the next day. His communication was excellent. Steve spent considerable time scoping the project and came up with the perfect solution. Work started the next day so we could avoid additional cold nights. His crew was superb. Everything was left 100% clean, all refuse and the old systems were hauled away. Steve came out July 21 to give me an estimate on an AC & furnace. I explained to him the AC was medically necessary and it needed to get done asap. I also told him I'd work on financing. He gave me a verbal quote and said he'd e-mail me a written quote. At the time he cautioned me about other contractors who give a quote, only to add additional costs after the fact. He said he doesn't increase the price and the quote he gave me is what I'd pay. I immediately was leaning toward hiring him because he was personable, had good reviews and had a longer labor warranty than most. However, I thought I'd get several quotes before making a decision. I didn't hear back for days & finally called him. He sent me a brand specific quote with efficiency & seer info, but didn't list the model numbers. He included papmphlets, but the furnace pamphlet had more than one model and I had no idea which furnace he was selling me. The pamphlets also did not clarify the model number of the filter cabinent or programmable thermostat. I asked him to revise the quote to include specific model numbers of the furnace, AC, filter cabinet & the programmable thermostat and an explanation why the furnace was needing replaced. The project is being financed and I wanted to provide specifics to the lender. He again did not get back to me for awhile. When I finally did get his revised quote, it still didn't clarify whether the thermostat was a basic model or programmable, which is somewhat important due to the significant difference in price as well as difference in functionality. However, I was willing to overlook it. I was comparing his revised quote to his competitors and noticed he did not incude the cost of permits & inspections. I thought it was just an oversight and asked him to indicate the permits were included. I again did not hear from him and just thought he was really busy. I decided to reach out one last time. He finally sent out a revised quote on 8/1. I was excited to schedule the installation. I literally was signing on the dotted line when I noticed he raised the price $500 for permits & inspections. That was it for me. In an industry where permits are common, it seems just a tad suspicious that a $500 charge was conveniently left off his initial quote & the subsequent revision. It's likely the permits would have been one of those price increases that he talked about, only instead of the other contractors he warned would have surprise expenses, it was him. In summary, I know he has good reviews but my experience was not great. The turn around time for him to respond was abysmal and indicated to me he did not take it seriously when I said it was medically necessary to get it installed asap. Even though it was a pain pinning him down on the specifics & even though he was slow to respond, I still would have hired him if it weren't for the surprise $500 permit expense. If you are thinking about using him, definately get other estimates for comparison because if you sign on the dotted line & it's not specifically detailed in the contract, you might find yourself with a few surprises. Edit: Steve e-mailed and explained the delays were a result of his assistant being gone for two weeks and said the additional charge was a misunderstanding with his assistant. He said his assistant added the permit charge and e-mailed it to me. This was interesting because all documents came from his e-mail address with a letter from him. If his assistant uses his e-mail and the customer believes he/she is corresponding with him, that seems a somewhat questionable practice. At any rate, to his credit, he apologized for the delays and made an effort to retain my business, which is why the review has been revised from 2 stars to 3. After all the delays, I chose to move on to another contractor. read more

I found Comfort Connection (Steven Conner) recommended on Nextdoor. Dealing with him was a very mixed bag. He made two visits to our house (1920 bungalow in the Grant Park neighborhood). On the second visit, which he requested to finalize his bid, he was 1 hour 20 minutes late for the 9am Saturday appointment that he had requested. He also has very unprofessional phone etiquette. He has a bluetooth headset and doesn't seem to believe in ignoring calls or redirecting to voice mail. While inside our house he would stop us in mid conversation to receive a call. After the third or fourth time it just became rude. He seems totally oblivious to the distinction between doing this in private (his house, his car) and doing it mid conversation inside the customers house. He then decides he's not interested in bidding. ENTIRELY HIS PREROGATIVE but I let him know that this was pretty frustrating after he'd sucked up two and a half hours of my Saturday morning. At this point I was done but unfortunately