The old panels were dismantled and by the end of May my new system was in place and up and running. In addition to Alex, who led the project, I met the team of three, led by Mikey, who completed the installation. For anyone either new to solar systems or looking to replace an old one, I highly recommend Cobalt Power Systems for three reasons. (1) Time will tell, but I would say product quality is excellent. (2) Alex provided me with accurate and reasonable cost estimates, so I know what to expect. He also offered payment options. (3) Everyone on the team was a good communicator--ready to answer my questions and accommodate my travel schedules. The funniest thing happened on the first installation date--it rained! The team cheerfully used the time to help me clear out my garage, put the new panels in my garage and organize them so they are ready to use. I contracted them for a 12.78 kW solar array and two Tesla Powerwalls. Cobalt completed the project on time and exactly per the contract. The installation crew was excellent. I chose Cobalt for their flexibility on panel and Powerwall placement. I also liked the equipment they provided. They used 30 Maxeon Solar Technologies panels. These panels are superior. They carry an industry-leading 40-year product and performance warranty. This warranty is significantly longer than the typical 25-year standard. I paid a premium price for this quality. The system designer made great recommendations on the size of my array and using Powerwalls versus expansion packs. My main issue was communication. It was difficult to reach the Project Manager regarding the installation start date and follow-up questions. Once contact was established, they provided the needed information quickly. I recommend them for their professional designer, installation team, and quality equipment. Be prepared for slow communication from the Project Manager about the start date. Most of the advertised…read moreSunPower "repair" contractors we contacted seemed more focused on selling a complete system replacement--including roof tear-out and battery backup--rather than offering practical repair options. With our NEM-1 ending in July 2026 and NEM-3 beginning in August, we wanted to explore all viable options. Infinium Solar sales, Jacob Sleep, offered a compatible inverter solution over the phone and the first and only to conduct a thorough on-site inspection of our aging system. Infinium recommended a 5kW inverter (10-year warranty) compatible with our positive-ground SunPower 18-panel array (SPR-220), along with a 15kWh FranklinWH battery (15-year warranty) to prepare for the NEM-3 transition. He also presented an option to upgrade to 12 REC Alpha Pure-RX 460 panels (25-year warranty) but importantly noted that our existing panels appear to be in good condition and could continue performing well beyond their 25-year warranty. That honesty was appreciated. After inspecting our UniRac rails and mounts, Jacob confirmed a full tear-out was unnecessary. He explained that the REC panels could be installed on the existing rails, though a few inches of rail would extend beyond the panel edges. Unlike other contractors, Infinium provided four clear, well-explained options: 1. Replace the failed inverter and upgrade wiring with rapid shutdown devices for the existing panels. 2. Add a 15kWh Franklin battery to the above setup. 3. Install a 15kWh Franklin aPower S hybrid battery/inverter system with required wiring upgrades for the existing panels. 4. Fully modernize the system with a Franklin aPower S hybrid battery/inverter, MAC and meter collar, and 12 REC Alpha Pure-RX 460 panels-- utilizing the existing rails. We chose option 4 to upgrade our solar system with battery back-up. We appreciate Infinium's responsiveness, practical approach, transparency, and willingness to present multiple solutions rather than pushing a full system replacement. Infinium's thorough evaluation and honest recommendations made a complex decision much easier - especially in the absence of the 30% federal tax credit. When we installed our SunPower system 25 years ago the timeline from signed contract to final install was less than 6 weeks including San Jose inspections. We were very dismayed at the current solar system installation timeline. Contract signed June 19th, System operational on September 8th. The Infinium technicians were very adept and efficient - no time wasted. Using the existing conduits, racks, mounts, etc. made the task a lot easier. Stephanie Jacques, the Operations scheduler, advised, guided and followed up with us on the schedule. Everything dealing with the removal, installation and final sign-off seemed to revolve around her. Our timeline was as follows: 06/18/2026 Initial contact with Infinium via phone call/web inquiry 06/18/2026 Same