This place is money. You get quality food with so much flavor and a nice atmosphere. It's evident that they put so much energy into producing high quality dishes. I tried the pork belly, cauliflower, and soft shell crab buns. They were all ridiculously delicious. I also tried the chicken fried rice and it had a great flavor. The XO noodles were on point as well. It's my favorite spot in AZ by far! read more

I have been to this place many times and it never disappoints. I've been here for brunch and dinner and everything I have tried is always amazing. I will say that the food is great but the cocktails are the star of the restaurant. They make the best cocktails by far in Gilbert and they pour heavy! Service sometimes is hit or miss but worth the wait and won't stop me from coming back. read more

Went with my fiancé on a Sunday and the cocktails were great and so were the staff! The cauliflower steamed bun was really good and so was the XO noodles. Definitely wanna come back as soon as we can. Thanks read more

Menu does not adequately describe the dishes. Dishes are ok, not over the top. Portion are smaller than most "small plate" dishes. Service is fantastic! If getting a reservation and want outside, make sure to request it. Music is loud! Can hear every tables conversation next to you as they yell over the music. read more

Clever Koi - Menu does not adequately describe the dishes. - Asian Fusion Near Me - Gilbert, Arizona

This place is absolutely incredible! Everything on the menu is delicious as well as the drinks. They have amazing deals which is a trait that will win customers over. I'm always craving clever koi. I will say the restaurant is small and a little crammed, that's the only negative. 10/10 would recommend checking this place out though! read more

The clever koi is hands down my favorite restaurant of all time. Their cocktail lineup is bananas. Definitely try the kimchi fried rice with Duck read more

My ramen was absolutely delicious. I had to go takeout due to my other plans so have not had a chance to spend time in the restaurant but if I lived closer I could see myself visiting every other month. Ramen is my jam and have been to some of the best in the valley. This place is at the top! read more

Let us start with this... Is Clever Koi more expensive than the average Gilbert Restaurant? Yes Does it suck having to drive through DT Gilbert traffic to get here? Yes, But is it worth the money and hassle? YES Please go here and eat some tuna chips and a pork belly steam bun. It's delish and don't forget to buy a bottle of their hot sauce. I love ramen and this place is close to home, so have it a shot. First, steamed buns were awesome!! Tropical black tea was great. Green tea was just green colored water. I ordered the pork ramen and my bf ordered the vegetarian ramen. It came out and pretty instantly we knew it was going to be sub par. The noodles tasted like they were opening up ramen packs in the back. The broth was very generic and tasted like it was dumped from a can 10 minutes earlier. The egg had no flavor. His vegetation broth had a burnt plastic taste to it. $60 later and we left pretty unhappy. The ambiance, the service and the cleanliness was on point. But won't be returning. We'll keep going to Tampopo Ramen in Tempe. read more

Love this place! The food and specialty cocktails are awesome here! Always a must stop when in downtown Gilbert!

I love the Vegetable Ramen here! That is all I order. Even I ordered without any salt (due to my self-imposed diet restriction), the bowl of soup is still perfect and full of rich umami taste! If I want to go crazy & ignore my diet restriction, the Crispy Pineapple Duck is what I dream about. read more

Steamed Buns here are so, so GOOD! But this place is over priced beyond belief. The vibe is pretty cool. But after eating a steamed bun, and a bowl of pork ramen spending a total of $35 +tip. I wouldn't like to feel hungry anymore. (Just Saying) read more

Love this place! The soft shell crab steamed bun & the spicy seafood hot pot are my fav! They are also very accommodating if you don't want something certain in the dish. The steamed buns are a must try! I love the spicy seafood hot pot but I do warn that it is VERY spicy. So if you don't like spicy or can't handle it, I don't suggest that dish. Sometimes we order a side of rice just to try to balance the spice but overall we love it! read more

love the food its amazing, my kids had great options that they loved. My family will be coming back for more amazing ramon. read more

If I could rate Clever Koi a 6 out of 5 I would, simply a phenomenal restaurant with a fantastic staff. The atmosphere is outstanding, the service crew is top-notch and the amazing people who create culinary masterpieces are freeking awesome! It was really cool to see one of the experienced chefs coaching and giving positive, reassuring feedback to the new guy who was manning the wood fire grill. The crew got along like a family that actually like each other, that made quite a positive impression on me. Now to the food, the incredible food. I started with ice cold water and a tasty pilsner draft while my tow buns were being prepared. One was a perfectly cooked soft shell crab with a touch of cabbage and a tangy sauce drizzled over it. The second was a sensational pork belly with a sweet sauce adorning the crispy outside, soft, chewy inside of the pork belly. Both were nestled inside of a pillowy soft "bun". I knew I was in for a treat with just that scrumptious appetizer. My entree was the pork ramen...don't let the simple name fool you. This bowl of lusciousness was simply the best ramen I've had anywhere...including the five years I spent in Okinawa, Japan. The complex, meaty tasting broth was perfectly balanced. Submerged in this brown goodness were perfectly cooked noodles, some kimchi (sounds odd, but it added yet another layer of flavor with its slightly sour note, add some crunchy bamboo shoots, a soft boiled egg, cut in half, and four pieces of that outstanding pork belly. All I can say is OMG! I was given a piece of one of the most amazing desserts I've ever had. It was their take on a pineapple upside down cake. A hot, moist cake that included cardamom in the mix. The sauce was a caramel type sauce with a splash of coconut water, topped with some crispy strings and basil - the basil added a great earthiness to the dessert. I gave credit where it was due and let James, the chef who prepared this bowl of goodness, know my feelings of this outstanding meal. I truly appreciated their attention to detail and care they put in the dishes they served. Thank you CK crew, you are truly outstanding! read more

Crazy good food with a diverse menu. Clever Koi is a must try! Delicious food, friendly staff and great bar menu.

