Went here for dinner while in the area. When you walk in you order off of the menu on two tv screens and they bring it to your table if you are dining in. We received our order pretty quickly and everything was warm (not super hot). We ordered beef and cheese empanadas - they were very fresh and crunchy but bland. We ordered a large maduro - fantastic - large pieces of banana perfectly cooked - soft and sweet. I ordered the pernil combo with rice and gondules and yuca fries - the pernil while soft was pretty salty. The rice was very good - good portion - needed some hot sauce. The yuca fries were very good - the sauce it came with was too spicy for me. Hubby had a pastele which he said was very good. He also had the pork chunks with rice and gondules which was also a bit salty. We decided next time to try some other items. We will be back. read more

This was a delivery order. It was picked up really quick by Uber Eats. I ordered the churrasco steak and it was good. Their chimichuri sauce was really good and helped elevate the steaks flavor. The tostones were soggy and packed with the garlic drip dip. It was oily and spilled inside so a lot of the tostones and the garlic on it, which my kid didn't like. The black beans look as if they were poured out of a can with the clear liquid and they were super salty. The potato salad was also too salty and not edible. Not sure why there were apples in there. I ordered beans with my white rice, and it was horrible. The flan was not homemade but out of a box. The roasted chicken smelled amazing, but once you bite into it, there was no flavor but a lot of seasoning that was not giving on the taste buds. The chicken soup was not hitting as well. This is not authentic, but it shortens and takes away the love and attention Puerto Rican food gives. I thought I was having a home-cooked meal, but I ended up with disgusting food. Just put a forkful in your mouth or look for steam rising from the take out containers you're eating from. It's not there. There are no Servers, basically food runners. You order at the counter, find a table, get your plastic wrapped tableware from a jar, napkins next to them and wait.... for your food. Now, several years later, I thought if they are still there, they must have gotten good. Wrong. Everything is too salty. Cheese empanadas had all the cheese cooked out of them--empty, fried pouches of greasy air. Chicken was dry as a desert, and yes, too salty. Black beans looked like they came straight from a can--no flavor. Rice overcooked with little to flavor it. Pernil? Boring, flavorless. I hate writing bad reviews. But this is ridiculous. Izla has excellent food. It really tastes homemade and the entree options are many and also quite diverse. This restaurant is also clean and inviting. The only downside is that the staff at Izla often seems a bit harried and out of sorts. Orders may take longer than expected and they are not particularly organized. Despite this, if you don't mind a little unexpected wait time and some measure of disorganization, the food is quite tasty. read more

Seems like Izla has been stepping up their game! We were looking for some really good food, close to home. I was opposed to ordering food from here because I wasn't thrilled during my last two visits but eventually gave in. I figured I'd try the pernil and if it disappointed me, that would be the last straw! But WOW, that pernil was soooo delicious. It was so juicy, tender and was exactly what I was looking for. The rice and gandules were just perfect and the portion is huge. The carne frita was so buttery and the portion size is enough for two meals. The yuca fries were the absolute best, I don't know how they make them so golden and cooked to perfection. I was absolutely stuffed afterwards and very pleased! I'm from Sacramento, where you can find plentiful authentic Mexican restaurants. But of course, as a Bronx native, I crave my Puerto Rican Food (just like my Mami used to make it)! On my last visit to Fishkill, my brother and I discovered Izla "A taste of Puerto Rico" Restaurant. We had to try it! I can honestly say it was very authentic and good! We both enjoyed the Bistec Encebollado with Arroz con Gandules and a side of Sweet Plantains (Plátanos Dulces). The rice was a tad dry, but otherwise the food was good. They also serve huge portions. So huge, we ended up taking enough home to make for a plentiful lunch the next day! Highly recomended. read more

