As other reviewers have mentioned, the food is flavorless. We were really excited to try but as soon as we started eating we were very unimpressed. Bland. No flavor and dry. We had the chicken, mac and cheese, corn bread, fries, and it was all BLAND. The pulled Chicken Sandwich was just a bun and chicken. That's it! The bottom of the roll was soggy and fell apart. Someone raved about the food so we figured we should give it a try. I actually found the food to lack any flavor,meats were very dry.

Some of the food served to us was miserable. The ribs and brisket were too dry to eat. Pulled pork was OK. Mac n cheese totally lacked taste. The pretzel was quite good. Service overall was lacking (drinks were ordered were never served). The outdoor is very nice but with the disappointing food we left quickly. Been to this restaurant many times, best smoked bbq in the area hands down. Quality food and the portions are huge ! Service is consistently very good. Phenomenal food. The meats are awesome. The pastrami was a shining star for us but everything was great--including the sides! We got fries, creamed spinach, mac and cheese, and potato salad as our sides. All of them were incredible and did not disappoint. The fries were crispy and good, the creamed spinach was lush, the potato salad was made correctly, so so good. I was waiting for the mac and cheese to be boring and it was the total opposite. It had this awesome tang to it. I loved them all. The corn bread, if anything, disappointed because it wasn't fresh. Also, my pumpkin beer had a weird smell to it but my husband traded with me because he didn't smell it. Overall, that food shined. Service was fine. I look forward to returning. I nibbled on the leftovers from our Pig Nic the whole week following our visit! Barbecue everyday? Hell yeah. This visit reminded me what I've been missing out on. read more

I'm not a beer drinker but I did notice the extensive listing of brews available. The place is casual, just the way I like it. The waitress was fun to talk to and did everything right with no wait for initial service--we were greeted immediately. And the time it took to get our food after we ordered was quick too. A great BBQ spot located in Mahopac, NY. Ive been coming here for years. They have a grrst selection of BBQ menu items and a big list of drafts and drinks. This is a barbecue/smoke spot and those meats are very tasty!!! Took away a star because I got a pulled pork sandwich and the sauces made the bottom part of the bun so soggy I just used a fork. That was fine by me since I mostly wanted to enjoy the meat and my sides haha. I got a side of coleslaw (tasty) and Mac and cheese (not that great unfortunately). The people there weee wonderful but food wasn't that great. True barbecue should have a taste with or without barbecue sauce and this was very bland. We love this place! Great atmosphere, huge beer selection, friendly, fast service, BIG portions, and delicious food. Better for meat eaters than those (like me) who go for chicken. The chicken dishes I've tried have been a little dry, but my husband the carnivore has loved everything he's ever ordered: ribs, brisket, pork, pastrami, etc. The sides are all excellent. Also--they sell growlers and re-fill them if you have an empty growler at home. We'll be back in the warmer months to take advantage of their great outdoor seating area, perfect for large groups and covered with a "ceiling" of white twinkle lights. read more

Stopped by after apple picking in Fishkill. It was around 7 pm on Saturday. Seating was quick. Drinks came right away, and food came out in reasonable timing. Food was okay. The restaurant is an old barn looking place. I get that they're trying to go for the rustic Americana look, but the place looks like it can be better cleaned. The staff I have encountered are very nice. The food here can be very good but it is inconsistent. Sometimes they do a really good job, and other times the food can be semi-cold and you can tell it was rushed. BBQ food requires time and attention to detail. A few times I know they served me food that was made the day before. Their sauce is a thick molasses based sauce. That being said, when the food is fresh, and they take their time; Holy Smoke makes very good BBQ. I don't come here as much as I used to because I got tired of rolling the dice. This place needs to iron out their quality control issues, and they'll have a solid BBQ spot. There's not a lot of competition in the area for them. It can be a good spot for beers and apps, they have a great tap list. Hopefully if you go it'll be on one of their good days. read more

WOW! BBQ in a gas station! Great BBQ!!!!! I'd give him twenty if I could. We were driving by and caught sight of the smoker. On a whim, we decided to give it a try since we're always looking for a good BBQ joint. I still can't get over how incredibly good the food is. We've been back many, many times even tho it's a fair distance from our home. Everything we've had is sooooo good. I always get the pulled pork sandwich with sweet sauce ~ in my opinion, it's the best pulled pork sandwich in the whole world. Seriously! Hubby has had numerous of the other offerings, and hasn't been disappointed with a single one. I'm easy....just give me my pulled pork sandwich!!!!!!!! Hope they stay in business forever. Both locations of holy smokes have never failed me! Been going since I was a kid and always get the same thing. Caroline pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. Portions are hefty and be sure to get extra sauce on side because that's the best part! They've perfected the recipe both in their sauces and slow cooked pork. I get the bread and pickle on the side when getting take out so they don't intermingle or get everything soggy. Order a head though because wait times for pickups have ranged from 20 minutes to over an hour. Nevertheless service is always great upon entering in person. read more

I've been here a few times. I wish there were a few more items that are traditionally sold at bbq places. But the service has always been great. However we did make a reservation one evening and the restaurant randomly closed for an event and we would have never known unless we made a reservation and saw they canceled it on us the day prior. So I suggest always calling before driving down. The Mac and cheese is great. Love getting the corn bread and brisket empanadas! A great spot when you're around the area to come to!
