Hmmmm? I had dinner here this evening and I was disappointed. Always when going to a Michelin star restaurant, there are expectations. I always try to keep these expectations in check. Tonight I was disappointed by the lack of attention to detail from the kitchen, which is an indicator that this restaurant has lost its edge and strong leadership in the kitchen maintaining consistent quality. Let me tell you about our evening... We ordered a bottle of wine. Good etiquette observed by our server Liz. Liz was friendly and welcoming. She provided excellent service. We ordered the tuna crudo and Parker Rolls as starters. Both were very well made. The Parker Rolls were warm pillowy with butter, chives, and light salt on the top. We were off to a very good start. For entrees we ordered steaks. My wife ordered a filet and I ordered the New York strip. My entire steak was lukewarm when it was served. It must have been fired too soon and was resting for 20-25 minutes. Our side of pomme puree was also lukewarm. The pad of butter they put on top to finish the potatoes remained unmelted. That is how cool the potatoes were. They had the correct Robuchon puree consistency, but they were just not hot. These are not attributes of a high performing kitchen nor the attention of an executive chef doing their job. Very disappointing. The final straw was their signature dessert of brioche donuts with brown butter glaze. While the batter and the glaze are genius, again the execution was flawed. The donuts were not cooked long enough and were 'doughy'. Ughhh! Even though they weren't cooked long enough, the donut batter and glaze were a delicious sweet and salty treat...kind of like eating a perfect chocolate chip cookie dough raw. A guilty pleasure you know you shouldn't eat. I would have probably given Coast Range 2 stars except the service from Liz was very good. Michelin star restaurants should not have such significant flaws with cooking. If I were an Owner, I would be evaluating my executive chef and brigade leadership in the kitchen. I probably won't be back to Coast Range on future visits and will try other options in the area. read more

I made a reservation for my partner's birthday a few weeks in advance. Overall, we were a bit disappointed in Coast Range. I'll start with some highlights. The cocktails were amazing ! I got the Cranberry Spritz and my partner got the zero-proof Mint to Be (Sober). Both were extremely tasty and fruity! The crust on my filet mignon was excellent, and the pomme purée was delicious. We had an issue with the brussels sprouts being too charred, but they fixed it with the new order. The house rolls are tasty, but not worth $10 imo since they're tiny and we only got two in our order. Some of my biggest cons had to do with overall ambiance. The outdoor seating is decently warm in December due to heat lamps, but it's so cramped and hard to relax. The finer details- the chairs, plateware, silverware- are not what I expected from a Michelin recommend steakhouse of this price point. The presentation of the food is extremely subpar. A $75 steak is just plopped on a plain white plate with a sad salad and roasted pepper. The salad is comprised of a microgreen in a vinagrette, I would have appreciated more effort into it, such as additional greens variety, other veggies, cheese, nuts, or fruits. In my reservation, I had detailed it was my partner's birthday. I never expect anything included for a birthday, but the table next to us received a complementary birthday dessert while we only got the check. I found it a bit strange! Overall it wasn't a terrible dining experience, but sadly I couldn't recommend it to anyone else in good faith after paying $250+ for 2 people. read more

Amazing food and service! We were driving from SF and were running 20 min behind, contacted them through OpenTable and got a quick response that they could move our reservation out (given that we could give the table back within a time limit). Granted it was the peak Christmas weekend so we were so appreciative of the accommodation. And most of all the food did not disappoint! If we are to go again we'll try every single appetizers and skip the mains because they are just that good! read more

Had their special for restaurant week. It was amazing! The portions were very generous and tasted delicious! Our waitress, Liz , impressed us with her professionalism and kindness! If you haven't tried their Restaurant week special you're missing out! We will be back soon. Thank you!! read more

I agree with many other reviews that this restaurant is not Michelin star worthy, nor worth a stop in Solvang. We came at 2pm after typical peak lunch hour and it wasn't very crowded at all. We were sat in 15 minutes and we already noticed the waiters and an older lady that looked like the manager had no interest in being polite or greeting guests in a prompt manner. Overall, I didn't feel respected or appreciate coming here with my business. There was a variety of families and people grabbing drinks. We got 1/4 ribs and a caesar salad for a medium sized lunch. Ribs looked like they came from a fast food chain, however they were very tender. Interesting sauce. Caesar salad was great! Only thing I loved was meeting Gus, the restaurant dog. He is so lovely and friendly but left outside without food or water on a hot day with such a short leash...I wish they'd take care of him! read more

Fantastic experience, the service was outstanding and every dish was great. Flavors were unique and steak was prime. Beautiful decor.

