When I discovered you, you instantly had my heart at first bite with the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and first sip with the milkshake. I know this sounds big backed, but I would die for Henry. As for Vera, ignore all of those haters because you absolutely slay (people just can't accept that you're always serving more than they are). Anyway, I would recommend the R Burger or the Chicken Caeser Wrap sub grilled chicken for fried and you're golden (yea fattie ik) Also why get water when you get one of thise delicious specialty milkshakes! My only issue would be for the flamboyant humpty dumpty looking filipino waiter, you don't need to have an attitude and roll your eyes just because I asked you for ranch and you forgot! I stopped by Henry's Diner around 5 PM, right during the early dinner rush. Even though it was busy, I was seated quickly and the service was friendly and efficient. The diner has a bright, classic atmosphere with polished counters and constant student traffic, giving it that true "college diner" vibe. I ordered the American Cheeseburger, which came with crispy French fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The burger was cooked well and the cheese melted perfectly, and the fries had great seasoning. For only $12.75, the portion size was generous and definitely worth the price. A bonus for Rutgers students is that they accept RU meal swipes, which makes this one of the most convenient spots on campus. Before even approaching the door to Henry's Diner, the first thing I noticed was the LONG LINE. The restaurant is clean, organized, and moves at a very fast pace. The diner is very bright, a retro-modern diner look with the red vinyl booths and globe lights. Henry's diner has a large menu with various traditional diner foods to choose from. I chose to order the Nacho Burger and fries, which arrived in front of me fairly quickly. The burger was made more well-done than medium, causing it to be dry, which was a bit upsetting, but overall, the flavor was not bad. The fries, on the other hand, were delicious, perfectly crispy with a soft inside. Overall, food at Henry's diner was good but not something I'd consider great. After finishing two morning classes on March 24th, my friend and I finally treated ourselves to lunch at Henry's Diner around 1:30 PM. The diner is located right on Rutgers' Livingston campus, and I've always wondered why there's often a line outside -- today, I found out. Strangely, even though there were empty tables inside, we still had to wait about 20 minutes in the rain. It was a bit cold, so I hoped the food would be worth it. Our server wasn't the most enthusiastic, but he made an effort and checked on us a couple of times. I ordered the R Burgers, and my friend had the California Omelet. The portions were huge -- neither of us could finish, so we took the rest home. Both meals came with fries. They weren't anything special, just your standard diner fries, but they were crispy and hot, which I appreciated. My burger patty was juicy and flavorful, but I didn't enjoy the onions -- they were hard and undercooked, so I picked them out. My friend's omelet was great -- the eggs were cooked perfectly and the avocado tasted fresh. We waited over 20 minutes for the food, which felt a bit long, especially since we were hungry. If you're in a smaller group, you'll likely get seated faster. Once seated, I enjoyed the classic diner atmosphere, which felt authentic despite it being on campus. My server, Alexandra, was attentive and kind. I ordered the Nacho Burger, while my friend had the Southwestern Omelet. April 24th, 2025 was a beautiful sunny day. I decided to make the most of the weather and I headed to Henry's Diner right as they opened at 11:00 AM. Henry's Diner is located at 55 Rockafeller Road at Piscataway, New Jersey. There is a parking lot nearby. I had to wait about 5 minutes before entering the diner. Once seated, the wait staff asked me for my order. When I ordered a drink, I was able to watch them make it right in front of me, so I found that to be a nice touch. The diner has many specialties, but focuses on breakfast platters in the morning. Since it was lunch time, I decided to order one of their lunch specials named "The Classic", which was a fried chicken sandwich that came with fries. Inside, the diner has a retro atmosphere. I sat in the solo-dining section, which consisted of a marble countertop and red stools. The area has a "retro" feeling to it while also leaning into a "Scarlet Knight" theme. All of the countertops were clean. I waited 10 minutes before I got my food. The fries were complimented well with ketchup. The sandwich was also delicious. The saltiness of the chicken was combined with the sweetness of a brioche bun to give