Exceptional, Best-in-Class Experience with Cinnamon Energy Systems: I chose Cinnamon Energy Systems (CES) based on their weekly podcast The Energy Show, their excellent reputation, and my positive history with Barry Cinnamon 20 years ago when Akeena Solar installed my original system. Now transitioning from NEM 1.0 to NEM 3.0, it was time for a completely new solar and storage setup. CES has been an absolute pleasure to work with from the initial pre-proposal all the way to securing PG&E Permission to Operate (PTO). My journey began in September 2025 when I contacted CES and was connected with Michael Croft. Michael truly listened to my needs, assessed my current system and usage, and provided a tailored proposal. Because I was waiting on some unreleased products, I delayed pulling the trigger and intentionally bypassed the 30% federal credit for personal reasons. Throughout months of follow-up meetings, Michael checked in consistently with zero pressure. When I was ready to move forward, he conducted a detailed site visit and delivered the final proposal. Once contracted, the operational execution was flawless. Paula Hernandez coordinated the project, sending Jonathan Munoz for the preliminary design and site verification (PowerWalls, main breaker, roof layout). Jonathan was personable and explained the engineering details thoroughly. CES then coordinated seamlessly with my roofer, sending a team to cleanly remove my old solar equipment. Paula kept me informed every step of the way; the team was always on time, professional, and a pleasure to talk to. Their dedication to customer service is unmatched. When a PG&E installed the Tesla meter collar, there was no power after install, Paula was actually on a trip to Europe. Despite being abroad, she immediately answered my text, rescheduled the PG&E install, and sent Jonathan back out to perform detailed troubleshooting on the equipment to ensure a seamless setup. Later, Lucas came out to install the ground rod and went above and beyond by proactively updating the firmware on one of my Tesla PowerWalls so it would slave correctly after commissioning. The city inspection process really highlighted CES's professionalism. Our local inspector, Leonard, is notoriously thorough, tough, and fair. Even in the rain, the CES crew was fully prepared. They proactively removed one of the installed PowerWalls just so Leonard could verify the mounting screws were perfectly secured into the studs. It paid off--Leonard meticulously reviewed the roof and drawings Powerwall outputs, ultimately passing the system and noting that the crew did an excellent job. The final hurdle was PTO, which PG&E approved in an incredibly fast four working days. However, turning on the export feature in the Tesla App hit a snag. After hitting voicemail on the phone tree and getting standard "it takes three days to appear" advice from front office staff, I happened to run into Jonathan Munoz in the back office. Jonathan and Paula refused to accept the "wait three days" approach. They immediately accessed my account, updated the backend settings on their end, and had me open my Tesla app--the export feature appeared instantly. I recently worked with Cinnamon Energy Systems to install solar panels and a battery system at our home in Los Gatos. After getting quotes and speaking to over (5+) companies, Cinnamon was an easy choice. Early on I worked with Marcus (Director, Sales) and his team and they were extremely transparent and educational. Which is a huge plus, in a not very transparent industry:). Marcus in particular, was incredibly helpful in guiding us through many options, technically and commercially. Cinnamon ended up being well priced, with many solar and pricing options. We ended up getting a 24-panel Hyundai solar panel system paired with a Franklin battery - which for me was a better call as it's larger than a Tesla and works with my generator in the event of a long outage. The installation team was great as well, with the total install time only taking about 3 days. In fact, the entire team, including Paula in project management, Joanne in permitting, and the field crew--was professional, communicative, and easy to work with. They kept us updated every step of the way, from handling the engineering plans and local permits to managing the installation. I have been a customer for many years. For me one of the best things about this company is the support and follow-up. I've been very satisfied with them helping me optimize my set-up. Absolutely stellar process and service the entire way though. This was a more involved installation on a lightweight tile roof with multiple arrays. Split level home with some crawlspace work as well for the conduit. Did tiles break? Yes, of course, it was expected. Cinnamon made sure it all got fixed up properly afterwards. