We are here at my favorite restaurant. It is Mexican but I simply love their food. Service is very good. We sit down and we are greeted. She brings us chips and salsa, a bit spicy. We look through the menu, I have to go for my favorite dish (salmon à la Rosa), it comes with rice and beans, which I exchange for salad. Alex is the owner, very nice. Cilantro Mexican Restaurant is one of those local hidden gems that I can't believe more people don't go to. It's not fancy, but that's part of the charm. The vibe is comfortable, friendly, and very local. You really get that neighborhood restaurant feeling. The food was excellent. They start with complimentary chips and homemade salsa -- fresh with a little spicy kick at the end. We had the chicken burrito, chicken quesadilla, and pork tacos, and everything was delicious. The pork taco has a slightly gamey flavor, which I personally loved, but if you don't like that taste, I'd recommend chicken instead. I do wish you could mix and match different taco fillings, and the restaurant is a little on the rougher/less-clean side, but honestly, neither took away from the overall experience for me. As always amazing food, Cilantro is the best, we tried a couple of new ones in the business, big mistake, nothing will surpass Cilantro. As always , no soon you are seated that the waiter will bring a big bowl of salsa with colorful and yummy chips, they will replenish as long as you ask. Granted the decor doesn't match the quality of the food, but who cares ! Alex the chef, never fails, his food is consistent. I had the Quesabirria, new in the menu, ABSOLUTLY delicious, served with guacamole/ sour cream/ pico de gallo, of course served with his delicious rice and beans. Our gala New Year celebration. We've seen the Ball come down, worn the glasses with the year as frames in bad weather and all the other New Year parties in hotel ballrooms, with open bars and free food! This is our speed now. As always; Alex the Chef, owner, and at times the waiter did an outstanding job! Tried the chuleta diablo. It's three bone in pork chops grilled and covered with a spicy sauce, it comes with a house salad and rice and black beans. It's very filling! The place is always clean. Service is impeccable. Our large group came for dinner. The staff are so nice and helpful although the place can use a little updating. For apps we ordered the jalapeño poppers, potato skins and guacamole with chips. My fave were the potato skins because they were loaded with cheese. Nice gooey cheese. The poppers were good but seemed to me like they're frozen from Sam's. I still liked them tho. The guacamole was good and there was hardly anything left for the grown ups after the kids tore through it. I ordered the enchiladas verde. They were really good and spicy. I was surprised to get four enchiladas stuffed with chicken as a meal. Needless to say, plenty of food. It came with yellow rice and back beans which were delicious. Several people got the steak burritos and steak quesadillas--they were on point, I actually liked them better than my own dinner. It's a must have. My son said they were the best ever and he is not kidding. We ordered margaritas and they were on the weak side fyi. I'll take a star for that. Again the service is amazing. Very disappointed! I ordered Chicken Floutas, and I told the gentleman on the phone I wanted a Flouta plate, which online it said comes with rice, beans, and salad. Then I ordered a side of Salsa and chips. I was not charged for the salsa and chips, so I assumed it was complimentary. I still tipped. When I got home, I tried my salsa and chips, and it was okay, but the salsa was too sweet. I had never eaten a sweet salsa before, and I could not eat more than four chips because the sweetness was not enjoyable. When I looked into the bag, I saw my 4 Chicken floutas, but no rice, beans, or salad. I was disappointed! I now assume it wasn't ready, and they gave me the salsa and chips for free. I'm not sure, but now I know if I ever come back, I need to speak more therally about my orders. The chicken floutas tasted good on the outside, but the chicken was flavorless. So I do not recommend getting anything with chicken because it seems to be their standard chicken style. read more

