a plate of food with rice and beans

Mi Sabor we have to say was Pretty Dope!! After finishing up some errands, we were famished and ran in hoping to grab some quick eats. Jackpot!! Inside they have coolers for your thirst and for dessert. What made it really a win was that the food was hot and ready to go whether you want to dine in or do takeout. The young lady at the counter was not only giving A-1 customer service, she also made it a point to inform customers of what they ordered based on the menu pictures had a variation based on how things were prepared that day. When it comes to food, people have a expectation about what their food looks like and she definitely understood the assignment (clapping hands emoji). We decided to share a plate and ordered the carne de res with arroz blanco y habichuelas. They had just run out of Maduros, so she asked the chef for a fresh order and they were out in 5 min!! Perfecto!! And how can we forget the Mexican Coca Cola?!!! Best lunch by far for 2 Jenns on the run eatin!!! Can't wait to come back for more!!

No prices on the menu, but people probably come in knowing what they want to order and the going price.

This place is a little mysterious. No prices displayed, no English descriptions, just photos and names of dishes. But there was a steady stream of customers ordering stuff from the steam table, and the space is appealingly spacious and clean. We talked to the guy behind the counter and ended up with food that was made to order: a mango smoothie, a chicken-and-cheese empanadilla, a plate with two fried fish fillets and a small tower of mofongo and a separate side salad (simple but fresh, with white vinegar on the side for dressing). Everything was tasty and the total came to $20, which seemed very reasonable. If we were in town longer, it would be fun to become masters at steam table ordering!

This is a neat place. Inside it is spacious and there are enough tables. Jugo de parcha, which is passion fruit drink, was my favorite. I think it was made fresh after I ordered. Chicharron was good as well. It came with mofongo. For my spice level, I added some Frank's hot sauce to it.

Great Dominican spot! The Picalonga was delicious. The place had great service and was very accommodating. Definitely recommend it.

My usual go to foods are alcapurrias, morcilla, cuchofrito. They did have alcapurrias $1.25 which is not bad, but the quality of it is not worth it. Is was about 2 fingers width and thickness. To have been 10 something in the am I could tell that this was not freshly made Today which is disappointing as well. Besides it being cold and dry the ends were hard. First and last time trying those at this location. I got a little plate to go of if arroz con gandules y pernil for my husband. I am hoping that we have a better outcome on the taste. Oh, not for nothing but thank god I wasn't in a major rush or distracted by other customers as I was the only one there as I gave the cashier a $20 and she gave me back the incorrect change. Honest mistake I guess but I know if I just grabbed my money and kept it moving I wouldn't have been able to go back and inform them I was short changed. Arroz con gandules y pernil is fresh, seasoned well and very very good !!!!! I would recommend someone try that !!

Duck wasn't on the menu so I went with fish. My meal came with rice and beans. The rice was delicious, flavorful and fluffy. I could have had the rice alone and would have been fulfilled. For me personally the rice was the best part. Onto the main attraction, I had some sort of fish cooked with tomatoes. A tad salty for my taste but I believe that's typical of the food from that area. I don't have prior experiences to compare to so as of right now the food was interesting enough for me to go try other items on the menu. For $7 I would say that's not too bad for something I can't cook myself. It's unique enough for me to enjoy. I look forward to going in and picking out my own dishes. My takeout experience didn't make me sick so that's sufficient enough of a reason for me to give them another try when I want to go beyond the Jamaican restaurants.

1.) Reason for ordering: I ordered take out from this place…read morein the evening. I had the privilege to eat this takeout with one of my most closest Yelper/Non-Yelper friends, Sanh A. We wanted to see what this place was all about. I was also able to order with a couple other people, so it made things more eventful. 2.) The Food: I can only speak on behalf of what I ate. The alcapurria was not the best in my eyes, *clears throat* , I mean, mouth. I ordered the Alcapurria, and was able to dabble into Sanh A's Bacalao with yellow rice and beans (kidney and pigeon peas). My other friends ordered the Pork Pasteles (pork and other mixture wrapped in a dark green banana leaf, then boiled), and fried plantains. It was suppose to be a I believe mashed up yuca, green banana or plantain with seasoned ground beef in the middle and fried. The taste was sweet, which I liked, though I thought it would be salty. But it had little to no meat in the middle. Plus, it was overly cooked in some areas. I'd prefer an over cooked alcapurria than just having it cooked in some areas. The bacalao with rice and beans were okay. I have to eat bacalao that's supposedly not salty. My Dominican and Puerto Rican people tell me, "what, Anthony? You've never had it unsalted?!?" Yeah, that's right, bacalao in the several hundred experiences of eating it has ALWAYS been super salty. This dish deviated a little but it still was salty. The best part of the plate was the yellow rice and beans. No clumps, no overcooked and burnt parts (although, in latin caribbean cultures the bottom of the pot, which is burnt, is a delicacy). 3.) My Impressions: Don't follow me exactly on this, because I did order it to go, adding in the time it took to get it and bring it back to my place, so I know thing can get mushy in the process. If the quality was as bad dining in, then to be quite honest, I'd rather go to my family's house where they cook this on a daily basis. La Casona would be my alternative. I will have to give this place another try and dine inside to get the overall experience.
