Friday night, made a reservation and sat right away. The place was packed and loud both upstairs and downstairs. Restrooms are downstairs. Tables are close to each other so you can hear conversations on both side whether you want to or not. Service was great, attentive and not intrusive. Food was good. Started with some appetizers. Waygu Dumplings, $22, were tasty but a bit crispy/dry. Shrimp Potstickers Tom Yum, $19, way to spicy for our taste. Grilled Pork Cheeks, $18, the meat was tough and chewy (supposed to be?). Outstanding, however, was PJ's Grilled Beef + Fried Rice, $35, well worth the price. Beverages were the Great North Vanilla Porter, $10, on draft. Nice selection of brews. As you as I walked in I was transported to beauty and peace ! The inside is classy yet chic and not necessarily one style. Very vintage and elegant with only one server , you'd think it would be rough but she was on point and efficient, my old fashion was to die for as was the raspberry crab ration dip. I had the veggie pad Thai! Highly recommend and plan on going back for much more and don't forget the bar downstairs, that I was not able to stay and enjoy but plan to! Frankly, I love this place. I visited twice, most recently for drinks. The downstairs bar area, where I sat, had a vocalist and a pianist, and the music provided pleasant background for the evening. The bartender was prompt and helpful, offering suggestions when we werent quite sure what to order. Fun concept! Spells with cocktails. Heal your woes. Clear your energy. The spell cards that come with your potions are a nice touch. The Harry Potteresque/witchy-magic vibe feels far from Boston. Recently came here with a friend without a reservation around 6pm before catching a show downtown. We were immediately seated at a small table in the bar area which was a bit cramped and loud. We enjoyed the mango and cucumber salad which was light and refreshing. The branzino with ginger and scallion was nicely cooked but quite expensive given the fish was on the smaller side. They also have a lounge downstairs with live music on certain nights which has great ambiance. Overall, would come here more for the vibes than the actual food. read more

Great tapas and surprisingly filling! Came in on a Sunday around 5pm and there was no wait which was great. Ended up ordering the mango cucumber salad and salmon belly tapas. The mango salad was amazing, the seasoning was perfect and honestly this could definitely have been shared with 2 people. The salmon belly tapas were even better. So tender and just the right amount of savory. They also have a wide selection of beers, but I wasnt drinking this time, so I'll have to check it out next time! They lean heavily into a magic/potions theme. The restaurant was decorated in a way that gave off an old-world Europe feel. It was especially refreshing with so many restaurants now built off the clean-minimalist aesthetic. The food and drinks for the most part were very good, especially the pad thai. The main reason this restaurant wasn't 5 stars imo was the price. The dishes were quite expensive and portions were not large. I feel like the driving factor for the price point is the downtown location (Park Street), and my preference is to pay for higher quality food rather than location. We had a reservation for the Piano lounge but had a rocky start as we were seated at the very back of the room in armchairs with a tiny low table in front of us. We made the reservation to eat dinner but this table was clearly going to be uncomfortable for any sort of meal, we'd have to hunch over to reach our plates. The rest of the piano lounge was normal style dinner tables and chairs, with the exception of our seats and another similarly short and small table with a set of 2ft ottoman stools around it. I mention this because if you were only coming for drinks or if this was offered a walk-in only option for those just wishing to lounge, this is a good add on! But this should not be the primary offering, coming with a reservation for dinner and being seated here with no warning is unacceptable. Luckily, we saw a regular table open up shortly after we sat down and asked if we could move and the server said yes! I really appreciated the flexibility and accommodation. Once at the table, our experience improved. We had two cocktails and ordered the Mongolian beef fettuccine and the chicken sandwich. Everything was good. I don't have a high tolerance for spice, so a couple of the dishes were a bit spicy to me, but it was fine for everyone else. Their cocktails were pretty and delicious. I enjoyed the silk seduction. Hostess first sat us as small table with two chairs next to each other which is weird to me so my friend and I moved to the bar instead. This spot is one of my go-to gems for when I'm trying to impress a group or when friends from out of town visit -- and everyone always loves it. Hobgoblin is a severely underrated spot in Boston, in my opinion. This is a Thai fusion place and no dishes are crazy out of the ordinary, but the presentation, the ambience, and the service combined make it a stellar overall experience. I would definitely recommend going on a weekend night and reserving a spot in the piano lounge. I've enjoyed every dish I've ever tried off the menu thus far (I've dined here maybe 6 times atp) and always enjoy the novelty of their "potion" cocktails. The one thing first timers need to try is the Lamb Shank Massaman and order a side of white rice. Another tip is that the sauce the spring rolls come with is fantastic, we ended up using it for our Chicken Karaage as well over the spicy mayo it came with. read more

