Updated Review - 8 Months Later I'm updating my previous review now that the system has been installed and we've moved into the post-installation phase--and unfortunately, my experience has changed significantly. To be clear upfront: the sales experience was excellent. Kris Richards handled the sales process professionally, transparently, and without pressure. He was knowledgeable, responsive, and worked with us to design a system that met our needs. Based on the sales experience alone, I felt confident moving forward. However, everything after installation has been extremely frustrating. The solar and battery system (solar + two Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries) was installed in October 2025, and we passed city inspection within about two weeks. Since then, the project has been effectively stalled due to Freedom Solar Power's repeated failures in submitting a correct Interconnection Application to Duke Energy. Freedom Solar has been attempting to submit the interconnection application since September 16, 2025, and it has now been rejected more than six times due to basic, avoidable errors. These are not edge cases or utility-specific nuances--they are fundamental documentation and data-entry mistakes. Examples of rejection reasons from Duke Energy include: Battery model and quantity listed incorrectly (Powerwall 3 not named correctly or quantity missing) Battery model number formatting errors One-line diagrams listing incorrect or unapproved equipment Tesla equipment shown on drawings but not listed on the Interconnection Application Mismatched customer names between the billing system, application, agreement, and one-line diagrams Incorrect total battery capacity listed Missing or incorrect application fee (Tier 2 fee not submitted) What makes this even more frustrating is that I receive the rejection notices directly, and Freedom Solar does not take action unless I call them to point out the issue. There is no proactive follow-up, ownership, or apparent quality control before resubmission. As a result: I am not allowed to turn the system on I am paying for an expensive solar + battery system that I cannot use I am still paying full electric bills Weeks (now months) have passed with no resolution due entirely to administrative errors At this stage, the installation itself is complete, but the project is effectively unfinished because Freedom Solar cannot successfully complete the interconnection process--a critical, standard part of any solar installation. This experience has been extremely disappointing and has completely undermined the confidence created during the sales process. Freedom Solar needs to significantly improve its post-installation project management, documentation accuracy, and accountability, especially for interconnection submissions. Customers should not be responsible for policing basic paperwork errors on a project of this cost and complexity. I hope Freedom Solar resolves this soon, but until then, I cannot recommend them based on execution after installation. read more

I talked to them and asking why so much noise response we have the right to start or work at 7 Am .well it the 31 dec and they did the same arround Chtistmas. When they left they left trash like empty plastic bottle . I do beleive that behaviour of the worker is also a reflection of the company. I called also and no one care. It isnot ok to not be tespectfull and do not care where and when you work . This installation is new and they already coming to fix it ! We've just completed a battery upgrade to our Freedom Solar installed Solar system. As before we are very pleased with the service and value that Freedom Solar provided. They communicated schedule, arrived on time, and completed our system upgrade promptly. The appearance of the install is also excellent (many solar providers take short cuts that make the installation look amateurish.) Freedom Solar's installs look seamless. In terms of attention to detail and follow through, I was pleased with Freedom Solars commitment to getting things done right. We had a few small details that took several extra visits to work through, which they did gladly - and went above and beyond - even checking some things out that they had not installed and correcting a couple of electrical connections that they were not actually responsible for. I am a little overdue for writing this review. I got solar installed last year by Freedom and the process was pretty painless and I have had no problems with the hardware they installed. After talking to one installer I decided that it was required for whoever I gave my project to that I wanted them to be NABCEP certified (so that you can be sure they know what they are doing). Freedom passed this check. The other thing that put Freedom in the upper tier of consideration is that they were recommended by the guys who installed my roof (and did an awesome job). I felt confident that my roof would not be leaking after the install. The hardest part for me was deciding how many panels to install. 