I had such a great experience at this diner!! Everything from the food to the atmosphere made it a brunch with family to remember. As soon as we sat down, our server was incredibly welcoming and attentive. I asked him for a drink recommendation and told him what flavors I usually enjoy, and he immediately suggested something that ended up being absolutely perfect for me. The drink didn't take long at all to come out as well! Everyone at my table ordered burgers, and we were all impressed. The portions were generous, and the burgers were cooked just right. They were juicy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. We paired them with fries and onion rings for the table, and both were sooo crispy and delicious. The restaurant itself is beautiful both outside and inside. It has a really inviting vibe, and you can tell they put effort into creating a space that feels stylish but still comfortable. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy, which made for a relaxed lunch experience. While we were there, near the bar area there was a group of people celebrating something with a DJ, and the energy over there looked like so much fun!! Overall, great service, delicious food, and a fun atmosphere. I'll absolutely be coming back! read more

We found this hidden gem the last time I was visiting family. This is my second time eating at this restaurant. I have only had their breakfast and it is delicious. I ordered eggs, bacon and a banana waffle. When you order a side of bacon they serve you six slices of bacon. (I actually asked the server if it was a side?). The banana waffles come with an entire banana sliced on it. The portions for breakfast are extremely generous! Located in Ford's, NJ on what looks like Main Street you will find Colonial Restaurant. It's mixed in among houses and shops. It's a typical NY Diner menu which I love. When you walk in there is counter seating the length of the restaurant on the right and a line of booths that seat 4 on the left. If you go with a large party you will have to sit separately. If you're in the area I definitely recommend Colonial Restaurant for breakfast! read more

My toddler has been coming to Colonial since he was 2, and it truly feels like a second home for us. Every visit is a joy--he absolutely loves the food, and it's always a treat to see him light up when he sees Michelle and Tommy. They are not just staff--they're warm, welcoming, and treat every guest like family. The way they interact with the kids is so special--it's rare to find that kind of genuine connection these days. This photo perfectly captures how happy and comfortable he feels here. Thank you, Colonial team, for always making our mornings brighter! read more

Had breakfast here when I was in New Jersey. Nice and friendly neighborhood diner in downtown Fords. The restaurant is bigger inside than it looks from outside. There is booth seating and counter seats. The food is diner style serving breakfast and lunch. They also have daily specials. I had a waffle with sliced bananas and walnuts. Very good and plenty to eat. The coffee is hot and good This is where the locals eat. The restaurant is open 7 days from 6:00 until 3:00. There is limited street parking. read more

Oooooooo a hidden gem are we??? lol. Actually very surprised with this restaurant. I am a sucker for good pancakes and good turkey bacon .... Delish!!! Not a huge fan of their service. Waitress was more worried about closing up shop than seeing how our meals were. Oh, their coffee was good too. read more

This place is where the locals residents around the area gets there bkfts/lunch. This is my second time around. What I noticed is how the staff greets everyone with a smile and sometimes with ppl names. Which tells me how staff makes the patrons feel like home. It's a small place but inviting. Reasonable prices. Street parking read more

This is amazing. I like the new restaurant. It has a lot of great food and I really like it.

The restaurant was dingy. We were seated in the last booth. Service was so so. Hard to get our server's attention to get more coffee and finally had to ask someone else. The portions were good, but the food tasted too salty to me. read more

This cute little local favorite was a delight. I got stuck here in Ford, NY due to a break down with my truck so I decided to try the local cafe! I loved it, food was good and fulfilling while I listened to the local chatter from the patrons! The service was awesome and even the cook came by to say "hi"! (Hard to find this in So Cal) If you're in the area and want something that kinda takes you back to a simpler time I think you'll like Colonial Restaurant read more

Awesome little diner I decided to try based on the ratings here. First walked in and it was everything I expected and more. Then reality set in. I was number one in line to be seated and there were open tables. I stood and listened for 10 minutes, to the hostess bitch and complain to a customer about how incompetent everyone else working there was. She walked away and someone else finally seated me. The food does not disappoint and that is why it got this score. Everything was perfect with the meal and it was out fast. I had an omelette with the breakfast potatoes and toast. The wait staff was not very attentive and I finally just asked someone else for more coffee and my check. I may return for a second look. Hopefully, next time the atmosphere would be a little different read more

Was pleasantly surprised! We were looking for somewhere quick to stop and eat and lucked out that there was a table for us. You can tell this is the place where everyone who is local goes to for a weekend breakfast so we picked a good spot. The kids meals were huge, my stack of pancakes was just as filling, and we all left full and happy. Super fast service, super friendly. No frills, come and eat your delicious food and be on your merry way. Can't go wrong! read more

There are "greasy spoons" then there's this place. The juice dispenser apparently broke (which could happen anywhere) and I was served warmer-than-room temperature OJ. After I salted my home fries, I noticed dead ants in the salt shaker. I even looked at the next shaker a few seats away, and that one had bugs in it as well. The omelette was good. But after the bugs in the salt shakers and getting food poisoning from the long sip of OJ (first sip, hadn't realized it was warm yet), I'm never going back. I still can't figure out how this place has such great reviews everywhere. read more