Fantastic food and amazing service in a cozy western-style setting. Delicious scallops, pirogies and halibut with corn cream. The staff sent my husband and I complementary champagne for our anniversary. read more

Came to get breakfast with the wife yesterday. Everything was amazing from food to service. I really enjoyed that they have a steak frites option that early. Steak was juicy and tender. Wife had the waffles which we're delicious, not too sweet either. We will be back soon read more

Everything that we had today at Coast Range was extraordinary! Chelsea was our server and she did a fantastic job and was knowledgeable about the menu. Her assistant was a great help as well although we didn't catch his name unfortunately: We started off with the Parker Rolls which were so soft and flavorful. The Caesar salad was one of the best we had ever had and had some pepitas in it for a little bit of a twist. The pierogis were excellent and had a great texture and flavor with the peach butter and sour cream emulsion. For our main me and my girl shared the 20oz Ribeye which was cooked to a perfect medium, it was super flavorful and had a good amount of fat which is our favorite. The baked potato was perfectly soft and melted in your mouth, and the jalapeño creamed corn was a perfect side to compliment the ribeye. For dessert we decided on the brioche donuts which were my favorite part of the meal! My girl got a complimentary birthday donut which was a nice surprise as well. Thank you Coast Range for providing such an amazing meal and ambiance. Oh and if you're lucky , Gus will come visit you and sit on your foot. read more

First, a shout-out to everyone who served us tonight: --Perla never let our water glasses get below half-full. --Abraham bussed our dirty dishes, expertly brought us new ones, and wiped off our table quickly between courses. He takes pride in his work. --Logan took our orders, answered our questions, and was very pleasant to us two ladies. Now the food. The two of us shared the artichoke, blackened scallops, grilled bone marrow with onion jam, grilled asparagus, NZ lamb chops with a 6 oz lobster tail...and we still had room to share dessert--butterscotch budino and brioche with a brown butter glaze (a bit salty, but we finished it completely). The portions were just right. Food is cooked perfectly, especially the seafood. The lamb chops are so good you will want to pick them up in your fingers and gnaw the bones to get every last bit of goodness. The ambiance: We were told the owners spent two years renovating this restaurant themselves. Well done! We especially loved the tin ceiling. I am already planning another visit. Thank you all! read more

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Zero smiles, zero being friendly, if zero stars was an option I would give it to them. For an establishment that is allegedly Michelin star rated numerous years in a row I expected so much better. I expected Michelin star level service not service that I would get from my local KFC. I'm not getting anyone we encountered from the staff was rude and un courteous and unwilling to do anything more than what they were doing. I hope management sees this and takes it seriously I get you're busy but negative word-of-mouth goes further than positive word-of-mouth. read more

I recently revisited Coast, but sadly the experience was NOT the same. The staff seem lost, the food was not as good and the food took a while to come out. It's just not run the same. There are other restaurants in the area that we tried that are better and the price of food is less and the service is more organized. There seems to be new management at Coast and they seem to not know how to run a restaurant. read more

If you're looking for some solid oysters, baked potato, and mac & cheese then this is your spot. Do not recommend the iced tea. It tastes like it was made in a molcajete. Short and sweet... Just off the courtyard in front of Coast Range you'll find The Vaquero Bar. Walk in. Sit down. Order any cocktail, fine tequila or IPA. They got it. Meanwhile, there's a Michelin-rated top chef in Coast Range's kitchen. And that chef is cooking up some wicked-cool food. Food that you can order while sitting at the bar. Order this and share everything: (you can thank me later) STEAK TARTARE MAC 'N CHEESE GRILLED ASPARAGUS "FRENCH FRIES" (huge crispy blocks of potato that is out of this world) Those four major food groups right there might encompass the very best things you'll eat. Great place to eat if you're not in a big group and have hours to wait (don't ask how long, they're not in the business of giving patrons quotes on when they might actually get to sit down for a meal- that's an LA thing). Is your reservation at 8? Great! Be read to eat by 9:30pm. Two stars because the food (once you sit) was good. read more

I absolutely loved this place! There is casual seating available outside on the patio and the dining area inside is gorgeous, perfect dinner vibes. They also have a bar if you just want to grab a drink. Another huge perk is they are not only dog friendly, they are dog lovers! Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating to me and my dog Charli. The food here was amazing, from start to finish, I enjoyed every dish. This chef is talented and understands how to create a menu that would make anyone happy. To start, we enjoyed the crab cake, it was topped by a homemade shrimp chip that elevated the dish to another level. Next was the tuna on crispy rice, another mouth watering dish prepared with a homemade sauce that was tangy, savory and sweet, it was perfectly balanced. For my entree I ordered the tuna lion and it also is accompanied by a homemade sauce that was so good, I seriously could have poured it on everything. The tuna was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. They also have a wonderfully cultivated wine list that would pair beautifully with any dish you order. This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in years. read more

