Off the beaten path in Wappingers falls Cafe Con Leche was perfect for our Sunday brunch. Outside seating available under a deck. Inside was nice with plenty of seating for groups and AC to keep you cool on hot summer days. Acoustics were great we were able to enjoy our conversation without having to yell over loud music. Bathrooms were clean with a touch of Puerto Rico as ambient coquí frogs sing in the background. The staff were amazing, friendly attentive and helpful. Our waitress was top notch took care of our coffee and food orders with a smile on a rainy cloudy day. I went today with my son to eat some home town food. We don't have any Puerto Rican restaurants in Kindergarten NY and we miss our food. The place is beautiful and very P.R looking. With salsa music playing and nice servers. The rice and beans are slamming they taste like mom. I ordered peril (pork) with white rice and beans. The only thing I can complain about and it's the only thing. Is that the peril is ground up...I like mine in chunks. I have never seen Puerto Ricos serve it like that. I love this place. All the food is amazing and just like mama makes. Our waitress, Sophia, was great. She is helpful and super friendly and knowledgeable. My favorites are the alcapurrias and bacalaitos for appetizers. The sancocho was good but it needed more flavor but the carne asada was delicious. I had the mofongo burger and it was really good. The burger was overcooked but all the other stuff on it was good. The coquito espresso martinis are delicious and so is the guava cheesecake. The ambiance is great, I love all the island decorations. I do have to say they're getting pricier each time we go which makes it a little harder to be a regular but it's great when celebrating special occasions. read more

We met some friends there Saturday evening, all of us have eaten there before and looked forward to dinner. The lower dining room was full and even the upper room was almost full. As always the food was excellently prepared and plated beautifully, The restaurant has a family appeal, you see families with young children enjoying dinner together. My Wife's family loves this restaurant. This is our go to spot for group dinners. My FIL typically orders the Sofrito Wings and the Taste of Puerto Rico Sampler for the table. Wings are perfection and I would say a crowd favorite. The sampler really gets you started with mini rellenos, pastelillos and carne frita, great for sharing. Next we like to get into drinks, a pitcher of Hibiscus Sangria, Draft beer and fresh juices are always top picks for our group. For Entrees, The Pernil (slow cooked pork,) Mango Salsa Salmon and of course The Churrasco (10 oz Skirt Steak) served with chimichurri sauce and sautéed red onions, and a choice of side. Word to the wise, a 20% gratuity is added for groups of 5 or more, checks over $200 and on Holidays. Fair. Even when it comes down to the bathroom, listening to the sounds of the coqui in the restrooms. I had a big-time favorite, the codfish fritter bacalaoito with El jefe Mezcal and pineapple juice fantastic drink to get the night started. We ordered a mufungo with chicken and it was nice and moist not dry like others I've had. The stuffed avacado with creamy garlic sauce over chicken with white rice was incredible. Also ordered the sautéed chicken with peppers and onions with piegion pea rice another gem. The two pork chops with white rice and pink beans, excellent and pernil with a rice we have never had but was delicious arroz mamposteao . Also couldn't forget the tostones and Maduros and Yuka fries. We shared all around to try everything and it was a great experience. A staple in the community, Cafe con Leche never disappoints. This time I ordered their holiday special drink, it was absolutely delicious. For dinner I ordered a shrimp avocado salad that was fresh and had the most delicious lime dressing. Service was fast and friendly and the restaurant itself is cosy. Food as always is great. I ordered to go yesterday and in October dined in for mom's birthday. Finally tried the bacalao guisado. If I may suggest to have a mofongo with bacalao guisado. We were seated upstairs which decorated in a fun way, but it was very warm, no air conditioning, and after a while it became uncomfortable. The food was disgusting. I ordered skirt steak, med rare. It came well done and had no flavor. I told the waitress, she offered to have it remade, and I declined, b/c it just didn't taste good. My son is 10 and order a cheeseburger, which was so disgusting and made with spices and veggies, that no 10 year would eat. My hubby got the pork chops which were thin and dry, inedible. We came here today. We are celebrating my cousin's birthday. Everything on the menu is good. I always go for the mofongo. You can have it with chicken pork, I like mine with shrimp. I had the monfongo with seafood: shrimp. Calamares and octopus salad. It's a bit loud, we Latinos talk loud. But the atmosphere is festive. We had several servers, but our main one is Ariana. I came here for Mother's Day brunch and it was wonderful. I had delicious food and amazing service. We were a party of five and the tip was included because it was holiday but the waitress did tell us when giving us the bill. This was great because they were transparent about the tip being included. We ordered the jibaritos sandwich with pernil. This was really good; I would say less onion but this is just my preference. The pork was well seasoned and juicy. The tostone was also good and had a good amount of crunch. My main entree was the fried red snapper which was delicious, well cooked and flavorful. The fish was crispy and flavored. I loved this fish and transported me back to an island vacation. I love my entree and recommend it. The size was big enough to share with someone else. We also had a pitcher of tamarind sangria which was delicious. My sister had the churrasco which was really good as well. My niece's food was also good the mofongo with shrimp. The dessert was really good we ordered the trio of dessert. We all liked the tres leche and the flan. I did not like the crème brûlée but maybe that was just from being full. We did order the coquito latte but I did not taste the coquito flavor. The service was great Sophia was very nice and had great recommendations. Last year, I went to this restaurant as a party of 6 for a birthday and had a good time. We were seated promptly for our reservation, our waiter gave good service, and food was great. Tonight my family came again and had a totally different experience. We made reservations for 3:30 PM-- showed up at 3:35 PM and it was fairly busy. The hostess told us our table would be a "little longer" and that we needed to wait outside or sit at the bar and wait, which would have been okay but then we were not seated until 4:30 PM even though I saw what would be our table get vacated at 4:15 PM and they told us at 4:20 it would only be "2 minutes." That few extra minutes felt like forever when you have been waiting an hour for your /reserved/ table. It then took 15 more minutes after being seated for our waitress to even come over to our table to acknowledge us and take our order. We would have felt better if at any point someone had apologized for the wait or been considerate of the fact that we were waiting for so long, but no one did. As we sat there we saw our waitress go up to literally every other table in her section and ask them how they were doing, and if they needed anything, right up to the table next to us, then turn around without acknowledging us or saying hello or at least "I'll be right with you guys." The food was good and came out promptly once our order was taken, and we enjoyed the rest of the evening, but to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes to FINALLY order did put a damper on things. Of note, we were only asian american family in the establishment at the time. It may or may not matter at all, but people without reservations were seated long before us (I acknowledge that they had smaller parties of 3-4 and we were 7) and not many other people we saw were sent out to wait in their cars for a reservation. The food is solid and I know Sundays are a busy day for them, but I would not recommend coming here if you want reservations to be honored. read more

I chose their homemade arroz con gandules which is just like mami's home recipe and the brussel sprouts, don't frown! These will make any non veggie lover eat veggies! They are sweet and have a nice bite, not mushy and not raw not bitter. Try them! The coquito crembrule was very creamy and had the perfect sweetness. I started out with the very fresh pulpo sliders! The slider is pulpo salad on tostones. Delicious! Felipe and Melody the owners were there as always welcoming and friendly. They always make me feel at home.
