Unreservedly recommend Clean Solar! Had PV Solar installed when the house was built in 2006. Under our existing rate plan (time-of-use, meaning pay high rates 4-9 pm and low rates the rest of the time), and metering agreement (NEMS 2.0), we were selling more electricity (in $ terms) than we were using. However, we will be forced to switch to the new metering agreement (NEMS 3.0) in late 2026, which drastically cuts how much PG&E pays us for electricity we sell to them--we will end up paying money to PG&E. This motivated me to consider installing a whole-house battery storage system to do "rate shifting"--store the excess electricity generated by our PV system in the morning and early afternoon to power the house during the high rate period (4-9 pm). And of course provides energy in the event of a power outage. I also wanted to take advantage of the energy tax credit before it expires at the end of the year. Reading reviews on Yelp, Google, and other sites, I decided to contact Clean Solar along with 3 other companies. Clean Solar was the first to respond and I had a thorough conversation with a Senior Design Analyst, Art Balaoro. He listened and understood my goals, answered my (many) questions and said he would get back to me with options in a few days. Of the other 3 companies, 2 never responded to my inquiry at all! The other one did, but I had to repeatedly reach out to them to make any progress on getting a quote. In contrast, Art did as he said and responded within a week with several options, primarily around which battery vendor to go with (Tesla vs. Franklin, I preferred the latter) and the battery location. Clean Solar scheduled a technician to come out and look at our house: location and configuration of the main panel, possible battery locations, where the existing PV inverter was, etc. Took a lot of photographs and measurements to verify compliance with building codes. In contrast, the other vendor was sluggish to schedule someone to visit, so I ended up sending them photos and measurements from the Clean Solar visit. Because of the peculiarities of my house's main panel, it was going to be more difficult (and expensive) to install the Franklin battery. And although I would have preferred to put the battery inside my garage, building codes would have required a replacement of the entire smoke alarm system throughout the house, also adding significant expense. Art walked me through these issues thoroughly and so I went with the recommended (and cheaper) option, going with the Powerwall and an outside location. In contrast, the other vendor didn't do as thorough an analysis and wasn't aware of these issues until I pointed them out. When I did get a comparable quote from them (exact same system components), it was slightly more expensive than the Clean Solar quote. I started this process in June, and immediately Art said it was going to be a close thing to finish the project before the end of the year--so many people were wanting to install solar or battery projects and claim the tax credit. Art also walked me through the timeline for the whole process and how it would be managed on their end. Based on the interactions I had with him and others, I felt that Clean Solar was the best choice for my project--and my experience bore that out. read more

This is my second time around with Clean Solar, and they are just as stellar as the first time, if not better and more efficient. We needed to add panels because we purchase an EV and needed more solar to offset PG&E. The impeccable experience started with Art the consultant, he gave 4 scenarios and explained in detail what each means and provided detail report including all the tech details and break even timing. To be honest, it was too much for me, I really just wanted pricing and how long it takes to install haha but was good to know he has such knowledge and I was confident he is looking out for my best interest. Then we had Patrick the PM, arrived for site inspection on time and courteous and explained the whole process. Then come the impressive installation team Luis, Alberto and Kevin. The 3 arrived on time and with smiles, just overall a great vibe from them. Luis walked me through the installation plan and gave a few choices taking into consideration aesthetics of the house and then got to work. 4 hours later, clean line, fine craftsmanship and symmetrical matching placement from last system is in place and ready to tangle with PG&E (attaching some photos) I really really can't recommend any higher to go with Clean Solar on your solar projects. However when 1 person is acting unprofessional, crossing the line, asking homeowners to borrow a usb cable to charge their cell phone, super loud, tries to impress (why), doesn't listen to clients (would walk away in mid conversation), act as if he is the owner of the company, talks way too much (not in a good way), talking about his side hustle business, a bit juvenile, not completing and complaining about the job in front of clients plus not showing up when he said he would to complete the job, leaving tools at the site and asking the homeowners to put it in their garage until he returns to pick it up, calls in sick last minute leaving the load to other team members plus more well then this becomes a problem and 0 stars (if possible) especially the amount of money you invest into this project. We also requested that this person not show up again but they kept sending him back. At the end of the project half of the Tesla walls were connected and working but the other half wasn't connecting. At one point our bedrooms electricity didn't work, it wasn't the breakers and Nick was awesome enough to take our after hours call and help us manually override those other 2 disconnected wall panels. The dream team (Nick, Kevin and Albert) resolved the connection and all is working now. Also, Nick stayed late to make sure our Tesla walls were configured and updated