I picked up smoked salmon, whitefish salad, smoked tuna salad. The smoked salmon was amazing, sliced very thin, had nice flavor and not too salty. The whitefish salad was just ok, as it was too creamy and not enough big pieces of whitefish. The smoked tuna salad was something I wasn't expecting, I expected regular tuna salad but it tasted smoked like whitefish salad. I probably wouldn't get that again. I drive close to 30 mins each way every weekend to Mt Kisco Smokehouse and it's worth it! My family loves their baked salmon salad, but i prefer their hand sliced nova and scotch salmon. Both smooth, silky and delicious, but the scotch has a bit more flavor which i prefer. And it's not salty like at some other place. If you are in a rush, the pre-sliced is among the best you'll find anywhere. If you are a bit more adventurous try the sable, baked salmon, or smoked tuna salad. They also have a nice selection of cheeses and usually a few veggies and lemons if you like to dress your bagel. read more

Mt. Kisco Smokehouse is my go to when I'm in New York. I have to bring my husband there Smoked Sturgeon back to Denver whenever I come back. He absolutely thinks it's the best and he grew up eating from all of the big deli's in NYC but it's there's he request every time. We have bagel shops that will suffice but no Smoked Sturgeon. Incredible that this place exists in Westchester of all areas while similar shops in Brooklyn have closed. So far I've tried the Nova, the Scotch and today the Wild Alaskan (never had that before). All of which were more than amazing. The herring, the salmon caviar both spectacular. I saw a complaint about no chopped liver. That was plainly in sight while I was there. I saw a complaint about the bagels. Is that why you went there? Pretty sure the bagels are just convenience. Good bagels in Westchester are tough to find. Although there are a couple of places nearby that are not bad. Saw a mention of it being pricey. Really? Not compared to what I'm seeing in the markets these days. The owner sets the example for his employees. He is dismissive, boorish, and rude. Moreover, he and the other counter help always cut portions of fish that weigh more than you asked for. At $32 a pound, it's not a mistake. Rude, incompetent, service. They're doing you a favor to serve you. It's like the fish is smoked by angels. The sable is also good, but unfortunately not at the same level as the salmon. As a background: I have been shopping at the Mt. Kisco Smokehouse since it opened on Kisco Avenue decades ago. At that time the current owners, immigrants from Central America, were just employees of the place, whose main business was to supply up-scale restaurants and hotels throughout Westchester and NYC. When the original owners retired, they sold the place to the former employees, all of whom had been working there for many years. The new owners relocated the business to its present quarters on Lexington Avenue, where they have been for at least 20 years. Concentrating more on retail sales, they have greatly expanded their product line to include baked goods, crackers, specialty cheeses, imported butters, etc. But these are just ancillary products, meant to offer more services to the customers; the main emphasis is still on top-quality smoked fish of all kinds and the smoking is still done on the premises. All of this is to say I am totally stunned by the (admittedly very few) negative reviews on this board. Yes, the fish is pricey. Yes, there are SOMETIMES waits for service (usually on Jewish holidays which often feature cold repasts, or at Christmas), but you can always pre-order and then you don't have to wait at all. They take all credit cards except American Express, choosing not to pay those fees; in that they are not unlike many other local businesses. My friends and family who live in Pennsylvania, upstate New York and Maryland always beg us to bring goodies from The Smokehouse when we visit, and when they come to us, they go home with a cooler full of food themselves. I don't understand how anyone could say the service is rude. These people have lived the American dream: they have built a business based on top quality food, which is hand-sliced and packaged before your eyes - the only exceptions being during extremely busy holiday times, where they pre-cut the fish THE SAME DAY, and during the freakish Covid period of the last year. This is a far cry from the deli counter at your local market. You need to cut them some slack (to coin a phrase). They are unfailingly pleasant and courteous. In the forty years I have been dealing with them I have never seen them be rude to anyone. This is the unprepossessing outlet of a wholesale smokehouse. Still, it offers a better retail experience than I have encountered at La Maree in Mamaroneck. The countermen do a respectable job of slicing the Nova, which is as good as any you'll find in Westchester. A plump smoked trout was even better. The Mt. Kisko Smokehouse, in Mt. Kisko ,New York is the very very best place by far than any other appetizing store in NYC or anywhere in Westchester,N.Y. on the North Shore of Long Island. I recently had some people over for a " Sunday Brunch". All I can say, is that everything that was ordered and came from them was more than phenominal. The nova lox was sliced thin, how we like it, the baked salmon was juicy and delicious and the whole large white fish was fillet onto a large platter. We also had their sliced beefsteak tomatoes, sliced red onions and decorated with capers and black calamata olives for that added touch. All our guests loved all of the food we served, We added many more incredible array of delicious deserts and fruits and of course there was " CHAMPAGNE" to top everything off! The hand-sliced nova is unbelievable lean (none of that dark black stuff you find in supermarket nova) and is sliced so think it is like butter when you put it in your mouth ... to say nothing of the excellent taste. The whitefish salad ... also unbelievable. Fresh, and not overrunning with strong whitefish taste (which sometimes upsets my stomach) but just enough whitefish to create a subtle taste in the salad. The chub ... was good ... but for some reason it was just not as outstanding as the other stuff. This place had a jammed parking lot and a 20-30 minute wait right before the Jewish holidays.
