That gas leaks are only consistent and would not happen only when it was hot. We were told that we must be wrong. We felt like we were going crazy. Until we called Bay Area Water Heaters and Dave came out (with a whole crew). He took the time to inspect our heater and said yes, this slight gas smell on hot days is something he had heard of. It was likely due to an old valve within the control panel. He walked us through our options but ultimately suggested replacing the entire heater. Handling ordinary business interactions with this level of aggression and emotional volatility is completely unacceptable. I had a very easy experience getting an on-site quote. I received 3 quotes for this job. 2 quotes, including this one, came in around $7100. I went with a third one at around $6700 (which included an additional mixing valve) and am very happy with my decision. Overall price was not a big part of my decision, but brand of water heater was. After doing some research online, the most recommended brands are AO Smith and Rheem (GE). Both higher quotes were for Navien, which has only been making heat pump water heaters for 1 year, but I was told that it is the most reliable brand. I did not understand how this claim could be made, given how short the duration of evaluation for this product. Even the worst appliances usually work for at least a year. So I requested a quote for AO Smith or Rheem, which I did not get. I'm not sure why my brand request was not honored, but it made me question whether I should go with a company that either has communication issues or maybe some type of deal with Navien that I was not informed about. Many water heater installers are preferred installers of certain brands, which means they can get better pricing, etc. I did not want to be a guinea pig for Navien.

It hadn't been scheduled, and the job had been marked as finished. They did send out an electrician to install the electrical outlet. The work was great. Again, the electrician asked for payment. I reminded them that the permit was still outstanding. The next day, they had my credit card number on file for a different job, and just used that number to charge for the work. But the job wasn't finished. I paid them a good amount of money, that they charged me for to get the permit for the work. For three weeks I have been trying to contact them to finish the work. In the past, you could talk to someone. Now, every time I call, I get a AI service rep that sends me to voice mail. I have left many, many voice mails, and I have never gotten a call back. I did get a call back from Hank, the AI agent, who then again sent me to a voice mail. Honestly, it pains me to say that they are not the same company they were a year ago.
