DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. This company operates in bad faith and will bait-and-switch you. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TODAY. We originally chose them a few years ago because they offered free solar panel removal and reinstallation when we eventually needed a roof replacement. The initial install went fine, but trying to get them to honor their contract now has been a nightmare. Bait and Switch: They are suddenly demanding a $3,600 fee for the removal. Even their salesperson admitted this fee was not indicated in our main agreement from 2021, but is now picking apart vague fine print (outside of our contract) to justify it. We have sent the contract over multiple times and asked them to highlight the language where it specifies this charge. Unethical leadership: Leadership is aware of this $3,600 gap, but they don't want to back down. Terrible Customer Service: They are dragging their feet and refusing to coordinate with our roofer, who has been consistently asking for dates to remove the solar. Ignored Emergencies: We explicitly told them we have an active roof leak and asked them to prioritize the removal so we could fix our home. They did not care. Once they finish your initial install, they will abandon you and refuse to give you the time of day. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. David was outstanding. He took the time to walk me through system sizing, storage capacity, and payment options in a way that felt collaborative--not salesy. My husband recently purchased an EV car this year so we decided to evaluate our current solar set up. Our goals with adding additional solar this year were to increase our energy production to cover a new BEV, and also to add a battery to smooth out our load. Additionally, we wanted to take advantage of the tax credits while they were still available. Unfortunately so did a lot of other people, so demands were high among the local solar companies and we worried we wouldn't be able to get on anyone's schedule in time to meet the tax credit deadlines. David Morgan did the design and worked hard to answer my technical questions, Jack Fitchie was the PM and kept us up to date and on track, Xang and his team were quick and efficient, they left the site clean and looking good. Got critter guards in 2023. They worked fine until last September, see the gap in a corner of the panels. A squirrel got in and damaged a panel irreparably. Simply Solar showed up October 8, bypassed the broken panel and repaired the critter guard ... I believed when I climbed up the roof later. I thought that I had done a superior job. But ... not so. The system went down and when I inspected the roof October 28: THE SAME DAMAGE TO THE CRITTER guards and yet another panel broken. Called up and experienced heavy push back. "It could be the inverter." Send them an email and asked them to take responsibility for not fixing the root cause. Nothing. We purchased a solar power and power storage system the consisted of an array of 32 roof-mounted PV panels and two high capacity Franklin WH storage batteries along with the necessary electronics that make it work with our home and guesthouse electricity usage. The lead member on our installation crew was Andres who kept things moving quite efficiently. The actual components installation went well and it has been operating as designed since PGE granted permission to operate in early October. We had one PGE outage and the system took over and kept everything running like normal. Simply Solar offered me the best value for my money from over 10 firms I got bids from and got my solar panels and battery on to my single-family home in less than two days flat. They also came up with a creative solution to solve a challenge posed by my legacy 2005 main panel whose upward-opening door was only 1" away from the PG&E meter when fully opened. PG&E just imposed a new rule that it wants a 3" distance, which could have been a problem. I have no idea how Simply Solar pulled this off, but they got PG&E to agree to timely install the gateway between the solar battery and my main panel to ensure the city inspectors would sign off on the implementation despite my main panel being close to the meter, and it worked. David Frank, the account executive, did a great job of making efficient use of my time when we were discussing what size system to install. He listened attentively and actively and answered my many detailed questions. He has many years of experience and an encyclopedic knowledge of home solar installations. I chose Simply Solar over all the other firms I got bids from because they (1) have a large number of online Yelp and Better Business Reviews, and (2) their average review rating is extremely high, and (3) they offered me the best value for my money out of all the firms I got bids from. When it came time for installation, Simply Solar did not disappoint. Andrew and his team showed up on time and got the solar panels on the roof and the batteries on the wall in less than two days flat and left the worksite spotless. Simply Solar did the install on my HOA-controlled townhouse. Every step was super professional, great communication, and super helpful. They installed 10 panels on my small roof and hooked me up with a 10kwH LG battery for storage (avoid Tesla). I knew the HOA would make me jump through a bunch of hoops, but I authorized Simply Solar to work with them on my behalf, and they handled 90% of the work for me. All the forms, plans, permitting, etc. It was amazing. I got like 8 different quotes from local solar companies. I found slightly cheaper, and a LOT more expensive than Simply Solar too. Simply Solar has a long history in the bay and they use their own installers, not subcontractors. That part is very important. Simply Solar was on the cheaper end, but I felt treated like a much more expensive experience. Don't think anymore. Use Simply Solar! I get no incentive for posting this review, but I am JUST. THAT. Initially, I was pretty pleased to work with them. The sales rep, David, was very responsive and clear about the pros and cons of each option. Also, when I asked him about the experience of working with Palo Alto Utility, he was very confident that and said they have done many projects in our neighborhood. That was the main reason for me to choose Simply Solar because many other installers have said Palo Alto Utility is not easy to work with. Later, he convinced me to go with the Tesla Powerwall 3 system because that's the most advanced system in his opinion. Then my experience with Simply Solar went down from here... After I signed the contract (in June) and the permit went through (in Aug), they said the software for Powerwall 3 is not available until end of Sept. They tried to explain that it is because PA utility doesn't allow the "smart collar" to be installed, which is a big surprise to me! David initially said that's a good reason to go with PW3. Later they told me if I agree to install the Tesla gateway (another $2500) that provides the backup function, then it should work and also provide some critical circuits to be backup. Since I wanted to get the system installed asap before the winter comes, I agreed to opt into the backup system and that requires re-permit on Sept 30th. Two weeks after I signed the change order, they again told me that the Tesla gateway will need a Tesla Remote Meter and it is not available at this moment... Note that more than two months has gone by since the original permit went through and they are still finding new "surprises". When I asked them which option will have the least surprise for this project going forward, they haven't responded for the last couple days... I am not only very frustrated with their lack of experience of working with PA utility but also all the "back-and-forths" and unpredictability. Based on other reviews, I am not sure if my project is just a special case or PA utility is really that difficult to work with. We have used Simply Solar for a couple of projects for our home here in San Jose. We already had a 10 year old Tesla/SolarCity system but we wanted to add battery capacity and additional solar. Simply Solar handled the back and forth with the city well, and had the permits set up in time. David Frank, our sales rep, was a pleasure to work with. However, there were a few delays leading up to the installation because some of the Tesla equipment was backordered, but we ultimately got everything installed. 8kw of additional REC panels and 2 PW3s. There were definitely hiccups during the installation but overall, I would have given it 4 stars. What bumps up my review to 5 stars is that after a few months our existing system started failing and we worked with Jake to get a quick full replacement scheduled and the work was finished in a couple of weeks. We now have close to 20kw of total solar and this time Jake made sure our experience was 5 stars. This is despite having a flood of last minute installations that everyone is scrambling to get done given the solar tax credit ends this year. I think ultimately the mark of a good business is that they work with their existing customers in fixing issues and helping get new work done. I think pricing overall, whilst not the cheapest, is fair. I hope to work with them in case we need any additional work done. read more

