This place has all the potential to be a great restaurant. The atmosphere and various seating areas are all great spaces. We wanted to sit inside in their cozy booth area but it was a bit warm and stuffy inside so we opted for the street side patio under the trellis. It was a little windy and cold out but the heaters did a good job warming us up. Moving on to the food. Here's where they fall a bit short for the price point. Grilled Bone Marrow - pickled shallots vinaigrette, red onion jam, grilled bread - it had a extra thick burnt crust and was a little too over salted for my liking. The weirdest thing is the all the expected gooey marrow didn't have all that melty fat and oozy qualities one would expect, especially since it had so much char. The bread was also a tad over charred and roughed the inside of my mouth up. The red onion jam was delicious. Potato Pierogies - peach butter, sour cream espuma, pecorino cheese - this was good! They had a fantastic crunchy shell and all the flavors worked well together. Tapioca Crusted Snapper - sushi rice cake, white soy vinaigrette, charred broccoli rabe - I loved the tapioca crust idea, it gave great texture and was really good for soaking and holding the vinaigrette flavor. The vinaigrette was a little too acidic for me but it was easily solved, I just didn't dip and swish my bite as much. The crispy rice was a nice touch. Big Shell Mac n' Cheese - sheeps' milk ricotta, comté mornay - this was the star of the meal, they was 4 giant shells filled with a nice cheesy filling. The flavors were really Good, the chef hit it out of the park. Creekstone bone-in prime ribeye - I think we got the ribeye, see the photo but this was over a month ago so I don't exactly remember. We order medium rare and got medium. It was a bit disappointing since this seems like it should be their "thing". That's the end of my steak story. Service was great, our waitress was nice and came back amply to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We found an open spot in the back of their tiny parking lot. This cozy restaurant is right in downtown Solvang and quickly became my boyfriend and I's favorite spot in this cute little town. We came here after hearing from some friends who went during the month of December- we went the week of Christmas and the end of January. The vibes of the restaurant is pretty similar to House of Prime Rib: moody, romantic, and in a way elegant? The first time we came here, we didn't have a reservation (our fault since we came to Solvang on a whim) and it was a Saturday around 5pm. The hostess was super kind and was able to put us on the waitlist which was about an hour. With that hour to kill, we got to enjoy a stroll through downtown and check out the MANY different stores. We got seated within 45 minutes and our waitress was incredibly kind & patient with us. She recommended the mussel dish- who knew mussels & chorizo would taste so good together?! We both got the dry aged ribeyes and they were cooked perfectly at a medium I didn't care much for the salad that came with the steaks, but the asparagus and Brussels sprouts were delicious. Went to this place on a whim because it was one of the few restaurants open pass 9pm in Solvang on a Saturday and was extremely pleased to see several Michelin awards on the window! We had the rolls, Caesar salad, French onion soup, beef stroganoff and the snapper and literally licked the plates clean. My husband and I went to Solvang for our anniversary and as I yelped dinner ideas, we came across Coast Range. We absolutely loved the vibe. So sweet they had a glass of champagne waiting for us at the table upon arrival. The service was amazing as well as the food and drinks. Good food and beautiful atmosphere. We decided to eat at the bar and had good service from our bartender! She was helpful and could make a good drink! My husband and I split a salad and he had the chicken with Mac and cheese and I had the New York with mashed potatoes. My husband swears it's the best chicken has had in a very long time. The Mac and cheese was flavorful but watery. My steak was perfect! My potatoes were a little loose but tasted great! Our salad was amazing!!! I'd get that every time! We ordered the affogato for dessert - took forever and came with hot water instead of espresso! I think the machine was not working. Waitress just took it away and was not apologetic at all or offered to replace it with anything. A little disappointing but a good experience overall. Pricy but worth it! Had dinner yesterday for party of 7. The food was delicious. Biggest issue is the service. We had a long table and the opening was at one end. One guest decided to sit at the end to be closer to the family. Our hostess seemed very unhappy voicing that she would have difficulty serving us with that seating arrangement. Not sure why she had to speak in that tone. The dislike was very apparent to all of us. She could have said that they could accommodate that seating arrangement but will have to be a bit more intrusive to us during the serving part. But No! That attitude didn't sit well with us. The service was good. Someone at our table ordered the tomahawk steak and they brought it out to make sure we wanted it as it's huge (30 oz) and warned us that it takes 45 min to prepare. I didn't try it but it looked delicious. I got the wagyu stroganoff. It was just ok. Couldn't really tell it was wagyu and tasted like regular beef to me. The noodles were ok and the sauce was good and the mushrooms salty. But it was good. The wagyu rigatoni was about the same. Couldn't tell it was wagyu and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The onion rings were excellent. Not heavily breaded or oily and delicious. The artichoke was also ok. Wish it had more flesh to it but that sauce was great. The east side sour was good but didn't taste like much alcohol was in it. The margarita was much better. The Frito misto (calamari) was great. Loved the sauce and the peppers in it. read more