more flavor. At peak times, the line for Henry's can stretch outside the door and the wait can be quite long. This can be remedied by getting takeout instead of dining in, which always has a shorter line. The food is reasonably priced with most items below $10 to accommodate the student meal swipe limit. My friend has gotten the Tofu Tacos three times already, but still isn't tired of it yet! The tacos are stuffed with tofu, diced tomatoes, onions, and large pieces of avocado. She said that unlike other locations, the tofu actually has taste and is flavorful! The tacos come with a side of tortilla chips and salsa. I ordered the Smoked Salmon & Herbed Cream Cheese Crepe which came with salad on the side. Unfortunately, the first thing I noticed was the small size of the crepe compared to the salad. I went to Henry's Diner on Tuesday, November 14. I used my meal swipes when ordering and because I also ordered a milkshake I had to pay the extra 9 dollars out of pocket. Because i ate by myself I ate at the counter, which I found to be faster and more efficient. The only part I didn't enjoy was the wait outside, because of the wind and it being fall. When I got inside the wait for the server (Alex) wasn't long, he came to the counter within a minute and served people's coffee fast. I ordered a regular hamburger, well done with onion, lettuce, and avocado, along with an Oreo milkshake. The food took less than ten minutes to arrive and the milkshake was prepared right after to join it. The regular meal would be fully covered on a meal swipe but the addition of a milkshake made me have to pay the rest of it, which was around 7 dollars. Located on Livingston campus, I visited Henry's Diner on 4/1/25 with my girlfriend. We didn't have to worry about parking since we both live on Livingston campus but if those who are not on campus choose to visit, there are multiple lots around the back by Jersey Mikes Arena, and limited street parking options. Upon arriving, there was already a line outside the door, with many people huddling together and freezing due to the extreme wind in the forecast. We waited for approximately 30 minutes until we were seated at 1:00. The lady who seated us always has a smile on her face and it's a delight seeing her everytime we go to Henry's. However, our waitress had no personality and obviously seemed to be in the job for the money rather than greeting clientele with a smile on her face. She was blunt and took our orders but never checked in on us or offered us refills on our drinks. I ordered the Nacho Burger and my girlfriend ordered the French Dip. Luckily our entrees were somewhat decent. Our waitress also failed to follow instructions as we requested two boxes and only received one tiny one. The service really left a poor taste in my mouth which really killed the dining experience for me. I will say, I do like the interior of Henry's as it is sleek, with the color palette being reminiscent of the vintage diners (red, white, chrome) even though Henry's was not prefabricated. The music was awful and not fitting of this interior - resulting in a juxtaposition of ambiance (awful edm from the 2000s was playing in the afternoon). Luckily our meal plans covered the expenses (one meal swipe per person). Overall, I am confused as to why people are willing to wait so long in the cold for such awful service and just decent food. Since tipping isn't included with meal swipes, they provide a QR code for Venmo so you can tip them directly--a nice touch to support student workers. We started off with some coffee then ordered right away. I ordered the cinnamon French toast combo with bacon and it hit the spot. My friend tried the breakfast burger, which was something I'd never heard of before--it's a grilled hamburger with bacon and a fried egg. Parking might be a little tricky, but the 30 minute parking is either safe or you'll get a ticket, so you're really taking a risk when parking there. The tacos were not bad, but could have been better. The Asian slaw and sweet chili Thai sauce combined with the chicken was a great combo. It tasted good, but were a little dry. I'm on the Livingston campus often and always order for pick up when I need something to hold me over while studying. The diner can get realllllly busy and service can be slow if you're dining in, which is why I prefer to takeout. Depending on how busy it is and who's working, some of the employees can be a little rude, but there are a few who are the sweetest ladies! Food is very subpar lol definitely don't waste your money on their overpriced entrees. I've had their pasta and burgers and they aren't anything special. I've found that their wraps and sandwiches are more worth it. I used to love this place... used to. The staff is so friendly, but