8 would cover my current needs, and 16 would likely cover me if I replaced by water heater and central heater with heat pumps, but it is unclear exactly when these systems might fail. So I split the difference at 12 and am still comfortable that that is the right choice for me (it is going to be at least 5 years before I replace one of them). Due to the NetMetering 2.0 deadline last year I was only able to get two quotes for a 12 panel solution. Freedom Solar was significantly below the other quote and they passed my other requirements so I pulled the trigger and signed a contract with them. Due to the backlog of installs of people trying to beat the aforementioned deadline they set my expectations realistically. But due to things out of their control they were able to move me up the queue by several months. Cool. The install went as planned (there was one problem but that one was on me). This was completed in 2 days, and turned on shortly later by PG&E. 15 months later the system is still working with no problem, and no leaks in my roof. And it sure is nice paying $0 to PG&E for electricity every month... My overall impressions: Responsive company, low-pressure sales, very good communications, and they do quality work. Who knew I would write a review for this company the third time. I got audited by IRS on the tax rebate. IRS requested city permit to prove the install location and some other document to prove service activation. I was worried that install company will not able to help me. To my great surprised, I just made a phone call and the owner sent them to me within hours. My wife worked in an accounting firm and her client has similar situation and she told me the installation company is not cooperative and didn't provide those info. BEWARE: Freedom Solar started out as an excellent solution and replacement of a prior solar company that did not work out. Rich, the CEO and Owner, was pleasant, informative, timely and they came highly recommended. The install was efficient, on time, and even accommodated for a day of rain. After that, however, the relationship unfortunately disintegrated. It took more than 4 months to conclude the project because of TWO failed permit inspections because the layout, diagram and placard were incorrect. Waste of our time and energy, as well as having to send numerous emails to chase the status of the permits with FS. In fact, there were no scheduled permit inspections scheduled until we reached out to tell them that the Enphase monitoring technology they installed stopped communicating about 4 weeks after install. Additionally, despite several emails to FS, the Enphase problem was consistently put back on us. We had multiple calls to Enphase, and several days and hours and much frustration later, a new circuit board was sent out -- and we had to send pictures of this to FS because they wanted to know if it was correct. Enphase is their vendor, yet we spent the time troubleshooting the issue, and had to order new equipment. Not once did FS come out to look at the malfunctioning monitor. Once everything was fixed 4+ months later, they were very quick to send the invoices for the final balance -- about $6K due immediately -- with no apology or acknowledgement that they caused these delays. Freedom Solar started off great, but the back office communications and processes are not streamlined, and the customer service and attitude that we dealt with were at times unprofessional. They get your money, do the install and you're left to figure out and chase the remaining work that finalizes the project. read more

Yes, Freedom Solar is paid by Government incentives to install and for the cost of hardware. TL;DR, Stay away from this installer! Do not use this company unless you have a ton of time to waste and want to learn all details of solar installation. There are several negative reviews of them, but all were blamed to the company. To prevent this review being treated the same way, I want to be clear that this review is for Freedom Solar based in Campbell (95008) whose owner/president is Rich M. I seldom leave Yelp reviews, but feel that I have to share my experience with more people regarding this company. Also, their ops manager Michael C. encouraged me to share my experience here. Comparing to most other reviews here, I believe I know a bit more details regarding how solar system works, since I have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering. Before signing the contract, everything moves fast, and very person I talked to was responsive and reasonable. However, once I signed the contract and the made the $1000 deposit, everything stopped, no actual response from they anymore, except saying "will get back to you", but never did. After waited for more than three months (original estimation was 6 months, so they said they did me a huge favor), they contacted me and told me that they could schedule the installation after two days. This was a short notice, but I adjusted my schedule. Then, in the next day, the screws showed up in front of my house without any notice, and wanted to start installation. In the email from Dylan C, he said "We are going to use the Ironridge Flashfoot 2 flashings for your project. These are the equivalent to the Pegasus flashings!", but the crews actually used QuickBolt, which can save a lot of their installation time (google it to find out more), but how long this would last is unknown since this just came