I don't recommend this company for any kind of services. They are a nightmare to work with. We recently had to replace our roof to our home. We have had solar panels on the roof prior that were bought and installed by Simply Solar. In our contract with Simply Solar we had a free solar panel removal and re installation. When I first called them on 10/9/24 I was told that they are currently very busy so the lead time for them to take down the panels was 2 weeks. They would take down the panels and re installat as soon as the roofing company was done installing the new roof and inspection was passed. I communicated with the roofing company and had them scheduled for 11/4/24 with a completion/inspection date of 11/12/24 I wanted to give simply solar plenty of time to schedule the crew as I knew they were busy. They were able to take down the panels in a timely manner(day before the scheduled roof install). On 11/12/24 I called Sara which deals with client services to let her know that we passed the roofing inspection and that we were ready for the install. She told me that the crew was so backed up that she can't give me a specific date to when the panels will be reinstalled. A few weeks past and I kept getting the runaround. Blaming the weather/ holidays/ people calling out sick/no staff/the install manager could not get her a definitive answer. A bunch of fluff. When asked to speak to a manager, I was getting the run around as well. Finally on 12/11/24 a crew of two came out and installed the panels. The next day a technician came out to wire everything. Took them 1 month from the time the roofing company finished to re install the panels. On 12/30/24 I reached out via email to Sara to let her know that the panel box is showing error message of "insulation resist check generator". I was told that she would talk to her install manager and schedule someone to come out and fix the issue. She also mentioned that she would would prioritize the issue since our solar has been out since 11/4/24. I have yet to hear back with a scheduled date nor any updates I called them today to speak to a manager or to talk to Jake or Shaw the Managing Partners and was told that they are not available to talk. If you don't want to go through the same nightmare experience as I did please don't use them. There are plenty of other solar companies out there that are responsive and actually take care of their customer. They charged about 40k in 2015 for the installation and because we had to replace the stilts when replacing the roof that the panels were attached to we have to spend another $3400 as that is not included in their free take down/ reinstallation. I know that is a lot of information, but I want to share how bad of an experience I've had with them. Update: 1/13 tech came out to fix the issues. After the job was done, he guaranteed me that the panels are in full working condition. Needless to say they are generating some power but not to full capacity. we have 26 panels on the house and it has full sun this since 1/13. We are currently generating 2.8 KWH per day. I called Sara back to pay the $3400 that I owed for them reinstalling the stanchions for the panels. When I received the invoice, I noticed that they charged an extra $200, so instead of $3400 I paid $3600. I called Sara back the next day. She was very apologetic and mentioned that she would reach out to finance right away and call me back with an update. Days passed with no communication once again. I called 1/16 to check on status. Was told that they would send a check in the mail for a refund. In regards to solar generation Sara mentioned that she was not able to check and see if all solar panels were working properly as she did not have access to the system. She also mentioned that we are on her list of things to follow up on but she has not had a chance to get to it. read more