he was not and he chose to followup with a series of highly unprofessional and rude e-mails. In one he stated "I wish you all the best and I'm sure that you'll ultimately find a contractor who will do the job exactly like you tell them to" launching into an unsolicited breakdown of all the reasons he wasn't interested in bidding which were, no surprise, all our fault (basically that we had expressed certain preferences on how we preferred things be done and we asked too many questions). Our preferences on how we wanted the project done were that we were not interested in abandoning the existing floor registers and replacing them with ceiling registers cut into the lathe&plaster ceilings and we preferred hard pipe ducting over flex. The project was to install a 2-zone system comprising heat-pump, air handler, furnace and AC. Further there were a few challenges in routing ducting which would visibly impact the master bedroom. Each HVAC contractor we'd interviewed had different ideas on what equipment to use and how to handle the challenges. Us asking questions of each contractor was about the only way we had to try and figure out the reasons behind their different proposed approaches. He also had a bizarre issue with us requesting that the bid not include electrical. No other HVAC contractor had a problem with this request. When I spoke to him on the phone about this he said "no problem". Only later when he inexplicably decided to inform us of everything we'd done "wrong" did he tell us we were preventing him from doing "what was best" and not letting him "save us money". He never bothered to ask us why we made the request, had he, I would have been happy to explain that the electrical contractor who had just done our 200A service upgrade had already pulled the permits to add the A/C and heat pump circuits and unwinding these permits to have someone else do the work would have been a hassle. Bottom line, I found him inflexible and unwilling to accommodate customer preferences. Plus of course rude. In addition he seems focused on delivering the cheapest solution possible which isn't always what the customer wants. EDIT: In regard to Stephen's followup. His claim that we were "fixated on price" is yet another strange idea that he has manufactured without any factual basis. He also neglects to mention that after I posted this review he sent me yet more unsolicited emails. I had to eventually request that he stop emailing me. In one of these messages he said, if we would reconsider him, he would do the project for $3500 less than the bid we were intending to proceed with. We said no. read more

Steven Connor at Comfort Connections does excellent work. In the past 3 years I have used his company for 2 big projects. I'll continue to use them for all of my future HVAC needs. The first time they installed a new furnace, A/C, and did all of the duct work in my first house. It had ceiling radiant heat and no forced air, no A/C. They did a great job, and it was a big project. Steven took great care in strategizing how the ducting could best be placed, without needing ugly soffits (definition at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soffit) or drywall work to hide the ducting. Steven's prices are super competitive and always fair. I had them out again at my new house to replace the furnace, the A/C, and to do a bunch of duct work. An even bigger project than my first house. The existing HVAC on my new house was a mess. No air flow, bad duct work, a frankenstein cluster of add-on duct work over the last 60 years. Steven came in and once again was able to strategically layout the ducting for maximum airflow without having to create ugly soffits or box in the duct work that would ruin the character of our house. As an example tot he great care he takes before he starts on a project like this, he came out 3 different times to look things over and figure out the best placement of the ducts. A few areas seemed impossible, but he found a way. I also had them install a ductless heat/ac unit on our 3rd floor. If you want somebody who is going to treat the job as if it's his own house - Steven is your guy. He takes great care in all of the work he does, and he is easy to work with. Steven is a great guy! Came quickly to fix our AC issues during the insanely hot summer we just survived. We called him in an emergency when our unit stopped blowing cold air and he was able to squeeze us in between his other appointments first thing in the morning. He was very upfront and clear over the phone with 4 possible scenarios of how much it may cost depending on what the problem could be. He asked me if it was ok to go ahead and fix the unit if it was one of the first two scenarios, which would be under $200. If he found the problem would be the latter two scenarios, costing more than $200, he would discuss the options with me. He came and fixed it in no time and gave me tips on how to keep the intake clean so as to improve the performance by 25% and save me money. He also offered to credit me back the fee for this service call if/when I need to update my AC for a new one. What great, prompt, and professional service! I highly recommend Steven and would absolutely use Comfort Connection again in a heartbeat. read more

