I give thus place 2 stars because the waiter was lovely. beyond that not goof at all. Music was blasting and from the looks of the place, which had that take out feel it appeared to be an inexpensive restaurant. Boy we were wrong! The bill came too over 50 dollars for 2 people with no drinks for 3 soft she'll tacos that had absolutely no taste whatsoever. My mother did say the rice and beans were exceptional however to pay that price just for rice and beans that taste good which costs pennies to make is criminal. If you want decent Mexican with some ambiance go to Maya Cafe instead. Heck even taco bell! read more

Slowest service ever. Table of four only given one menu. Asked the waitress if guacamole was made fresh and was told it was. Upon tasting the guacamole I can promise you it's pre-made and disgusting ( we sent it back). Chips were stale and salsa was gross. Rice and beans were terrible! How do you mess up rice and beans? What a pleasant surprise!! Exhausted after a day of travel, with a load of dirty laundry yet to do, we found a nice clean laundromat.....now: where to grab dinner? We found Cilantro a few doors down!! I expected a burrito or tacos....Boy was I surprised!!! After the gymnastics meet next door 15 of us went to this place, 5 kids and parents. The food here is very tasty..! We tried this place instead of Café Maya, which was packed. It's a smallish restaurant located in a strip mall. At 6:00pm on a Friday, the place was empty. We were immediately seated, and the waiter was attentive and friendly. Salsa and chips came out, and menus were produced. Right off, they have a pretty extensive menu for such a small place. I honestly did not like the salsa; it was fresh and home-made, but very sweet with large chunks of mango in it, and not spicy at all. It was more like a chutney. I like to add salsa to my meal, but this didn't do. I ordered a chipotle chicken chimichanga, which was served with black beans, yellow rice, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. The changa was huge, big enough for any appetite, fresh, and was smothered with melted jack cheese. Very, very good. The black beans were also home made, definitely not canned, and the rice was fluffy and tasty. My wife ordered steak fajitas, and for the first time anywhere, the waiter asked how she wanted the steak cooked. It came out on a sizzling cast iron platter, and to my surprise the steak was rare, as she ordered it. The portions in this place are quite generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Dinner for two, with tax, tip, and a couple of beers was $60. Not bad at all, if you're in the mood for staple Mexican specialties. read more

I knew we were in trouble when the salsa and chips arrived. It was chunky like Stew and sugar sweet. The guacamole tasted like it came from a jar. We opted for steak fajitas to play it safe. They were obviously cooked in a pot on the stove and spooned into a traditional dish. Not only did they not come out sizzling, but they can in a broth threatening to run over the sides of the cast iron dish. If you like Mexican Taco Bell is a better option read more

I'm shocked at the 2 star reviews below... REALLY?? Are these people working for the competition or something? lol! This is THE BEST Mexican Restaurant in the Fishkill area... of this I am convinced because I tried several others and they don't even come CLOSE! The food is just sooooooooooooooo good! Everytime I go out to eat I gravitate towards this place because the food is just the best! The atmosphere is very nice, the inside is clean and new, very nice decor... not so stuffy that you have to dress up, but a LOT nicer a cleaner than your average chain restaurant. The waitresses are always nice and the service is great. The best part is the food, the ingredients always taste so fresh, and the care and quality is so obvious. I always get the Chicken Burrito and it's the tastiest burrito ever. I've also had the quesadilla, tacos, sandwiches, and one thing is better than the other! The nice thing on top of everything is the PRICE! This place has got to be one of the cheapest nice resaurants ever. I mean nowadays you pay like $7-8 for fast food drive thru, and a sandwich at Cilantro is $6.50 with a burrito or quesadilla at around $8. REALLY??? And you will be licking the plate when it's over. The size is big too, I usually can't finish the whole thing and I take some home. To wrap up, you have to try this! Don't listen to the haters. This restaurant serves some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Specially for Dutchess county. I'm really surprised at the reviews on here. My husband and I eat here at least twice a week. First off the place is quaint and intimate. Some of our favorite dishes are the Salmon a la Rosa, Enchiladas de Mole and Pollo Sol y Arena. The sauces on these dishes are to die for and the portions are huge. Their steak burrito has delicious chunks ofsmoky steak and it's only 8.99!!! The service is very good. The waitresses are friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. Definitely give this place a try. It should be in a different location where it would be more visible. read more