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to and working with everyone I interacted with through the process. Randy pointed me at the Hyundai panels, which actually made more sense than the RECs would have. Lucas helped verify that the layout would actually work. Paula coordinated everything superbly. Brian and Hector took good care of me as well. I got 6 separate estimates from local and national companies. Cinnamon Energy Systems was the second lowest, but they have also been around the longest and really know their stuff and they have been responsive all along the way. I started the process in September, made my decision in October and my install was completed in the first week of December. That was AWESOME. Everyone from the sales guy (Randy) to the scheduling staff (Joanne) to the electrician and install crew was fantastic, knowledgeable and skilled. Given the number of fly by night, shady and failed companies out there, it was really great to know that this LOCAL company is doing things right. For example, they don't just slap panels on your roof, they do it the right way with flashing, better rails, better components, and great skill. I'm pretty handy, but there is no way I could have managed the whole process through all the red-tape and paper work required by the city, and utility. Cinnamon did a great job for us replacing, expanding, and adding whole-house battery capability to our solar system. Jessica at Cinnamon did a fantastic job speccing out the project, walking us through how the new system would work, where we could expand our capacity and matching our system to our energy use. We decided to replace our roof at the same time, and Cinnamon worked seamlessly with the roofers. The installation was done quickly and as expected. We ran into a glitch with final County approval, due to some personnel changes at the County, and this necessitated some rework. Cinnamon (Jack, Mark, Paula, Joanne and Jessica) were straightforward, proactive and transparent about this issue and we addressed it effectively. Our system is up and running and we love seeing how we are not using PG&E basically at all (for electricity at least)! Daniel and his crew were very responsive right from the time I sought their services. We got mini splits and main panel upgrade. They did a good job with both. Recently I had an issue with one of the units and Daniel, Paula and Sylvia were quick to respond and get me on the schedule. We went with Cinnamon for a 12 panel system with Enphase micro inverters and two 5P batteries, and are very happy with the system and the support we've received from the company. They distinguish themselves from other solar installation companies by providing dependable follow through, reliable communication throughout the design and installation process, directly employing all workers, quality of installation, and by being a truly local company (based in Los Gatos). I highly recommend them to anyone considering solar in the Bay Area. The salesperson was professional, knowledgeable and helped us work through the options for our system. Of course, the sales people for ALL the solar companies are going to be super helpful because they want your business. One thing that Cinnamon did better than other companies during the sales cycle was to not pester us to death with calls and emails. Other companies continued to call repeatedly even after I informed them we had already signed on with Cinnamon. So irritating... Our Cinnamon rep stayed in touch but avoided being annoying. Also, unlike some other companies, Cinnamon didn't use any high-pressure tactics ("If you don't sign up by the end of this week, blah blah.") Where I believe Cinnamon really sets itself apart is how the company executes after the sale. If you've ever had a contractor that you had to keep calling, or who set expectations and then didn't follow through, you know how frustrating that can be. With Cinnamon, the communication and follow through was nearly spotless. There was one incident where the person coming out for our pre-design inspection was late and didn't call to inform us. But other than that, the company did everything they said they would do when they said they would do it (or earlier). Whenever we had questions, someone always responded promptly. They guided us through the permit process, inspection process, and getting our PG&E plan changed. At every stage of the project, our expectations were set and then met or exceeded. I am also very happy with the quality of the installation. The crew scheduled two days for the installation, but completed the job in one. The quality of the work appears to be very good. Everything was done to plan and all the components are laid out very neatly. Note that in the photos, Cinnamon offered to paint the conduit to match the house but we declined. One tip: if you don't want conduit visible on your roof, make sure that is part of the initial design (before you sign the contract) so the contractor can estimate the extra labor to hide the conduit as part of their work. Our house has old wiring, so we did experience problems with a few breakers tripping. It happened twice. This created some inconvenience because the problem occurred at night. For example, one breaker would trip immediately after we started our microwave oven. So that night, we had to heat our dinner in the oven. Inconvenient, but