After scrolling through about 8 feet of their 5 Star reviews, I got an appointment scheduled. It was urgent, as my ancient, gas floor furnace had a crack in the body where you could see flames inside. PG&E rushed over and disconnected it. I hated having to get another floor furnace and my handyman told me about other, modern choices like heat pumps. I contacted Refreshed, after reviewing many local outfits, contacted them, and Michael came the next day. I'd only seen a mini split at someone's home and knew 0 about them. Michael explained them and answered my questions. He inspected the rooms and outside and told me where heat pump should go out back, that the water faucet needed moved over a couple of feet for the unit and where best install spots where the mini splits should be mounted. A smaller one for bedroom and larger one in the living room. I was relieved financing was available and did my contract for the Bryant system, a little cheaper than their Mitsubishi, both great companies. They also do Bosch and Rheem. The crew came and I left for the day. They did all of the install, wiring, faucet relocation and breaker panel stuff by 4:00, and came home to get shown how to use the remote for them. They returned the next day to remove and haul off broken furnace and cover up the hole with plywood. Luckily I knew a carpet repair guy that came and cut a piece of carpet from my closet floor to cover the wood and replaced it with similar carpet. The next day was 86° and the AC was greatly appreciated! I feel fortunate to have discovered Refreshed and hire them. Another company that came the day before gave me a crazy high price, then their guy said he could come and do it on his own for much less! I passed on that deal. Refreshed just installed a new heat pump in my 25 year old home. I had no idea how underpowered my old system was until this one went in! I requested several bids on yelp, and Michael from Refreshed was prompt, personable and professional. The crew was wonderful and in two days we had a new, efficient system. We had a Bosch mini-split installed in our primary bedroom back in 2018 and it's been working great. Recently my wife has been complaining that it smells when being used. I opened the cover on the indoor unit and found that it was covered in mold. Not knowing what to do about it I called Bosch who gave me the number of a few companies in my area who were certified to work on their equipment. I called all the companies on the list and the one who stood out the most to me was Refreshed Heating and Cooling out of Concord, California. I spoke to Richard (owner) and he was very patient and took the time to explain everything and made me feel at ease due to my previous experiences of hiring contractors over the years. On the day of cleaning my mini-split I had John show up exactly on time with a nice looking vehicle that was wrapped with the companies information and logo on it that gave the overall impression of the company being very professional. I had set up a towel on the floor beneath my mini-split along with a step stool and a garbage can to make things as easy as possible. John placed what looked like a waterproof blanket over the top of my towel to create an even better barrier to make sure my carpet stayed clean which made me feel better about how much pride he takes in his work. Since my unit was so dirty it took quite a bit of time get it clean but when it was finally done it looked like brand new on the inside and all the mold I could see was gone. John also took a container full of compressed nitrogen and blew the coils off while using a towel to capture all the dust that blew off. John seems to take a lot of pride in his work and you can tell he has a lot of experience. When all was said and done we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I did sign a contract to have them come out every 6 months to clean this unit to make sure it never gets this bad again. Breathing mold is not good for you especially in a confined room so hopefully this will never get this bad again. If you have a mini-split I would highly recommend Refreshed Heating and Cooling for all your maintenance needs. We are extremely happy with how things turned out. read more

Introduction Meeting: We reached out to Michael Forshey regarding the purchase and installation of a mini-split system. Michael was on time for our initial meeting and walked us through various manufacturer options and required zones for our home. Since the mini-split system was new to us, Michael was very informative and professional in answering our questions during our meeting. We met and talked with Michael and his colleague Robert several times during our introduction phase. Each time we left a message they were prompt in returning our phone calls and answering our follow-up questions. We decided to partner with Refreshed Heating and Cooling because they presented us with a competitive quote and we felt comfortable and confident during our communications that Michael and his team would provide us with a positive experience. Work Completion: The installation of the 4-zone mini-split system, we were informed would take 4 days to complete. Before the start of the project, we met with Michael and Robert to review and discuss the project and answer any last-minute questions. On the start date of the project, Saul and Gilbert arrived at our house on time and walked us through the schedule for the day. We confirmed with them the location of each unit. While installing one of the units they informed us of an issue with a header beam above a window, suggesting we relocate the unit slightly to the right to avoid drilling through the header beam. My wife and I live in 1912 Craftsman bungalow on the east end of Alameda. We decided to replace our 20-year old gas furnace with a new heat pump. We were concerned that the energy efficiency rebates now available would disappear with the new incoming administration. We obtained five different quotes which bid systems from Lennox, Daikin, Trane, and Bosch. We decided to go with Refreshed Heating and Cooling as they were very cost competitive, offered the best parts and labor warranty, and were extremely responsive. In addition to installing a new Bosch heat pump system, we also had them install a high efficiency Aprilaire filter, a Reme Halo-LED in duct air purifier and replace all existing ducting with new. The installation crew, Francisco, Cesar and Saul were very professional and efficient. The job was completed in three days, exactly as promised. This was NOT an easy installation. The gas furnace was located in very cramped crawl space in our basement. Access was impaired due to the addition of earthquake shear wall after our furnace had been in place. Francisco was able to find a very effective workaround that greatly simplified the removal of the old equipment and installation of the new Bosch air handler. The crew always cleaned up at the end of the day and were very courteous and a pleasure to be around. The system has worked perfectly since it was turned on and we are enjoying much more consistent temperature, quieter operation and cleaner air than what we had before. Titus was very helpful and answered all of our questions during the bid process. Our heater broke which was outdated anyway. We called them originally to see if it could be fixed. They let me know right on the phone that they don't really work on wall heaters but that they would come by to check it out and see if they could do anything. They came by that day. We ultimately ended up just installing mini splits and getting rid of the out dated wall heater. Called Refreshed Heating and Cooling for a HVAC unit that was still blowing air but had stopped heating. Had tech come out and it was determined that a new main circuit board was needed. Quote was for 2,495 dollars. A service/cleaning was also recommended for 150 dollars. I was surprised at the cost so I got model/serial number of heater and googled circuit boards. The OEM part was available from several vendors for 200-250 dollars including shipping. I called tech back and asked him to walk me through the quote and explain how the quote could be so much. I explained that I had found the part and figured I was missing something or didn't fully understand what the job entailed. He explained that the part was 1,900 dollars due to mark up because as he said "they have to make money somewhere." The rest he explained was for the few hours of labor required for install of the new board. It was also explained that I would find this was the going rate if I called around. I called another company and they explained that they to marked up the coat of the board but, to 400 dollars and would do the job for no more than 1,200 assuming the original diagnosis was correct. I ordered the part for 200 dollars and it arrived the next day. I had another company come out and do the installation of the board and it didn't fix the issue. He did some more testing and found that our smart thermostat had been reset and heat pump had been selected on accident causing the heater to not heat but still turning on the blower. A 2,495 dollar misdiagnosis issue turned into a 200 dollar fix. The original 99 dollar diagnostic fee from Refreshed Heating and another diagnostic fee from the second HVAC tech.
