This place is the real deal. Great environment, authentic music and very good food and margaritas.

I stopped in for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon after visiting the quilt shop up the street and had the whole place to myself. Edwin, my server, was very attentive to my needs. Do not order the chicken burrito. It was ground chicken with a few black beans and too much rice and a very small amount of melted cheese on top. It was very dry. It's comes on a small plate which also had about 1 teaspoon each of guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo which is a small amount of plain cut-up tomatoes. The price of my chips and salsa was $9.50 total because I got tomatillo salsa and asked for a taste of the chunky salsa which they charged $1.50 for. The outside deck seating was nice at lunchtime in the summer. Spicy margarita came in a short glass for $12.50. They did not have a lunch menu. read more

We came here for dinner on a Sunday night. It was quite busy. They don't have a dedicated hostess counter, but one of the waitresses came over to take us to a table. Service throughout the meal was painfully slow. There were only two waitresses working the entire restaurant, including an outdoor patio area. They were doing their absolute best, but it was just too much for two people. One of the waitresses didn't seem too familiar with the table identification system. Whenever a dish came out from the kitchen, she'd ask several different tables if the dish was what they ordered, seemingly having no idea which food belonged to which party. This was pretty bizarre and inefficient. They apparently forgot about our order. We ordered nachos as an appetizer, but they didn't come out until after our entrees arrived so we didn't end up keeping them. They did provide complimentary chips and black bean dip, so we at least had something to munch on during the long wait. We saw several tables that received no service at all, and folks had to get up to ask for their check and pay, because the waitresses were just too busy to stop by the tables. For an entree, I had the veggie tacos. The veggies included squash, zucchini, and onions. An order came with three tacos, as well as red and green salsa, black bean dip, and rice. The rice was mushy and the black bean dip wasn't super flavorful. The tacos were okay, but made better by a dousing of habanero hot sauce. My husband also got a horchata beverage and enjoyed it. I felt bad for the waitresses, as there was only so much they could do. In addition to serving, they bussed the tables, prepared the drinks, and served as hostesses. Large selection of Mexican food. Both the Steak ala Mexicana and steak tacos were delicious! Service was friendly and attentive.

Overall I was satisfied with my experience here; the service was solid and the food was above average. My son had a burger and fries but it wasn't so great but I guess thats what you expect at a mexican place; its what he wanted. I had the shrimp fajitas and I loved the overall meal and taste but I was a little disappointed it only had 5 shrimp; 6 wouldve been better, 7 would've great for 20 bucks. In any case, again there are very limited options especially at this price point in the area so in all likelihood, i'll be back here when i'm in the area. read more

The service was terrible. No one brought us water. We had to ask for the menu. The waiter was very inattentive and disappeared. At times. It seemed he didn't want to be there. The food was minimal. There was hardly any chicken in the fajitas. The chicken in the Hawaiian chicken was overcooked And nothing was Hawaiian about it . When you walk in you know that Zicatellas is Muy authentic!! Wish I took pics of food before I quickly ate it up. Oh the tortilla chips are restaurant style and homemade. My wife and I were staying in Windham at a hotel, weren't sure of which place to stop by for dinner, and were really pleased to find some of the best Mexican food we'd had in a while after we'd settled on this restaurant. I got the chimichanga with steak, while my wife got the fajita with shrimp. They made a mistake by instead giving her chicken -- totally fine -- but our server offered a free drink to make up for it, which we accepted. This isn't a place I'd recommend for ambiance -- although the porch area looked fine (it was a little too chilly outside to use, and there weren't any heaters out there) -- but I'd give this the highest rating on food alone. The chimichanga was just the right mixture of crispy and moist, and what I tried of my wife's fajita was juicy and nicely caramelized. Very timely, too: our dishes came out not even ten minutes after we'd ordered. read more

For starters it's a tight restaurant, looks nice but feels crowded when there's only a few people there. If you're a table of 2 you will be sat at the 2 tops in the middle with no choice of something more out of the way (even if all the other tables are empty). The food was meh... pretty okay not the best not the worst , but it did mess me up the next morning. I asked for chimichangas, which on the menu are presented with a red sauce. They came out and had no sauce. I asked about it and the server said that's only in the picture. I asked for a sauce to drizzle over it as it was dry... and was charged $5 for it. just ate there again, I swear it gets better each time, great food, service and price

So I went early (5 ) to avoid the Saturday crowd. Only three people at an inside table. I sat outside and after ten minutes I had to go inside to request a menu. The two waitresses were sitting a table talking. When she came to take my order she didn't seem to understand and got the other waitress. This happened several times and I was told she didn't speak English. I had guacamole which was fresh and good. The three tacos were very oily and I couldn't order one chicken and two beef. It's all three of the same- no mixing. House rules. It was very frustrating when I asked a question to have to wait until she brought out the English-speaking waitress. This happened four or five times. The menu boasts charcoal steak but had to admit their was no charcoal. The menu is all over the place but who wants pasta in a Mexican restaurant? When you serve such a wide range of food it becomes more like a diner. The wine list is limited, inexpensive and three different varietals provided by one producer. Sounds like the winery gave then a deal. It felt very amateurish and there was no manager on the floor or that I saw. That being said, and to be perfectly fair, I spoke to three or four people I know and they all said the same thing: food good -service bad. I will go back and try some more dishes and hopefully be able to upgrade this review. The owner has his original place in Saurgeties and maybe that is the problem. I've eaten at Zicatela's numerous times including their busy opening night and throughly enjoyed my meals every time. The service has always been friendly and efficient. Their margaritas are fantastic and the fresh flower garnish is beautiful. The Chicken Street Tacos, Chimichanga and Quesadillas are excellent! I especially love the Duo Enchiladas, their Mole and Tomatillo sauces are homemade and delicious! The owners Augie and Carmela are so kind and hospitable. This is authentic Mexican food made by Mexican chefs. It doesn't get more authentic then this! Enjoy!! read more

I am a kind person and never wrote a negative review but service was nonexistent for us. We had a 7:00 reservation, got seated fifteen or twenty minutes late and by 7:28 we left since they never took our order. We left and found a nicer venue at a bar. They can learn to be attentive. read more
