    Buffalo Chicken Sandwich
    Gavin P.

Henry's--Pookie. They can never make you hate you. You've built dreams, you've built drama, you've made memories, and those other dining halls & retail locations wish they are you. When I discovered you, you instantly had my heart at first bite with the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and first sip with the milkshake. I know this sounds big backed, but I would die for Henry. As for Vera, ignore all of those haters because you absolutely slay (people just can't accept that you're always serving more than they are). Anyway, I would recommend the R Burger or the Chicken Caeser Wrap sub grilled chicken for fried and you're golden (yea fattie ik) Also why get water when you get one of thise delicious specialty milkshakes! My only issue would be for the flamboyant humpty dumpty looking filipino waiter, you don't need to have an attitude and roll your eyes just because I asked you for ranch and you forgot! I don't think the walk to the kitchen and back isn't that bad honey!

On October 30th, I grabbed lunch at Henry's Diner, taking the LX bus and getting off at the Livingston Plaza. From there, it was a quick walk to the diner. I arrived at 1:30 pm, the wait time was surprisingly not bad. It took about 20 minutes to be seated, but that's usually not the case at any other time. If you're in a smaller group, you'll likely get seated faster. Once seated, I enjoyed the classic diner atmosphere, which felt authentic despite it being on campus. My server, Alexandra, was attentive and kind. I ordered the Nacho Burger, while my friend had the Southwestern Omelet. Our food arrived in under 10 minutes, and Alexandra checked in to ensure we were satisfied. The portions were filling, but I'd give my meal a 7/10 since it lacked flavor. I paid with a meal swipe, but they also offer other ways to pay.

April 24th, 2025 was a beautiful sunny day. I decided to make the most of the weather and I headed to Henry's Diner right as they opened at 11:00 AM. Henry's Diner is located at 55 Rockafeller Road at Piscataway, New Jersey. There is a parking lot nearby. I had to wait about 5 minutes before entering the diner. Once seated, the wait staff asked me for my order. When I ordered a drink, I was able to watch them make it right in front of me, so I found that to be a nice touch. The diner has many specialties, but focuses on breakfast platters in the morning. Since it was lunch time, I decided to order one of their lunch specials named "The Classic", which was a fried chicken sandwich that came with fries. Inside, the diner has a retro atmosphere. I sat in the solo-dining section, which consisted of a marble countertop and red stools. The area has a "retro" feeling to it while also leaning into a "Scarlet Knight" theme. All of the countertops were clean. I waited 10 minutes before I got my food. The fries were complimented well with ketchup. The sandwich was also delicious. The saltiness of the chicken was combined with the sweetness of a brioche bun to give more flavor. I wanted to mention that if you are a Rutgers student, Henry's Diner does take meal swipes, so it's a great option to use your meal plan.

Located on Livingston campus, I visited Henry's Diner on 4/1/25 with my girlfriend. We didn't have to worry about parking since we both live on Livingston campus but if those who are not on campus choose to visit, there are multiple lots around the back by Jersey Mikes Arena, and limited street parking options. Upon arriving, there was already a line outside the door, with many people huddling together and freezing due to the extreme wind in the forecast. We waited for approximately 30 minutes until we were seated at 1:00. The lady who seated us always has a smile on her face and it's a delight seeing her everytime we go to Henry's. However, our waitress had no personality and obviously seemed to be in the job for the money rather than greeting clientele with a smile on her face. She was blunt and took our orders but never checked in on us or offered us refills on our drinks. I ordered the Nacho Burger and my girlfriend ordered the French Dip. Luckily our entrees were somewhat decent. Our waitress also failed to follow instructions as we requested two boxes and only received one tiny one. The service really left a poor taste in my mouth which really killed the dining experience for me. I will say, I do like the interior of Henry's as it is sleek, with the color palette being reminiscent of the vintage diners (red, white, chrome) even though Henry's was not prefabricated. The music was awful and not fitting of this interior - resulting in a juxtaposition of ambiance (awful edm from the 2000s was playing in the afternoon). Luckily our meal plans covered the expenses (one meal swipe per person). Overall, I am confused as to why people are willing to wait so long in the cold for such awful service and just decent food. I can see Henry's as being a cute date spot as it is the only sit down option where Rutgers students can meal swipe however, if you can please spend your time somewhere else.

Cinnamon French Toast Combo with coffee

Henry's Diner, located on the Livingston campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, is a cozy, lively spot to grab a meal using your Rutgers meal swipe. I went with my friend right at opening (11 AM) and waited about 10 minutes outside to be seated. We didn't worry about parking since we use the Rutgers bus system but there is a big parking lot located behind the diner as well as parking on the street, just be aware of what times you are able to park. Inside, the vibe was upbeat, and our waitress, Akua Aggrey, was super sweet and attentive. Most of the staff are Rutgers students, which adds to the friendly atmosphere. Since tipping isn't included with meal swipes, they provide a QR code for Venmo so you can tip them directly--a nice touch to support student workers. We started off with some coffee then ordered right away. I ordered the cinnamon French toast combo with bacon and it hit the spot. My friend tried the breakfast burger, which was something I'd never heard of before--it's a grilled hamburger with bacon and a fried egg. Just a heads-up: coffee refills are rare, and add-ons come with an extra charge outside of the swipe. Our food arrived within 10-15 minutes and we were out in less than an hour after paying with a meal and guest swipe. Overall, a convenient, tasty experience with great service and a welcoming student-run environment.