out a few years ago. The installation went pretty smoothly and professionally, maybe because of the QuickBolt? And the city inspection went well too. Then the long wait started to get the PTO from PGE. There was no communication or any update from Freedom Solar, the only messages I got every week was the request for final payment. I told them, per contract, my system didn't get the Permission to operate from PGE, which depending the review and approval of the solar system design by PGE. Without the permit from PGE, the solar panels are just useless. But Freedom Solar argues that their contracts with customers require final and full payment after city inspection regardless if it passes PGE review or not. I insisted making final payment only after PGE reviewed and approved the solar system design and sign off the permit to operation (PTO). Because the work has not been completed yet, and here is an email from Freedom Solar: "Once I get the PTO email I will go on the SunPower monitoring portal, turn on your PV, send you an email with access to your homeowner portal." During this time, I contacted PGE many times, and was told that PGE was waiting for installer into upload required documents via their portal, and suggested me to contact my installer. When I contacted Freedom Solar, they blamed PGE for the delay. After another 3 month waiting, the billing department repeatedly sent messages requesting for final payment, and threaten to send the bill to collecting agency. However, the company clearly told me that, they have to wait for PGE's approval before they can turn on the SunPower system and the App. The lady from the billing department then talked to the owner Rich, who is very reasonable, and helped me escalate this to their ops team (who never replied any of my emails), then guess what? The PGE approved the PTO within 36 hours! After the system being turn on, I noticed that power consumption is missing in the SunPower App, which should be a default feature by SunPower as they wrote in the website https://us.sunpower.com/blog/2023/02/02/monitoring-solar-energy. However, Freedom Solar said this is an extra feature and their customers have to pay extra to enable it. I asked everyone I know who has installed solar, and everyone has this feature no matter what they installed, e.g., SunPower, Tesla, or Enphase monitoring system. Their Ops manager Michael C. is very rude and unprofessional, and was willing to spend 1 hour arguing with me in front of my electrical panel rather than have it installed. This Michael from Freedom Solar Campbell insisted the customers have to pay extra to enable this, because this is not in the contract. The contract is really simple, and basically has nothing inside, not even mentioning about the monitoring system. If I had made the final payment, I guess they won't even bother to come and discuss this with me. Michael also told one true by accident, he said his company does not enable several default feature like the panel level monitoring provided by SunPower, simply because they don't want to answer questions due to these features. This is a review about Freedom Solar's Rich M. This company is suggested to me by my roofing company. I need to dispose my old solar panels, but before uninstalling them from the roof, the solar inverter needs to be shutdown. I call Rich M. if his company can help me to shutdown the inverter as the roofing company does not have the expertise to do this shutdown. Instead of him sending me somebody and charge me for such a small job, we go through the connections of the inverter as well as a myriad of other boxes around the inverter over the phone, and he explained to me what the several boxes are for and in which order to shut them down. He even offered me to have a video conversation over Facetime so that I can show him the boxes with the labels on them. I really appreciate his help. read more

Freedom Solar did a great job installing a solar system for us in late 2021. Rich, the owner, did the estimate and the system design. He answered a million of my questions patiently and knowledgeably, and I really appreciated the fact that he didn't try to sell us a bigger system than we needed. I think his original suggested design was for a system with 7 panels, which would just barely offset our average electricity usage over a year. In the end we elected to go with a 13 panel system to "future-proof" the installation against a time when we might install A/C and / or get an electric vehicle. To be clear, this was our decision and not something that Rich was pushing at all. The installation crew was professional and efficient--the job was done in one day. Maybe the best part was the way that Rich coordinated with our roofing company (we had solar installed right after replacing the roof). He worked very hard to get it all done before the end of the calendar year, which was super-beneficial for us in terms of the solar tax credit and may potentially be to our advantage in terms of the way that PG&E credits us for net electricity generation. Working with Freedom was a great experience, and we recommend them without reservation. read more