not the end of the world. But the electrician was able to resolve each incident the next day. Overall, the crew was professional and took pride in their work. And as I mentioned previously, everyone is a Cinnamon employee. I'm not saying all subcontractors are bad; I'm sure many do excellent work. But for us, having subcontractors in the mix introduces possible quality and reliability concerns, so we liked that all the work was done "in house." Since the installation, the system has been running reliably and we are delighted with it. I enjoy using the Enphase app to monitor the energy production and storage. I especially like the micro inverters so that I can see how much energy is produced by each panel, and because if one of the micro inverters fails, the remaining panels will continue to function. Again, we are very glad what we went with Cinnamon. I don't think we got the lowest price, but their price was competitive. We chose Cinnamon because we value supporting a local company and also enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing they do (and stand by) all their own work. read more

When the house goes completely black and subsequently, our entire solar system shuts down, one's anxiety level suddenly goes hay wire. Really?? This can't be happening. So, I contacted Cinnamon Energy Systems, my solar installer, and spoke to Paras Shah explaining that I had experienced a total outage; no electricity from my solar panels and no electricity from PG&E. Within 20 minutes, Paras dispatched Jonathan Munoz to my location to troubleshoot the problem. Jonathan recognized the problem immediately. A circuit breaker had been tripped. He reset the tripped breaker and the power was restored. We were so grateful. However, on the following day (Saturday) we noticed our solar system was not working so we texted Jonathan about the issue. Promptly, he indicated that he thought it might be due to a faulty inverter and a replacement was ordered. In addition to the new inverter, he recommended that the BUI (backup interface), be replaced as well. Once the replacement orders were placed and confirmation was received that the units had been shipped, Yvette Cisneros, their Service Coordinator, promptly scheduled the installation date with us. She was very accommodating and considered our schedules when making the scheduled installation appointment. Installation was set for 3/24/25 between 1pm - 3pm. From start to finish, Yvette did a great job keeping us updated. It was a relief knowing that she was always on top of things, allowing us to feel at ease. When Frank Teague arrived, the lead tech, we found him to be very knowledgeable, approachable, patient and willing to answer all of our questions and concerns regarding the installation. He walked us through each step thoroughly and as we watched, we could tell he was exceptionally skilled. Soon after, Emett arrived to assist Frank especially when the heavier of the 2 units needed to be mounted in place. All in all, the entire process was very seamless -- Everything worked perfectly on the first try! Jessica S., Design Consultant, who was always responsive by text and email, came out to do the site survey and explained all of the nuances of battery and equipment placement. She was obviously experienced and knowledgeable. Cinnamon scheduled the install at the earliest possible date, and the team came out and completed it on schedule. There was one problem with the app metering, which the Cinnamon team corrected forthwith, and the SJ inspection was scheduled very soon after that date. In short, the company was very responsive, and now our solar power is being used during the time of PG&E's maximum usage rates (evening hours) and not being given back to PG&E at their practically daytime zero rate on the (almost criminal) NEM3. read more

I chose Cinnamon Energy to design and install our new solar system for several reasons: 1) Reputation, 2) Helpfulness and knowledgeability of the salesperson, 3) Very competitive quote, 3) Local company. I am glad that I chose them. The installation process was virtually seamless. They were amazingly responsive and fast. The installation was done quickly and efficiently. They did a fantastic job coordinating with PG&E and Town of Los Gatos officials. The installation is very neat, and they restored my fence and the area of the wall around the new service panel to pristine condition. I am very pleased with the results. My system is generating enough power to run my house during daylight hours, and has significantly reduced the cost of charging my EV. The monitoring software works great. I have pessimistic tendencies, so I am a little concerned about the recent reviews on Yelp that claim that their warranty service is poor. Cinnamon would have to change from the upstanding Dr Jekyll into his evil alter-ego, Mr Hyde. I hope that I won't need warranty service, but if I do, I hope that they will be as quick and efficient as they were with the installation process. read more

