i started our solar project by searching yelp for installers at or near 5 stars with a good number of reviews, and I narrowed it down to the 4 closest to us and requested a quote. Sameer was the most responsive by far of any installer. Moreover, he spec'd out a more robust system than the others, (18 PV Panels + Tesla Powerwall3 / Gateway / EV charger) and still came in at a lower cost. I signed the contract on 7/25, and the work was complete by 8/22, and that included getting approval from the city and our HOA architectural committee. The work only took about 2 1/2 days, and Sameer took care of all the interactions with the city and PG&E, which made things very easy for me. Our HOA required an inspection from the roofing contractor and no serious issues were found there. I contracted SunVault to handle my solar + battery install this year. This is on a flat roof (foam), 18 panels + a powerwall 3. Their quote was very competitive compared to others that I received through energysage and by searching reddit/yelp. They were very professional, showed up when they said they would, cleaned up the worksite before they left for the day and delivered what was promised. I actually had a spot on the roof where some crows had pecked a tennis ball size hole in the foam roof last year. The crew just patched it up while they were up there installing the panels without even asking me. Basically they seem like a company that will treat you fairly as they would want to be treated in return and I appreciate this. I signed the contract on September 11th, 2025, and the entire installation and inspection process was completed on October 29th, 2025. PG&E granted PTO in about a week, on November 5th, 2025. Sunvault handled the entire process with incredible efficiency and smoothness. On the other hand, I had an approved NEM2 application with another solar company that unfortunately went under. The application was then transferred to two other contractors, but all of them were stuck 6 months each in the process and couldn't take over. Sunvault pulled off the entire transfer, permitting, installation, and inspection in just six weeks! If there's an option for rating Sunvault's performance higher, I would give them more than 5 stars! It's one thing to stick to commitments, but it's another level when it comes to how they handle the challenges that arise during a project. I was looking for a solar installer in January this year. I have checked on multiple places including getting quotes on Energy Sage. I stumbled upon a reddit post where multiple people were recommending SunVault so I decided to send them an email for a quote. Sameer was very quick to reply to my email and answered all the questions I included in the initial email as well. He was able to give me a very competitive quotes for the 7kwh solar system with 2x batteries (Enphase) ~ $30k. I had a couple more follow up questions and Sameer gave me a call to answer all of them which was great. I was debating whether to replace my roof since I don't know how old it is and doesn't look like the previous owner pulled a permit for replacing it. Sameer gave me an advice based on pictures I took with my roof that it should be fine to go ahead with solar installation. I called a couple roofing contractors to come out to check the condition of my roof and all were pretty inconclusive about the lifetime left - 5 years - 15 years. Given I don't want to replace my solar system in the next 10 - 15 years, I reached out to Sameer to ask for a roofing replacing quote. For my 1500 sqrt ft unit, the quote was $17k, the 2nd lowest of the 5 roofing contractors I reached out to, so I decided to go ahead and replace the roof with them as well. The start date of my installation was delayed by 2 weeks due to some rainy days which probably delayed Sameer's other projects but that's fine to me because you can't really control the weather. One minor inconvenient thing that will need to be taken into consideration is that - given SunVault looks like a small local business, all the logistics are probably not completely hashed out. Example - for the roof replacement, Sameer reached out to me about 3 days before actual installation and we had a day or 2 to pick the color of our shingles. I'm pretty flexible so I didn't mind this so much but it might matter to some. The project went pretty smoothly. All permits and inspections were taken care of by SunVault. Roof replacement was great, took exactly 3 days where the contractors were working from 8am - 5/6PM. Solar was installed a day later and took about a week for complete PGE integration (SunVault did the NEM 3 application for me too). All the contractors were pretty courteous and attempted to clean up after themselves but there are still definitely some nails and debris lying around afterward that I had to do some more clean up - which I guess they did the best they can and some leftovers are unavoidable. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the installation of the roof and solar. Some minor logistic complications here and there but in the grand scheme of things, SunVault team did a great job! read more

I had a fantastic experience with Sameer and his team. I was comparing prices for solar companies before the NEM 2.0 deadline, and SunVault was very competitive on price. In June 2023, SunVault completed installation of a 11.2kW system consisting of 28 x 400W Q.Peak panels and Enphase IQ8+ inverters. They also include the Enphase consumption monitors (allowing you to see how much power your house is using) as part of their quote -- some installers charge extra for this. As someone new to solar, they did a great job explaining everything and walking me through the process. The system easily passed city inspection. The left side of my roof faces south-east and has a lot of protrusions from plumbing vents, a sun tunnel, and a vent from the hot water system. Two other companies told me they couldn't install panels in this section at all due to the spacing of all the protrusions. SunVault managed to do it and it turned out great. They ran the conduit on the roof rather than in the attic, which is fine for me since my house is two-story and you don't actually see any of the panels from the ground. I had an issue with incorrect consumption data in Enphase's system. SunVault went above and beyond to contact Enphase about it, escalate it to higher ups at the company (when the low-level techs said they couldn't see any issues), and kept contacting them for status updates until the issue was resolved. I really appreciate the amount of effort SunVault put in to ensure my system was operating properly. Enphase's hardware is great but their support is pretty bad. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! After they completed the roof we had another roofing expert examine it and he said it was one of the worst jobs they had ever seen. It was so bad, there were too many issues to fix so we are having another company completely redo the roof. Sunvault is refusing to respond now and we are initiating legal proceedings to hold them accountable for the horrible work they completed. Longer version: We needed to redo the roof on our house and replace an older solar system. We looked at several options and landed on Sunvault due to their good Yelp reviews and their price to complete both of these jobs came in a bit lower than others. Initially communication with Sameer (the owner) was good. They started with the roof tear off and put down some underlayment paper. There was rain coming that night so I confirmed with Sameer that everything was watertight. As the rain started, we had multiple gallons of water pouring through the ceiling of one room and large leaks around skylights in two other rooms. The next morning I went up on the roof and discovered a whole flat section of the roof was totally uncovered. We found out later just the underlayment they had on the roof is insufficient for waterproofing while the job is in progress. Sameer promised this was a totally isolated incident and not an indication of the quality of work. He promised "changes would be made" but the exact same crew continued working on the roof. Since more rain was coming we didn't have an option to switch to another roofer so we let them continue which turned out to be a major mistake. Sameer took responsibility for repairing the damage inside of the house caused by the leaks. It took close to a week for them to complete the demo of the drywall. We had a mold test done and it came back positive for dangerous mold due to the slowness of removing the wet plaster and drywall. Sameer found a drywall crew to repair the drywall which took close to a month and was very disruptive to our living environment. All of this was totally avoidable with some simple waterproofing. As the roof job continued I noticed several mistakes and general sloppiness. The roof vents were so misaligned I could see daylight through them in the attic. They forgot the take the sticker off a skylight and they were not well aligned in the openings. There was water pooling in one corner of the roof. The slope of the shingles flattened toward the edges but they didn't install a waterproof membrane underneath. I continued to bring up these issues and they would do the minimum they could to fix it. It was clear they just didn't care. I felt like I had to watch them like a hawk to ensure they weren't making careless mistakes. The solar install went mostly smoothly but there were a few small issues such as lack of labeling and incorrect breakers that were found at inspection time. As the roof was completed, I had a bad feeling that there were other mistakes I couldn't see. A few months later I had a roofing expert come inspect the roof. He was absolutely shocked at the quality of the job, calling it as bad of a job as he had ever seen. He was amazed it was done by professional roofers and looked more like handymen just winging it. He said "roofing isn't that complicated but they somehow did almost everything wrong". He listed a litany of errors that were perversive to the whole job. For example, there were flashings around the skylights that were not even attached. There were so many problems that going in and fixing them would take about as much work as just replacing the roof. There also may be other problems that were not visible that would someday cause a leak. The only way to have peace of mind would be to replace the whole roof so this is what we will be doing. I contacted Sameer with all of this asking them to take responsibility for this terrible work. He has refused to respond to repeated emails and texts. We have been left with no choice but to initiate legal proceeding to try to recover some of these costs. I learned during this process that Sunvault is just a side hustle for Sameer. He has a full time job at Meta working in finance. He is not a roofing expert and has learned solar on the side. It's clear he just hires cheap labor to complete the job with no supervision and he lacks the knowledge to even recognize how bad the roofing work is. This review is one year in the making.....Meaning I went from thinking about installing solar to choosing eight local solar companies (and their products), to compare and contrast their offerings and quotes. I live in Aptos and thought choosing a local company might be best....But the two that I chose, came in with a quote higher than I expected. So I expanded my search to solar companies in/around Santa Clara valley. Glad I did. The average quote of the remaining six companies was $14K less than the two local companies. It was a drawn-out process as I tried to be sure the products were identical or comparable in quality and cost....I finally decided on Sunvault Solar and so glad I did. Sameer was quick to respond via email and answered any question that I had. I ended up going with 16-460 Rec panels and 2-Enphase 5 kw batteries and Sameer's quote was by far the best of the remaining six companies (note: I asked each company if I wanted to add another panel or battery, what would be the cost (per item) and I was surprised that for the same panel, there was over $1k difference per panel or $4k difference for an additional battery). The higher quotes on the extra piece parts actually corresponded with each of the higher quotes that I had received for the entire system from the six finalists. So right there, you could see where their margins were coming from.....The Sunvault Solar installers did a great job and put the system in in two days. The final inspection passed a week later and it's cool to see my electrical useage from PG&E be reduced to almost nothing!!! Sameer and his team were amazing. We got a 6.15 kW system with 3 enphase 5p batteries (15 kWh). From the get go, I got detailed communication from Sameer. No pushy sales tactics - just direct thorough quick communication. Sameer answered a lot of questions I had, unlike any other solar contractor I contacted. I got over 12 quotes total. Sameer's quote was the best which obviously helps but what made me choose him over everybody else was how much time he spent with me even