I've been to this diner twice before, the first time mid-afternoon and the second time early in the morning with a large group. Both times, the diner was relatively empty, so we had no problem being seated, More recently, I went with a large group, so we had to be split between two tables. We were offered free hot coffee, which I greatly appreciated. I ordered the eggs benedict and I do admit that the presentation could be improved upon, as the food appeared a bit messy, especially with the hollandaise sauce. I came here to meet up with my brother after work to get some lunch. The staff here seemed pretty friendly but they could smile a little more to give a warm welcome feeling. Chicken Noodle Soup: This was perfect on a cold winter's day and it kept me warm. It had the correct ingredients and tasted delicious with enough flavor. Gyro: My brother said this tasted really good and was one of the best gyros he has had in a long time. Chicken Parm on a Roll: The chicken was cooked well and had enough taste to it from the sauce. We have been going here for quite sometime and always had a fantastic experience. Tonight the highlight to my meal was the service. The waitress was great! I ordered the fish and chips special and was not anything that I expected. The soup that came with it "tomato rice" was acceptable but lacking in the rice department. The fish was flat "cod" fish cakes that were overcooked and Mrs.Pauls would better suited this meal. The fries was overdone and few on the plate. The menu offered few choices and since we were last there the special menu has been removed from the menu. We once enjoyed dining at this establishment and always found it to be good, but with the absence of the once special menu and limited menu items I would find it difficult to dine here again. My friends and I went to Fontainebleau Diner for breakfast. When we arrived we noticed that parking was busy, but due to the large lot size there were plenty of spots available. The inside of the diner is large, with an abundance of tables. We were seated immediately and the service was quick as waters were brought to us as soon as we were seated. The menu was large with many options, including vegan and gluten free. The all day breakfast menu was our favorite. We each ordered a different meal and everything came out quickly and was delicious. I would most defiantly recommend the omelets as they were a highlight of the visit. The diner had a modern feel to it, but the booths allowed for it to maintain its diner charm. This American Diner was a Mid-Century modern style making it a nostalgic place for customers. A typical Jersey diner. I came here with a group of 6 and they were accommodating of the larger party. Our server, Sandy, was really sweet and made us feel welcome. The food itself though was kind of disappointing. Diner food doesn't need to be the best meal of your life but it should be satisfying comfort food. A lot of our dishes missed that mark. My fries tasted like they were reheated from a frozen package. A few of my friends ordered waffles and they all felt the waffles tasted funny. The whipped cream was a bit stale. I got an ice cream shake that was reasonable and one of my friends liked the chicken tenders. My meal (fries and a shake) came out to a little under $15 with tax and tip. worst coffee I've ever been served! It had to be five days old. One sip and I knew not to ask for another cup . Then my soup came--seafood bisque. No fish in the seafood soup! And it was ice cold. After sending it back two times, it arrived somewhat warm. It tasted like bean soup minus the beans. Lots of noodles too. No seafood! I gave up. Finally lunch came and the gyro was cool and hard. So the prices of the dishes honestly weren't bad considering it includes both a soup AND salad, as well as your drink. I thought that was really nice, also our waitress was a sweetheart, we loved her. Unfortunately the food was extremely bland. First time eating from here. We had the food delivered, so I expected some decline in quality because of that process, but in this case the main items were just plain badly done. The eggs were fine, the Home fries were actually Great! Kudos! The bacon was Ok, but it fell victim to a poor packaging decision. The pork roll they use tastes & looks more like Canadian bacon (not a fan of that). They give ample butter & syrup packets, plenty of plastic forks & knives, & a good amount of salt & pepper, so that's good. The French Toast because of it's texture, was also good, so no complaints there. But back to this poor packaging decision: The "Crispy Belgian Waffle" (they're description, not mine), & Pancakes fell victim to it. I could tell those items were freshly packaged, the problem is the foam containers were not given holes to "breathe." They could have just poked some in, but they didn't. As a result, the "crispy" waffle & pancakes were so soggy by the time that they arrived that they actually came across as under cooked. Could they have been? Sure! Haven't been here in years but was in the area and took my daughter and her friend here to eat. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but we were seated right away. The one thing that really bothered me was they try to fit so many ppl in that you are almost sitting on top of one another and the people next to us were loud and you couldn't help but listen to their whole conversation which I really didn't care to hear. While most diners are 'typically' the same fare... this one has better customer service than most. To me THAT is their unique factor. One of the main reasons is our server Stephanie. I was looking for one of my diner favorites, an open hot turkey sandwich. Well, I didn't see it on the menu, which is extensive, so I asked. She pointed out the turkey dinner which was in the $20 range. It included soup, salad a couple of sides, I think a drink. She picked up on the fact I wasn't excited and told me she could tailor it too the turkey on bread w/gravy and mashed or fries, perfect! It was a much better price for lunch. She served it and without asking brought extra gravy. It was real off the bone turkey and nice thick gravy. It was all very hot. My wife had spinach pie, side Greek salad, very good, Cream of Mushroom soup, just ok and an Arnold Palmer. We had a very nice lunch and will definitely return. Credit where credit is due: the inside is well kept and has a nice appearance and much of the staff seemed very nice. My waitress, Donna, was very inattentive. After a sigh that she had tables to wait on, she waited on tables that were sat after me. She even went to them multiple times for drink and food orders before she once came to mine. By the time the food came, she had forgotten an item and said she would be right back... after she sat down at a table to talk about life with another staff member. I recently wrote about the Asian Supermarket I've begun frequenting in Piscataway. One day while on the prowl for food in this area I came upon "The Fontainbleau" diner. Located in an intersection with stores including a Target and Harmon's, this place is definitely in a prime location. In Jersey, diners are a dime a dozen so trying out a new one is always a mixed bag. It could be a great experience, it could be wretched, rarely does it fall in the middle somewhere. I have to say this for The Fontainbleau, this place is *big*. Larger than any of the diners in my area around Elizabeth (though the Galaxy Diner might rival it), I was quite impressed by the amount of dining space. I noticed at the cashier/hostess area there was a HUGE plate of cookies for guests to have on their way out. Mints, I love. Cookies trump mints any day! This already brightened up my attitude. My girlfriend and I were seated in a booth in the corner, which I like since it gave me a nice view of the intersection and it meant I wasn't in a high traffic zone. The interior is blue, white and silver themed staying true to its name (as an aside, their take-out menu is also printed on blue paper). The staff was very fast and courteous. Our waitress appeared surprisingly fast to take our drink orders. As she went off to get coffee and water for us, I noticed the table already had an assortment of honey, jam and syrup at the table in small packets. This, I have to say, was new to me. Most diners will give such items to you once you order, but rarely is it just there to greet you at the table. Nice touch! I ordered spinach, feta and tomato omelet. When this thing came, let me tell you, I honestly didn't know if I could finish it. The thing was *huge*. It took up most of a fairly large plate, accompanied by whole wheat toast and home fries - all for less than $10, no seriously (I think it was about $8.95 or so, it's been a few weeks since I went). The omelet was large and delicious. The veggies tasted fresh and the home fries had that wonderful crisp layer on top with a soft layer underneath. Everything was wonderfully warm, clearly nothing sat waiting til it was brought to our table. The toast was nice and crispy as well. Simply put, it was a wonderful breakfast! The waitress came over and checked on us twice, just enough for us to feel cared about, but not so much that we couldn't have a good conversation. NJ = Diners. Its just what we do. My friends and I have been Fountainbleu regulars for years. As a high school student, it didn't get any better, or cheaper, than here. A friend and I were here for breakfast and the check for two came out to $13. For prompt service and ridiculous sized portions, there is nothing to complain about! Chocolate chip pancakes and cinnamon french toast are good. I like their eggs, but not a fan of home fries. Rice pudding is yum, as well as chicken fingers. Pork roll is a NJ staple. Don't expect much from beverages since they're most likely canned/from a machine. As a general diner rule, the more expensive the item, the more likely you'll be dissapointed. This place runs fast and follows a quantity over quality meal, but I'm usually quite happy to attempt to finish my plate (and fail and get the takeout bag). An affordable diner with a simple menu. This diner is exactly what you would expect. The food comes in a pretty decent portion. It is always filling, and they have a great variety of entrees to pick from. I usually order the corn beef hash and eggs, which is delicious. This trip we ordered a pastrami sandwich with home fries and golden French toast with a side of corn beef hash and eggs. The French toast was nice and crispy on the outside and tasted fresh. This place may have the same name as an over the top South Beach Miami hotel, this is just a typical NJ diner, right out of central casting. That does not mean it is bad thing. We got our laminated menus with dozens of options to order from and settled on omelets and coffee. I got cheese, tomatoes and spinach with potatoes and some toast. As an added bonus, since I ordered off the lunch menu, it came with a fruit salad as well. It was all decent food and the service was pretty good as well. This place is pretty cheap.
