The portions were generous and flavorful, and I especially enjoyed that bread and salad were included with the entrées. The fried calamari was impressive in size as well. We were also particularly struck by the attentive service, a manager, noticed our table was wobbly and fixed it immediately without us even having to ask. Additionally, the staff was very accommodating and provided a large box to neatly wrap up all of our leftovers. Tried this place for the 1st time. Formerly a Friendly's, Stephano's is perhaps best known for its portion sizes and reasonable prices. Plenty of indoor seating. The calamari was more than I could finish; even for an appetizer you could have it as a meal. The house burger was a whopping 9 oz. For dessert, the "Skyscraper Chocolate Cake" was a walk off grand slam. Holy cow it was good. Drizzled in chocolate syrup and dabbed with whipped cream on all four sides. Went here with my wife on a Saturday evening. Started off with the bread which is outstanding. A cheese some olives and peppers. House salad with creamy Italian was also very good. Wife had the tortellini in a Bolognese sauce which would have been much better if they were a little more aladente. I've been told about this place by at least three people. I loved it! I went during the week, and it was pretty busy. I sat at the bar and ordered a Diet Coke and the homemade tortellini, which came with a side salad and bread. Everything was excellent. I eat here often and have never had a bad meal or service. The portions are huge! I usually get the chicken scarpiello but this weekend tried their baby clams and shrimp over linguini with tomatoes in a garlic white wine sauce. It was delicious! I haven't been here in years - I heard that quality control had taken a dive, but it was so good in the past we gave it a go. I made a reservation as Friday's get busy. We walked in and were greeted immediately and in a courteous friendly and professional manner. We were seated and had water super fast. This is where they lost a star - the waiter came and mumbled his way through taking a drink order. He had the personality of a rotting log and was NOT a friendly individual. I certainly don't want to make any BFF's at dinner, but this guy was like having a pet rock to serve us. He was only partially attentive and kept the same barely-have-a-pulse demeanor for our entire visit. I can't say service really suffered, but when our food was dropped we didn't see him again for quite a while. That being said, the food was outstanding. There was enough on my plate for three servings! Needless to say the majority of our food came home with is. They doggy-bag it up in the back and bring it to you - nice touch! All the other staff we dealt with were very pleasant - it's a shame we got stuck with the dead fish as a server. The bar scene was pretty hopping with lots of activity. It prompted me to look at their happy hour specials and I can tell you I will 100% be back to enjoy them. My only other complaint is the dining room gets very noisy. We went on Tuesday evening for the first time with 5 people and no reservation. The restaurant was crowded, but we were immediately welcomed and seated. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, so plentiful (4 out of 5 of us brought home enough for at least one more meal!)and very reasonably priced! (And the wine pour was huge.) The peas inside, were like the ones I used as ammo as a kid. Hard as a rock. Great with a peashooter, not in the food. I mentioned it to the bartender - it didn't phase her. Stephano's is one of those old school Italian American places. The food is delicious and comes with huge portions. All the favorites you'd expect on the menu with some specials as well. The wait staff is attentive and speedy and the dishes come out hot. The restaurant can get slightly loud when packed but the seating is spaced out so you're not on top of each other. Had a 5:00 pm reservation for 3 on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. The restaurant was mostly full. It's not very large and the bar area and tables are all together in one room. It was very noisy. The waitstaff was pleasant, prompt and accommodating. The entree's come with a salad and choice of dressing. Large warm pizza dough type rolls are served with a ricotta mixture spread, Roasted red peppers and small pitted Kalamata olives. We ordered the hot antipasto for an appetizer. Plenty for 3 to share. It came with 4 shrimp, 4 clams, & mostly mussels in a mild spicy red sauce. There were a few tiny stuffed clams and a side of eggplant rollatini. The latter was the best. Tender eggplant with a silky, sweet and mild marinara sauce. My brother ordered the Zuppa de pesche fra diavlo . It was very spicy and more mussels than shrimp or clams. Naturally lots of linguine. My sister in law ordered linguine with white clams in garlic and oil. I ordered the homemade gnocchi in the same silky marinara sauce. Light delicious pillowy clouds with high quality melted mozzarella (parmigiana) (can be made fra diavlo). All portions are oversized, came out hot, fresh & Properly seasoned. Another visit my daughter gave me three choices of restaurants to take me to for my birthday and this family owned Italian restaurant was my first choice.She brought me here last year for Father's Day and I knew this is the place I wanted to go back to. My wife and I had been to