Visited with family for Father's Day and was seated pretty easily. Open at 2:00 the day and there was plenty of parking, of course it packed as soon as the dinner rush showed up, but overall it was a pretty nice affair. Open seating and a large dining room and there's several rooms off the side as well for bigger parties. Pleasant music and the food was top notch. Pretty large appetizers if you're with the group which are easy to share. One of the better Italian restaurants in the area. read more

Another excellent experience at Vesuvio's Ristorante in Newburgh! We went out to dinner with our neighbors. The appy's were excellent, the meal perfectly prepared, and great service throughout the meal. It's a great place with a warm atmosphere, the result of upgrades that we definitely not cheap. The number of quality restaurants in the Newburgh area has declined significantly in the last decade. I'm glad that Vesuvio's, which has been a staple for quality Italian food and ambiance for 10 years, is still around. Based upon how packed it was, the formula is clearly working. read more

Let me start by saying the server Jordan was top notch. The food however was not what I was expecting at all. My chicken parm was so chewy and dry and drenched in sauce with no cheese. The sauce had a spice to it that wasn't very good. My husband had the Marsala which had great in flavor but again the chicken was chewy and dry. The pasta was suppose to have garlic and oil and it was dry... It was our first time and our last time going. I was truly disappointed. read more

I've had good experiences here, and mediocre experiences. I remember the first time I went, the chicken francese was very good. But the second time, the chicken francese was a little chewy. However, I came here last weekend, and I have to say they definitely redeemed themselves! Let's first start off with the hostess that seated us. She was super super sweet and friendly. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. We didn't get a bread basket as soon as we sat down (which they normally bring out), and once she noticed, she immediately went and got us some bread. The bread basket consists of pieces of plain bread and they bring out butter which is shaped as little circle balls. For appetizer we ordered the bruschetta and fried mozzarella. I thought the bruschetta was very good, but someone else in my party wasn't crazy about it. I liked that the bread wasn't overly hard, and I thought it had good flavor. The fried mozzarella is really good but there are only 4 pieces in the order. I wish there was at least 5. For entree, we ordered the chicken francese, and the chicken parm. Our dishes came with salad and pasta. I ordered the Caesar salad and the penne alla vodka pasta. Both were sooo delicious!! The chicken francese and chicken parm were also good. My favoriteeee part of the night was the Italian cheesecake! It was absolutely fantastic! I think it's probably the best Italian cheesecake I've ever had! We also had the spumoni, which was really really good too! The cappuccino was delicious also and it came with a biscotto. Ambiance is pretty. You can wear jeans or a dress, whatever you prefer. They also have a bar area which is really nice too. My only complaint about this place is that the temperature in the room kept getting very very cold and then hot. Bill was $230 (tip not included) for 4 people. Not bad at all! Will definitely be back and I totally recommend this place!! read more

Went here as a few friends said it was very good. We had been meaning to try here many times as it's not too far from home. Went on a whim on a Tuesday night. A few tables were occupied. Upon being seated we realized the music was very loud - was pop/rock playing which we thought odd for an Italian restaurant. Waiter was nice and took our order promptly. I ordered a Caesar salad and hubby ordered a garden salad. My salad looked good - just romaine lettuce, large chunks of shaved Parmesan, a few large croutons and Caesar dressing. Went to eat it and realized I had to pick through it to find some romaine that was not brown which was almost all of it. Sadly pushed it to the side as what little I ate was good. Hubby pushed his garden salad to me and it was a large bowl of arugula swimming in oil and vinegar - it was not good. Pushed that to the side. Server brought bread and butter - we got half a loaf of Italian bread and a carafe with three small balls of butter - not enough butter for all that bread - jeez. I had ordered the shrimp and scallops in butter sauce with bow tie pasta, hubby got the chicken franchese. My butter sauce was more of a water sauce - was so drippy - had no flavor. Scallops were cooked nicely, shrimp was a bit hard, it had two pieces of asparagus swimming in the bottom and maybe two or three cherry tomatoes cut up - not appetizing at all. Hubby's chicken franchese was too thick and the lemon sauce was odd tasting. We called for some take home boxes and the check - we paid and left. We were in and out of there in a half an hour! And our waiter had no idea - while he took our order, another server brought us bread and another server brought us our food and the take home boxes. When we left he was walking with us towards the door saying thanks for coming, I appreciate you, get home safe, have a nice night, etc. Guessing he appreciated the tip even thought he didn't do hardly anything - didn't even ask how was everything, etc - he had no idea we didn't eat anything but bread. Some of the worst food I've ever tried to eat. Party of nine and one small basket of bread brought to the table with three small pats of butter. That tells me that the servers dont even get it. Stuffed mushrooms dry and old basement taste. Lemon jelletin like sauce. Calimari was ok but nothing to write home about. Salad was lettuce and dressing. Had the cod special. Two small fingers of cod. When I say raw I mean still frozen in the middle and Luke warm on the outside. They should get their microwave checked because it was clearly the way they attempted to cook it. My daughter ordered the same dish , hers was the same. It came with some brocoli that was ok but the yellow rice was as if it was cooked days ago and was still being served from the same pot. Dry ,and hard to believe , old tasting once again. Wife ordered the chicken francese. Chicken was dry and the sauce jiggled like jello when I would tap the plate. The only way to describe it is the sauce must be Jared and wasn't heated enough to liquify it completely. It came with mashed potatos. She works in a nursing home and said they tasted as if the cafeteria had prepared them. Pasta vesul soup had rancid pork or something in it. A few of us tried it and all agreed not to eat it. My daughter is a doctor and made the comment that she hoped we didn't get sick. Did not eat the cod as it was raw. Let the busboy take it away.We used to frequent vesuvios in the old days when the former owners ran it . It was always spot on and priced reasonable. Only issues we ever had was that they were never fast. I use to say that if you were planning on dinner and a movie you were gonna miss the movie.LOL. Thats the price you pay for made to order good food in a relaxed atmosphere. Tried this place after the current owner took over and remodeled and never went back. Now I know why. Only went tonight to use up a gift certificate that had been laying around since 2003. All nine of us spent an hour discussing how bad it was. read more