properly. Plus , a shout out to Jeremy for staying late as well to help fix a broken issue. Feedback: Organize a team that works well together to effectively complete the project. Charged me $300 for a site visit to tell me it would cost $1100 to install a single breaker into my main panel which is right next to the line needing to be backed up. Called another company and it was $200 and no site visit charge. If you have no problem getting way overcharged go ahead and use these guys Communication was also iffy. Since then, the system has worked very well for us and definitely has proved its worth in energy savings. Occasionally, we have had mechanics issues with older micro inverters that were mis-reporting or failing to report. I'm not surprised; hey, the system is nearly 25 years old. My review is to praise the awesome customer service and repair support of this company. If the system is acting up in some way, they provide a support e-mail which they will reply to in 48 hours or less. After a series of incidents, I've built enough confidence to leave this review. I chose Clean Solar over another well-established local company with 15+ years of experience and paid over $10K more for their promised superior warranty and service. Unfortunately, the outcome has been the opposite. First of all, the quality of the installation is subpar. The most recent issue was that my system failed to detect a power outage and continued charging instead of powering the home. This was the very first outage since installation--just two months later. It's clear they never properly tested the backup mode. There were also several smaller issues before this one. Secondly, their customer service is slow once the contract is signed and payment is made. In the incident above, I received no response even after one full business day. They don't provide a phone number, so the only option is to email and wait--sometimes until the power comes back on its own. The difference in responsiveness before and after installation is quite obvious. Such support and workmanship might be understandable for a budget installer, but for a company that markets itself as premium and charges at the top of the market, I expected much better. With this level of service, I honestly worry about how well they can support customers over the next 10 years. read more

Could've sworn I wrote a review (was it taken down?) that focused mainly on sales, but now I can write a more-full review. Logan was very informative on the whole solar system. He helped size a system for me and discussed options on roofing (as my roof was near the EOL stage). I ended pulling the trigger to get a new roof done. I had actually approached them 4 years ago but did not seal the deal. I came back to them because they gave great service. They also gave great service this time. The hiccup in my mind is that it took a while though to go from roofing to the permitting for the solar install, where I think they can have compressed my project (roof install + solar/battery install) by parallel-tracking my application for solar instead of serializing the project (roof first, then solar). On the positive note, they paid for the re-application for a change order that was their mistake and missing a component which we split the cost on, so they do own up to their efforts. On the install, I had an awesome crew come out. Supervisor Emilio and his team , Hector and Roger, worked on my home project. They were engaging, answered my questions, didn't mind me hovering to learn about the system (especially seeing how they wired up the system). Downtime to disconnect from grid was only about 2 hours or less. They were very professional with at least 7 years of experience each person. It was easy to converse with them and connect to know these fine gentlemen. I needed an inverter replaced under manufacturer warranty; the original installer had gone out of business. The only time they were able to come was right after I left town for the weekend, so I left the RMA outside, under the existing inverter, for them to find. The day comes and goes and I get an email saying the worker wasn't able to find it, and that they'd reschedule next week. I was upset, not wanting the whole thing to sit outside, and told them that if it wasn't done when I got back, I'd get someone else to do it. Miraculously, they promptly managed to fit it in. The installation did take place, but the installer wasn't able to get it hooked up to the wi-fi for status monitoring because he couldn't type the password correctly. I had to set it up myself when I got home (via a process not officially supported by the vendor). Meanwhile, getting updates by email and text was like pulling teeth, either getting minimal (and sometimes incorrect) responses, and no proactive communication when there was a problem. So while they did get the work done, and for the best price offered, the whole process was extremely fraught. read more

Since I am not familiar with the process of getting approval with PG&E and the step involved in getting it activated before deadline, I wanted to get some input from him on this. They went above and beyond the call not only in installing a smoothly running solar system (7 months so far) but also in helping us clear up an initial mistake we had made with an application to PGE. The SolarEdge PV system has worked well since clean Solar installed it in 2016. I've had a couple of warranty claims since then, including some power optimizers, and the inverter, and Clean Solar were quick to respond to my requests/issues and made the repairs as quickly as possible. I wanted to emphasize that the system has worked flawlessly. The only issue was that the 3G radio used for monitoring needed to be replaced, but they proactively informed me of this. A few months after the upgrade, I started noticing that the batteries were going below the minimum reserve requirements. I immediately notified Clean Solar of