Please know that like this place but 16 July was a let down. We ordered almost $200 of food as we stepped in as soon as they opened. The cook was not in place the polite cashier began to take our two separate orders. My coworker started mine for me and i finished it but by this time the cook came on line. My worker then started his own order when the cook grumpily told him he "can't be having multiple orders" to which i corrected him telling the first one was mine. Yeah, weird thing to say to customers who may have multiple orders. He shrugged it off without an apology. The cashier was professional and assisted. The food unfortunately was lacking. All the meats (wings, brisket and ribs) were dry like they were left from the day before and simply warmed up. I ordered for pieces of cornbread to which all were corner pieces. The mac and cheese was a decent as it was going to be. The beans were the best part of the meal. Again, this was unusual so we will likely be back but not for lunch in case they start the days with left overs meats again. read more

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Ordered the brisket sandwiches. Nice thick slabs piled up on a sturdy bun, layerd with cooked onions and pickles. Nice smokey flavor and not too much fat (I do think the fat is the best part though). Buttery cornbread with the texture I really like. I can only describe it as not cakey like grocery store kind. Ordered a brisket sandwich for pick up & was met with a attitude like I did something wrong. To make matters worse, the brisket was old & dry. Hard to chew & no flavor. They could've just said we ran out, and to come back tomorrow or something. Extremely dissatisfying. The Economy is too tough to be playing with people's time & money! Me and my man ordered 2 brisket empanadas.. it was literally ground beef and very greasy. We also got a full slab of ribs and the rub seasoning was overwhelming and the sauce was just watery and not tasty. I decided to scrape it off the top and add some sweet baby rays and threw it back in the oven(could've been cooked longer) the meat was still very pink The dry rub wings and collards were good, but the pulled pork sandwich had no sauce on it whatsoever very dry.. Mac and cheese had a good texture NOODLE wise but tasteless tbh... we spent about $85 wanted to try a few things but unfortunately we were not very pleased. Great barbecue super friendly staff easy parking just have to deal with the panhandlers outside looking for extra food or a handout in the parking lot. Very clean restaurant, music choices are on point. I'll be back to this location I'm normally a take out get a drink at the beer guy for the Newburgh location. The food here somehow overcame the service at the beginning. Mac and cheese was on point. Pulled pork delicious and smoky, and the cauliflower was also delicious. The space is beautiful and refreshing compared to the rest of the town. Unfortunately the woman at the counter was oddly rude, and was off putting to the entire restaurant, although other staff were very nice and friendly. Wow, I happened to drive down the right street on my way to a diner for some lunch. When I see a glimpse or whiff of BBQ...my car just stops! Drove past a couple of time and was able to find parking right in front. I could smell the smoke as I walked in. Restaurant was decorated just as you would expect in a BBQ joint. Dark wood counter, huge menu behind the counter and register. You can see your meat sliced in front of you when you stand at the counter. I was welcomed immediately and walked through any ?s about the menu. I like vinegar based slaw, so tried that with the greens(which I haven't had ham hock in years) and the fatty brisket. I measure any BBQ joint and pitmaster by the brisket. The brisket was tender and moist with incredible bark. It had the right amount of smoke and passed the "pull test" with flying colors. I enjoyed every bite. Greens where great and ham hock meat was a joy, which it just a throw back to my grandpa's greens. Everyone uses smoked turkey these days. Slaw was fine, not as vinegar-y as I expected, but had nice crunch. The last thing I will say is...THE PORTIONS WERE FANTASTIC! I got more than my moneys worth. Absolutely Outstanding BBQ - The Best in New York! What an incredible find! The two owners are absolutely amazing warm, genuine, and clearly pour their hearts into everything they serve. Their hospitality alone would earn five stars, but the BBQ takes it even further. The brisket was perfection smoky, juicy, and so tender it practically melts the moment it hits your tongue. Every bite tasted like pure craftsmanship. The ribs were equally impressive, with that perfect balance of smoke, sauce, and seasoning that's so hard to get right. And I have to say, the banana pudding deserves its own spotlight it honestly puts Magnolia Bakery's version in LA to shame. Creamy, rich, and downright addictive. Between the people, the passion, and the food, this isn't just the best BBQ in Poughkeepsie it's the best BBQ in all of New York State. I'll be back next time we visit NY. read more

We are having a BIG BD party and wanted to serve BBQ so went to Handsome Devil BBQ in Poughkeepsie for take out to try. The brisket was dry, the ribs were good, the pulled pork was in big hunks, the chicken was ok BUT the sides were awful!!! Mac n cheese- pasta very, v. overcooked and served in a soupy sauce. Beans ditto- served in soup. Cole slaw- meh! I guess we are just going to do the BBQ ourselves. First time getting BBQ from this place last night. FIVE STARS! Maybe 6. I had the brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage, turnip greens. coleslaw. All were five star! The place is downtown Poughkeepsie on Academy Street right behind the Social Security office. There is a public parking lot across the street. Go there, you will not be disappointed. My husband and I decided to try this place out and order through our phone, our grandaughter taught us door dash. We ordered the pulled pork and a honey butter corn bread. My husbands stomach has been messed up for the last 3 days and all of his waste smells like the pork. My waste too but not as bad as what he has been going through. Not only was the pork dry, it only came with a small cup of bbq sauce. It had a seasoning dust on it that truly tasted like nothing. And the "honey butter" cornbread was the driest corn bread my husband has ever had, and there was no honey or butter involved. He said it was dryer than a kfc biscuit. The pork itself was just barely edible, we ate what we could and felt bad throwing out the rest this time of year but it just wasnt good. If his stomach is still bothering him tomorrow i will be taking him to the doctor because that food has truly messed his stomach up- in a needs pepto bismol every 30 minutes for the last 3 days way. We will NEVER order from here again and will make sure all of our friends know not to either. Someone in that kitchen wasnt wearing gloves or the food was off by a few days. This barbecue place was recommended by several people on my community forum page. We took the suggestion and got take out. The first thing that I must mention is how warmly the owner treated myself and everyone who entered. We ordered the ribs, brisket, spicy Thai cauli, collards, cornbread and 2 desserts. Ive had a lot of BBQ in my time and this dinner was one of the best Q I've ever had. The ribs are meaty and juicy, not dry. The brisket was moist. The brisket came with a sauce which was good, but I would have liked a few choices included-my only suggestion. The cauli I am craving, it was just awesome. I frankly have never had a collards I liked. It's either too bland, too vinegary, too this, too that. These are THE BEST collards I've ever tasted. These people know how to taste, season and build a collard pot. The cornbread is buttery and dense, not crumbly. It stands up to the dishes and isn't too sweet. The Banana pudding and sticky something desserts were delish. I didn't get the name. Service was very good and the people were very warm and friendly. Oh! I almost forgot. While waiting, the owner gave me several slices of smoked turkey to taste. I guarantee you've never tasted turkey like this. I'm ordering it for thanksgiving. We will be going back. A lot! read more

This is one of my favorite barbecue spots of all time. I just moved up here into an apartment from a house where I used to have my own smoker that I used regularly. Somehow I got lucky enough to move about fifty feet away from some of the best barbecue I have had in my life. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful, and I've been slowly working my way through the menu. The cornbread is unbelievable, the pulled pork and brisket are also fantastic. Super tender BBQ with great flavor. Nice dry rub on the pulled pork, and brisket was just fatty enough, could almost cut with a plastic fork. Try the Cole slaw, too- a little jalapeño for sabor. I don't usually post reviews, but this place deserves it. read more
