This place is an off-the-beaten-path hidden gem. I ordered grilled fish tacos and a spicy jalapeño margarita, and everything was delicious. I loved that they brought chips and house-made salsa to the table, and when I asked for some extra spicy options, they brought out a couple of house-made sauces. My favorite was the habanero. First thing I notice was the welcoming decor once I walked in. The decor reminds me of being at home. I love how clean and tidy it is. The food was really good. We have eaten there before and have loved it. But last night was a disaster. Because it was Cinco de Mayo, we made reservations ahead for 6pm. We arrived at 6 and the place was packed. At about 6:10 we were seated, with menus. At about 6:15 a bowl of chips were brought over, and that was the last we saw of our server. We saw people seated after us getting their drinks and food, paying their bill and leaving. And several tables turn over. We kept trying to catch the eye of any one of the wait staff running around, but they looked the other way. By 7:15, and 1 1/4 hours after being seated, we still hadn't ordered! We got up and left, informing the waitress that more than an hour after arrival, we never got to order. The food is terrific here, but there are plenty of good mexican restaurants where we would not be treated so shabbily. We never even had water brought to the table. Do better. We drove around looking for somewhere else to eat, but every place was packed. We ended up at an Indian restaurant, Tanjore (great place), in Fishkill where we finally had dinner at 8. 2 hours after arriving at Azteca and not being served. read more

Azteca Grill & Bar may be the best kept secret in the Fishkill and Wappingers area. I didn't know it even existed until yesterday. And I'd be hard pressed to find anything to complain about with this restaurant. They check every box with ease. The food is well-prepared and delicious. The portion size is also just right. (I actually don't like a burrito the size of a football like some restaurants serve.) Moreover, Azteca gives you a free cup of chicken tortilla soup, and a free flan dessert, in addition to the usual chips & salsa. The service is also excellent and attentive. The waiter offered to bring me more rice and beans if I wanted, and they are on top of the drink orders. And who doesn't like a clean restaurant? This place is immaculate! Came here with my friends last night and we were AMAZED at this place. The place looks unassuming for the outside but don't let that fool you. The food was so delicious- the soup appetizer was perfect and we loved the house made salsa. The meals were all incredible and the service was impecable- the staff members Elizabeth & Cindy went out of their way to take care of us and make sure that we had an amazing experience, even taking the time to make us ice cream sundaes to finish dinner with! I ordered Gringo tacos. They arrived with soggy lettuce that made the tacos unpleasant to eat. The beef taco contained a gummy beef . The service was excellent as was the guacamole. Ambiance was great with delightful masks, sombreros and flags. read more

Stopped in here on a whim.....wow was I glad I did. Inside is very spacious, clean and cute, not your normal overdone interior....really nice. I was met by a nice girl who took my to-go order and asked me to sit at the pretty bar where she brought me complimentary salsa and chips while I waited. Both were delicious and homemade. I got the cheese enchilada with red sauce and it was really delicious...I was very impressed with the hot cheese sauce and green sauce they gave me....both were fantastic! Something about the whole meal in it's entirety just went so well together....I am getting hungry just thinking about how great and complementary all the flavors were. I cannot wait to go back and will get the same thing. I hope the word gets out how great they are since they are not on a main road!! Oh and prices were great also! read more

Azteca on Osborne Hill Road in Wappingers is a hidden gem! I couldn't get the phone number to work, so I stopped in to order at the bar--and I'm so glad I did. The staff was welcoming and even gave me a free chicken tortilla soup while I waited. It was packed with flavor and tasted homemade, just like everything else. We ordered taco salads and a steak special, and both were fantastic. Their hot sauces are a must-try. Keep in mind, they're cash-only for now, but there's an ATM on-site. Highly recommend! read more

My first time ordering from this restaurant, I did Uber Eats. I ordered a red snapper with vegetables a side of toast with rice and black beans. Presentation was great. Red snapper is delicious with the red sauce. I didn't get the vegetables I wanted and the plantains were supposed to be tostones. When I called the Restaurant, Fernando said he will make it right and I could come in and get my Tostones and the vegetables I was supposed to get. Great customer service I will order again. Matter of fact I will visit the restaurant. read more

I went to Azteca recently for the first time and ordered their Tinga de Pollo enchiladas. The man who waited on me, the owner/manager, I suspect, was very attentive and interested in my tastes. I told him that I'd grown up in chile country in southern New Mexico and loved spicy food, much spicier than most other people in these parts. He brought out four bottles of different house-made salsas for me and also suggested a fifth, a mango-habañero salsa, which was sublime. When the Tinga de Pollo enchiladas came, they were unlike any other chicken enchiladas I've ever eaten -- nuanced and complex, yet hearty - and the mango-habañero salsa complemented it perfectly. The rice was also excellent. My only disappointment was the frijoles, which lacked heartiness and flavor, as I mentioned to the manager, who agreed that the beans should really have been refried. Also, if the chips had been fresher and there been the choice of a spicy salsa as an appetizer, I'd rate Azteca five stars. The service is attentive, even gracious, and the prices are reasonable.