Everything about this restaurant checked all the boxes for us! Food- incredible. Atmosphere- cozy, romantic. Service- great. Wine list- impressive. Definitely on the pricier side but what I will say is you get what you pay for. Dishes are big and filling unlike many other fine dining establishments. Loved the booth setting. We were so comfortable the whole time. We ordered the grilled artichoke, French onion soup, Cobb salad, two different steaks, and a side of mashed potatoes. We were so full leaving but with the happiest bellies. French onion soup was the best we've ever had. Artichoke was delicious and Cobb salad was solid. Steaks were cooked perfectly and had such a delicious char. Only complaint is the mashed potatoes were super runny. Would definitely come back! read more

Fantastic service & food! Pricey but a nice experience. I ordered the filet mignon. It was tender and served with their own house-made steak sauce which was tangy & sweet. Everything here is a la carte. I ordered the house chopped salad, it was big enough to split with my friend and the dressing was a home-made blue cheese, so good! The pierogis were served with apple butter, which was kind of unusual. It was a good twist. The baked potato was good and served with all the fixings. Our waitress was friendly and our water glasses were kept full. There was the cutest basset hound at the entrance that got our attention. When we left he had a coat on. Hope he is well taken care of and not just chained up there all day and night long. He was lethargic, so I imagine he is an old boy. read more

Hands down the most amazing brunch, atmosphere and service in the area! We make it a point to eat at Coast Range every time we visit Solvang/ Santa Ynez.... it's that good! On this trip we ordered the Breakfast Crunch Wrap (filled to the brim with juicy steak and topped off with/the most flavorful fluffy eggs), the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and the Bagel & Lox. Everything was fresh, flavorful and served with a smile by the sweetest staff! On previous visits we've had, dare I say - the best Ribeye steak I've ever had! The Vaquero bar on the other side of the shared patio is a blast! Great music, strong drinks and the most 'high energy' vibes for a night out! (Pro Tip: the Espresso Martini is to die for ) Highly recommend and can't wait to come back on our next trip here! read more

I have to make it clear that 3 stars is good not great. Service was good. Seated quickly and given water right away. Drink orders came out fast and they took our order in a timely fashion. It was dead when we went for lunch but the food I'd say came out in a good time, slightly longer but not by much. Once we got our food, we got followed up on frequently and always had water. No issue with service, I'd give it a 4. The ambience is good, booths are good size and the place has a good feel. Steak tartare- this is the biggest reason why I gave this place a 3. Presentation was ok but I have to say, what does that smear and drops look like? Outside of that I must say I didn't get much flavor out of whatever it was. The meat could've been cut a little better, there was zero acid and genuinely only tasted the onion and/or garlic. Based on that experience, I could not recommend this. Luckily the oysters came with a lemon otherwise I likely leave this dish alone. Oysters- fresh, big and the sauces were pretty good. No issues with the oysters, really enjoyed them, a solid 4. I did have a cup of coffee as well and that was fine. My overall rating comes down to the pricing to quality, just didn't quite match up. I do have to mention that my wife's first crudo bite had either a bone, seeds or some other hard piece of food. It was the only piece but really hard off the first bite. read more

This is an excellent choice if you aren't in the mood for Scandanavian dishes while visiting Solvang. It was midday on a weekday and after a couple hours of visiting shops we were bordering on hangry and decided to try this place. The interior has a fancy, retro style vibe which I found very cool. We sat in a booth and I ordered eggs benedict from the brunch menu. Our waitress, while not exactly Miss Sparkles & Charm, was very efficient. The eggs benedict was incredible. The eggs were done perfectly and the hollandaise sauce - a tomato hollandaise - had a different taste than the usual but I found it to be superior. The menu claimed this dish had a "house ham" but to me it looked & tasted like a thin slice of beef - a delicious piece of meat regardless. Prices were on the high side but this is expected in a touristy town. read more

I was completely underwhelmed by the food. Looking at the Yelp reviews and knowing they've had a Michelin star for two years, I had high hopes. I guess I should've paid closer attention cause their last star is from 2023. We got the onion soup, bone marrow, grilled artichoke, and wagyu stroganoff. The taste absolutely did not match the price tag. The meat in the stroganoff was a bit tough and on the dryer side. The jam for the bone marrow had no mention of bacon on the menu and I didn't realize I ate pork until I had already eaten some (I don't eat pork). The meal overall was meh. read more

Ambiance is upscale horse country with a tin ceiling, very nice. Indoor and outdoor seating (with heaters). I've come here about 4 or 5 times. The Salmon is what keeps me coming back. And today the side of brussel sprouts was my dessert. They were especially good. Service is pleasant and professional. Fantastic service! Welcomed from the moment we checked into the hostess desk through our last bite. I would return and recommend 100%!!

Pros - nice ambiance - stroganoff was the best thing we had, beef was tender, good sauce, and pasta was cooked perfectly - French onion soup was solid, a lil on the sweeter side Cons - overpriced - ordered the New York on the server's rec, supposed to be on the fatty side and not chewy but wasn't the case, cooked unevenly and to the wrong temp, mostly medium, salad was wilted - rolls were very average read more