Today is my birthday. I decided to show this place some love since there aren't many Latin restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The fact that there was no aroma of any food whatsoever and it being empty at lunchtime should have been dead giveaways, but it was a long drive so I persisted. So when it finally came, I exchanged my unopened can of soda for a colder one in the fridge. The food was salty plain and awful. Hubby had the steak and arroz con gandules and I had the roast pork and yuca. To be fair the roast pork was passable. Everything else was the worst Puerto Rican food I've ever had the displeasure of paying for. I didn't finish my lunch and as I was leaving I was told I needed to pay for the second soda I took from the fridge. I turned and replied that I didn't take a second soda, I merely replaced my soda with a colder one as mine had gotten warm while I was waiting for them to bring my lunch. Ariana then said I didn't have to get nasty with her about it. I then told her I'm losing my voice and am incapable of yelling and was merely stating facts. I then asked her if people steal from the establishment a lot while they're on camera. She continued to say she was just defending herself and not accepting responsibility as the person who initiated this situation. I didn't actually "get nasty" with this young lady at any point but definitely had the right to after her insinuation that I was stealing. Needless to say I wont be going back. Been to the location in Jefferson Valley and I couldn't wait for this new one to open up so we could try it! I think it's been open about a week! We went on Friday night and there were quite a few people there but we quickly placed an order and grabbed a table. Waited a long time for our order but I know there's always growing pains with a new place and I know that will be worked out eventually. We had the pernil, maduros, pasteles, alcapurrias and the garlic corn. Let me tell you it was worth the almost hour wait! I don't say that often! Everything was fabulous! The pernil was so delicious that I would have ordered more if not for the long wait! The pasteles were the best I've had in a long time and I'm speaking from experience as a Puerto Rican who grew up in the Bronx eating these for Christmas every year! The alcapurrias didn't disappoint and the maduros were heavenly! YES I want more! Will try ordering ahead next time and like I said I know all new places need time to adjust so I'm sure the wait time will improve. I also have to add that the service was friendly despite how busy they were and everyone was very apologetic when they found out how long we'd waited. I would give them a higher score but some issues. I ordered the food over the phone and then waited in my car until my 20 mins for it to be ready. As I sat outside looking into Izla. There was a person working behind the counter filling up the rice and beans bowls and he had his MASK below his nose! Why would you do that with all the COVID issues. He should wear his mask correctly. So when I called to tell them I was there a guy answered not enthusiastic at all like I was bothering them and not friendly. It was very strange. Got my food at the table outside and I asked the girl if she put the mojito sauce in the bag and she said she didn't know if it was in bag it and wasn't sure so she said we can get two complementary mojito sauces so she went in to get it and only brought one. If you don't know if we were given any and we are allowed two why don't you bring two out. That was really annoying. Luckily they have good food. My bf had the pork mofongo and I had the pastaleone both tasty and we split the Tango shrimp. I'm pretty sure it comes with two avacado halves (one whole avocado) every time I've gotten it from the Izla in Jefferson valley this one only has 1 half avocado. On a scale from 1-5 I would have to give the food a 3. Most of it had very little spices and taste. Kinda bland. The tostones are supposed to be firm almost hard but they were soft almost like maduros. The staff were welcoming and great. If you are near by try it out. But this is more of a Customer Service suggestion for La Izla. -When someone buys a dozen empanadas($27) or more, the garlic mojito sauce(2minimum) should be a inclusive. I placed a catering order after looking online at the catering menu and most of the items I ordered were charged a different price. I called the store back and the manager Kiara was not there. Spoke to Sam and she said there is nothing that she can do to adjust the price or refund my order. We were looking for a price adjustment but at this point, we are disappointed that there is nothing that can be done right now. Nope! Order maduros or tostones fine. Alcapurias, pasteles, pernil... no! None of it tastes anything like a Puerto Rican family dinner. The garlic sauce is a joke. The pernil is so underseasoned. The alcapurias are so not worth it. Nothing tasted like home. Nothing tasted like grandma, mom, aunt, grandpa, grandpa's sister or my food. Nothing tasted like I would get it on the island or in nyc. Things can be done a little differently and still taste right. This was not the case. I just wanted that home cooked taste without having to do it myself. I'd be embarrassed to bring my family here, we'd have to hold grandma back from storming into the kitchen to kick everyone out and do it herself. The most authentic Boriquan meal you can have outside of someone's home. It tastes just like I'm back home in the Boogie Down (Bronx NY.) The Pernil was very flavorful and juicy and the mojito sauce was perfect! To top it off the great coustumer service my wife and I received paired with the affordable prices I have found a new favorite restaurant close to home. They used very little meat but the taste was good. We were a groups of 4. We had white rice black beans and the pernil. Had some pastelon and bacalao mofongo. Black beans were not saucy. Very watery to the look. The pernil was good. Not delicious but good. The mofongo was very dry. Needed some oil! The pastelon was HORRIBLE. No beef what so ever, it tasted like it was cooked 3 days ago, stored in the fridge then re-heated in a microwave. I also ordered a chicken cutlet with white rice and beans. Sadly again they are CHEAP VERY CHEAP on the meat. The chicken cutlet was more cutlet then chicken. It was a very thin slice of chicken to the point when it was friend......the chicken became super dry!!! I will NOT COME AGAIN! Service- HORRIBLE. I am Puerto Rican and it is a disgrace to walk into a Puerto Rican restaurant/eatery and not be greeted or have great customer service. We are vibrant people and welcoming.
