This review is long overdue! I have a Mitsubishi heat pump which was leaking because the person who originally installed it did not do a good job. So after 2 years, my house stopped heating and cooling. I went to the Mitsubishi verified list to find providers in my area and called a few. I got some ai robots, a few secretaries, a few technicians. Out of everyone I spoke with the ONLY person who actually talked to me about the issue was Peter Tyndall. He was so knowledgeable about it and I appreciated that he took that time. He and his crew were so professional and efficient. Our gas water heater stopped working and we reached out to several plumbers for estimates on installing an electric heat pump replacement. Peter was very responsive and much more knowledgeable about heat pump water heaters than other contractors that we reached out to. Tyndall was not the cheapest estimate, but we ended up selecting Peter because of his responsiveness and knowledge. Other contractors aggressively pushed installing a basic gas, tank replacement or a gas tankless unit, which we were not interested in. After accepting the estimate, we were able to schedule installation about a week out. We may have been able to pay a little more and install a temporary gas, tank unit while we waited, but we decided to rely on friends. The installation took a full day. If you're going electric, make sure you have space in your panel for the appropriate breaker. The Rheem unit has worked great for us since the install in February - no issues at all. I like that I can use the app to schedule the unit and set in vacation/eco mode while we're away. read more

For a few years I knew I needed to replace my HVAC system. My home being over 40 years old, it had a few quirks that I needed addressed. I had several companies come and give quotes and Tyndall was the one I went with. I had several bids offering worse equipment for $20,000 more than Tyndall. They worked with the issues my house had, and got me equipment that had the features I wanted. If I buy another home in the area, I would not hesitate to use them again. TLDR- Tyndall is great If you want a more detailed explanation, keep reading. My home is a 3 floor split level in Contra Costa County. Built in the early 1980's, the main HVAC return was on the first floor, not 10 feet from the furnace/air handler (I may use those terms interchangeably here) in the garage. The second return was on the stairs going from level 2 to level 3. It was just a gap in the drywall, with no ducting. This was code at the time, and is not uncommon. But its also useless. Following the path of least resistance, air was always pulled from the first level. This was fine in the winter, when that cold air was warmed and distributed to the rest of the house. It was a nightmare in the summer. Returning the cold air in a loop but never cooling the house. On warm days, the AC would kick on at 10 AM and not turn off until I gave up at 7 PM and the house was 80*. Completely useless. I had HVAC bills nearing $1000 in the summer. So over several months I spent time researching and getting bids. Most were very generic, plain replacement jobs with no solution to pull warm air from the third level. This was not satisfactory. Speaking with my neighbor who has a similar floor plan, he had a new return added to his upstairs hallway. After speaking to several companies and none taking it very seriously, Tyndall came and gave a detailed explanation of how it could be achieved, what I'd have to give up (part of a large hallway closet), and how it would effect the system. Next we spoke about components. They had access to several great brands, and I considered something like Carrier for quite a while, until reasoning that hybrid capability in the future had great value. Peter from Tyndall recommended a Bosch heat pump as the outside unit, which has an equally high efficiency rating as many of the AC only units, but also can heat. This is a feature that will be useful in the future if I ever get solar. I was familiar with this type of feature, as some of the rooms upstairs have mitsubishi mini split units, which can also heat. They are incredibly effective and cheap to run. For now we are not using that feature, but its an option if gas prices swing dramatically the other direction. The air handler/furnace was also replaced with a Rheem 96% efficiency unit that can be installed in a downdraft configuration, something many units cannot. Depending on where you live in Contra Costa, you may have a unit like that which will really limit what you can replace it with. This Rheem worked to achieve that, and can work in tandem with the heat pump if I ever want to use electric heating. Also something not all units can do (look for "hybrid" in the heating method). And of course, they installed a new return in the upstairs hallway beautifully, now when the AC is on and you walk upstairs, you don't hit a wall of hot air. My system actually conditions warm air from upstairs. The previous system had no filters on the furnace, only at the returns. The problem was the returns were just gaps in the subfloor and walls. So even with filters on those spots the air handler coils still got filthy. My new system has a 5" pleated filters right above the furnace, easy to change and keep the system clean. read more