the issue and in a matter of days, Michele sent Jose to check the system. It took a while to get the issue resolved as troubleshooting and identifying the root cause required detailed analysis, coordination with Enphase, ordering the needed parts, and trying a couple of solutions. Eventually, the problem was resolved. Yes, it took a while but all through out the process, I did not feel left out. I was one of those people kicking around the idea of installing solar panels in my home. Thankfully I met the good folks at Clean Solar who clearly explained Net Energy Metering (NEM) 2.0 and the advantages of installing now. The team was great, from helping me decide what size system to get (I don't have an electric car, but it is part of my plan) to working with the city to get permits and finally switching my PG&E account to NEM 2.0. This was a challenging task, and I know there was an avalanche of customers like me that wanted to get Solar installed before the deadline quickly. Even with all of the challenges, the entire process was an absolutely flawless experience. I would have put Solar in earlier had I known how easy and efficient the experience could be! My biggest worry was not knowing who to go with. Clean Solar did all the leg work and research for me. I'm glad Clean Solar didn't waste any time and got right to it like they said they would. Absolutely horrible experience. My project manager was terrible, and for how long the project took (about 14 months) i can honestly say it was one of my worst experiences working with a company. The work did eventually get done and the system is running but it was a rocky experience to say the least. I sent a lengthy note to the company's leadership after the project was complete (below). No response was sent back to me. "While I have already submitted payment for $16,455.25, I also wanted to provide some feedback and highlight a few frustrating experiences I had working with the team, and specifically with [project manager]: - The reason I had not submitted payment yet is because somehow there was a change in payment due, sent by [Project manager] on 4/9/2024, increasing from $9,042.45 to $17,655.25 without any explanation. [I spent an hour doing some digging, found there was an accounting error on clean solars part and paid it no prob. I would just have appreciated an explanation instead of me digging through documentation] - after 4/3/2023 when [project manager] first introduced herself to me, I sent out four emails and it took 14 days to get a substantive response and a total of 59 days (6/1/2023) to hear back about a planning chat. - I even reached out to [sales person] on 5/3/2023 to check-in on if this project was still happening (and after I had already submitted over $50k in payment). - [project manager] was often not responsive to emails sent, especially around the electric panel work (see emails from November 2023). It often took a few weeks to get responses. - Also some of her correspondences felt disrespectful, specifically regarding repair scheduling for the holes in my roof from drilling. There was an issue where the contractors did not come within the specified time window, and so I had left the house. Today, 9-Mar-22, was the final onsite visit with Loga, my Clean Solar Rep. Thank you Logan for all your assistance over the months. My journey started with Clean Solar July 2021. I did not call any other solar businesses, due to the people that referred me to Clean Solar. I started working with Logan on the scope of work to include panel installation and backup battery storage. I appreciated that he asked, more than once, why I wanted solar with such low electrical usage. My reasons were 1) environment, 2) unstable grid, 3) backup power, and 4) tax credit. I started meeting with different leads related to the solar and battery project. I had both the panel guy and the battery guy come on the same day. Both were very friendly and professional. The panel guy had the harder job as I live in circa 1894, 3-story home with a VERY steep roof. Great discussions, lots of agreement, no surprises. I began interfacing with Stephanie, the Project Manager, regarding timelines and what to expect. We found a good communication rhythm, which helped as the project began stretching over several months. My panels, with inverter, shutoff, etc. were installed early November. The installation was a 2-day job. Crew was very professional. Amazing to look at the sleekness of the panels on the roof of my vintage home. During the day I would engage in conversation with the "electrical" person on the ground and learned a lot about the system. The inspection was a breeze. I had a thorough onsite visit with Logan after panel installation phase was completed. Went through forms, next steps and the ever-important discussion about the PG&E interconnection steps and timing. During the same time frame the final plans for the battery were being approved by Redwood City. For full disclosure, I was NOT backing up every circuit in my house, as it was NOT necessary. The Clean solar team worked with me making sure the critical circuits would be covered. Late 2021,or early 2022, the plans were approved and installation of the battery took place mid-January over two days. Again, a very professional crew. They went the extra mile by making slight changes to layout of equipment for efficiency and look. We sailed through the final inspection in February. Just a side note. With each installation, I was reminded that the crew would do touch up painting to the exterior of my home. I thanked them and said I was changing the color, so not to worry. Today is a good day to post this review. My project is complete AND the Federal tax refund landed in my checking account. I will also get another refund when I file 2022 taxes, since some of my costs were paid this year. I am very satisfied with Clean Solar and the respect that they afforded to me and my vintage home.