We had come here last spring and loved our meals! We said we would for sure be back. Today, We traveled in just to come to this spot and order the cheeseburger. However this time wasn't as good. We were expecting same great service and the incredible cheeseburger with some sort of gravy sauce around it. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy on the patio, I noticed four open tables. We were sat in 5 minutes; 2 people 2 dogs. Waiter was around but not friendly. He took our order and drink order. First round of drinks came out 10 minutes and the next round we waited 15 minutes. The bar tender seemed backed up. We noticed our beloved cheeseburger was not on the menu anymore so we went with the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the pastrami melt sandwich. We also got the artichoke and side of fries. My chicken sandwich was good but nothing special. Fries were perfect, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a good amount of seasoning. The artichokes were bizarre, there was a cheese and watery sauce in the middle of the halved artichoke, which made it hard to eat and was overpowering; we would've preferred a simply grilled artichoke. Boyfriend finished his pastrami sandwich and was still hungry; so ordered the burger. Disappointed in the size of the burger/ sandwich and the artichokes were strange. Don't bother ordering sandwiches if your hungry. Maybe go with a breakfast meal or steak. Also, I ordered a sauce on the side and charged us $4!! Such amazing vibes in this place! Our server Chelsea was so amazing she really made our anniversary feel so special!! We came in very hungry and very excited to try everything!! The oysters were so fresh and the mignonette was great! The tuna crispy rice was so perfectly crispy! The tuna crudo was so fresh and the ponzu paired so well with it. The bone marrow was probably our favorite appetizer, it's very rare a restaurant has it and it was cooked so perfectly, served w crispy bread and a meat jam which was so yummy!! The scallops we paired with our steaks and they were cooked to perfection- seared beautifully! The filet and ribeye both melted in our mouths are were perfectly prepared. I ended the night with a few bites of the tirimisu which was such a great way to end our night!! Came here for breakfast and had the French toast and artichoke. French toast was absolutely to die for, I loved how they elevated a simple dish into what it currently is. Toast was easy to pull apart and clearly expertly cooked. Our server was very kind and attentive. One thing about this overall delightful experience that mystified me was the artichoke. I am a huge fan of artichokes and have had many artichokes! I have never had an artichoke with a dip and topping as flavorful as this one. Truly I wanted to drink up every little drop of whatever is in that dip!! It changed the game. A huge dichotomy was the way the artichoke itself was cooked. It was so hard to eat that you couldn't enjoy the beautifully crafted dip or toppings. All but the intermost leaves (maybe 2-3 leaves) were tough and you had to scrape them with your teeth to get any flavor out of them. Unfortunately ive had better cooked artichokes at dive bars. Given that they also specialize in meat here, I expected an elevated artichoke experience (perhaps grilled or charred etc) that would allow you to truly take in the flavor profile. If you're looking for a nice, romantic dinner, don't go here. Instead, I recommend "The Victor Restaurant and Bar," which is an amazing restaurant only 10 minutes away and open until 9pm. Coast Range has a limited, lackluster menu that is pricy but fails to impress the palate. Trying to piece together a decent meal from the "A la Carte" menu was pretty challenging. Other than "A La Carte," they only offered 4 entrees, which included two pasta dishes, a smoked half chicken, and a miso-glazed cod. We struggled to find a way to pair their entrees with the starters to make a complete meal that made sense in terms of nutritional balance and flavor profile. When we placed our order, the server told us that they were out of the Squash Soup. It would have been nice if they would have told us that earlier, but they didn't tell us anything about the menu period. (Note: the menu on Coast Range's website and on yelp photos are all currently outdated. Sorry, I didn't take photos of the menu). We ordered Potato Perogies ($23), Burrata Salad ($23), 7oz Filet Mignon ($58), and French Onion Soup ($18). The total after tax, a service fee, and a 20% tip was $160.74. Although I liked the Burrata Salad and the Filet Mignon, both were overpriced and ultimately failed to impress. The Potato Perogies and French Onion Soup were disappointing dishes. Overall, the food was boring, non-memorable, and overpriced. And as far as the service here; it was not awful, but it was not good. Why this place has a Michelin Star is a mystery. read more