Came in on a Sunday night for dinner. We were greeting warmly and we asked if we can be seated outside. The service was awesome, the kids menu was great, and the patio area was very clean. I ordered the ramen which was delicious I would definitely get it again. My boyfriend got the duck which I tried for the first time and it was really good. Thank you clever koi we will be back to enjoy more food. read more

If you are out on a Saturday night looking for a table in the downtown Gilbert area - don't forget Clever Koi - it's not on Gilbert - it's tucked back a bit but the service is great and the food is great too. This was a really good experience. Wanted a new experience trying a pork steamed bun because each time I've had it I have not liked it. Really glad that I tried it today they do a phenomenal job! The ramen was also amazing. The broth in kimchi really took the cake! CJ was our server and he was great. He was very attentive and yet allowed us to enjoy our meal without being interrupted that's something that's really important to me when eating out. Definitely going to come back here. read more

I am not much into this cuisine, but a few friends invited us out. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. We got a sandwich and a Raman bowl. All four of us really enjoyed our dishes. If your looking for something different definitely give this place a try. read more

This is a Neo Asian restaurant that brings great ideas for displaying their versions of items like Ban Mi and their soups are great!

Went for dinner last night. Started with the calamari. Very good and tasted fresh. I had the duck leg over crispy rice. Very well done. I was disappointed the meat was still on the bone, but it came off so easily it wasn't a problem at all. Wife had the red curry duck with udon noodles. She really liked it. Overall, a good experience and will be going back. It was great to be able to eat on the patio. read more

I was pleasantly surprised as I am a regular for downtown Gilbert restaurants but have yet to explore the off street spots such as this. We did not have a reservation but were quickly seated and helped. The decor is quirky and modern and the bar had an assortment of lamps and books to make one feel like you were eating an upscale meal in your own home. The drink selection is modern and creative, which makes sense considering the massive size of the bar. The food, having gotten the pork ramen, was absolutely gorgeous and decadent. I finished it in it's entirety and will definitely be making many more appearances to this excellent restaurant. read more

This is my second visit here. First visit was excellent but this visit is underwhelming to say the least. We were seated right away which I appreciated since we did not have reservations and it's a busy Friday night. It took about 20 minutes for a soft drink to be served to our table. An additional 15 minutes after that for our orders to be taken. We asked for our appetizer (steam buns) and entrees to be served at the same time since we've already been waiting for over 35 minutes without food and need to get on with our evening. After we said this, our waitresses immediately says "I'll have your steam buns out first." I'm a little confused. A server came by our table a few minutes later and set down a plate of food which was not ours. The rest of the evening was under whelming. Long waits, food that tasted a little off, and lack of attention from our server made this visit our last. read more

Clever Koi is a one and done type of restaurant. It's not that it was horrible but it wasn't great either. The ramen broth was very salty and we ended up not even eating it. However, if you find yourself here definitely try the tuna chips they were delicious and the bahn mi sandwich was tasty as well! Our waitress was very nice if a little overwhelmed. The ambiance is nice and modern. The food is overpriced which was a downer considering that there are other ramen places that nail it and are half the price. read more

Best ramen around, best katsu around. Everything here is amazing! Honestly probably the best restaurant on the Gilbert strip

Flavors are amazing, food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun yet relaxing. The drinks are well crafted and the service is friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend. Would suggest making reservations. read more

My wife and I favorite spot. Food is always good, a little pricey for what you get so I can see what some people don't like that. But did us ifs worth the service and the quality of the food. BBQ ribs are amazing, pork belly, and ramen are all top notch. Honestly anything you get is sold. Only thing I would stay Way from is the chicken, super dry when adding it to any dish! read more

Clever Koi is one of our favorite restaurants. Joshua's Scorpion cocktail is so delicious, refreshing and served out of a beautiful ceramic bowl, with a lit sugar cube in the middle and two long straws! Joshua has won national awards for his creativity, flavor and ingredients. We enjoy talking with him about everything related to cocktails. He is gracious of spirit, knowledgeable and interesting. I've upped my cocktail game at home thanks to him. For an appetizer, we shared the soft shell crab steamed buns (husband's favorite) and the Pig Face (braised pork cheek with Kimchi expertly prepared) and Mushroom dumplings (explosion of flavor). Yummy noises around the table. One of my favorites is the Pork Belly Ramen with the most delicious, flavorful broth that takes 24-hours to prepare. The broth is the base of Ramen and makes or breaks the dish. It comes with generous thick slices of pork belly, carnitas, Kimchi, a Sous Vide egg and homemade noodles prepared to perfection! The wait staff offers attentive care without being intrusive. Each person is very knowledgeable about the menu. I appreciate such expert service that matches the cocktails and food. read more

I understand it's Asian fusion restaurant. I tried their special which was the Korean fried chicken. It was no where similar or even close to the original Korean fried chicken taste. I also ordered the Black fried rice. It was very odd tasting and very bland. read more

I've had Ramen in several different cities and restaurants and the Clever Koi has one of the most flavorful renditions of the Japanese staple. The crispy Chicharrones like pork belly puts a unique southwestern spin while the spicy kimchi which replaces the traditional bamboo shoots adds a twist on a dish that is already packed with tons of flavor with its pork bone broth. Just solid. read more

Love this place for a date night or if you just want some ramen in Gilbert! My go to is the pork ramen but I have liked everything on the menu I have tried. I recently tried the Arizona ramen (vegetarian option) and although I prefer the pork it was still pretty good. The steamed buns are also delicious. Love the selection of speciality cocktails as well! read more

Very disappointing! Way too loud! We left even before we sat down. Would've had to yell to speak to people in my party. Sad.