I have had my solar installation since 2002 and decided that i wanted to do some upgrades. My plan was to simply replace all of the panels on one string. This is only about a third of the number of panels i have. There was nothing wrong with the old ones, they were just old and only generating abut 50% of their peak output I had the pleasure of meeting John B. he came to my site to see what they could do. Having given it a good look over and reviewing my data, he agreed that replacing that string of panels made sense. He quickly got back with a proposal. Looked good and was the most cost effective available with great quality. Being an engineer myself and having worked with my system for so long, i decided that i wanted to get even better than the ones he suggested. I asked for LG's. No problem at all! He gave me a few options and we went forward. Also asked for some minor re-config of my existing system. No problem! I totally compliment the Cinnamon team for the work on this project. One of the other strings on my system decided to fail. They sent their best techs out to go through the whole thing and they got it all fixed up in a few hours. Keep in mind them coming out to do more debug was never apart of the original plan, so to have them come out and deal with my older stuff they didn't install was outstanding on their part. VERY professional imo. The whole system is up and cranking power. Sales process was great and highly professional. Actual delivery was underwhelming and ended up taking 5 months from signing to installation, with no contact for 4 months afterward. For context: Cinnamon had advised after signing that the installation might be delayed as much as 30-90 months with all of the NEM2 installs. This made sense. But Cinnamon then went radio silent. At 4 months, I followed up and as best I could tell, my project had just been forgotten and made me wonder if I would have ever been contacted if I had not checked in. Overall pretty pleased with Cinnamon's solar install. Their customer service is very responsive and great to work with. They made the process pretty seamless and there were no complications with getting everything approved by the city and coordinated with PGE. My one reservation is that their sales person explicitly represented that Cinnamon was experienced with installing panels on a metal roof before and would have no issues doing it here. Lo and behold, come install day, the team that installed the panels trampled all over and dented a brand new metal roof we had just installed less than a year ago. It was extremely disappointing, but Cinnamon was very responsive in responding to the issue and had our preferred roofing company come back and fix the roof. While the roof is mostly repaired, it's obviously not in the pristine state it was prior to the solar installation panel install. This is an issue more unique to metal roofs as you need to tread carefully on them to avoid denying them, so perhaps others won't run into this issue with a more standard roof. In the last decade, I am a 2-time customer of Cinnamon Energy Systems (previously known as Cinnamon Solar). I've went with Cinnamon to install, in 2014, a 6 kWh system, and in 2016, an 8.4 kWh system, at two separate locations, as I moved from one home to another in the Bay Area. First off, Barry Cinnamon has a wonderful and solid crew. He's built a team around him that's able to assess your home's solar capabilities, draw up a realistic proposal, perform the installation, and follows up with your installation experience. Barry is also active with the Sacramento's Energy-related initiatives, fighting on behalf of homeowners, hence he foresees upcoming changes from lobbyist activities, influencing upcoming legislatures to help homeowners, and is fully engaged in opposing PG&E's unfavorable rate changes. Anyhow, during both my onboarding process with them, I've interacted with Scott O. and he's able to map out my roof close up (recently with a drone) and make a realistic estimate of my homes' energy probable capabilities throughout a year. Appointments and callbacks are also well organized, with Christy and Paula, helping with follow ups, scheduling and routing requests to the right personnel. Jonathan M. and Felipe are out on the field and they are personable, courteous and highly professional. The installation process seem daunting at first, with timelines charted out with multiple dependencies depending on my situations. Scott carved them out clearly to include time estimates and expected delays, from panel order wait times, to multiple visits by city inspectors, to scheduling in electrician contractors, etc. Your experience may vary, but under both installs both home locations, they were both well within the estimated timelines. There's also post-installation services where they responded swiftly. The solar systems never had any issues with the energy production within expectations, but I can't say the same about my roof which needed some repairs. Barry's crew responded swiftly to help me triage the situation and resolved it within a week (with some pretty major roof work). The entire crew are diligent, hardworking, friendly, observant and quick. Cinnamon has a solid team going. I hope you'll experience the same with them as you go through your home's transition to solar energy. read more