It is a very well designed system and the installation was flawless. I'm a happy customer and recommend this company strongly. There is quite a range of solar and battery installers out there. Simply Solar was in the middle range in pricing and delivered a high level of service throughout the project. They also offer post installation support, which I think is important. We got solar panels from Simply Solar 3 years ago. Now we needed a new roof, so the panels needed to be removed and put back after installation of the new roof. I reached out in May 23 for an appointment in August 23. They messed up the scheduling so badly that the roofers could not start work. This delayed my new roof by 3 months. Finally the roofers were finished, I gave Simply Solar weeks of notice to come and put the panels back. They kept cancelling on me. It is now December and my panels have been sitting in my garage for 4 months due to their delay. They are still in the garage now. Simply Solar cannot even give me a date when they will come and put them up. Need I point out solar panels in a garage can generate no electricity? Basically the post-sales customer service is horrible. Once they sell you the panels, they just move on. Please go somewhere else for your solar panels. read more

This is a review about Simply Solar's customer service. I am currently contracted with SunPower, who is AWFUL. I have written a full review of my 18 months of Hell with them, so feel free to enjoy that narrative. Out of desperation (and probably sick of hearing my complaints), my friend and general contractor introduced me to Simply Solar just so I could understand my options. I spent an hour with Janet Rumsey, who was so lovely and helpful! Via Zoom, she had me walk her through my current system telling me what all the lights meant, what the breakers were, how I could save money by changing the settings on my backup battery, etc. Ya know, something SunPower should have done. She then went through my PG&E bill, the NEM charges, etc. Thanks to her, I was able to see that my original system was still working and generating some power, even though my SunPower app is inoperable, and explained to me what everything would look like if and when SunPower actually gets their act together to get the rest of the system up and running. Again, something SunPower should have done. In short, big shout out to Janet at Simply Solar who spent an hour with me today, fully knowing she wouldn't get a sale out of it (at least immediately). She is a rock star, and I will happily send any friends who are looking her way. And if I had it to do all over again, I would pick Simply Solar, because SunPower sucks. read more

We had Simply Solar install our system several years ago and from the installation until now, they have been nothing short of terrific. They are knowledgeable, responsive, customer-service oriented and a pleasure to communicate with. A recent power outage was unusual and caused our back-up battery not to come on initially. They came out and tested it and it worked fine, as it did so many times before. They instructed me how to turn off the power completely (which was the issue with PG&E). I tried twice to use Simply Solar. Both times ended in frustration and failure, and the company I hired afterward did a good job without any drama. On the first try Simply Solar told me they could provide a whole package of solar+battery+generator. During negotiation they decided to get out of the generator business (it happens - Got Power is great, by the way), so they submitted a quote for solar+battery, and told me I needed to build a shelter of specific dimensions to house the batteries. Fortunately, before I started construction of the shed I asked Simply Solar's engineering team to confirm certain characteristics of the shed, and was told in reply that what Simply Solar had specified would never work. When I asked to confirm the rest of the project with the engineering team they said the owner would give me a call and make sure the engineering was done correctly. He never called, and I was then told that their engineers were too busy to get involved at the early stages of a project (they had already submitted for permits). I canceled before the likely train wreck, and they gave me back most of my deposit. A couple of months later I came across a different Simply Solar rep who said he would give the project another try and get the engineers involved early. So I signed on again, and Simply Solar quoted the job. This time as we were about to start the job, Simply Solar re-quoted the job, raising the price by around 20%. They said they had not understood certain elements of the project, even though they had acknowledged receipt of drawings showing conditions they claimed ignorance of. Again, job canceled, and this time they gave me all of my money back. The other rep left Simply Solar a month or so later. The reps were always polite. Maybe they have solved their internal processes (which seem to work beautifully for other customers, judging from reviews here). But they were chaos for me. read more

They took over a NEM agreement from a defunct installer and were able to do the same work for significantly less. The preparation process was very straightforward and took about a month from start to end. The installation was incredibly quick, as well: two weeks to wait for an opening that worked with our schedule, and then 1.5 days of work. Essentially, they're not capable of installing solar on tile roofs, despite assuring us that they were. We suffered leaks inside our home and spent months trying to work with them to fix the roof. The management team (C-level) all said the right things, but at the end of the day, we had to replace the roof entirely and pursue action. Damage and tiles were examined by several roof industry experts and a laundry list of issues, including code violations and general sloppy work were found. Even tarping during rain was done sloppily and leaks ensued. Don't listen to the "nice guy" act if you have an issue. Document everything, every request to fix something, every call. Take pictures, snag a cheap drone to video what's going on. I received several messages on my first post from homeowners who'd experienced the same thing that we did. Essentially, they try to drag you on with little concessions and wear you down. Mistakes happen.
