So glad to discover this gem while visiting Catskill! I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and the food on the buffet line looked and smelled incredible. There were so many options, including goat, oxtail, pigs feet and more popular proteins like pernil, chicken and beef. My fiance and I decided to share a large plate and I'm so glad we decided to share because the portion was HUGE!! We got yellow rice, black beans, stewed chicken, pernil and maduros all piled high on a plate. We also got a bottle of water and a tamarind Jarritos soda. They had a ton of different bottled beverages and a few desserts options too. They also have many made to order menu items, including Mofongo. The food was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. Everything was cooked to perfection. We also loved their housemade jalapeno hot sauce. The food is Dominican Food, not Puerto Rican. They have a couple of Puerto Rican picks. The Food is good, tasty but salty. They do have variety of options for protein. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Hopefully they can turn down the music. read more

Was feeling hungry and decided to come here. I am glad that we did. Even though we stopped by late at night and they were getting close to closing, there was still a good amount to choose from. We got both beef stew and chicken stew. It was delicious. The large plate was really large and you get to select 2 items. The chicharron was so perfectly crispy. Beef stew had great flavor and the yellow rice was awesome. Chicken stew was juicy. Service was fast and place was not large but was nice inside. Good for smaller groups. The food here was SO GOOD. The portions were generous. Food was seasoned perfectly, and the meats we chose were very tender. I had brown rice w oxtail my friend had white rice w red beans and stewed pork(pernil guisado) we also shared chicharrón and empanada. The morir soñando was really good too. Overall I have no complaints. The size small plate could feed two people! Prices are reasonable as well. Definately give it a try. If im in the area I would absolutely make a stop here. read more

Four of us came in here, mostly based on the extraordinary number of positive reviews. It's a small restaurant with a deli type set up. There's no air conditioning so be aware of that. They're about six tables. The rice and beans were very good and there was plenty of that. However, most of the other food was fried. Also a lot of the food was over fried. We're not gonna go here again because the variety and the quality just weren't up to our expectations. I wondered whether some of these reviews are entirely genuine. read more

I've gotten most everything here except I'm still waiting to try the mofongo. it's a great take away spot but also pleasant to eat inside. everything is done pretty well... chicken and pork are always cooked to texture perfection. the oxtail was good with enough meat and not all gelatinous cartilage like in places I've had prior. sometimes it's a little unclear how much can go on a plate versus charged as a side as has happened to me when getting plantains. the price is decent and the selection is large. I can't eat here all the time because of the high salt content but I definitely enjoy it around once a week when eating out. don't miss out on the condiments in the drink/dessert fridge! read more

The menu is not the most useful thing, let's get that out of the way. Just go in there. The offerings change and I just go in and ask what the food is. A small is PLENTY because they load it up with rice, but bang-for-your-buck-wise the large is the way to go. The empanadas aren't over full, but delicious for the cost. The portions are generous, the staff is friendly, there are a couple tables inside, and some prepackaged (looks like) desserts or sides in the fridge with sodas. I've yet to be disappointed or hungry when I'm done - trust me though, skip the menu, go in and ask for whatever looks good to you. Absolute gem in Catskill. read more

Lol Angel's has been very consistent since we first came here - everything is nice and clean - no cross contamination of foods - Staff very friendly and generous with potions! The food is delicious! We are in the area for a weekend getaway and due to our late arrival and overwhelming hunger, opted to find something quick and easy. There is limited indoor seating but the food is plenary and continues to be refilled! I had the yellow rice, red beans and pork. It was amazing! read more

Today, 15Dec2024, was my first time to visit this restaurant. I had done a search in Yelp for puerto rican food because the place I used to go to has closed. Also, it was a nice day in December and I wanted to go for a drive. When this option in Catskill came up, I was excited to go check it out. I've been to Catskill many times when I would get service done on my car but I have never really been for food options, even though there are so many good options in the area (or at least they read that way on Yelp). Giving props to other Yelp reviewers for not letting me down. Yes, the food smell is amazing, like it was cooked in a family kitchen. There are 3 options (small, medium, or large). I chose medium ($14.00) and had to take home a portion of my meal because there was too much food. I opted for the yellow rice (white rice is available) with red beans (black beans available), the stewed pork (so many protein options!!!), and some plantains ($1.50 more). You can get it to go or eat in. I was starving and wanted to enjoy it right away, so I opted to eat in. I probably could have eaten it all, but didn't want to be stuffed or make myself feel sick. It was truly so good it was hard to stop. To wash it down, I selected a can of of the coconut water ($3.00) from the cooler that all types of beverages. All in all, this was excellent food, a large portion (for a medium plate), and exceptional value (honestly, enough food for two people). I highly recommend and will come back again... and get the small plate so that I don't eat too much! read more

Food is great delicious even for a vegetarian. The rice and beans and the yucca are dynamite. My family are carnivores and they love most dishes. There is no ambiance to speak of. It's a steam table cafeteria style and no A/C so you are uncomfortable waiting in the line but it moves pretty quickly. It's not expensive but it should be a little cheaper. read more

Was looking for lunch in Catskill and when we saw there was a Latin restaurant went right for it. We had the pernil and baked chicken. The pernil was as good as I've had homemade. The chicken was excellent. Yellow rice and black beans perfect. We ate in and it was clean and comfortable. Prices were low. I look forward to returning. read more

Drove 40 minutes to get to Angel's, but I'm happy to say it was well worth it. I've been looking for an upstate version of my favorite NYC Dominican/Puerto Rican restaurants, and Angel's made a strong showing. I got the the pernil, rice and beans, with a side of tostones: all delicious, authentic, and perfectly cooked. Looking forward to trying some more of their dishes. This is my new favorite place in Catskill. You can eat in but it's more oriented towards take-out. You basically get a big helping of rice and beans with protein selection from the chaffing dishes. Be sure to top it with the pickled onions and hot chiles. Everything is delicious, and I mean delicious. I always tell myself I'm going to stop half way and save some for later. I have been driving by this place on and off for...awhile! Finally had the chance to stop for take out today and wow! The service was excellent, the portions were PLENTY and the price was very fair. Brought it home to my husband who is somewhat picky...and we both thought it was great! We had a small with black beans and some sort of very dark chicken on the bone (falling off) and a medium with red beans and chicken in a red broth. Both excellent. If I could have removed a half star it would have been because both dishes were on the salty side. Have a water or a cold beer on the side! Try Angels if you're in Catskill! read more

The pollo guisado is so moist and delicious and the meat falls right off the bone. They are so nice and generous and made fresh hot chicharron especially for us when they had run out. They are one of those places that still remembers that if you keep your prices low and your food delicious, you get more customers-- this place is always bustling so you know the food is freshly made and well loved.
