A true farm-to-table experience! The Salt Line, tucked away at the Heartwood hotel, has an elegant atmosphere without feeling stuffy. Their promise of locally sourced ingredients shows up in each and every dish. I was blown away by the food. These are the kinds of dishes you go out for - complex, creative, and delicious. The Green Goddess salad was a standout, with impossibly crisp lettuce and a Gorgonzola dressing I'm still thinking about. I also had the House Made Rigatoni with truffle sauce, which was cooked to a perfect al dente. I added salmon, which was cooked brilliantly: a bold, peppery crust on the outside with a soft, beautifully tender interior. Finally, the garlic hummus was bursting with garlicy goodness, pairing well with the naan and dukkah. While our servers were very friendly and attentive, there were a few small fumbles, like needing to swap out a smudged wine glass. The ambiance also has some room to grow. The sticky floor, heavy/worn chairs, and sparse outdoor area were minor distractions from an otherwise lovely setting. Overall, I think The Salt Line is a fantastic restaurant that is close to being truly exceptional. Judging by past reviews vs. my actual experience, it seems receptive to feedback - I genuinely can't wait to return and see it live up to its incredible potential.

My kid is graduating so I will now reveal the best restaurant in Poughkeepsie. (I never have to fight you people for reservations again!). Service is amazing! This is a small, elegant place. Great for a serious date, proposal, or important event in your lives (like celebrating your kids admission to this great university and/or their graduation). If you're taking your kid to Vassar, this is a must. Just had my second from last meal here. Branzino was great! My wife had the vegan shepherds pie, which she loved. And miracle upon miracle, they had ube crème brûlée! IYKYK. Great local beer selection. A lot of wines on the wine list for people who are into that.

I'm not gonna lie--this whole dinner was part of a very specific mission. I was craving ribs, and…read morewhen I saw this place not only had them but also served hibiscus lemonade, I made the executive decision to have my family drive to Poughkeepsie from our bed & breakfast just to check it out. Worth it? Mostly, yes! Food: 4/5 We tried a little bit of everything, the Seared chicken breast - Hands down my favorite dish of the night. Perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and flavorful. Followed by the Bacon, egg, and homemade biscuit - A close second! The biscuit was dense and satisfying, and it had a really unique pesto-like sauce on top that made it memorable. Some other shout outs: 1) Orecchiette veggie pasta - Orecchiette is hard to find on menus, so I was delighted to see it here. It was a nice light option among our heavier dishes. 2) Jerk ribs - OK, so this is where my expectations and reality didn't fully align. They were well-cooked, but I'm a saucy girl, and these weren't as slathered or juicy as I'd hoped. That said, the rest of my table really enjoyed them. Also, that hibiscus lemonade? Chef's kiss. Refreshing and flavorful, and exactly the kind of detail that makes a place stand out to me. Service: 4/5 Now, here's where I was really surprised: one person was running the whole show. The head chef was managing the kitchen and the front of house--no servers, no extra help. Just him. For the amount of work that entails, he crushed it. Was it a bit slower than a staffed restaurant? Of course. But honestly, it gave the whole experience a humble, homegrown vibe that I appreciated. Also, it meant a lot to support a Black-owned restaurant and actually connect with the person behind the food. Final Thoughts: While we came for dinner, I could tell from the menu (and the vibe) that this place is really known for brunch. I'm genuinely curious to come back during brunch hours to see how the energy--and menu--might shift. Either way, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a spot with heart, flavor, and soul.

Definitely indulge in the grits and add the jerk ribs on top. You'll thank me later. The owner needs to thank me, too. I invented the ribs and grits, and I know they will soon be his best seller.

My daughter and I shared the Margherita pizza and the Garganelli Pasta with Short Rib Ragù, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The pizza had a perfectly crisp crust with fresh, flavorful ingredients, and the short rib ragù was rich, tender, and incredibly comforting. Since it's a brewery, I couldn't leave without trying one of their beer flights. Our server recommended a selection, and every single beer was excellent. It was a fun way to sample their craft brews, and the recommendations were spot on. The service was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the location makes it an ideal stop before or after a show at the Bardavon. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Poughkeepsie! Highly recommend.

This note is for the kitchen staff: Read the specifications on the order. When someone says they have a wheat or gluten allergy, you don't include said products. This includes your soy peanut dressing (soy sauce has wheat) which I had called the restaurant about a few minutes before I placed my order to confirm if it had any wheat or gluten products. You may end up serving it up to someone with a severe allergy and cause a lawsuit against your establishment.
