Nice breakfast at the 'set. Egg sandwich was fresh and tasty, and my companion's Tuscan omelet was "yummy." Coffee was not bad, certainly better than the Old Bridge. Summary: a classic NJ diner, and all that that entails: varied customer base, TV showing ABC news, and attentive if slightly stressed waitresses.

Somerset Diner 1045 Easton Ave. Somerset, NJ 08873 Western Omelette The portion size of the omelette was very large. The home fries and eggs were served hot. There was a perfect ratio of ham, peppers, and onions in the omelette. Service was fast and friendly. As a bonus, some of the booths have USB chargers if you need to charge your cellular device. As another bonus, this location is open 24 hours. (Most diners in this area close between 8 PM - 10 PM.) I'm looking forward to exploring their other breakfast menu options.

Hit up Somerset Diner again. Have probably gone literally over a thousand times from when I was a child to now as an adult. Today, I opted for a light lunch, no dessert (but believe me I was tempted as I walked past the glass display case!). I got a mushroom and feta cheese omelette with french fries on the side and a glass of cranberry juice. The feta cheese crumbles were generous, there was generous portions of mushrooms and it was a deliciously hearty omelette. It really hit the spot! Alas, today was not a dessert day but trust me I will be back to get something behind that tasty and always tempting glass display!

This is the best diner in the area. Rutgers students get a 10% discount. The place has been around for a while but you'd never know because it's always bright, clean and tidy. Service is always pleasant, no matter who we get. The menu seems smaller than other diners, but the options are all great. The pancakes I had most recently were the best I've ever seen!

Five stars is my updated review for this iconic New Jersey Diner that's always open. The staff makes this diner awesome! They've been exceptionally thoughtful and energetic at all hours of the night, including when I come in for 3:30 a.m. breakfast. I'm a night owl by nature and being with my flock here truly puts me in a good mood. This diner is the perfect place for hearty home style food, fresh brewed coffee, and people like me who feel their best in the middle of the night.

The most exciting thing for me going back to Jersey is hitting a diner and getting mozzarella sticks among other things. Somerset Diner used to be a rare treat when I was in college, but it was just okay. I would return, but wouldn't go out of my way to hit this diner. The mozz sticks were pretty good indeed, but everything else was just okay. Didn't give me toast with my juevitos, so a bit of a ding for that. club sandwich was just ehh. Overall it's fine. I can see why the score overall is sub 3, and i know diners usually don't score that well in Yelp

As is aptly described by the name, Somerset Diner is located in Somerset, NJ. I went on March 26th around 1 p.m., during what I would describe as the "lunch rush." Although the hostess was initially busy when we entered, we did not wait long to be seated. I paid about 48 dollars for my girlfriend and I, which is definitely not cheap -- but, as I'm from Manhattan, any meal for two under 60 unfortunately pleasantly surprises me. There is a 10% Rutgers student discount, but I forgot to take advantage of it. The servers here are pretty great, I've been to plenty of diners in my life and this is the only diner I've ever been to where they've (multiple times) offered to butter an English muffin in the kitchen without me even asking. The food here is pretty good. The chicken fingers are a league above those of the average diner's and the breakfast food is average to slightly above average. But the real stand out thing about this place is the ambiance. The decorations are so tacky that they circle around to being genuinely beautiful. The windows are huge and not even campy-beautiful, they are just beautiful. The fact that it's still open 24-hours is also an unfortunately unique selling point post-COVID. Unbelievably, my neighborhood in Manhattan does not have a single 24-hour diner. The food may not seem exceptional compared to the myriad of other choices during the day, but it is some of the best food you can get after a night-out.

    No feta cheese

These women have no idea how to solve problems, I asked for a Florentine Omelette and they just gave me spinach, I kindly asked the server to check why they didn't put the feta cheese in; so then this crazy women came to my table without a greeting to yell at me, telling me that they make a new omelet but that it is the same since they crumble the feta with the spinach, and despite this it still didn't have any cheese and didn't have any taste at all. When I went to the register, she asked me how it was and I told her the truth: no flavor and told her that they should just charge me for an spinach omelet. She then started yelling at me, saying she was the manager, and then she says "I'm just going to charge you for an spinach omelet, and, I never want to see you here again." Really now. Such customer service is abominable and unacceptable. She never expected that it was going to be on camera. So called manager doesn't even know how to treat people.

    Waiting area

Somerset Diner is conveniently located off of Easton Ave in Somerset New Jersey. This diner is open 24 hours, has lots of parking available, and lots of indoor seating available as well. I stopped by Somerset Diner for Lunch on a Monday afternoon around noon. The diner had a solid crowd but no wait time. Upon our arrival, my friends and I were immediately greeted and directed to a table. This diner was well-maintained and clean. I enjoyed the diner's ambiance and how it was decorated for Halloween as well. As soon as we sat at our table our server greeted us and provided us with suggestions on what to order. The menu had a huge selection of many different food options. I ended up ordering a country breakfast wrap with a side of french fries. The food came out within about 15 minutes and tasted delicious. Our server forgot to bring out our drinks, but other than that everything was great. My wrap had a lot of flavor and was cooked perfectly. My fries were very crispy and cooked well, I just think they could have used more seasoning. Overall, my experience at Somerset Diner was pleasant. The food and service were good and the prices were very reasonable, my meal only ended up being around 10 dollars. Somerset Diner also offers a student discount for Rutgers students, which is a plus. I definitely will be back!

Even with a dozen people on Saturday night, we managed to get seated. With the wide variety of menu choices, everyone was able to get exactly what they wanted. One very interesting dish I hadn't thought of was the chicken pot pie, which sounds very pedestrian, but wait until you see it. Amazing. I ordered the Ahi Tuna salad and it tasted every bit as good as it's picture-perfect looks. Superb service, plus literally everything that came to the table looked like a magazine picture. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Over time, I've noticed a clear decline in quality at the New Brunswick location. In contrast, the Hillsborough location has remained relatively consistent, which makes the difference even more noticeable. To be fair, I'm willing to give a pass on the slower service during this visit since we were seated outside and it seemed like they may not have been fully staffed for that area. That said, the bigger issue was the food. We ordered ravioli and chicken parm with pasta. The ravioli sauce was extremely watery, to the point where it resembled soup rather than a proper sauce. The chicken parm was overcooked, as was the pasta. It's disappointing to say, but based on this experience and the overall downward trend, I don't see myself returning to this location anytime soon.

A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

I don't know if this is the case for the entire restaurant, but the downstairs had bouncy ukulele covers for the entirety of our time there. It was also a bit too loud. I felt like I had to get up to hear someone sitting a few people away from me, or speak too loud to for shared space because there's a bouncy ukulele covers of Without You by The Kid LAROI.