In June 2019 I noticed I was having an issue with my Sun Power portal. I emailed Susan Moore at Freedom Solar. Susan responded via email while on vacation in Spain, and told me that my system was working fine. The issue with the portal was due to a faulty micro inverter. Susan contacted Sun Power to make arrangements to have SP replace all the micro inverters with SP's new ones manufactured by SP. The new old micro inverters were replaced by SP micro inverters. My service experiences since 2013 when I installed the system have always been excellent with SP and especially Freedom Solar. read more

Freedom Solar installed Sunpower solar panels and a Tesla battery array in my single family home. Due to COVID-related Tesla Powerwall supply shortages, the project had to be broken up into stages stretching over the course of about a year. Throughout the project Freedom Solar was always on top of the situation completing unblocked parts of the project on time and as promised. They kept my inner engineer super-happy with the excellent and detailed planning, good levels of internal organization and coordination with PG&E, Tesla, etc and most importantly the awesome quality of the actual work performed. The project coordination was complex and involved reevaluating the power sizing of the neighborhood transformer, upgrading the pole-to-house electrical feed, numerous permits, installing a new whole house panel as well as installing new, rather lengthy electrical runs to the EV charger and the heat pump water heater in the garage. Throughout it all, Freedom Solar took care of all the logistics and the coordination. In one example, the city code for battery backup installations has changed by the time Tesla supplied the batteries. Freedom professionally handled the situation and accommodated a more complex installation set up necessitated by the changes in the city code. My special thank you goes out to Hristo Sanchez who, together with his crew, was absolutely top-notch when it comes to the work quality and customer service. At the conclusion of the project Freedom Solar provided a detailed PDF binder of all the engineering plans, permits and manuals involved. Overall, I felt like I got a great value for the money spent. Best products and service ever! Rich Moore, there is a saint with his patience in answering my many questions. They installed a SunPower system in my home in Los Altos a few years ago and I have been super happy. I love they do the monitoring and even let me know when the connection is not working and I need to reboot the modem. Rich has very strong integrity and is true to his word in delivering. I have not had any issues and it seems he sized the system perfectly for me, even anticipating increased demands as I added A/C and electric car charger. Rich has also been very kind in continuing to answer my questions, years later. I recently needed help comparing various products for a solar system for a second home of mine in Hawaii. He took me through the various proposals from different vendors listing the pros and cons. He will not make a cent from that, but took the time anyway to help me. Rich and his team at Freedom Solar did a great job on our solar panel project from the initial design, installation and follow up. He explained everything about the system, installation trade-offs, and future expansion capability versus other systems. A big concern to my wife and I was if we would purchase an electric vehicle in the future and have higher electrical demands, how difficult and costly would it be to expand the number of panels. The system we purchased from him was much more adaptable to future growth, higher quality, and more efficient than other systems we looked into from other companies, and just slightly higher in cost. We are in our third month of usage and are actually generating about 5% to 10% more electricity per day than expected, and we haven't even hit the high productivity spring and summer months yet. When going solar make sure you consider a batery! 40% rebate from Edison and 30% tax credit=70% off the batery. My system is state of the art! The software shows every little detail of my system. Batery, solar panels, usage, and power sent to the grid. All on my screen. (LG 9.8kwh batery. 305watt QCell panels. Solar edge inverter, optimizers and smart software). My bill is $30 less per mo and I own my system 3.99% financed. My system is even smaller because of the batery. Dont completely understand but litle or no electricity has to go the grid and back. Joe did a great job of explaining how it all works or flows. Dont do solar without a batery its almost free. read more