A really good, affordable diner. Two counters with seating. Limited number of booths that can seat 4. Only open for breakfast and lunch. On some days, there's a waiting list with people milling around front entrance waiting to get a table. But there's a reason for its popularity. The food is so darn good and abundant. And the prices are extremely reasonable given the amount of food served. You get free refills of coffee. Great french toast: 3 large slices of brioche bread; one of their french toast specials include a whole sliced banana and strawberries plus coffee or tea, all for $11.00. Yummy and very filling. I also love their banana pancakes with the slices of banana cooked right into the batter. Their specialty omelettes and fresh salads are also quite good. The owner, Tommy, and the servers are genial and attentive. The cooks have been there a long time and can whip up their standard as well as new "specials" in a heartbeat. On occasion, I've also seen Tommy being very hands-on and helping prepare dishes. The diner is clean, fairly comfortable, has tasty and abundant food choices, is reasonably priced, and has good service. There's also a parking lot down the block which is for customers of the Colonial, the pharmacy/UPS Store next door and Siperstein's Paint Shop. read more

Small, local spot with great stand nice staff. A little wait which told us the locals approve of the food and that is a great indication of a good food experience. We stopped here on a road trip and were not disappointed. Coffee was fresh and delicious and kept coming- a huge plus for us as we love it very much. Attentive waiters, tasty, well made food and I'm picky. Eggs were not greasy, bread was toasty warm. Place was clean. Would recommend 100%. Will stop again if ever in the area. read more

What a cool little place to have breakfast. A friend told me about this gem a few mo the back & I've been trying to stop but today it finally happened. It's hidden pretty well in a small strip center and if it wasn't for the construction going on I wouldn't of found it. I had remembered a month or so ago I was driving by and they were refinishing the front but I didn't have the tome to stop. I ordered the French toast with bacon so good & a friend met me and he ordered some special they had with Canadian bacon and eggs with potatoes. The staff were friendly and the food was out super fast. I'll for sure be saving this place for another trip read more

Great breakfast and lunch spot. Old school lunchonette atmosphere. Friendly service. I see that they now stay open to 3pm.

We were passing through and stopped at this restaurant for breakfast, based on the very positive Yelp reviews ... we were not disappointed! It's a little neighborhood gem, frequented by locals. Staff were welcoming and attentive. They use good quality, fresh ingredients and didn't skimp. My wife and I each had omelettes. The portions were ample and the food came out HOT ... right from the stove. If you're in the neighborhood, it's worth stopping by. read more

Just passing through back to MD from NJ looking for a sit down breakfast, not too far off the highway. I think this spot has a great regular local following as well it should. I'm glad I ordered here. When you're up early and you don't want to go to IHOP, this place tastes a lot cleaner. Their omelettes taste like scrambles, which I prefer. It's not dry. I ordered a Jersey omelette. The potatoes don't taste dried out. This is a step above Le Peep and The Turning Point in Westfield. I'd recommend their omelettes. read more

I always say, "Support your local everything," but Colonial Restaurant is worth your while just for its good food and attentive service, its neighborhood-only status notwithstanding. A couple of Saturdays ago we paid our first visit. It took about twenty minutes to get a table and, one satisfying breakfast later, we understood why there were as many people, appetites tempered by patience, waiting to be seated as when we arrived. I guess this restaurant closes its doors for the day at 2:00 because they've served so many palatable plates by then, the staff can go home and make dinner for themselves. If I.H.O.P. were the only game in town, I'd stay in for breakfast. Long live local business, especially establishments as first-rate as Colonial Restaurant. read more

If you ever need a nice comfort food breakfast after a late night this is the place! My wife loves the eggs and the waffles and I am fan of the breakfast sandwiches. The Omelets are also really good (jersey omelet) and the breakfast potatoes are good too. Portions are big, parking is on the street, seating is limited, staff is super nice and quick. Overall a must visit for a old timie bfast diner experience. Also expect a wait, but it is worth it. Update- back recently and we arrived at 144pm before closing and they would not seat us even though they close at two. Ordering takeout was not allowed and it was frustrating. They should update business hours to close at 145pm on sundays not 2pm. Not sure why they clean grill and close up early if you have hours on the door that say another time. That said I do understand if its midnight and someone shows up to order a steak at 1155 before closing but we were ordering eggs! read more

What more can you say but WOW. Friendly....clean.....priced right diner food. We have the pleasure of dining here many times when we lived in the area. Now when we come to visit it is our goto place for either breakfast of lunch. The only negative is there is no dinner service. When in the area make this fine establishment your goto place and you will not regret it. You proberly tried the rest, now eat at the best. read more

I've been here countless times and I can't believe I just got the chance to write a review now. I love this mom&pop spot! All the staff members are so kind and courteous and polite. The service is always excellent no matter how busy it gets. It's the kind of restaurant where the old folks go for a cup of coffee and to read the newspaper. The food here is great, too. They have daily specials at reasonable prices. In fact, I can't complain about the prices of anything on their menu. I believe the prices are fair and you get a good amount of food. My favorite thing to order off their menu is the Belgian Waffle with strawberry preserves. My husband enjoys their omelettes. I've had a few things off their menu, but I love their breakfast food the most. I always leave feeling full/satisfied and with leftovers. read more

This has been my "go to" breakfast spot since high school. I rather a mom and pop shop any day then a franchise like IHOP or Perkins. The chefs cook in the back of the restaurant so it gets extremely warm in there. I would recommend wearing something lite. The food was very good the last time I went. My sister ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with two eggs and toast. I ordered the jersey omelette. This place also offers a lunch menu if you're not a breakfast person. The waiters and waitresses were accommodating and on point with the orders and refilling the coffee. There's a few spots to park in front of the building and at the corner there's a parking lot. The only downfall is that this place is ALWAYS packed. They have seating at the bar that doesn't require a wait if you're in a rush. I would recommend eating here if you're in the area! read more