Horrible. Had a technician come out to our property on Aug 2nd to take a look at our SolarEdge System which had stopped working. Tech spent 2 hours here to then say that the inverter needed to be replaced and that he would order it. 2 weeks passed, no word. Called multiple times/left voicemails to which no one responded. A month later.. Sept 8th, I had to start over with a new company since Cinnamon Energy had ghosted me. New company came out, confirmed that we needed a new inverter but when they tried to order it they were denied because Cinnamon Energy "had already ordered AND received it"! After a handful of continued attempts to get a hold of Cinn Energy again I finally got in contact with someone who told me that they did have my inverter and that if I paid them the initial service fee for coming out (which was $450) that they would give it to me! So essentially they held it hostage until I paid them for their incomplete job. Ended up just paying off the invoice so I could drive to their warehouse in Los Gatos to pick up and then haul home my 60lb inverter which mind you I still had to schedule and pay the new company to install. Cinnamon Energy was awful. Company I ended up using was Cobalt Power Systems who was great. read more

Poor Customer Support! Lost $$$!! System installation was delayed but OK. However, when the inverter failed during the highest production months of the year, it took them over 2 months to respond. This cost me over $1500 in lost savings. I had to hound them to get any kind of response, and the problem persisted after the "fix". I still do not have any explanation for the issue, and they will not provide any compensation for my lost savings due to their incredibly slow response. One employee blamed it on the fact that the CEO's daughter was part of the issue, and they can't blame her!! All of this occurred during my initial 12 month warranty period. Stay away! Any solar company can install a system, but components fail and support is the key to long term savings! read more

My neighbor had used Cinnamon to install her solar panels and was very happy with their work, choice of panels and price. We got a second bid just to see how it compared but ended up going with Cinnamon. Thad was great explaining our panel and battery options and the basics of how they would work. We ended up with 13 REC panels and a Franklin battery system. Before all this could be installed we needed to upgrade our old 100A breaker panel to 200A. We incorrectly assumed that PG&E would be quick to move the service drop and meter. Cinnamon was very understanding about this delay and when we finally could move forward didn't take long to come out. The crew installing the panels did a great job and were done in one day. The battery, aGate, sub panel, conduit and other necessary electrical parts took two days to install. All of this was done by Edwardo and Moses in one area of the outside of our house. It all looks well organized and easily passed inspection with Emit getting all the necessary signage on everything. The system has been in operation a while now and we are happy with it. There is a bit of a learning curve as to how everything operates and with our first power outage, just 1 1/2 hours, we discovered that we needed to make some changes in the circuits that are backed up by the aGate. Cinnamon has been very helpful about making these changes. Everyone we have come in contact with in the office has been wonderful. Yvette, Joanne and Paula are well organized and quick to get paperwork completed and to answer all our questions via email. This is a really good company and we very definitely recommend them. A few months ago I had a battery and transfer switch installed by Cinnamon. They did a great job. Last week I had a problem with the main inverter ( not their installation) and they responded immediately, had a great technician come out promptly and fixed the system. Every person in this organization is extremely professional, responsive and polite. a great company to do business with. read more

After the lengthy storm window Northern CA has experienced the past few weeks and having a 2.5 day and 4 hr PGE outage in our area, the Cinnamon Solar delivered as designed and promised, Our 16 KW battery and back up circuits kept us with power, with minimal inconveniences of moving a couple appliances to the back up circuits while functioning normally in our daily routine. The Solar Edge App automatically changed our charging % to 100% battery ahead of the storm, which kept us supplied with plenty of power to "weather the storms" 7 x 24. Keeping the furnace working was great, no need to use the wood and fireplace as the last resort backup for the lengthy 2.5 day outage. We were able share power with our neighbors to help keep their phones and computers charged. We offered for people to come over and warm up, but most were using their fireplaces for one room warmth. Very happy with Cinnamon Energy results! read more