The ambiance, the nice building and the ample parking lot go a long way for this restaurant. It's decorated beautifully and the music is great. The coffee was strong, hot and delicious. The service was on point. The mozzarella appetizer was delicious. The Caesar salad was good, could have been fresher, you can't sleep on Caesar salad. Keep away from heat, shake and serve. Ours waited a bit too long and was pretty wilty by the time we got it. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca. Unfortunately it was not good at all. It said it was made with Madeira wine but I don't think so. It was so sweet, it was inedible. There was very little cheese and a large man's fistful of spinach. I tried to eat the plain chicken, but it was flavorless except for so much sugar. Not even garlic, I was really surprised it was so bad. That fact that it was $32 really bothers me. I will go back and try an easier dish. I want to believe this was an off night with a substitute chef or some other extenuating circumstance. I really wanted to try a Fall drink but I was driving. I really enjoyed my main course and the sangria. We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday. I will say the Cesar salad was delicious and so was the tortellini Alfredo. The flavor of the Alfredo sauce was quite delicious. We had some appetizers as well which were ok. We had the mozzarella sticks but they were overly cooked; almost burned. I did not like the bruschetta; the flavor of it was not very good. The garlic bread was ok but it did not have enough garlic. My sister ordered the bolognese and it was good as well. My niece had the chicken Parmesan but she did not like it. I thought it was ok but the noodles were a bit overcooked for me. The service was good; our waitress was nice. The food was good but I think there are other place which are better. I am not sure if I would be back. If you are in the area; I do think it would be worth a stop. read more

We were in town visiting some friends a few weeks back. It was getting around dinner time & we asked them where is a good place to eat dinner, they suggested Vesuvio's. So we called ahead & they suggested we should make a reservation, so we did. We got there, very nice looking place. We were greeted at the door, the hostess had our reservation & we were seated. So far so good. Our server was great she told us about the specials & mentioned the pasta on that dish was made fresh. So thinking that was going to be the same for all pasta dishes, well clearly the pasta we ordered on the side of our dishes was boxed, not fresh. I ordered a rib-eye medium, when it came out the steak was very fatty & tough as well as over cooked. I didn't complain about anything, however I was never asked about the cook on the steak. We ordered a shrimp cocktail I asked about how many were on the dish & was told 5, we said 3 of us wanted to eat these, she said she could add another shrimp, yet never said there would be an up-charge of $3. IMO there were many things that were not what we expected as far as quality of the food nor several other important facts. In the end, our conclusion was we would NEVER go here again, the bill was over $200 for the 4 of us which I felt was beyond excessive for the quality, or lack there of the food in general. It was a sad and expensive night of disappointment for us. From what I now see with others comments that several were also disappointed & felt overcharged for what they were given for their dinners. Also it seems like the owners never read these comments, nor do they comment about them, not a good thing JMO. read more

Fun, family friendly Italian restaurant with many tables. Staff is so kind and patient. Menu is huge, with endless combinations. You won't leave hungry, that's for sure! The calamari is good - crispy. I got the lemon veal with capers but it was overly oily/buttery. Would recommend vodka sauce on your pasta side (though it is an extra charge). Service was good, menu looked delicious. I ordered the penne ala vodka and it was just ok. I have definitely had better at other places. It tasted more like a tomato sauce. Soda was also flat. No carbonation at all which isn't probably their fault. The bread was soooo good though! My friend ordered chicken francese and she said her meal was good. Great food! I had the chicken Marsala and my husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were huge! The Marsala was excellent. We also enjoyed the Caesar salad and bread that came with the meal. Our service was friendly and efficient! The ambiance was very nice. We were there on a night that snow was predicted and didn't have trouble getting a seat, but we overheard someone saying they couldn't believe they were able to get a seat without reservations. So call ahead for reservations as this place is busy as most good restaurants are. read more

