I came to The Beehive with a small group (3) and enjoyed my experience. Our server Ronald was phenomenal! He was able to advise on the menu with all of my allergies, was very kind and checked in on us enough to keep a pulse but not so much we felt rushed. I really enjoyed having him as a serve and hope to have him again soon. For the food, we ordered the whipped ricotta to start, and then split 3 mains: the lamb ragu, butternut squash risotto, and the mussels. The whipped ricotta was enough for 3, I think could be good for 4 people as a nice way to taste the flavors. The 3 entrees were good overall. The other two in my party said the risotto was their favorite, mine was the lamb ragu. The risotto was very fresh and light. I felt the balance between citrus and the savory flavor of the squash was very good. The ragu was yummy and I liked how acidic it was. It was a nice surprise and kept the dish light in my opinion. Also the gnocchi was perfect!!! Atmosphere wise, we were sat at the front in the inside. The space is very nice and despite being near the entrance, we didn't feel like chaos was happening. It was easy to have conversation and enjoy the evening. I didn't explore the rest of the restaurant but I would like to see the downstairs on my next visit

This place is very cute and unique. We came here for brunch. The food is good and the music was fun. The service is very nice. I 100% recommend having a reservation. The only negative is the tables are very small so we didn't have a lot of room. Better for a date a a few people, was cramped for our group of 5.

Great ambiance and music . Service is fast and people are friendly. menu is diverse. They did run out of items . Not designed to be a high end restaurant but if you're looking for a good music venue with quick bite then you will like it .

Had a delicious brunch here for Fathers Day! The live music was a great touch and the ambiance was very vibey and laid back. The food was also very good- got passion fruit mimosas, a chicken sandwich, and the yummiest coffee cake!! I tried everyone else's food as well and the brisket eggs Benedict were delicious.

Pro Tip: Go for the show, not for several drinks. No cover or reservation needed, but may be faced with a line to enter. Haven't been here for 10 years and, while we enjoyed the show and talent, the drinks were certainly not as they used to...instead, too pricey and too sweet or filled with ice. Enjoyable, if expectations are not high and, rather, enjoyed with the pleasant entertainment. I remember brunch was a good time back in 2014, but could not speak to quality today.

Truly nothing special here. The inside is very pretty I will say that. The service is just okay and the food was also just okay. The menu is short which I usually appreciate but it was hard finding something enticing on the menu so I went with the American breakfast. Phone didn't eat first, that's how you know presentation was just okay. The service is fast here so if you're in a hurry they're good. Toast came dry, sausage wasn't great, they cooked the eggs perfect and the potatoes were great. My friend didn't like her meal that much either.

My boyfriend and I came here for a drink and some live music and we were not disappointed. We already had dinner so can't speak to the food but the drinks were delicious. We had the BBM and the Transistor! The ambiance was so nice with the dimly lit environment and the acoustics really brought the live band and music to life. Tonight we saw Sunday blues with Bruce Bears & Friends. It was bluesy and jazz and it was amazing! Would def recommend this place if you're in the South End!

Came here for brunch! I was most impressed by the live music - the performers were actually good and went on for quite some time before a break. They also chose music/songs that were good for background without dominating the whole room so we could still hear each other. The food wasn't super outstanding (or maybe I just didn't order the right things for brunch) but the brisket eggs benedict was actually quite tasty and the fries that came with the fried chicken sandwich were perfectly crispy, crunchy, and salted. Definitely a good vibes place.

Omggggg! Now this place is a hidden gem!!!! We chanced not having reservations here and lucked out!! We arrived around 7:30, minutes before the music was to start and sat in the area. It was a great experience!! The musicians were amazing !!! We ordered the following food... *MUSSELS FRITES, LEMONGRASS, COCONUT MILK, LINGUICIA SAUSAGE, BREAD This was soooo tasty and plentiful!!! *DRY AGED BURGER, MALT ONION JAM, VERMONT CHEDDAR, AIOLI with BACON and truffle fries This burger was huge and yummy! * ROASTED CHICKEN, LEMON, GARLIC WHIPPED RED POTATOES, BROCCOLI This entree was on the healthy side but delicious. lol Overall, the entrees we ordered were great choices. We ended up leftovers to enjoy later. The music experience was AWESOME!! Our server Andrea was very kind and pleasant. We appreciate that. An amazing experience here!!! Look forward to dining here again and enjoying music!!!!!