day, sales, Jacob Sleep, inspected our 25-year-old SunPower system 06/19/2026 Contract signed, deposit sent 06/22/2026 Project administrator assigned, conveyed that we wanted the system ASAP 07/07/2026 SunPower system removal - took less than 2.5 hours 07/08/2026 Site survey - photos taken of proposed battery location and current solar layout 07/10/2026 Stucco repaired where inverter, shutoff boxes located. Not great work, had a stucco contractor tidy it up. 07/14/2026 Design phase - 10 days? Existing system! I asked for it to be expedited 07/20/2026 Signed off design 08/12/2026 REC-460 panels installed, overhanging rails cut, PV wiring routed through existing conduit 08/19/2026 FranklinWH aPower S, battery bracket (city) inspection and installation. System is fully installed - PG&E needs to install the meter socket adapter (MSA) - a 10 day window! Also, after PG&E installs the MSA, then the battery comes online and is commissioned by an Infinium tech and final city inspection. 08/28/2026 PG&E installed the MSA 09/08/2026 Inspection scheduled 6-8 weeks ago. FINALLY! We have solar power again! Note: Unfortunately, the city supervisor came out and asked a lot of questions. Dimitri, Infinium battery commissioning guru, patiently answered all the questions. Generally, a 5-10 minute inspection turned into a greater than 30-minute questions and answers session. Bottom Line: Would I use Infinium again? Very likely. The process took longer than expected, but most of that was tied to design, permitting, PG&E, and city inspections. Infinium was the only contractor that seriously discussed repairing our existing system before proposing replacement options. They evaluated what could be reused, what needed to be upgraded, and provided several alternatives with the associated costs and tradeoffs

They are incredibly thorough. For example, when our original REC panels couldn't be sourced due to a production shortage, they quickly pivoted to Maxeon panels. Zach actually came out to measure my roof twice just to guarantee the new layout would fit perfectly, and they recalculated our system's capacity to ensure we got the best setup. A couple of minor issues came up along the way, but this is where their customer service really shined: During installation: A wire was left exposed instead of inside a conduit. When I pointed it out, Zach didn't hesitate--he immediately offered a great alternate solution to run the communication line seamlessly through the crawl space. The rest of the crew's work was impeccable, highly professional, respectful of our property, and finished right on time. Post-installation: A few months later, a communication issue caused the system to stop seeing loads from the main panel. I requested urgent help, and they had a team at my house within one business day. They worked directly with Tesla to get it promptly resolved. I am a little overdue for writing this review. I got solar installed last year by Freedom and the…read moreprocess was pretty painless and I have had no problems with the hardware they installed. After talking to one installer I decided that it was required for whoever I gave my project to that I wanted them to be NABCEP certified (so that you can be sure they know what they are doing). Freedom passed this check. The other thing that put Freedom in the upper tier of consideration is that they were recommended by the guys who installed my roof (and did an awesome job). I felt confident that my roof would not be leaking after the install. The hardest part for me was deciding how many panels to install. 8 would cover my current needs, and 16 would likely cover me if I replaced by water heater and central heater with heat pumps, but it is unclear exactly when these systems might fail. So I split the difference at 12 and am still comfortable that that is the right choice for me (it is going to be at least 5 years before I replace one of them). Due to the NetMetering 2.0 deadline last year I was only able to get two quotes for a 12 panel solution. Freedom Solar was significantly below the other quote and they passed my other requirements so I pulled the trigger and signed a contract with them. Due to the backlog of installs of people trying to beat the aforementioned deadline they set my expectations realistically. But due to things out of their control they were able to move me up the queue by several months. Cool. The install went as planned (there was one problem but that one was on me). This was completed in 2 days, and turned on shortly later by PG&E. 15 months later the system is still working with no problem, and no leaks in my roof. And it sure is nice paying $0 to PG&E for electricity every month... My overall impressions: Responsive company, low-pressure sales, very good communications, and they do quality work.