Vesuvio's is an excellent restaurant if you want some solid Italian food. The portions are large and are generous so definitely arrive hungry. We ordered crab cakes and they had a special of pumpkin raviolis which I split for an appetizer. Both were excellent. My father had the Osso Bucco with potato and I had the Eggplant parm with a side of rigatoni. For desert we had the Tiramisu and Bread pudding with a side of ice cream. Again, all delicious. The young waitress we had was kind and worked hard to serve us. As far as the restaurant itself is concerned, the place after 5 pm was packed. If I were to give some advice, either have a reservation OR if you're a walk-in, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night, you should have reservations. I would recommend this for good Italian food. read more

ok so. I was so excited to come here after all the ravings from my co-workers. Well, I was so disappointed. I love Italian food. I knew the food wasn't going to be any good from the begining. They brought out Potato bread buns to the table. No Italian bread. WTF! Then I order a house salad with blue cheese dressing. The waitress brings my salad with the dressing already on it. OMG! Never seen anything like that before. Now I order Chicken Marsala, discusting. Never ever have I had Chicken Marsala taste that bad. My boyfreind ordered Chicken Parm. the dish was full of loose water/sauce on the bottom of the plate. Terrible!!!!! Eat at your own risk. I've had better Italian food on NYC streets. This aint it at all. People who eat here obviously don't know what good Italian food tastes like. Bye! read more

Although the waiter has a 5 star personality he was not 109% on service Waters not kept full No specials were offered Child's meal includes beverage and ice cream yet not offered We really only came for soup so the food really isn't part of the review Italian wedding soup had a very fresh taste The chowder hit the spot but me ordering chowder in an Italian joint was faux pas. My fault but I love that soup( needed more clans though) Gelato and brownie Sunday ( our fault but my daughters fave dessert) they have an excellent selection of Italian desserts Will definitely be back and hopefully update that 3 star to a 4 read more

I was really on the fence between four and five stars. The food was fantastic, as were the drinks. However, the service was very slow. We had to ask several times for more bread and the only reason we even asked for that is because the appetizer was taking so long. It did not seem to be that busy and although they did have a lot of tables the place was still not full. The Penne à la Vodka was fantastic, the calamari appetizer when it did show up was delicious, and my friend enjoyed her chicken piccata. I would definitely go back, this is a beautiful venue. I just think the server could've been a little bit more attentive. read more

We were seated right away but waited quite awhile for someone to come over and acknowledge we were there. Finally our waitperson came for a drink order. Some in our party ordered drinks and some just water. Then we waited again for drinks and I was surprised that everyone was not also given water. As we had ordered already we got our appetizer of fried calamari fairly quickly. It was okay. Nothing special. My order of gnocchi tasted like supermarket gnocchi in jarred sauce cover wya thick layer of melted mozzarella. It wS gummy, tasteless and should be put back on the shelf. I didn't taste the others meals but nothing looked that appealing. The service was minimal at best No one came over to ask if everything was ok, however, they were quick to clear dishes and then we waited again for the check. I'll just say there was lots of down time. The ambience could use an update or if it's supposed to be like an old fashioned Italian restaurant than better old fashioned Italian food. read more

She did not come back for the next 25 minutes. Comes back to take our order and I ask about the bread...she states someone else was supposed to bring it. Takes order and we don't see her again. Meanwhile servers are buzzing about taking care of their customers. I hear other servers sharing the days special and was disappointed our server did not. Both dishes we ordered were overcooked and no flavor. Dessert...I asked about two of the choices and her shrug just wrapped up the evening. Reviews state it is a hit or miss. I had our daughters Bridal shower at Vesuvio's. We had a private room, gave our guests the option of 6 entrees, served family style appetizers and had an open bar. The staff could not have been better - they made our guests feel at home, they did not rush us and the event was everything we could have asked for. Everyone raved about the food and the portions were huge that almost everyone had some to take home. Went here last night for dinner with another couple. The place was packed and we were glad to have a reservation. We were seated right away. With little to absorb the sound it was quite loud and conversation was a bit difficult. But as people left it did quiet down. I had the rigitoni vesuvio with chucken. It was really good. My wife had farfalle with shrimp and scallops. She loved it. The other couple had veal marsala and a fish dish with flounder, shrimp and scallops. They were both very happy with their meals. My only real criticism is with the salads. They were suppose to have a balsamic dressing...I don't think anyone remembered to put it on. They were tasteless . We stopped by on our way back from the Catskills to the city and mainly because we all really needed to go to the bathroom. Well, I'm sure glad we did because everyone was so super nice here. The food is yummy and I can't stop thinking about their triangle-shaped fried mozzarella. Much better than those sticks that most people have. My favorite part about this quick meal was that our server was so much fun to talk to. She was super sweet and told us about her brother that lives in California who she says is convinced is gay but he says he's totally not. LOL. Either way. It was hilarious. Most importantly, I'm not even from the New York area and have never been to the Catskills and honestly don't even remember the name of the town this restaurant is in but one they thing were good at was making people feel like they were at home.