Wanted to install solar panels for the new roof, so I talked to a number of different installers about different options, and ended up choosing to go with the SunPower solution and Freedom Solar over another local installer also offering the SunPower product. Decided to go with Freedom Solar because of how knowledgeable, professional and patient Rich Moore was in his dealing with me. He took the time to explain different options to me, why he would prioritize certain roof locations over others, what the whole process would be like, and he even took the time to provide me some advice on issues I was having with preparation for new electrical service from PG&E. Moreover, Rich was never pushy in the process. He and his project coordinator Michael worked patiently with my ever changing project timeline, which was complicated by the pandemic, my desire to have the surface of the panels as flush with the roof concrete tiles as possible--which required their crew to be on-site more times than usual--and the unpredictable timeline of PG&E critical to certain aspects of my project. Despite everything, Rich and the Freedom Solar team always delivered on what they communicated to me. It's been more than six months since the panels were turned on and the monitor went online, and everything has worked fabulously! Since the tail end of winter, we've been able to charge my wife's EV regularly while still generating enough electricity during peak hours to offset all electricity use. We've have now had our solar system for a bit over a year. The installation went without problems. The salesperson and the installers were professional and courteous. I had done a price comparison with other solar companies and found that Freedom Solar's system was appropriately priced. (we went with the micro inverters which not all other companies offer). The system came with a monitoring system which allows to monitor daily production. The system is also linked to the company's system, so if there should be a problem with any of the panels, they will realize it and act on it. I also receive a monthly email with a production summary and comparison to previous months. I recomment Freedom Solar. read more

My roof is supposed to be guaranteed for 10 years against any damage caused by the panels and conveniently they say it's not caused by the panels but yet my roof was fine before the panels went up. Project Summary It has been 8 months since Freedom Solar completed installation of our SunPower system. Overall excellent experience with Freedom Solar, but there was a hiccup with a faulty SunPower PVS5 monitor where we couldn't track how much our system was producing for 1-1/2 months. This required 2-3 more visits by the Freedom Solar staff, but system has been working very well. Contacted Freedom Solar in late DEC 2017, but couldn't get an estimate until JAN 2018 because of the holidays, signed contract and installation completed in early FEB 2018, then system was inspected by City of Sunnyvale, and connected to the grid after PG&E approved permission to operate in late FEB. Additional visits required in MAR and early APR because SunPower asked the Freedom Solar staff to try several troubleshooting steps before agreeing to simply replace a faulty PVS5 monitor, which apparently rarely happens. It's nice to see our PG&E bill essentially go down where total amount is for PG&E connection fee and for gas - about $25/month so far. Freedom Solar Staff All are professional, friendly and helpful: 1) Clayton Coate, solar consultant, initially came out to our home for the site evaluation and drew up estimate for a system; he always returned my calls during my review process as I was getting estimates from several companies - learned a lot from Clayton about the industry; 2) Pedro led the installation crew and they were efficient and clean completing everything in 1-1/2 days; 3) Henny Upton, office admin, who provided up-to-date emails with billing statements and system user manuals; 4) Michael Copeland, project manager, coordinated install, inspections by City of Sunnyvale and PG&E; 4) Susan Moore, another project support staff, came by because of the issue with the SunPower PVS5 monitoring system which required Michael to come and install a new unit in APR after SunPower approved and provided a replacement. SunPower System As I said earlier, the system is working well and I am quite happy with its performance, but this is feedback I sent to SunPower after being sent a questionnaire soon after the install, rating them 7/10: "Rating would be higher, but already dealing with a monitor issue where PVS5 cannot connect and recognize the inverters on each panel. Freedom Solar spent nearly 3 hours today (Mar 23, 2018) troubleshooting issue over the phone with SunPower Tech Support who walked team through so many hoops only to determine what was already a problematic PVS5. It is my understanding companies go through rigorous training to qualify as a SunPower Elite Dealer, but your Tech Support process is so elementary taking up a lot of time for all involved. You should have a streamlined approach for escalation and approval for a replacement PVS5. The system was installed properly and professionally - good thing is that the system is producing and connected to the grid. Just can't monitor production and usage...yet." read more

We couldn't be happier with Freedom Solar! We met with a few of the big national companies that pushed leasing the equipment. Freedom understood that we wanted to purchase and worked with us to install the perfect system at the lowest cost. The installers showed up on time and completed the job as scheduled. Initially we had connectivity issues with our Power monitor. Freedom tech support came to our home and resolved the issue quickly. Freedom Solar gave me two choices, either a "best-bang-for-the-buck" SunEdison system at a great price or a "best-of-the-best" SunPower system for maximum electricity.
