We were replacing a gas water heater with a hybrid electric heat pump water heater. Generally, this type of heater costs twice as much (price and installation) as a traditional electric water heater, but costs a lot less to run (and therefore you recoup the additional cost in a few years from lower operating costs). I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien. read more

Amazing work by Mike and Brian! I have a 100 year old house and needed to replace a 30 year old water heater that was leaking, while also moving the set up from a laundry room to the garage. I received a quote from Mike which I thought was reasonable, but never got around to scheduling the work due to life getting busy. Of course a couple of months later my old water heater started making a loud hissing sound and I noticed a pool of water on the ground, which also meant no more hot water for me!! I called the team and they still had my quote which they honored and came out the very same day I called on a Friday! Mike remembered the nature of the work from months ago where I had asked about moving the set up to the garage so I could re-capture some living space. This meant redirecting the water and gas pipes, making sure there was a stand for code compliance, and ensuring the new unit would fit with the different height restrictions. It's an old house and both water heater closets were a bit of a challenge. He was able to make them fit in a very finite space. And, the job looks great. He cleaned the closets thoroughly before installing the new ones and helped lay down some linoleum, no less. Clearly took a lot of pride in his work. We did them over a two day period. I am still in the research process for this project, but I can say how impressed I am with Water Heaters Masters. They responded to my request so fast I thought it was a bot, but it wasn't. A real person called and left a message. I called back to explain what I was interested in and he scheduled an appointment for that day (I think). I was assured that I'd be called or texted when the technician was on his way. I expected to have to wait the full 2-hour window I was given, but no! I was called about 5 minutes before the window started to see if I was still available. The technician arrived exactly on time, right at the start of the window! After a short explanation of my needs he just said "OK, let's take a look at the space and talk about it." He explained every step of what they'd do to install a tankless water heater, he looked at the whole area to check for pipes, electrical access, spacing inside and out for a condensation line - making feel very comfortable that it would be planned before the installation to avoid last minute issues. A big plus, he told me he'd be part of the installation team. He also told me I should go ahead and get another few quotes. I think these guys are confident they're giving the prices in the sweet spot of costs. Then we spent time just talking about landscaping and plants! I'm not in a hurry to start this project, it's on my list of improvements and I'm just starting to investigate. However, I'm extremely impressed with the service given at this stage, the thorough approach in explaining, and the honestly. I will get another quote, but the next one has a high bar to cross; not only the service, but Water Heaters Masters quote was WELL below the only other quote I had gotten so far.
