We have had an Enphase solar installation for 10 years now, which has always worked beautifully…read more However, due to regular PG&E outages in our area (Fremont, CA), we decided to add a backup battery to the system. After careful research, we chose Highlight Solar (HS) to handle this installation. We chose the Franklin battery, and Highlight Solar came out to handle the installation in Nov 2025. Sadly, we had some serious issues with the functionality of our solar infrastructure, after the Franklin equipment was installed... the Enphase solar monitoring device (called Envoy) started having trouble communicating with the panels, and therefore would disable them. HS made a couple of different attempts to fix this issue (which was delayed when they went on vacation for a month), so I had to keep cycling the breaker for the panels every morning to get the system working for another day. Fortunately, they were persistent in pursuing the issue, and after returning from vacation in late January, Samir came out and spent a couple of hours on the phone with Enphase support, who suggested a possible solution for this issue. HS then had someone come out to implement Enphase's suggestion, and now my system is working solidly and reliably (Feb 2026). I'm glad HS didn't just give up on us; I'm sure they were just as frustrated as we were by this situation. We certainly didn't expect this to take three months to resolve, but it is working now.

We asked a LOT of questions, then we asked more, and then some more. Ali, our salesman, remained patient and communicated thoroughly via email or phone, and at all hours even after we had signed the paperwork. The installation process was honestly better than the sales process. The combination of Chris (the foreman who found a solution for all our requests) and his team which worked in awful weather to get our project installed on schedule were amazing. Our inspection, and final handoff were handled by Samir, who answered even more questions, and made sure we were fully set up. From end to end we had a great experience with Highlight Solar and will recommend them as they were to us. Pro tips: If you get a battery you will need to store it until it is installed. Your solar data might not show up on the app for 24-48 hours after installation...don't panic, it will show up eventually and you will see the money you are not spending with PG&E.

The company took down existing panels when we changed our roof and replaced the array with the same number of panels but with one-third higher efficiency. During the one week down time, my remaining panels were generating. The second time was when a panel on a different array had increasing glass crack damage and Edgar was able to replace the single unit. In both cases Edgar was very professional, clear in his communication, helpful in his options, reasonable in his pricing, and timely in his availability. In both cases Enphase was contacted by him to verify if the monitoring station gave a positive acknowledgment on connection. This is a very useful and important step. The latency on the user mobile app update could mean you don't get feedback for hours. But with direct monitoring feedback (a professional installer must call) you know it's good immediately. Maintaining a system sometimes needs small jobs. Yes, sometimes big ones too. Due to live voltage this needs a professional. I highly recommend Edgar at Solar Care & Electric for your ongoing solar array maintenance needs.

My electricity bills are now incredibly low to practically non-existent, and I couldn't be happier with the overall results. Sheryl and Zach were fantastic to work with from start to finish. They are incredibly thorough. For example, when our original REC panels couldn't be sourced due to a production shortage, they quickly pivoted to Maxeon panels. Zach actually came out to measure my roof twice just to guarantee the new layout would fit perfectly, and they recalculated our system's capacity to ensure we got the best setup. A couple of minor issues came up along the way, but this is where their customer service really shined: During installation: A wire was left exposed instead of inside a conduit. When I pointed it out, Zach didn't hesitate--he immediately offered a great alternate solution to run the communication line seamlessly through the crawl space. The rest of the crew's work was impeccable, highly professional, respectful of our property, and finished right on time. Post-installation: A few months later, a communication issue caused the system to stop seeing loads from the main panel. I requested urgent help, and they had a team at my house within one business day. They worked directly with Tesla to get it promptly resolved. Solar is a huge investment, and you want a company that doesn't just disappear after they cash your check. Sheryl, Zach, and their team are reliable, prompt, and stand by their work. Highly recommended!