I am from Long Beach, Ca and just relocated to Fishkill. I have been missing the taco stands on every other corner in my hometown since arrival. I was excited and relieved when I found this spot right around the corner from my house after trying Cafe Maya and learning I would pay 17 dollars for a 3 taco plate. I am used to dollar tacos, street vendors and authentic Mexican food in abundance. I was thrilled when I found Cilantro because there are 2 by the same name in Long Beach that I used to frequent. This place sucks as far as I am concerned and is clearly unrelated to those in Long Beach. Their Al Pastor is clearly pan fried and not roasted on a spit with pineapple, they used white Mexican rice that was tasteless with canned vegetables and black beans in their 10 dollar burritos. The Carne Asada burrito didn't seem to be Carne at all, it looked like ground beef cut with a filler, tofu or maybe some soy paste (I don't really know) and the Carnitas tacos were dry as hell with huge chunks of onions and cilantro that didn't appear that any effort was made to chop at all. Nobody in my household finished their burritos and the tacos were never even opened. The chips and salsa that was served to me while I waited for my 51 dollar order of 3 burritos, 2 tacos and 2 bottles of Jarritos were no way made in house. The chips were bland and thin- red, white and blue. The salsa, and I am only guessing here, had to be Tapatio with huge chunks of tomato and onion, again no fine chopping, nothing spicy about any of the food. It sucked in the worst way possible and have earned this review. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be Sonora style or southwestern style but it all around sucked. They do have a bar with over 50 tequilas and 3 flat screen Televisions that had soccer on all 3 simultaneously for the 2 other patrons. I am sure the TV's and the Tequila bar is why they are still in business. Too bad I am not a drinker-I bet any food would taste like magic in my mouth after I was rip roaring drunk on Tequila. We eat here often. Both eat in and take out. The food is always delicious even if the staff is sometimes a little to new to really get the hang of things. They have some regular staff that are outstanding. The prices are reasonable and there is a great selection. It would be nice if they bought the draft beer back but they have a good selection of bottled beer and of course tequila and liquor. There is bar seating and tables. Suitable for families or a quiet night out. The only thing about the setup is the bar is not separate from the dining area but it's not a "hang out" bar so no noisy bar crowds or offensive behavior for children to witness. Lunch and dinner menus are basically the same just more expensive for dinner. read more

It was good and I would go back. I was very hesitant to dine at Cilantro after so many negative reviews but it was a good meal, had leftovers, and price was good too. Chips and salsa came right out to the table. We ordered guacamole to start...if you don't like spicy, ask them to make it without the jalepenos. I'm a guacamole purist and I didn't like the extra spice. We ordered steak soft tacos and shrimp fajitas. It's true that our fajitas didn't come out sizzling from the kitchen (as other reviewers have mentioned) but the flavor was nice. Steak on the soft tacos was very tender and cooked well. Steak soft tacos came with a variety of sauces but I stuck with pico de gallo. read more

We decided to try Cilantro the Friday night before Christmas and arrived at 7:00. There was one large table with about twelve people and maybe about three other tables with two to three people. We got our drinks right away and the chips and salsa. They were both very good and then things went down hill slowly. I noticed a table who was close to us very unhappy and found out fifteen minutes and another bowl of chips later why. The waitress was telling them their food would be right out. Since we were already there for twenty minutes we knew we were in trouble. So after sitting and waiting for Mexican food for forty five minutes I pretty much had enough ! NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO WAIT FORTY FIVE MINUTES FOR MEXICAN FOOD ! I put my coat on and asked for the check for the drinks...the food arrived just as I walked up to the bar. They took off one round of drinks..we had two. Service could have been better ..I guess after a while they were afraid to come to the tables. The food was not even close to being good enough to compensate for the wait. What a shame since the place is right down the road from where we live. First and last time for us. read more

Unbelievably horrible food. The complimentary salsa and chips that came to the table were a harbinger of things to come. So was the fact that we were the ONLY patrons there on a Sunday afternoon. I have never tasted such terrible salsa in my life. The most common Mexican staple-so simple and easy to make.-had an acrid/sweet strange tasting tomato juice base, no seasoning, no cilantro flavor, barely any onion- it just didn't taste like salsa. The seltzer water I ordered had such a strange "off" taste to it. The chipotle chicken quesadilla I ordered had a very strange canned type chicken in it- and I didn't detect any smokiness or chipotle flavor whatsoever. We also waited considerably long for one burrito, one quesadilla- we were the only people there-I wonder what they do when they have a few tables filled? maybe that explains the ridiculously long waits I heard about in prior reviews.I've never heard about the restaurant before-I've lived in Fishkill for several years....I will admit to being somewhat of a food snob-I have a picky palate, that loves good flavors...that being said, I am certain that even non-picky eaters will find this food to be really disappointing. I am shocked that they've stayed open for as long as they have. They should pare down the menu, get the basics down, and make tasty food.