Stephanos in Fishkill, and it's previous locations, for years. Tonight, New Years Eve, we arrived, per our reservations made a month before, at the prescribed time. We were directed to a temporary table that looked like a folding table with two folding chairs fit for children. I am 80 years old, 6ft 2in and weigh 230 pounds. I am not proud of being overweight, but we asked for one of the regular tables and we're not only told no, but with no attempt to satisfy us and a little attitude on the side. They've got decent food, nothing to rave about though. Their portion sizes are HUGE. We came for happy hour and they only had "appetizers" and boy are they everything but that lol. An appetizer is like a whole meal, it's great. We got calamari, meatball subs, fried mozzarella, pasta fagioli soup, rigatoni bolognese and tiramisu. We had to take half of the food to go bc the portions were so big and they give u a decent amount of bread too which was delicious. Their food does need a little bit more seasoning/flavor, a lot of the dishes were low on salt but everything was good besides the soup. I would avoid that lol it wasn't made properly but they took it off the bill thankfully. The drinks were good, their WINE pours are a holy grail. They fill up The glass to the brim so you def get your moneys worth. I also didn't like how they don't have an outdoor patio, was kinda hoping to sit outside in the nice weather. We stopped in twice recently for the weekday happy hour that is served at the bar from 4-6PM. On the first visit we arrived just before 5PM and scored a pair of seats at the end of the bar. On the 2nd round we switched to house wines that were similarly priced and more than decent. Came here on Sunday night. Made reservations a week in advance. Upon walking in there was no greeting so we let him know who we were and that we had a reservation. I will say the few times I've been here, It's always the same with the hostess . Owner may want to rethink who you he puts on the front door not someone wearing a sweatshirt that doesn't know how to greet customers and has zero personality. Now onto our waiter. When he finally made his way over and took the drink order it took forever just to get the drinks. As far as refills we had to hunt him down all night. Food was delicious and that's the only reason why I gave this review two stars. The waiter messed up the entire night. I asked for fried calamari for two and on my bill, I see he charged a calamari for the table. I said nothing even though that's not what I ordered and I obviously had to pay more for his mistake . He got three of our salad dressing orders wrong and had to return them. When finished , Our food sat there as we waited for someone to come over to ask if we want our food wrapped or given boxes , refills, coffee or dessert . Finally, we asked a different waiter and he brought us to go boxes. Then the wait began again just to get coffee. The waiter was of Spanish descent, and I will remember him if I return . The place is loud to the point of making conversation almost impossible with anyone not sitting right next to you unless you shout. There are no soft or textured surfaces to help soften the din of everyone's shouting. The food was mediocre to unacceptable. The braciola was inedible. It was so dry it couldn't be swallowed. Something I've never experienced anywhere. If there had been any filling in it to begin with, it had cooked away a long, long time ago. I had the rigatoni with it and it was just about raw - not al dente - sticking to your teeth raw. I asked another person in our party how their rigatoni was. Raw was the response. The rolls weren't worth eating. I have read other reviews of Stephano's that noted how rushed people were. Same here. The food took forever to come and when it did, they were back to the table and taking our plates before we were even finished. The only good thing that came of it, is we learned this wasn't a place worth coming to. Knowledge costs something. For me, it was the price of last nights dinner. Should you still feel the need to try it out, take note when you arrive that in leu of a hostess, there is a desk sergeant. When you experience it you'll know what I mean. read more

From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave the ambience, service and friendliness of the staff are amazing. We had a large group in town for a football game and Ken made it happen. Glen was our server and he didn't miss a beat. He gave excellent options and took our orders with a smile on his face. The food is unbelievable and delicious. If you are smart and go to Stephano's plan on sharing a meal as they are huge. I had Veal Piccata and it was tender and full of flavor. The food and service were either good or fabulous. The balsamic vinegar salad dressing was the best I ever had. The bread that comes with meals is heated and scrumptious. However, the last thing I want to see when eating I am on a date with my husband is Fox News. Restaurants shouldn't play partisan shows while people are dining. In addition, I asked if I could get whole wheat pasta, and was charged an additional $5 for that. There was no mention of the surcharge on the lunch menu, not did our waiter tell us about that. I have never seen more than a $2 surcharge for whole wheat pasta, and were I informed about this inexplicably high cosy, I wouldn't have ordered it. read more
