Service and welcome from owners exceptional. Won't give a totally bad review because this is one of my favorite authentic Puerto Rican restaurants. Their rice and pigeon peas are amazing as well as the alcapurrias, empanadas and desserts. Only thing I will never order again for takeout is their pork chunks, $16 for only 8 pieces was way too much. read more

While out and about managed to hear from a local business vendor about this Latin spot tucked away in a tiny space that manages do put out some flavorful dishes . The service was courteous and prompt and the food didn't disappoint . If ya looking for a quick bite that packs the flavor of the motherland ya might wanna consider and stop in . Had the steak and onions along with the accapuria and gotta say that Spanish flavor was mouth watering . Kudos to the boricuas managing this spot and keeping it simple . Absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for flavor, great customer service, and good prices. I stopped here for something quick to take back to my hotel room while I was in town. The owner was at the counter and immediately greeted us and made us feel welcome. We had the alcapurrias de yuca and chicharrones. The alcapurrias were huge, flavorful, and fried to perfection. The sofrito they use is absolutely homemade and so so good! The chicharrones oh my so delicious and a definite must have. So sad I live so far and can't come here often. Please stop by here if you're in the area. Everything was fresh and made to order. read more

Brunilda's Cuchifrito - This is what I call real Spanish food! This is a the spot to come to when you want some authentic Spanish food from home. - Spanish Near Me - Middletown, New York

Oh my GODDDD! As a Puerto Rican raised on this style of food I give them my whole seal of approval. Since moving upstate I have tried & failed a few tomes to find restaurants that are as good or even better than what's available downstate. This place totally fits the bill. They offer a great selection, reasonable prices, quality as close to authentic as you can get food all with great customer service. The lady that assisted me both times I visited was so nice, polite and friendly. I ordered pernil (roast pork), chicken stew & beans & rice for a late lunch one day. I took it home for my daughter & I to share & we ended up splitting both orders in half so we could both have a little of everything. We were both happy. I will definitely be back here. read more

Great food! Best empanadas ever! Love the pernil! I live in Rochester but come here every time I'm down to visit my brother. read more

I come here every so often when I don't feel like cooking. Food is "decent". Rice is way too greasy. Relleno de Papa exterior is a little too hard, the mash bland, the meat was very little but, flavorful. Alcapurrias need more meat as well and too greasy. Pernil sandwiches are good yet, not consistent. Sometimes they're well assembled with a good amount of ingredients and sometimes they are half empty. Pastelillos are "ok". Maduros are sweet but, kinda tastes like the frozen ones. Mayokechup tastes just like PR! I didn't try the tostones because my husband said they didn't taste like fresh ones. I sure hope we're wrong that they're frozen. Pernil always tastes good but, last time I ordered it unfortunately, was shredded way too much and was kinda dry. Julio is really nice but, I think you get much better quality and portions when the ladies are there. Before I forget chuletas are good. Flan had a slightly burnt coating, peeled it off and can honestly say it was delicious. Smooth texture, nice density to it, not overly sweet and the caramelo was indeed excellent. I'm impressed at how the flan filled the entire container. Would be great if they got some GoodO Cola Champagne, parcha and coco drinks for that special touch. read more

I had the chicken stew because they didn't have what I wanted. The owner/chef kept talking about how amazing the chicken stew is, like it's his main dish and it's the most popular, so I took his word for it. I was amazed by how tender the chicken was. The chicken would just fall off the bone without me biting into it. Next time you come here, just ask the owner/chef what he recommends because he'll tell you what's good! This place is a bit small and does get crowded around lunch time, but the line goes quick. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in town and crave for some Spanish food! read more

So I've been to Cuchifrito's many many times since I was little. Their food is really good; though I have stopped going for my own personal reasons (the foods a bit to greasy for what I prefer to eat). That is not a bad thing though. It's how the food is supposed to be. I just prefer other kinds of food. The customer service is absolutely excellent. The restaurant is quite small but clean. It's in a great location right in the center of downtown Middletown. The owner has been making his business work for years and years. Whether you get an empanadia or a whole meal, their food is on point!! & employees are so friendly!! I like the painting on the wall too.. Ps: Try their Flan!! It's awesome! read more

Ok, my husband and I came here for the first time after many many times passing it while driving... I would like to start off by saying I LOVE supporting my Puerto Rican Hard working family businesses. It's not often I come across Authentic tasting Latin food, but.... this place right here didn't disappoint! What a relief . Seriously.. now I finally know where to go when I don't feel like cooking lol.. also they do limbers and flan.. Oh.. And also they sell Sofrito y'all !!! You know I had to take a small one home for the test, and holy Sh*t it was on POINT! Now that is hard to come by... Especially when I'm too busy to make my read up batch. The Sofrito struggle is REAL when you work too much & don't have the time to buy all the ingredients to make which I do my own always. The place is small, but clean and the owner is very sweet and polite. Food came out fast and hot. We had steak with onions, yellow rice & sweet plantains. Pernil (roast pork) with yellow rice, chicharon (fried pork chunks) & alcapuria de yuca. Everything was cooked well.. well seasoned, and yummy!! Coño!!! Lol.. Give it a try y'all! Adios! A little too greasy, sometimes the grease overpowers the flavors BUUT it's the most authentic tasting cuchifritos in Middletown (aside from my own kitchen ) so I'm still a customer read more

Been going here since they opened. Ive been to many Puerto Rican restaurants in NYC area and beyond. NOTHING COMES CLOSE, not even my Abuelas cooking! This is as authentic as it gets. Way better than the fake PR food from La Fondas down the block! These ppl have great hospitality and excellent food. Prices are a little more compared to other spots but worth it. The negative reviews are probably haters, non-hispanics that have no taste, or the usual dope heads from a few blocks away. You won't be disappointed here. read more

So I ordered on phone, and my husband picked up. The total was $50. I ordered 3 pork and rice dinners, one 1/4 chiccarone and one flan. Online menu said 12.50' for pork dinners, 6.95 for 1/2 ** LB chiccarone 6.95( I ordered half of that) and Flan for 5.95. Should have been more like $36. Watch out for these ppl, they are running game . PS they food was not that good read more

Man do I love good Puerto Rican food, this place has great Puerto Rican food so I don't mind driving 30 miles round trip to pick it up. Great,Arroz con Guandules, empanada's, mofungo, carne frito de puerco, platano's maduro and tostones. Their beef stew is also very very good. I know this is silly but they have Puerto Rican soda too to go with your order. For Puerto Rican take out this place is the real deal. I wouldn't come here to sit down and eat just for pickup. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. What else could you ask for. Call ahead this place gets insanely busy. read more

Best Authentic PR food is the area! This restaurant is Middletown staple , the food is delicious

The best empanadas that I have ever had! It's exactly like they make them in Puerto Rico... It's a small hole in the wall but those are the greatest spots.. New family spot! read more

DELICIOSO!!!! The food at Cuchifrito's is amazing. The flavors are authentic, savory Puerto Rican seasoning. It exceedingly satisfies the palate of native islanders, as well as that of foodies.
