The burrito that I order was veggie burrito with chicken. I found chicken and bland rice inside the tortilla, but where are the veggies in this veggie burrito? This is the risk of dining at a place that is too convenient for most of the hotel guests to go any other place that is worth the extra 5 minutes of walking. Cozying up to downtown with french windows and its pub like atmosphere, Clery's happened to be one of the watering holes for a couple of us at a local conference. On what seemed like a typical Friday night, we waltzed in around 8ish seeking a table, drinks and some food. We were seated immediately and plied with local booze with much swiftness. I had the chicken sammy, a fried chicken sandwich served with fries. It was ok, pub food, fried yet luke warm, neither tender nor tough, sustaining but not satisfying. Our table had fish tacos, lobster rolls and couple of pints. The food is pricey, but it goes with the neighborhood I guess. The service was great, the ambiance degraded over the night into a swarm of indistinguishable noise as the windows were closed and younger night people ushered in. No less nor no more than you would expect when you step in here. Nights they have a bouncer up front and a late night pub vibe, so expect the usual, plastic cups and all. read more

Yikes! Had an pretty insane experience here after years of coming without any drama. This was around 6:00PM. Walked in, ordered two drinks, then the bartender walked away without charging me. I waited several minutes trying to get his attention before eventually giving up. I was talking to my friends within arms reach of the bar when I was hailed by the bartender. I readily paid for my drinks, and apologized, but he told me "never walk away from me again, kid." I was then charged for three drinks instead of two. We did get some food as well. --Service was below average as the waitress was eating and talking to her friends rather than attending up on a timely basis.-- 1. As someone who worked in the service industry, I NEVER write bad reviews. I went with my boyfriend for trivia. We arrived nearly an hour early and I asked the hostess if they were still doing trivia. She said yes. The room behind us was completely empty - maybe one or two tables filled- and when she sat us at a table across from the loud very busy bar I asked if this was the area for trivia. She said yes. It took 16 minutes for a waitress to get to us. We couldn't talk because it was too loud, I didn't think much of this because I understood we were at a bar. We figured we were in the right area and it would quiet down at 7pm. Trivia starts and the host was in the then empty, and still very quiet but now full room I saw when we came in. We couldn't hear a single question. I asked the hostess if we could move and she shrugged and said no it was full. If my food hadn't come out then I would have just left. It was also impossible to find our waitress at any given time. I'd also add the hostess was handling food and drinks while wearing an oversized hoodie and carrying things with her sleeves that were too long. Doesn't seem clean. You know what, we were heading over to the Amtrak from BMC and looking for a place to eat that was close enough to the station that we could just run down the block. We went there for brunch this past weekend and loved the food we got! There's something for everyone; Nutella donuts and cookies and cream waffle for a "sweet" brunch lover and egg dishes and breakfast sandwiches for the saltier fan. The service was quick and we got to sit near the windows, which were open on a beautiful day. It's right near both Back Bay and the South End, so it's easy to get to from many neighborhoods. This place is great for a group or just a date brunch. We definitely suggest any dish with their home fries, the cookies and cream waffles, and you can't leave without getting their Nutella Donuts which were cinnamon sugar dusted donuts, drizzled with Nutella and rainbow sprinkles. There are a few scathing reviews that would lead you to believe otherwise, but if you put aside the fact that you got puked on/hit on/arrested, you might appreciate the large comfortable booths facing your own private TV from the army that surrounds the dining area. You'd notice the Bud bottles are only $3.50, and after a pop or nine, you may be inclined to partake in the $20.11 Football Special - a bucket of beer and two individual appetizers. For $20. And they have thick, heavily spiced Bloody Jerk that shows its sex proudly, swinging a fiercely phallic Slim Jim/olive garnish. Awesome, right? Not quite; the food is bad. And not Michael Jackson Bad, which is awesome, but bad-bad, which sucks when you're hungry. The nachos were cold and congealed, and when asked to have them replaced (by a very cordial server, by the way), the subsequent spinach-artichoke dip had the distinct tinny flavor and watery texture of being nuked with canned 'chokes. Had a bite of the buffalo chicken pizza, which wasted a perfectly good crust by weighing it down with way-too-much sauce, a minimal serving of the bird and uncooked carrots & celery. Of the smorgasbord of the apps opted for, only the plain chicken tenders (skip the artificially tangy honey mustard) and the pretzels (the cheese dip will sit heavy) proved palatable. I've been here twice now for a sit-down/drink and both times were pretty good! This place can get really crowded on Friday and Saturday nights (with lines stretching and wrapping around the building!) from what I can see, but if you come during the middle of the week, it's bustling yet comfortable. During my most recent visit, my friends and I ordered their truffle tots to snack on while catching up over drinks. They were crispy, perfectly fried, and generously drizzled with a spicy sauce alongside handfuls of red pepper flakes and scallions as garnish. It's not as spicy as it sounds- it's very flavorful! However, it was a little pricy for what we got. I'd definitely recommend their margaritas because they're sweet and not very strong and worth the price. They also offer interesting cocktails (I got the Being Basic cocktail and it was decent! I'm not a big fan of club soda, though, as I quickly found out) and a long beer menu. I mean, they do have three awkwardly distinct rooms (I like to pretend three Clery brothers were trying to decide what would be best, so they just did it all). The food was nothing special. I ordered a reuben sandwich and I really expected my socks to be knocked off. Nope. The french fries, however, weren't awful. Ah, Clerys. A place to go for "OK" food and generally pretty lousy service. I've been to Clerys a few times over the years (never for the nightlife, which seems to be its own beast...), but I'll focus on my most recent visit on a fairly quiet Tuesday evening. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese with truffle fries. The fries I got were definitely not truffle fries (and even as regular fries, they weren't particularly great). The sandwich was alright, but not worth the $16 price tag in my opinion. It was a bit too salty for my taste and I ended up taking off most of the meat. Past items I've ordered here have ranged from "mildly disappointing" to "kinda good." There were a number of issues with the service as well - the waitress we had was honestly pretty grouchy. One person in our party was brought the wrong drink order, and she seemed annoyed that he actually wanted to be brought the drink he ordered. She also disappeared about halfway through the night, leading to us having to flag down another waitress after about 30 minutes to go find her and bring us our check. Atmosphere in here is your typical Boston bar. Overall, Clerys is an option if you want someplace casual near Back Bay with a basic pub food menu and decent drink selection, but don't expect to be blown away (and cross your fingers that you have better luck with the service than what we had... which was pretty darn awful). read more

This looks like a great bar for nighttime drinking. We were day drinking and bar hopping so I could see the different neighborhoods in Boston, but I hear that this place goes off at night. I can see why. It's decently sized, has TVs that are visible from every angle of the place, and the food is a step above decent (way more than you can ask for at a pub).
