This is a no frills old school Jersey diner. If you are looking for white tablecloth and wine, this is not your place. The food is consistently good and the portions are large. The prices, make the value of this establishment amazing! If you're looking for a good consistent meal with fast friendly service for a more than reasonable price, this is your new home away from home. Enjoy!

Great customer menu options. The small town hospitality is a great way to keep me coming back!! Cozy and welcoming! Great tasting chef specials are also a great dollar value!!

A classic diner in the heart of Metuchen. Our server was kind, attentive, and patient with our large party of 10. We stopped in early enough to catch the lunch special, which includes an entree, soup of the day, and dessert (ice cream, pudding or jello)--all for $13.50! The reuben was stacked with corned beef, and the ratio of Russian dressing to Swiss cheese was just right (no one likes a soggy reuben). My wife ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. It was okay...definitely needed a lot more buffalo sauce. By the time we were leaving at 12:30 the place was filling up, and it was just a normal weekday. There's a reason they've been around for so long!

Ate there last week. Pleasant service. Good food. I wish they were open a little later.

He rudely snapped back saying "just normal cake frosting," as if there was no other options. But I then asked if it was buttercream or cream cheese, when he replied with buttercream he had such a degrading attitude acting like cream cheese was such a ridiculous option. After paying $3 for a small coffee, I took a sip and noticed it had almost no coffee taste. I went back and mentioned it, he rudely said he didn't understand what I meant, insisting he'd been making the same coffee for 20 years, as if coffee could never be diluted then STRONGLY implying the issue was me. He brought out the second cup and the little cream I asked for looked almost translucent. I then calmly just asked for a refund. He muttered something under his breath and then almost flung the money at me like I was a piece of sh*t, telling me to never come back. Im still speechless at what happened. I don't think I've ever had anyone in my life treat me even close to the way he did. I feel as if the second I parked facing the entry door and hung my handicapped placard I was targeted

The avocado toast, for example, isn't as filling or interesting. The autumn cloud cakes in particular are very fluffy with high-quality maple syrup and delicious cinnamon apple slices. I'd show up early or prepare to wait around 15-20 minutes. The service is pretty efficient, but this is a popular spot, and the tables fill up pretty quickly.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Is it worth seeing once? Also yes. It has that big, theatrical, old-school deli energy where the portions are part of the show. That said, I'm not in the camp that every good restaurant is automatically a five-star spot. When everything is a five, it gets harder to separate the truly elite places, the hometown heroes, and the restaurants worth planning a trip around. Harold's lands for me as a very solid three-point-something, graciously rounded to four because they have a Marine Corps flag hung in reception. The food was good, the portions were whatever you make it, and the whole place has novelty value without feeling like a total gimmick. The sandwiches are large enough to satisfy a hungry, medium-sized guy without completely defeating him. And honestly, on a menu full of meat, my favorite thing may have been the healthy pickled salad/pickle bar situation -- bright, crunchy, and a great counterbalance to the heavier deli classics. My biggest knock was the service atmosphere. There seemed to be an army of staff, but not much interaction beyond their phones. Maybe I caught it at an off time, and maybe the place comes alive when it's packed, but that kept the experience from feeling warmer or more special. Overall: fun stop, good food, convenient location, and worth doing if you're passing through. Memorable four.