management made severe cuts to the numbers so the quality of service has gone down. My friends received burnt food although mine was okay-ish. While they may service a lot of college students the no free refill rule is a bit much. They charge about the same you'd pay at any other diner for a soda, without the luxury of a free refill, give me a break. One may make the assumption that cuts in staff were indicative of a decline in volume, however that would be false. A friend of mine engaged in a conversation with management about the staff cuts and learned the volume had nearly doubled. Riddle me this... if your volume doubles why make so many cuts? It doesn't make sense to me and this place was so good before. Perhaps I'll re-review this place when some changes for the better are made. Would be 4.5 stars, but I'll gladly round that up! "Friends Don't Let Friends Eat Campus Food." - A Random Ad. Well, this diner is on a college campus... without the campus-quality food! I remember reading Peter G.'s NJ.Com article about this diner opening up back in late 2013 (months after I graduated) and wished that this was existent during my time as a student. Well, since I was on campus to assist my friend with locating his future classes, we decided to dine here for lunch. We walked in, and were immediately seated (around 12:05pm on a Wednesday). We were then given menus. What was interesting about our menus was that they looked like small newspapers. As we looked, our pleasantly nice waitress (also a college student!) came by and took our drink orders. I inquired about their shake flavors, but she told me all they had were chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, which to me was just too standard & nothing unique. They should just simply list those three flavors in the menu instead of making patrons ask. My friend ordered water, and I ordered a Sierra Mist. Once she came back with our drinks, she took our orders. After a 13-16 minute wait, our food arrived. The menu says that their grilled cheese sandwiches are gourmet. For that, I decided to order one to see if this was in fact gourmet. I ordered the Prosciutto and Provolone Grilled Cheese Sandwich on a grilled panini bread. As the name states, this sandwich contained slices of prosciutto and mounds of provolone cheese inside the panini bread, all grilled to perfection. But the perfection doesn't stop there with this sandwich. My sandwich was served hot, with steam coming out. The prosciutto tasted fresh, and the gooey provolone cheese was perfectly melted with a rich taste sensation. I dipped my sandwich into ketchup for some extra flavor. Onions were also included in the sandwich too, which was fine. With divine flavors that resulted during the consumption of this sandwich, I'd say this particular one was gourmet. My friend ordered the classic Tuna Melt sandwich. This simply contained a mound of tuna salad, a tomato slice, and Swiss cheese on rye bread, which was also grilled. This also came out hot. He liked it. Both of our sandwiches came with a side of fries, cole slaw, and a pickle. We didn't bother eating the cole slaw and pickle since we weren't interested. The fries, unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. They appeared overcooked and tasted soggy. Even with the ketchup, it didn't make the fries taste even better. Even my friend said that we should have got "fresh" ones instead of these, in which I concurred. Needless to say, we didn't bother finishing our fries since we were mostly full from our sandwiches. I could knock a star off due to the fries, but since we were mostly full from our sandwiches, I didn't bother. Being full at an eatery is a good feeling and better than walking out "hangry". Our lovely waitress was excellent and provided attentive service throughout our experience. We felt that the prices ONLY for the sandwiches that we ordered were deemed reasonable based on the portion and the extras that were inclusive. The place had walls that were gray with isolated blocks of red. Speaking of red, the elevated seats on the booths were that color too. Right by the booths were black and white photos of historical people, and classic rock music played in the background at a low volume. How's that for a nice retro feeling, eh? Trendy light fixtures were on top too. This diner appeared to be clean. When you pay your bill, you have to pay up front, which is next to a fine display of cakes available for dessert (didn't order any). Cash, Credit, and RU Express is accepted for payments. The location is right across from the shuttle stop. In regards to the service speed, it was reasonable for those who are NOT IN A HURRY to get to their next class or jump on the shuttle to go somewhere else at Rutgers. Since my friend doesn't start classes until later on in the year, and I'm an alum, there was no negative impact on us. In favor of our waitress, our sandwiches, and the cleanliness of this diner, my friend and I say that this was an excellent experience. RU RAH RAH!! :D read more

