So I ordered from this location for take-out, about an hour before they were closing. The lentil soup was absolutely fantastic-I loved it and it had great flavor. The restaurant decor looked very nice when I stopped in to get my to-go order. I have heard great things about this restaurant and was excited to try it. Unfortunately I also ordered a Tabouleh salad with grilled chicken. There was SO much dressing (oil) on the Tabouleh I could barely taste the actual vegetables--the oil was even leaking out of the container, so that was disappointing. Also the grilled chicken was fatty and not very tasty so I was unable to eat it as well. I do want to try some other dishes here in the future to see how other dishes taste. read more

OMG what a beautiful place. I only had take out, but intend to go for a nice sit down and relax dinner. They are waiting for the liquor license. I ordered the felafel, they were deliciously spiced. My order of crispy fries were yummy, the green salad was so so very good with their own dressing. The two guys at the helm could not have beben nicer. I walked in at 7pm and was immediately seated. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and really cozy. The waiter was very attentive and took my order immediately. I ordered the stuffed grape leaves as an appetizer and the mixed grill. It came with 1 kufta, 1 shish tawook, chicken chop, and 1 shish kabob. The grape leaves came out pretty fast and were hot and tasty. The mixed grill was also really good. I would recommend for families or group dining . read more

Our first time at Kanoon in Fishkill. Very nice Middle East food. They start you out with a mixed green salad. We had the hummus and Pita which was delicious. We ended up sharing the #31, smoked brisket prime angus beef and FF's, although different rices were available. Our server Muhammad was great, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant, loads of tables and seating. No room for dessert but the mint tea was delicious. Very nice experience and we will be back. Thank you Kanoon. read more

Let me tell you about a wonderful place you will love it! You will get personalized service from wonderful staff. The owner will come and visit you! So cool and trendy inside! It has a bar and the coffee is exceptional. I had Seabass and it was wonderful smoked and smoked rice which I never had and wonderful little salad. And a dessert please I could go on for days. It was wonderful with us wonderful stuff that I thought was some magic chocolate oh so good I had the mousse cake. My husband had an Oreo cake of some kind so good and I didn't take any pictures of dessert, but it was wonderful! Summary: The food was ok, and despite the restaurant being almost entirely empty, the service was bad and slow. There was an automatic 20% gratuity added onto the check (with no warning that I could see). There are other better restaurants to go to nearby for the same price tag (~$120 for two people), with better service and better food. The good: The food was presented very well. The taste was fine. The decor inside was...interesting? I wasn't really sure what they were going for - a western theme, I guess. There were about 12 TVs going, all of which were showing the same fireplace. I had some interesting pickled vegetables I'd never tasted before, which I really enjoyed. The Shish Kebab was good, but kind of overpriced ($25) for just two skewers. We did receive a free dessert (a tiramisu cake, one of my favorites), for the multiple issues we'd faced. Unfortunately, it wasn't a tiramisu cake - instead, it was a basic vanilla sponge with chocolate syrup (think Hershey's) poured all over it. The bad: We ordered water, and got bottled water. I hate it when restaurants do this. I asked for tap water instead, and the server didn't understand me, so a manager type came over. I say manager type, because there was a group of 5 older men sitting in the corner near the bar, chatting when we came in. One of them motioned to a server to seat us when we came in, since there was no one at the greeting station. Were these the owners? I don't know. Anyway, so, I explained that I didn't order a bottle of water, and the server said they would comp the water bottles. I guess that's fine, but it was just awkward. The apps were good, but small portions. The server came back after we'd ordered, and apologized - he hadn't actually put our order in. We reordered, no big deal - it was only an extra 10 or so minutes we had to wait, and we'd already had apps. When the entrees did arrive, they were fine. My "salad" was literally lettuce with raw onion on it - no dressing. That's fine, I can eat lettuce. The salad that arrived at the table before the apps (free for everyone?) was much better dressed and tasted much better. Our utensils had been cleared away, and we didn't receive new ones with our entrees, so we had to flag down a waiter and ask for new ones - which took another few minutes. The Ugly: We asked for our stuff to be cleared away, and the server who helped us didn't speak any english, and kept trying to take stuff that we weren't finished with. I just stared at my husband as he awkwardly gathered things from across the booth, reaching completely across the table to do so. First day, maybe? Regardless, the service was the kind where it feels intrusive and awkward, and make the meal uncomfortable. We kept saying, "Akward" to each other every time the server left. We had to wait about 15 minutes between asking our stuff to be cleared away and getting the check. When the check did arrive, there was an automatic gratuity of 20% added on. We were a party of 2. Now, I normally tip 20% (or more for good service), but this made me almost want to cross out the total, and write in my own amount. I didn't, but I certainly didn't add in any more for an additional tip. read more

Overall, it was a decent experience. The service was fine, the place has a family friendly atmosphere, and the food was good. However, the pricing felt a bit high for what you get, especially the boneless ribeye. Paying $50 for a "15oz" steak that was smaller than expected and overcooked was disappointing. That said, everything else was very enjoyable--the grilled lamb chops were my favorite. Another small inconvenience was that bottled water was the only option. What stood out the most, though, was that the owner (maybe) kindly offered us a dessert "on the house," but it never arrived. We waited at least 15 extra minutes before deciding to just pay and leave. While not a major issue, it was a bit of a letdown at the end of the meal. read more

I was visiting the region, and was intrigued by the idea of a fusion of Middle Eastern halal and American smokehouse BBQ. I ordered the angus prime smoked brisket, and it was easily the worst I've had in my life (I grew up in Kansas City and have been eating BBQ for a longggg time). The description was absolutely deceptive: this beef was not angus, not prime, and not even smoked. The meat had absolutely no spices, no smoke flavor or aroma--it really both looked and tasted like it was simply cooked (and not even braised) in an oven. What made it worse is that the meat was carved along the grain, not against it, so not only was it impossibly dry and tasteless, it was stringy and chewy. I barely got through 1/3 of what was on my plate. After dinner, I walked around the strip mall where the restaurant is located: no sign anywhere of a smoker, or even an exhaust stack from an indoor smoker. In the dining room of the restaurant there is a warming oven, but it is obviously for ornamental purposes only (it was empty, turned off, and showroom clean). I really saw no evidence whatsoever that the meats of this establishment are actually smoked. If all this wasn't bad enough, we ordered water, and were asked if we preferred bottle or tap. We answered tap, and the waiter promptly brought us two bottles of water. We shrugged and didn't think much of it, until we saw that we were charged $5 for each 11oz bottle.