We took our friends from Australia to this place last month and it was a nightmare. This place should not be part of the Michelin Guide because the service was so bad by one of the owners and I heard his name was Joey. Joey embarrassed my friend's partner name Tom in front of other diners. We know including him, that was so inappropriate because he couldn't even go to our table when Tom was around. Instead, Joey went to check our table when Tom was away and that means he knows he was rude and couldn't even apologize. This place should NOT be included in the Michelin Guide or even receive a Michelin star. We dined at many Michelin-star restaurants and what we normally expect besides the tastes, we look for exceptional service which this place was lacking. By the way, this is the 2nd times we have been here and if we had other choices, I would have not brought my friends from Australia to this place because the food is pricey, the taste is just average, lack of customer service, and lack of professionalism from the owner name Joey! FYI -- Joey, we drove 4 hours to Solvang, and for sure you know that a lot of people who visit Solvang are not from there, therefore you should at least be hospitable since you are in the restaurant business. By the way, Tom also owns his restaurant in Australia. Unlike you, Tom knows that his bread and butter comes from the customers/diners, that's why he doesn't treat his customers the way you did! The response to my review from the owner suggests that I did not eat at Coast Range. I absolutely did. I am attaching my credit card statement as proof. I dined with three other people (three of whom were Santa Ynez locals) recently about their experience and we all echoed that all 3 steaks we ordered were cold and we were not impressed with Coast Range. I asked them about the chocolate cake (which I may have mistakenly called a chocolate lava cake) and everyone remembered the stale chocolate cake. My wife and I's experience at Coast Range was pretty underwhelming, especially for a Michelin star restaurant. My wife ordered pasta (I forget the exact name), but unfortunately, she said she's had better pasta at places like Olive Garden. I ordered the filet mignon with a side of mac and cheese, and both dishes fell flat. The mashed potatoes were delicious, but that alone couldn't save the rest of the meal. The steak itself was bland, and I've had much better at other restaurants. The mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment--it used large pasta shells, and the cheese had a plasticky taste, almost like Velveeta or something microwaved. I only managed to eat a few bites before leaving it. I finished the steak out of necessity, but it wasn't enjoyable. The service was okay, somewhere between average and good--not bad, but not standout. Due to having our dog with us, we sat outside, which placed us right next to the bar. It was loud, with people cheering over sports games, and made it hard to enjoy a nice dinner. It felt like we were eating outside a bar, rather than at a high-end restaurant. The ambiance of Solvang itself is charming, and there was a friendly dog that roamed around, but overall, the experience was underwhelming. Well appointed, classy, fantastic drinks and food (and the super cool connected Vaquero Bar, where you're sure to meet friendly travelers and regulars). Have had dinner here a couple times as well as a lunch. Food has been unfailingly impeccable, as has the service. Super talented people in the kitchen. Clearly a good deal of care goes into the food here. The restaurant is also beautiful, so Coast Range is really hitting on all fronts. I don't think anything that I have tried here has disappointed me. The artichoke is particularly delicious. Eat five of them! You might have a heart attack (lots of butter), but you'll be happy until then. Get an artichoke. Get a chopped salad. Have a drink. We were looking for a place to relax have dinner and they were booked for dinner so we opted for sitting in the bar. Not a problem for us as we are 3 adult men. We sat at the bar and the bartender was helping other guests so we waited. When he was able to come over I asked "can we see a food menu", his response "yeah but I want to know what you are drinking" in a very rude dismissive tone. It was jarring on how rude he was, but played it off as they were busy. As soon as he took our drink orders he started talking to other guests and was really friendly. Still I dismissed it. When we were ready to order a very nice female bartender came and took our order (she was great!). Later after waiting awhile to get another drink noticed he was leaning on the bar watching the Rams game. He finally glanced over and I raised my hand to get his attention, he came over, and I ordered another. His response "huh"and turned away and made our drinks. I was still willing to give him the benefit of doubt, but then helped the couple next to us and was very nice to them. Not sure what his problem is but would not recommend this place unless they can hire people that can at least be somewhat respectful. Ironically this is what is posted behind the bar (photo). The atmosphere is very nice, but unfortunately we were a bit underwhelmed by the food. The $7 dinner rolls were probably the tastiest thing of the night for me. My filet was the least flavorful and one of the toughest I've had. My wife's was very tender but we both had to salt our streaks multiple times because they were simply bland. The sides we got were ok (cream corn and sautéed mushrooms), but weren't all that flavorful either. If the bill was $100, I would have walked away pretty satisfied, but it was well over $200 for the 2 of us (and I had water only, my wife had one glass of wine). I think my favorite was the beef tartare and the spicy tuna crisps, though. Usually a sucker for the appetizers. The only dish I was not tooo crazy about was the beef stragonauff because it was on the blander side--however that's usually how it is, unless thats your thing then def give it a try. I will say the beef was really tender and enjoyable overall. For drinks, would recommend the lychee or espresso martini-- both have good flavor, even with the strong alcohol taste lol. The dessert was pretty good, very soft and melts in your mouth. All this was split between 6 ppl--we were pretty satisfied and full, the overall cost wasn't too bad between us, either considering how much we ordered.