This place has great vibes, and the musicians here are very talented. I would make a reservation for a table because it can be hard to get a seat or table space around the bar. The drinks here, particularly the Queen Bee was so good. It was sweet, tart and refreshing. We ended up getting some appetizers to split - the fried artichokes and the whipped ricotta. Some of the fried artichokes were a bit tough, but the dipping sauce made up for it. I loved the combination of the peach and tomatoes with the ricotta, but feel like the bread was a bit dry and could have been warmed up more. Overall, I would come back to enjoy the music and try out some of their entrees.

We went here for our anniversary and it was pretty good! They originally sat us at a table with a bad view but we asked to be moved and they put us right in front of the band! So that was fun it was loud but nice. The food was pretty good. We really enjoyed the white bean dip and arancini for apps. We also got the Brussels sprouts but tbh you could skip these, they were veryyy oily. For our entrees we got the bolognese which was delicious and the roasted chicken which I would honestly get something else last time. It was bland. But overall we had a great time and I would still return.

Ah, the rare 5 star review. That means I'd definitely go back and will still be thinking about it. In fact, it's rare for me to really remember each restaurant I go to, but this one is very memorable. What a cool, fun, interesting, tasty place! And certainly convenient, considering we went to the theater next door after. But if we weren't, we could have stayed to listen to the jazz combo playing, or get fun drinks. We had a group of 7 and they were still fast, accurate, and friendly. Love that. When I told friends I'd made reservations at The Beehive, they said, "Oh! That's our favorite place!" And I see why. First of all, I really appreciate a well marked menu for food allergies. Since I'm gluten free, it really makes my life easier. Although the layout of the menu is kinda silly and would be much better if it was a little easier to read. Great things like gluten free fried artichokes?!? I'm in! So good. I think everyone enjoyed their food. I will say, I got the chicken, which, as you can see from my photo, is HUGE, and was quite dry. So that was unfortunate. But I think I was the odd-man out.

    Ambiance!

I had such a fun time on my girls night at the Beehive! We made a dinner reservation and had a seat on the upper level with view of the stage/band. It was a bit obstructed but overall I felt like it was still a nice spot. We started with cocktails, which were good but not memorable. For an appetizer we ordered the ricotta crostini which was delicious, very creamy and sweet with the grilled peaches on top. For my main dish I ordered the cheeseburger and was very underwhelmed. I asked for it medium rare and it was well-done and just dry with not much flavor. I did upgrade to truffle fries which were pretty good. We ended with the passion fruit cheesecake which was the meal highlight for sure - it was FANTASTIC and I would recommend not skipping this dessert. Music was great and made it a super fun ambiance, it did take until about 10 pm for our performers to take stage but when they did it was stellar.

    Is this ok for kids?

It's kinda small inside and tables are close together. It's a cafeteria atmosphere. There were families with kids dining when we were there. I would say kids are not a problem.

The restaurant was pretty dead, so we were expecting a relaxed, smooth experience. The prosciutto and cheeses were great -- but let's be honest, it's hard to mess that up. My friend ordered a cheese and meat board and a steak, and I ordered the mushrooms and mussels. After two or three rounds of drinks, I realized my food still hadn't come out. I asked the bartender about it, and he said it could be out in five minutes. I told him that if it was already on the way, we'd take it -- but if it hadn't been put in yet, that was fine and we didn't want it anymore. His response was basically, "If you want it, it'll be out in five minutes." No explanation, no acknowledgment of what happened, and no apology. It felt more like "do you want it or not?" rather than any ownership of the situation. In the end, I never got my food, and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Not terrible, but definitely disappointing given how quiet it was. The food we did have was solid, but the lack of communication and basic apology knocked this down to two stars for me.

