He was thorough, even recording videos of his initial inspection so that we had a record. I especially appreciated that he called out Alameda regulations that were going to change in 2029 (this informed our decision to go with a heat pump now) On the day of the installation, we had an amazing experience working with Sam, Benny, Jesus, and Jorge. They were always very thoughtful and polite. Anything that might deviate from the original quote, they would give us a headsup. For example, they noticed that one of the pipes looked missing from the outlet in the yard, and that they would just charge us for parts if they needed to go out to buy a pipe and install it. Fortunately, the pipe was just hidden. They even went out of their way to help us fix one of our broken stairway steps. It was an incredibly smooth process, and we LOVE how quiet the heat pump is. I've used Smart three times now, once for a tune up by Jesus, second for repair from Juan and the third was a entire HVAC replacement. Juan was very honest with me when he did our repair and suggested we shop around for prices because the repair would've cost us about $6,000 but might not last long... and a new unit would be around $18,000... so once his temporary repair was done (add Freon for $924) about three weeks later, the ac went out again. So it was time to just replace the 18 year old system... I checked with three other competitors. Smart landed right in the middle. I told Sam from Smart that I had a bid that was slightly lower than his and he called me to discuss it. Sam was very knowledgeable and patient. After our talk, I decided to go with Smart that night. Their crew showed up the next week and complete the job in about 10 hours. The crew complied of Jesus, Juan, Benny and George. Everyone was very professional and went the extra mile. They helped me fix some electrical issue in the attic, correct some vents that were installed backwards (thanks Plute Homes) and even vacuumed the area after the job. They were all very considerate that I had pets around and kept the door shut. I highly recommend Smart. Their contractor also came the next day to fit the new attic door. read more

One word.. Impressive. From start to finish it was a great experience. I wanted to replace my ac unit / furnace since it was 22 years old. Last few years, the ac would sometimes turn on and going into this year, I didn't want to worry. I booked Smart on-line and it was really easy. Michael came by and he checked the current setup and explained what needed to be done to replace the unit. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Granted this was my 4th quote so I knew somethings. He never pressured me to purchase but i decided to pull the trigger to have him do the job. The rate was competitive but it was his knowledge and being personable that I made me feel comfortable to have him do the job. The replacement happened the following week and his team took all day. Michael went above and beyond making sure the job was done right and replaced a wood piece to my attic that he didn't need to do, but he did. Very nice. I talked to Susie at the office and she made sure I was aware of the next steps for the HERS test and city permit visit. This is a trustworthy company that I'd use again and again. I was quoted by another company that was sent out by the home warranty company. The other company claimed that there was a rodent infestation and damage the connector cable. The repair for that was $950 and because it was caused by the pest and Therefore not covered by the insurance. I was almost ready to pay for the repair. Then, I thought I should have a second opinion by a more reputable company. I searched on Yelp. Smart Ac has the best ratings and charges only $50 for a site visit. I am glad that I found them. Of course my air conditioner stopped working in the summer. I called Smart Heating and Air Conditioning to come check it out. Sam arrived quickly and walked me through how air conditioners work and then started checking things out. He took pictures and videos of my furnace area and the air conditioner unit. It turns out it was a blown fuse and a unit to cool. He replaced the parts and got it up and running. I called Smart Heating and Air Conditioning to see if they could service our HVAC system. Raquel answered the phone and immediately made me feel comfortable. Last year we bought a new HVAC system and have yet to get it serviced. Raquel was patient when I told her that the company that sold us the system hasn't been responsive to provide the maintenance service. She explained the maintenance process. She said that the manufacturer warranty could be voided if they provide service. She was super helpful and educated me on what path I should take moving forward. I let her know that it would make me feel comfortable to reach out to the company that installed our unit to not void the warranty. Raquel understood and asked if she could take down my information in case we wanted their service in the future. She was so professional, nice and totally sold me on wanting their service in the future. The heater maintenance service they offer is around $80, which seems like a good value. Update: I'm about a month or so behind in getting this out, but felt it necessary as to be fair deserving for staying the course to make things right. After several attempts to get the matching threshold (that was damaged) for the hardwood flooring, it was finally fixed properly. This was not the heating company's fault - it was sourcing to right color/texture. I think most companies would've bailed. Mike (owner) took personal responsibility to make sure it was done right. Unfortunately, you don't find this quality much today. I trust that these missteps along the way are learning tools to mitigate these types of issues in the future.