Last time we dined here we had an overall good experience. We tried about ten things on the menu the four times we visited. The only food complaint was when we ordered the disco fries but never received it. And then when we finally did, it was not what we expected since it was just plain French fries with gravy and seasoning on top. A dish that I liked were the waffles with fruit because it was colorful, vibrant and tasty. The prices overall are okay, no complaints, especially since we were college students at the time. The location is good, in Livingston Plaza. The biggest critique would be the long wait for the food to be prepared. I think the longest we waited for our food to arrive was 45 minutes, which is not convenient for students (or even professors, faculty and staff) who are always on the run and have a million things going on in their schedules. read more

Quite surprised to see the low rating on Henry's. FOOD: Everything I've ever ordered has been pretty good, particularly by diner standards. Their chicken noodle soup is made in-house, with GRILLED chicken, loaded with fresh carrots and celery, and a ton of herbs. Epicurean Scrambler are all winners, great salads, gyros, and yummy multi-grain toast. AMBIANCE: Clever motifs with the newspaper menus and retro diner with historical Rutgers photography. Very clean and new. SERVICE: The main thing I will penalize for is the service. Because it's inconsistent. Sometimes I'll get a rock star like today, and others I'll get a nincompoop. And for some strange reason it has always been an ordeal when it's time to pay. The cash change had been calculated manually on a calculator, the credit card swipe was a 13-step process, or splitting a bill took 4 scientists to accomplish. 2.5 stars. I have eaten here several times now and the place is OK. For starters the decor is really nice and the transformation of the Piscataway campus is unreal! The menus are really neat too, it's a newspaper. The staff on the other could be a lot better. Not going to dig into them because they are just college students but they could be a bit more attentive. The food...well it's just ok. I had a few wraps from here and they're nothing spectacular. Also going to add it's a little pricy...if you want to sub the fries that come with your meal for something else...they charge you full price for the add on. I just went there last night and it was even better than I remembered. Many people have the misconception that Henry's diner is just Rutgers dining hall quality food that's for sale. They're totally wrong! I had the Brie & Cranberry grilled cheese, which comes on amazing soft Texas Toast. The side of fries were surprisingly amazing. I could have eaten a whole plate of them myself. You can even build your own pasta at Henry's. My boyfriend ordered fettuccine with vodka & mushrooms, which was also SO good. Most diners are almost always dirty and gloomy, but not Henry's! Henry's is super bright and clean, which makes it a great place to hangout with friends. Henry's is open until 12 on weekdays but only 8:30pm on the weekends, which I completely don't understand. They'd be flooded with drunk college students all night long if they extended their hours on the weekends. I really hope they make that change in the future! read more

We stopped in for a quick bite just before graduation ceremonies began. I had been on campus several times but Henry's was never open when we were there. Alas our last visit to campus and we struck gold. Our server Joe was attentive and thorough. The restaurant is spotless and beautifully decorated. The menu is adorable, it actually looks like a newspaper. There is a huge variety and the food is very good, not to mention the portions are very generous. Some had pasta, where you created your own padre meal by picking the pasta type, sauce and add ins, others had breakfast and no one was disappointed. A nice break from traditional campus food. They have a good variety on their menu. Don't expect gourmet dining - they serve value priced meals in a clean, new, attractive setting. The food is very good. While it took a little while to get seated (it was a Friday night), we told the waitress we were in a rush to catch a movie. She took our orders quickly and the food was served quickly. Good, friendly service (although she missed a couple of our minor requests on the meals, such as serving onions when we asked for no onions on the burger). Stopped by here Monday afternoon for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Brie and cranberry grilled cheese which was an interesting combination that worked. Ordered a chocolate coconut milkshake on the side which was definitely the highlight of the meal. The milkshake was thick (as it should be) and had chocolate chip and coconut pieces perfectly blended in, not to mention it was large! The menu here is extensive, portions were big, and prices are reasonable. Given that this is located on a college campus I would expect nothing less. Definitely a great spot to hang out with some friends and grab a quick bite. read more