The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. We have been there twice, and I now will put my brief review. The take-home: if Boston, Raffles, and Amar think they deserve a star, they really need to up their game. I will get one thing out of the way very quickly: the food is spectacular and the wine service was excellent; these are not the reason for my comment. The simple truth folks is that a dining experience is not JUST about the food. It's about ambiance--which includes service and atmosphere, and that is where Amar just falls apart. It would be wrong to not recognize that the individual servers were quite nice and attentive. We had an 830 pm seating--hardly late in most cities, though one might suggest that in Boston that is on the later side (it really isn't folks). Regardless, by 1030-11 pm, the dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night. At that moment, a server came over to us to alert us the kitchen was closing--which was obviously them saying "get out"--but soon thereafter the smell of cleaning fluid filled the air, and we realized there was a person cleaning the tables--with a cleaning cart, complete with mops, brooms, and cleaning fluid in the middle of the dining room. While people were seated and eating. This is a restaurant with a pricey menu and wine list, and I cannot remember a time when dining in a fine restaurant when something like this EVER happened. We found it funny at first, but while trying to eat our dessert and drink our final cocktails the smell of ammonia really ruined the final experience. In the end, once served with the bill, it was not funny. The bill was around $1000 for 4 people including a nice bottle of wine. So: expensive, nice individual service, good food. But the lack of awareness about how diners paying for an expensive meal feel being rushed, and then the utterly ludicrous presence of a cleaning cart in the middle of the dining room while people were still eating (I posted a photo) makes Amar a laughable memory but nowhere I'd go back to.

Several months ago, I had a less-than satisfactory evening at Grill 23 that was significantly disappointing, both for myself and for several associates who I had invited to celebrate a win. There's no need to dwell on the details, as the goal here is to look through the big piece of glass (the windshield) rather than through the small one (the rearview mirror). Suffice to say that I had no intention of returning and made that clear in written communication. What happened next belongs in a Harvard Business School case study titled "Turning it Around with Excellence." Within relatively short order, I was contacted by Johan Mola, Grill 23's Assistant General Manager. What an impressive young man, one who has clearly benefited from a top-notch upbringing, high-quality professional development and wisdom that he has accumulated through his own intelligence. Johan's communication exuded sincerity and empathy. He was a great listener who never once cut me off. He singlehandedly transformed my frame of mind from one that was slammed shut, to one that was open to giving Grill 23 another chance. It happened that when he reached out, I was in Asia for a month. Over that month, Johan periodically checked in via WhatsApp, just to reassure me that he had no intention of letting the matter go. He was masterful, but it was his authenticity above all that made him so. Fast forward to last night, when I returned to Grill 23 with my wife, hopeful but still apprehensive; I needn't have been. Johan greeted us at the door, effortlessly made us feel at ease, and escorted us to our table. During the meal, he checked in several times, always in an easy, unobtrusive way that just said "I'm here for you guys, whatever it is that you may need." The waiter assigned to us (Garrett) was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for a better person to take care of us. His service was seamless without ever feeling excessive, more like a hospitable friend serving us an incredible dinner at his home. We were also visited by the Director of Operations, Gary Tummings. He made us feel valued and special, it was appreciated. All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable restaurant experiences we've ever had. Of course, the food must be mentioned, because it was flawless! We started with a dozen Cape Cod oysters, the Foie Gras and the Beet Salad, all impeccably presented and delicious. We then welcomed the restaurants two signature steaks, the Porterhouse and the Tomahawk. Both were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the flavor of each cut was nothing short of world class. The sides (carrots, asparagus and French fries) were all excellent as well, both in preparation and presentation. For dessert we had the coconut cake, which was mouthwatering, and a portion so generous that we had enough for seconds the next day. In short, the fare that we experienced last night was on another level...we absolutely will be back soon. I want to once again thank Assistant General Manager Johan Mola for everything he did to "right the ship" and to provide us with a truly memorable evening. All's well that ends well. Finally, I want to give a shoutout to Philip, the parking valet for the restaurant. We had talked prior and following the first experience and he immediately recognized me over two months later. What sets him apart is that he obviously cares deeply about the restaurant that he works for and the patrons who dine there. A really great, genuine human...I'm grateful for his concern, and my wife appreciated him keeping her dry under an umbrella on a raw and nasty night, all the way to our vehicle! Thank you to all, DC