Our gas water heater went out in January and I went down the rabbit hole in researching water…read moreheaters and installers. I also considered the DIY route, but there a lot of incentives that are for contractors only. Many contractors don't share these incentive discounts at all with the customers, or share only half begrudgingly if you inquire. While there a lot of incentives for heat pump water heaters, most installers just jacked up the prices so the end cost to the consumer is about the same cost as prior to the incentives being available. Fortunately, SunWork passes along all the incentives which made it cheaper to go with SunWork instead of DIY (and a lot less stress). SunWork came highly recommended in my internet sleuthing. Reuben contacted me and we got some quotes and a date penciled in 6 weeks out (the earliest available, so book early!). There were other vendors available right away but I'm glad we waited it out for SunWork. Aside from their mission as a nonprofit for making climate action more financially feasible, Reuben is extremely knowledgeable and skilled, great at explaining options, patient and open to (although wary) when I was initially thinking of trying a new water heater that just entered the market a couple months ago instead of going with his recommendation (I did end up deferring to his recommended brand), and they did an A+ clean job on install! The invoice was nicely itemized and transparent, and Reuben was great about getting all the incentive applications and programs set up. I regretfully was out of town but my partner was on-site for the install and sat in as Reuben led and walked through the install with the volunteers. Can't thank Reuben and SunWork for enough for this exceptional experience. Hope they expand to Heat Pump A/C sometime in the future?

In both cases I have been very happy with their work, and the prices were very affordable (helps that they are a non-profit). The HPWH ended up costing less after incentives than a gas WH twenty years ago. They also promptly replaced a microinverter when it failed. They take time to explain things and answer questions. And they were thorough about details, unlike some contractors who do the bare minimum, demand payment, and disappear. The only minor negative- they *only* do solar and heat pump water heaters at this point. I had to do a little carpentry on my own to reinforce the roof before they put up panels. Even then, they explained clearly what was needed and basically how to do it. In conclusion- I would strongly recommend SunWork for either of these kind of projects.

Btw I was going to bump this review to a 4 but working with Nick we decided on 5.** We had a complicated full house renovation this year and signed with Clean Solar for either the Tesla tiles or solar panels and we ended up choosing solar panels + Tesla power walls. I want to give special thanks (and the only reason why I didn't give a 0 star) and appreciation to the members listed as they deserved beyond 5 stars Bill, Nick, Jeremy, Rodger, Louis, Kevin, Albert, Alberto, Carl (CEO). Bill was amazing and helpful in explaining the process and helping us secure the initial funding. You are probably wondering why I am giving this solar company a 3 star. Well it takes 1 bad apple to ruin a team and this is the case. A three day project ended up taking 3+ weeks & we understand that the workload is extremely busy this time of year. However when 1 person is acting unprofessional, crossing the line, asking homeowners to borrow a usb cable to charge their cell phone, super loud, tries to impress (why), doesn't listen to clients (would walk away in mid conversation), act as if he is the owner of the company, talks way too much (not in a good way), talking about his side hustle business, a bit juvenile, not completing and complaining about the job in front of clients plus not showing up when he said he would to complete the job, leaving tools at the site and asking the homeowners to put it in their garage until he returns to pick it up, calls in sick last minute leaving the load to other team members plus more well then this becomes a problem and 0 stars (if possible) especially the amount of money you invest into this project. We also requested that this person not show up again but they kept sending him back. At the end of the project half of the Tesla walls were connected and working but the other half wasn't connecting. At one point our bedrooms electricity didn't work, it wasn't the breakers and Nick was awesome enough to take our after hours call and help us manually override those other 2 disconnected wall panels. The dream team (Nick, Kevin and Albert) resolved the connection and all is working now. Also, Nick stayed late to make sure our Tesla walls were configured and updated properly. Plus , a shout out to Jeremy for staying late as well to help fix a broken issue. Feedback: Organize a team that works well together to effectively complete the project. Provide sexual harassment training (this is excluding people listed here). If a female client doesn't feel comfortable with a person don't resend them back. Also if a homeowner (regardless of being the wife) calls and leaves a message please out of courtesy call back after all I am the client, work and pay the bills too (even though this is my husband's project).