Hobgoblin is one of those rare spots that nails both the aesthetic and the execution. We recently hosted 100 guests here for a private event. The flow was perfect. Our guests couldn't stop talking about the food, especially the Wagyu dumplings. The cocktail program is also super fun--very creative 'potion' themes that add a great twist to the night. It's a great restaurant that also happens to be a killer event space. Huge shoutout to Nick, the GM, who was our main point of contact; he made the logistics feel effortless. The entire team was fantastic and have us a great experience we'll remember. The Chef crushed it. This place is pretty cute. It's definitely unusual in terms of the interior. Hubs and I were hungry and this was a nice later evening dinner place. They had an extensive bar with some playful cocktails, including mocktails (for me). We started with SALMON TARTARE WITH SPICY LIME DRESSING and the TOM KHA CRISPY CHICKEN SPRING ROLL. Both were tasty, but I really liked the spring rolls best. I ordered the grilled shrimp phad thai which was flavorful. There was the right amount of sauce and noodles. Hubs ordered the grilled ribeye and it arrived looking so beautiful! Actually both our entrees looked really playful and tasty. He said it was good, unique in flavors with a kick of spicy. We were pretty full so we didn't get any dessert. Our server was so sweet! He was patient and very helpful giving us the rundown of the menu. We dined late so it was around our server's mealtime as well, but our server never skimped on service and making sure our glasses of water were full. He checked back frequently to see how our food was during each course and was so attentive. Definitely check out the bar and have a drink or two. Hot and Sour Crispy Fried Onion Ring - Fried breaded onion with toasted rice, chili powder and spices, mint - The onion ring was crispy and not oily. The hot and sour spices added another flavor since the onion was sweet. I don't know where I had taste this flavor before, it just taste familiar to me. Thai Crab Meat Fried Rice - Scallion, cilantro, ground white pepper, egg, crab jumbo lump - It was delicious but overpriced for the portion and lack of crab lump (only three pieces) Grilled Lemongrass Ribeye with Southeast Asian Spice - Lemongrass-marinated ribeye, black pepper, lime juice, chili powder, cilantro, toasted rice, crispy lemongrass, grilled vegetables - Beautifully presented with crispy lemongrass on top of the slice ribeye steak. I ordered medium rare but there are some area are medium. The lemongrass was not too strong or salty; it had a fragrance. Overall, the bill was around $160, including tips. The food was flavorful. Located in downtown Boston, a block from Boston Commons Park, the fun and unique vibe that felt a mix Harry Potter and Great Gatsby. Very beautiful decor, two snaps for interesting and thoughtfully designed, magically inspired cocktails and menu, it was definitely piquing to our attention. With an Asian-fusion menu and Goblin portraits flanking walls, dimly lit ornate chandeliers and velvet seating, we sat smiling at the amusing aesthetic. Food was quite tasty, we ordered a few plates, and cocktails equally striking. We went for cocktails one night and then four nights later went back for dinner, which was in the basement with another bar and they had a wonderful singer. It was a wonderful dining and social experience. If you're looking for something a little bit unusual, yet has good food and lots of eye candy, I think this would be a good choice. ~First Impressions~ At first it feels fancy, with a nice dark interior. We were seated downstairs because there was a piano performance/live music going on at the time. The pianist was nice and the drinks were pretty sweet. The servers were also nice and there were no complaints there. ~The Food~ I came with a group of eight and we ordered a couple of dishes, but the portion sizes were pretty small and the food itself was quite expensive. The presentation is great, but the tastes varied from either very salty to quite bland. Some of the fried dishes were quite mushy and chewy. The craft cocktails had fun names, but two orders of the same drink were not consistent. Some drinks being noticeably more sweet than others. The music and the vibes were great, but I was disappointed by the quality for cost of the food. ~The Logistics~ The location is in the middle of downtown. It's hard to find parking unless you park about a block away in one of the street parking areas around the Boston Commons. Went to the Hobgoblin Bar with my friend on a Friday night after a longgggg week. It turned out, Hobgoblin Bar was exactly what we needed! Hobgoblin Bar is located on 48 Temple Pl, Boston, MA, and it is fairly new. They have live piano performances in the basement, which is very cool. I didn't get a good look of the first floor, but the basement was definitely decorated with all kinds of goblin decorations that look like Dobby from Harry Potter. The restaurant was packed! But we made a reservation beforehand so we didn't have any issues getting a table. The food at Hobgoblin is Asian fusion and let me tell ya, everything is delicious! We started with the duck satay and the raspberry lobster rangoon dip. I really love how they put their own spin on the food. The duck satay literally melts in your mouth. Duck is a pretty fatty meat but the sauce that accompanies with the duck really balances the flavor. My favorite has got to be the friend chicken drunken noodles. It has sooo much flavor; perfect contrast between sweet and spicy. The cocktails are also very unique. Each cocktail is some sort of "potion" and brings you different things in your life. For example, I ordered the beckoning hand drink and it's supposed to bring me money and prosperity. I'd say overall my friend and I had a pretty awesome experience. I LOVED Hobgoblin! High-end Thai food, with small plates as well as regular meals. The vibe was sort of a speakeasy? Felt really fancy, a lot of fun. Comfortable seats. The service was genuinely above and beyond. We were there on a Saturday night with 8 people, and we never had to wait for drinks or food. The waiter was fabulous, and did a GREAT job making sure I knew there was a 20% tip already included on the bill - and I was happy to add another 10%! We sat a big table on the main floor, behind the hostess stand, and it was a great nook where we could all actually hear each other, even though it was a bustling Saturday night.