On Livingston campus of Rutgers University is an oasis in the dining desert of the campus. Henry's Diner is new and a welcome sight to college students and people in the area. For the longest time it would seem that Livingston was the forgotten campus but now there have been welcome additions such as other shops and eating places on the campus even a movie theater. I consider this place the oasis since this is Jersey..and it is diner named after Henry Rutgers if I'm not mistaken. Ambiance: The place is nice, clean, and functional. Food: The food is ok, but does not really stand out. I had the pecan waffle with banana, I liked the combination of the waffle and pecan, but for some reason the texture of waffle did not wow me. I must commend them for serving the syrup warmed up, major plus!! My friend had the prosciutto and provolone grille. I got to try some, only because I didn't want to disappoint my readers by failing to give feedback on another meal hehe. Again it was ok, The fries were ok, but again did not wow me. Although the taste was average, I must commend them on presentation and overall impression of cleanliness. Nonetheless I would still go to this place since its convenient and I feel compelled to try their strawberry shortcake. They were out of it at my visit. read more

The food was bad, the services was bad... First, we waited 20 minutes for a table, despite it only being half full. Took forever for a waiter to come over to us. I ordered a specialty grilled cheese and it was cold and gross. Okay, whatever. Ordered a pork roll egg & cheese and the bread was soggy, the eggs were burnt and the pork roll was gray. Also the breakfast potatoes were chopped so tiny and tasted funny. Not once did anyone come over to ask if we liked our food-- we had to try multiple times to flag our waiter down. I get that they're college kids, but, like, still. There's so many great diners in NJ, don't waste your time or money here. read more

On a lovely Tuesday early afternoon, I recently took the time to dine at the beautiful Henry's Diner here on the Rutgers Livingston campus, and it was extremely delightful. The price was decent, considering I used my meal swipe, but it came to only 9 dollars. Even though I had to wait around 15 minutes in line to get inside, it was very worth it, and the time you wait is made up by service and tastefulness of the food by the employees. This diner caters to students here at Rutgers and is usually packed. When I walked inside and sat at my section, I was greeted almost immediately by my server, and it was a very polite, warm environment and conversation I experienced. I enjoyed the way the diner decorations are; they feel modern, with a bit of a classic taste to them, which makes them stand out in a good way. As for the food, it was extremely remarkable and refined; I initially didn't think it would taste as good as it did. I didn't have to wait long for my food either, it took less than 15 mins, which was good. I had ordered the cheese omelet with a side of home fries and toast. Overall, the service, the food, and the scenery were flawless and fabulous. read more

Wow. No really. Wow!! Staff is lost. New waiter. No clue. Auctioned off food. No water. 4 of 13 meals came 12 minutes after everyone else. Walking from the bathroom I saw the manager in the office not managing the restaurant. I said out loud but not raising my voice "That's why the place is running like this." The very aggressive manager then came out (the first time seeing our table, he can't see t hey wallls.) and asked what was wrong and before I could finish he cut me off and said "It's a party of 13 what do you expect" read more

Pretty good food. Lots of options and pretty substantial portions. I haven't had the breakfast options, but I've heard they're good. I've had the wraps a few times and they were pretty good. Fresh mozzarella and good meats in it. The fries were meh. I've had better, but I've also had worse. The fried veggie appetizer was awesome, although really unhealthy. It was a small establishment and can get busy at certain times. Especially right before a game since it is right by one of the arenas. Overall it was a good diner and I will definitely be back. read more