My husband picked up food and it seemed very promising, but sadly I was very disappointed! The chicken in all the dishes we ordered (quesadillas, soft tacos, enchilada) was merely boiled with salt and completely bland. There was absolutely no seasoning and you can see the bland white chicken in the photos. For a Mexican restaurant, I was definitely expecting more flavor. The enchilada was covered in a specialty poblano sauce but it was a miss for us- it has a spicy kick but it was sweet with an odd flavor. The guacamole was another miss for me, because of the jelly consistency and lack of flavor -perhaps it's better when you dine in. The rice and beans were good! What a quaint little place. I went on a Friday night. The place was pretty busy. Drinks were good and I was pleasantly surprised with the food. I had the chile rellenos con pollo. It is flavorful with a good amount of shredded chicken. The chile had a nice bite to it so it wasn't overcooked. You get two chiles and the portion is generous. I heard their mole sauce is popular and it was very good. The tacos looked amazing too. The best part? They give you a side of chopped cilantro with your dish if you ask. Yum! read more

Went here again on April 8th for an anniversary. As usual the food was absolutely fantastic. We had the Enchiladas de Mole Poblano y Pollo and the Cazuela Fishkill. The mole' here is home made and totally legit. The seafood was cooked to perfection. The owners son waited on us and was just the right amount of attentive. This continues to be one of my favorite Mexican spots. It doesn't look like much on the outside BUT the food is amazing! No matter what you get, you'll be happy. I've yet to have anything less than an amazing meal. We ordered some tacos for take out and the presentation was beautiful. Even in their containers, they were topped properly and my mouth was watering before I even opened the container. One thing that I love about this place is that they don't cheat you on the experience even though you're getting takeout. They still give you a huge container of tortilla chips with salsa. I really love their salsa. It's chunky and just a little spicy. Not all places throw in the chips and salsa but they know their way to my heart. Everything was excellent. My family and I came here last year on a whim, and my mom literally wanted to make a trip to Poughkeepsie again (3 hours away from us!) just to dine here again. And it was just as good this time - we recommend this restaurant to all our friends and family if they're in the area. It's small and a definite hole in the wall. You start off with the house salsa, which is absolutely delicious and flavorful. It's sweet and salty with a bit of a kick, and chips are plentiful. They are super understaffed-one waiter is responsible for all the tables (inside and outside), and he also bartends and buses tables, so be prepared to wait a while, but they keep the chips flowing. We got the Chicken Fajitas, Enchiladas with Mole Sauce, Chicken Flautas, and Beef Chimichanga. Our favorites were the Chicken Fajitas and Beef Chimichanga. The chicken fajitas come off the grill and right onto your plate...literally! It steams up the entire restaurant! They're flavorful and juicy. The beef chimichanga and delicious and chock full of melty cheese and beef. All the dishes come with yellow rice and beans, which are delicious. Customer service is my first thing I look for when I walk in. Before I order I guage the vibe. It felt home, like a long day of work chilling in the living room vibe. The owner works EXTREMELY hard so does the young lady as well. The food took a minute to get to me. If you in hurry go to FAST food. I was prepared to wait and enjoy. The food was was good. I'm use to California nachos and the chips and salsa had a different twist on it. I like chips and salsa and the portions. They give you plenty of food. The salsa.was chunky making easy to get a lot on the chip. My stomach didn't feel bloated afterwards. Mexican Coffee w/ Tequila sounded weird (I love weird). But every CSI/SVU has a cop pouring a flask in a coffee mug so I want to try it. It was an experience I encourage anyone......who's 21 and over . If I lived here I would come here once a week just to talk to every one. I met two local young ladies who made the experience amazing by good conversation. This is a small Mexican restaurant with excellent food. I was in the area and had lunch with a few colleagues. The service was attentive and pleasant. Each of us had a different meal. I had a Chicken Quesadilla. It was terrific. Each person I was with felt the same about their meal. Where I was very disappointed was the beverages. I had a Diet Pepsi. One of my colleagues had a Seltzer Water. My $3.00 soda was terrible. It had cola coloring but nothing else. There was no carbonation, totally flat. I asked my colleague how his seltzer was and he said the same thing, no carbonation. Clearly, the food is the main thing when dining, but I do also want a refreshing beverage, especially on a hot day, which it was. Go for the food because it is really good.