before I had decided to go with them - it was technical discussion (because I like to know the details of the system and what I am getting into in detail). I learned a lot from him and not once did he try to push the sale. Once I signed the contract, within a week he submitted the drawings and the permit application as he had promised. Permitting process took a while but that was just the processing time at the city and once that was done Sameer was in touch with me via texts about the install. We had an excellent experience with Sunvault (Sameer and team) installing a 8.1 KW system. As a part of a big remodel we were looking to add Solar. While the actual install would happen in 2024 we wanted to get an accurate application in before the NEM 2.0 deadline passed. We got a few quotes from different vendors, not only was Sunvault's quote best but I was very impressed by their openness and responsiveness. I usually don't write Yelp reviews but I decided to take some time out to write a review for Sunvault Solar. With rising PGE bills every month, we finally decided we get solar installed on our property. While chatting with our neighbors (who also went with Sunvault), I got Sameer's reference. Sameer is the owner of the company and does not have a sales team, so once you reach out you would be chatting with him from start to finish. Almost all the projects that he does are through referrals/word of mouth. Sameer is extremely proactive with his responses and very knowledgeable about solar and this industry. As a consumer, you should definitely do your due diligence and reach out to multiple vendors to get different quotes (which I did), but Sameer was the only one who was very prompt and quick to respond back. I do have some shading on my roof and one of the vendors refused to even provide me with a quote, stating that they will not work with us due to the shading! Sameer was quick to get some details from us, PGE data for the last one year and gave us an estimate with ROI and system size to meet our demands. After getting some similar estimates from other vendors, I decided to move forward with Sameer, as his pricing was the most competitive. Sameer's team is extremely professional and diligent. They were super efficient and the installation was done in less than 2 days! One of my main criteria for this installation was that I wanted to get it done by the end of July, since I was heading out of the country on vacation. We had a great experience working with Sunvault for our solar installation, and would highly recommend Sameer and his team to anyone. If you're thinking about going solar, you need to move _fast_. That's because how net-metering works is about to change significantly -- and unfavorably -- very soon in California. When you have solar, you overproduce electricity during the day when the sun is shining, and send energy into the grid in exchange for credit. Then, when you need more energy than you can produce -- at night, on rainy days, etc. -- you draw energy from the grid, using up your credit. The current rules -- "NEM 2.0" -- say that the energy you export to the grid is worth as much as the energy you import, which means you essentially use the grid as your giant battery -- you store energy there when you have extra, and draw energy when you need it, for basically no cost! Under these rules, there's really no reason to own additional batteries yourself, unless you really care about energy independence. These rules are very (too?) favorable for solar owners. But the rules are about to change. Under "NEM 3.0", the credit for energy you export will be worth much lower than the energy you import, so it will be much harder for your exports to cover your imports without also having your own battery. The new rules will also impose significant fixed cost just for _owning_ a solar system, regardless of whether you are a net exporter or importer. This makes residential solar much less desirable, and pushes the payback period from 5-6 years to 12-15 years. I do think NEM 2.0 is too favorable for solar owners, but NEM 3.0 will pretty much kill any incentives to go solar. The good news is that if you are already on NEM 2.0, then you will be grandfathered for 15-20 years, even after NEM 3.0 goes into effect. The bad news is, while no one is sure when NEM 3.0 will go into effect or what its final form will take, it is expected to happen some time in early 2023. So, the race is on and the clock is ticking! If you want solar, you need to get it installed and operational before NEM 3.0 goes into effect, so you can be grandfathered in with NEM 2.0! I looked into many options when choosing installers. The national players like Tesla Solar tend to have the lowest quotes by far. But they also have very bad customer service (just read the reviews and horror stories), and they're often booked many months out. When I inquired in July, they said they wouldn't be able to get to mine till the end of the year, and that's if things went perfectly smoothly. That's cutting it too close to me; I wanted to be operational ASAP. I got several quotes from local installers, and decided to go with Sameer and SunVault. His quote was very competitive, and he was very knowledgeable and responsive when we talked through my concerns and needs. He's also the owner -- not a salesperson -- so you're dealing with someone who will oversee the entire operation, including showing up at installation and inspection. This gave me more confidence that I wouldn't be left hanging or chasing down the right person. But the best part is -- Sameer's team moved _fast_. My timeline was: 7/27 - contract signed 8/2 - engineering plans designed 8/17 - permit approved (Fremont takes a while!) 8/22 - installation 8/26 - Inspection (passed easily) 9/2 - permission to operate received So, from contract signed to operational only took less than six weeks! This is basically as fast as possible, with most of the time spent waiting for city permitting and inspection. I was amazed! On installation day, the crew was also great. They took good care of my roof and did things the right way. The electrician also took pains to run the conduit as efficiently as possible, even though it took him a lot more time and effort to do so. The outcome looked great and worked great! In the bay area, with ample sunshine and rising electricity rates, it pretty much always makes sense to go solar... if you can get in before NEM 3.0 starts! So if you're interested, you need to move fast now. And if you want to be sure you make it in time, go with SunVault! read more