So as of right now we only got advice from Steve, and it was amazing. Our furnace/AC is leaking water, so I was calling around to see who I wanted to go with. When I called Steve, he is the only company where he answered the phone and I did not talk to a secretary. We talked through my issue and he had me send him pictures of my furnace and AC unit. We talked for about a half hour, where he pretty much taught me how the HVAC system works in my house, what the issue likely was, etc. We are on a tight budget, and we likely need a whole new system really (long story), so we are trying to cut corners financially and our now working with our real estate agents to see if they can help pay for it or something. I told Steve this, and he was still very awesome about it, reminding me of the issue and to make sure I let my agents know what's going on. He did not show any signs of annoyance that I wasted his time or anything like that. He was so nice and knowledgeable. Even though we may not be using him right now, I have a very strong feeling we will in the future. Since I took so much of his time with zero payment, I felt the least I could do was give him a good review based on the experience I did have with him. I had Comfort connection replace my furnace and AC unit back in July of 2014, the install came with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. During the recent scorcher of a heat wave my AC went out. I called and was able to talk with Steven at 5:37PM on June 29th 2021. He said he had just gotten in and could not take my information at that time and asked that I call back the next day. I agreed and called the next day June 30th at 11:11AM, we went over the details of the AC not working and Steven stated he would have someone come out and look at the AC that day. No one came out nor did anyone call stating the reason that they were unable to come out. I can understand that we were in a major heat wave and that they may well be swamped under with requests, but I did not get a callback stating that or anything, just silence and he stated on my previous call someone would be out to look at the issue. I called again on July 1st 3 different times at 10, 12 and 2 PM there was no answer and the voice mail is full, so I decided to use his web page and requested a service call. I filled out all the information and still no contact back from Comfort connection, I also texted his phone number and did not receive a reply. I have no idea if the lack of communication is because I have an issue with a previous install that he does not want to honor, or if it is because the company is very busy due to the heat wave but I feel it's very unprofessional to just ignore your customers and promise something they seemingly have no intention of completing. I also stated in the call, that I was able to speak with Steven, that I have a number of medical conditions that make me very vulnerable to the heat, having congestive heart failure to name just one of many. Within minutes of placing this review Comfort connection called me and began the process of taking care of this issue. I now have my AC working and they will complete the issue next week fully taking care of what turned out to be a leak. There are not many companies that get across the board 5-star ratings on Yelp and none are more deserving than Comfort Connections. I've used Steven for the past 5 or 6 years for my heating and cooling needs and have never been disappointed. The AC system that Steven installed some 4 or 5 years ago started freezing up and blowing warm air so I reached out to Steven 3 days ago for help. In spite of being extremely busy during this heat wave, Cody came out this morning and quickly diagnosed the problem (some sort of leak in the refrigerant line) and then fixed it. All in all, it took him about 2 1/2 hours (plus travel time) to make the repair and recharge the system. When Cody was finished I asked him for the bill and was shocked when he said "no charge." I pointed out to him that the system was 4 or 5 years old, but he said that the original work was warranted for ten years, parts and labor. I fully expected to pay a couple hundred dollars for the work and it's really heartwarming to find a guy like Steven who delivers a good product at a great price and then stands behind his work even though years have passed. And yet, that's what we heard from several of the larger HVAC servicers out there. I looked for a closer, smaller company and found Steven through all the great reviews which are totally accurate. Not only did he fit me in the same day for a diagnosis, not only did he not charge me for that visit, not only did he save me apx. $900 through various credits and warranty negotiations on broken parts that he undertook on my behalf without me asking or having to lift a finger, but he also had a brand new furnace installed within 24 hours of my call at a price that was easily $1500 less than the competition.
