We used this company in July of 2026 and they were great. We had been smelling a slight gas smell in our garage for a number of months. The smell was not consistent. It only occurred when the weather was hot. Basically, only summer afternoons. We had PG&E come out repeatedly and they could not find the source. We spoke with plumbers and other heater repair companies. All of them told us that it was not our heater; that we were wrong about the inconsistency of the smell. That gas leaks are only consistent and would not happen only when it was hot. We were told that we must be wrong. We felt like we were going crazy. Until we called Bay Area Water Heaters and Dave came out (with a whole crew). He took the time to inspect our heater and said yes, this slight gas smell on hot days is something he had heard of. It was likely due to an old valve within the control panel. He walked us through our options but ultimately suggested replacing the entire heater. His team was able to do the job right then and there and at a reasonable rate. It was completed within the hour. And sure enough, no more gas smell in our garage. The owner, Chris, showed a complete inability to control his emotions and yelled at me over the phone during a routine customer service call. I had scheduled a service appointment and needed to cancel. I understand that cancellations impact a schedule, so I remained completely calm and polite throughout the conversation and paid their full cancellation fee immediately without hesitation or dispute. Despite complying with their policy right away, the owner became hostile. He lost his temper, raised his voice, and berated me for how much the cancellation hurt his business. A cancellation fee is meant to cover lost time--it is not a license to yell at and lecture paying customers who are speaking respectfully. Handling ordinary business interactions with this level of aggression and emotional volatility is completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise against dealing with an owner who treats customers this way. read more

Contacted early this AM and was promptly messaged by the owner. Detailed and specific (not like many of the other responses I received). I have a different type of venting for my water heater that home depot doesn't carry. They had the water heater in stock and arrived in about an hour of me accepting the service. TLDR; they are great if you need a one time install and NEVER needs after sale service. However if you ever need them to fix some problems AFTERWARDS (even if it's an install problem). In other words if you are giving them $$$ they were great but if it's to fix somerhing so you are not giving them money it would take 2 weeks or more to get them to reluctantly I understand all the 5 stars and that's how I felt when I had them first install a tankless heater at a property in 2019 right before I sold it. In fact I had a total of 4 installations so I thought I was a fairly loyal customer. However let me explain my 2 star rating. 1. I think the price definitely crept up. We all know prices went up but for my 2 tankless installations the price literally doubled from 2019 to 2023. It was in the $2300 range and it went to $4600-5000 range. I have both receipts so I'd know. This however is not one of the primary reasons. 2. To justify the high price the installer said there is refund for tankless water heater which turned out to be wrong. The refund was for heat pump tank water heater not for tankless. If this was the only problem then I would just attribute it to him being misinformed. 3. The installation of the water heater had a PVC tube that's too short so the water seeped into wood panels of my garage and I only found out because of the stains of water that crept out of my garage wood panels and the mold that started growing surrounding the PVC tube. 4. When I called Chris about the problem he didn't apologize. He didn't even took it into heart and reluctantly said he'll get someone to look at it IF and WHEN he had someone in the area. That took 2 weeks and eventually he reluctantly scheduled someone to fix the PVC tube. 3. We also found a leak during the fix but couldn't figure out where it came from. When I called Chris about it he was annoyed and told me to "diagnose the problem myself" and call him after I found the problem. So as a homeowner I'm supposed to figure out problems myself because they don't have time for it. What he's saying is that he doesn't want to "waste" time fixing problems that he doesn't get paid. In fact he actually told me not to call him because I'm a bad customer. So yeah as someone who gave him 4 paid jobs I'm a bad customer so I'm speechless after that. 4. After some research I realized that installing a pump (in fact it's my own old pump) to recirculate hot water on a tankless heater was a bad idea but they did it anyway without giving me advice or in fact installed one with internal pump. Once again is it the responsibility of the homeowner to know it's a bad idea? 5. This is the kicker, when I told Chris I found out that culprit is the old pump I had, he quoted me price and would be able to come as soon as next day. Once again if he can make money he would be able to come ASAP but as soon as it's a POST sale work it would have to "if and when I have someone in the area and don't call me." I understand the need to make money but customer service sometimes necessitates helping customers (with without being paid). read more

Our water heater's pilot light went out, and I was struggling to get it re-lit. When I called, Chris was super patient in walking through the steps with me. We initially thought it was all good and ended the call. However, within a minute, I saw fire escaping from the bottom of the heater. I immediately called back, and Chris explained that the heater's burner was bad and given the age of the heater (12 years), a replacement was probably the best bet. I got a range for the replacement over the phone and an appointment scheduled for the next morning. Dave came out to do the replacement and explained the work needed in an easily understandable way.