At peak times, the line for Henry's can stretch outside the door and the wait can be quite long. This can be remedied by getting takeout instead of dining in, which always has a shorter line. The food is reasonably priced with most items below $10 to accommodate the student meal swipe limit. My friend has gotten the Tofu Tacos three times already, but still isn't tired of it yet! The tacos are stuffed with tofu, diced tomatoes, onions, and large pieces of avocado. She said that unlike other locations, the tofu actually has taste and is flavorful! The tacos come with a side of tortilla chips and salsa. I ordered the Smoked Salmon & Herbed Cream Cheese Crepe which came with salad on the side. Unfortunately, the first thing I noticed was the small size of the crepe compared to the salad. Although the crepes (2) were nicely filled with smoked salmon and herbed cream cheese, the overall crepes were pretty small and not very filling. However, the smoked salmon wasn't salty like it usually is and it pairs very nicely with the cream cheese.

I went to Henry's Diner on Tuesday, November 14. I used my meal swipes when ordering and because I also ordered a milkshake I had to pay the extra 9 dollars out of pocket. Because i ate by myself I ate at the counter, which I found to be faster and more efficient. The only part I didn't enjoy was the wait outside, because of the wind and it being fall. When I got inside the wait for the server (Alex) wasn't long, he came to the counter within a minute and served people's coffee fast. I ordered a regular hamburger, well done with onion, lettuce, and avocado, along with an Oreo milkshake. The food took less than ten minutes to arrive and the milkshake was prepared right after to join it. The regular meal would be fully covered on a meal swipe but the addition of a milkshake made me have to pay the rest of it, which was around 7 dollars. The inside of it was clean and it made for an enjoyable experience.

Extremely long waiting line, terrible attitude

Long waiting time, bad service attitude. The food here get you diarrhea. However it accepts college meal swipes. It would only recommend college students to come here

Henry's Diner is situated on the Livingston campus and I visited around lunch time on Wednesday, March 21st. Although busy when I first arrived it did not take long to get seated and one of the first things I noticed was how clean the interior was. I was sat down, greeted warmly by my server and soon after, ordered the Shroom n' Swiss Burger. It did not take long for the food to come out and it tasted amazing. Considering that I used a meal swipe to order and received an entree, side and drink, I would say that it well worth it. Overall the experience was amazing, the servers/staff were very welcoming and I plan on returning some time very soon.

    Pulled pork sandwich to go

when you walk in, there's a retro vibe going on. The menus are newspapers which is pretty neat. They have an extensive menu, just like any other diners. My go-to is the pulled pork sandwich. Just so good!! They also have delicious desserts, ranging from eclairs to chocolate cake to cupcakes. Depending on who is serving it, sometimes the cake slices are big and other times they're just average. Overall, a really neat place to check out if you're nearby Livingston.

This place is good! I go on evenings and usually have to wait on line. Parking might be a little tricky, but the 30 minute parking is either safe or you'll get a ticket, so you're really taking a risk when parking there. The service is good and many of them are college students. When I went to Henry's, I had the Thai Chicken Tacos With chips. The plate presentation was nice. The tacos were not bad, but could have been better. The Asian slaw and sweet chili Thai sauce combined with the chicken was a great combo. It tasted good, but were a little dry. I personally wouldn't order this specific plate again, but will most definitely continue coming here. There's been a few additions to their menu! Including tacos, sandwiches and wraps. Check those out when you go!

Grilled veggie salad with spinach. Half price salads all summer

Because I work on Livingston Campus, this is my go-to lunch spot. Of course, you can never expect too much from on-campus food, but this is by far the best place to eat on Livi. Let's think of the options: student center food-- NO! hoja-- HELL NO! qdoba-- you can get sick of it. Starbucks & 16 Handles-- Yes, for coffee, snacks, and froyo. But if you want an actual meal and don't feel like traveling, come to Henry's. Style-- I absolutely adore the newspaper style menu. Well-crafted. It even has green circles for Veggie options and Pink circles for "awesome." The booths are a cozy diner feel with a modern touch. The lighting is perfect in the daytime. Menu-- http://food.rutgers.edu/images/uploads/file/Menu%20vol%202small.pdf Food-- Portion size is excellent for the price. You can't get better on campus. Their breakfast options are great. They even have well-made eggs benedicts and dishes with lox. I enjoyed their crepes as well. Their panini sandwiches and wraps are great too. For a healthier option, I am a huge fan of the grilled vegetable wrap-- it doesn't skim out on ingredients. Ask for a side of basil pesto sauce with it: really great. Their sweet potato fries are the best I've tasted around NB area. Definitely replace the regular fries with them. Everything you order is pretty damn fresh-- don't be afraid to order seafood and medium rare beef on burgers. If you order an entrée like a pasta dish, be prepared for a huge plate. Same with their salads: humongous! :) Pricing-- You really can't beat their pricing on-campus. The student center will charge you the same price for much less, and worse quality food. Show a Rutgers ID to avoid paying tax. Don't forget to bring your check to pay up front, because they won't let you pay at the table.

I used to love this place... used to. The staff is so friendly, but management made severe cuts to the numbers so the quality of service has gone down. My friends received burnt food although mine was okay-ish. While they may service a lot of college students the no free refill rule is a bit much. They charge about the same you'd pay at any other diner for a soda, without the luxury of a free refill, give me a break. One may make the assumption that cuts in staff were indicative of a decline in volume, however that would be false. A friend of mine engaged in a conversation with management about the staff cuts and learned the volume had nearly doubled. Riddle me this... if your volume doubles why make so many cuts? It doesn't make sense to me and this place was so good before. Perhaps I'll re-review this place when some changes for the better are made. The menu being made to look like a newspaper is pretty cool, but beyond that not really anything is memorable about this place. Oh wait, yucca fries, I love them!

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.
