This place has a great atmosphere, plays great music and is very clean. The service was great all very friendly and attentive even though they were pretty busy. The food was okay, we ordered a few different things from the menu and they just didn't live up to the hype. Though I will say the pizza has a great crust. Placed a $100 order today and when we picked it up at 1pm we figured it was okay to eat there since the place was EMPTY. Apparently it's a policy to not allow paying customers to eat if they ordered to go. The bartender was so rude about it and told me if it wasn't a policy she wouldn't have told me that but I asked if that policy was online or on a menu and it's not. I eat here all the time and bring people when they visit me from out of town. Unfortunately it's not that good enough for me to continue coming when the staff is just rude. So this place is basic. I ordered the Gangnam Style Burger and it was not great. I honestly was having a hard time remembering what it tasted like between bites. We ordered the lemonade which I was told was very good in the past. There was absolutely no sugar in it. I'm not expressing this from a diabetic sweet tea type of standard. I'm talking ZERO sugar in the lemonade. The server had to bring us some packets since the kitchen was closing soon and whoever had been responsible for making the lemonade completely dropped the ball and wasn't interested in correcting the mistake. I was in town for the thanksgiving weekend and happened to stumble across Churchkey's social media page and they had some 4roses 130th anniversary in! At $20 for a 2oz sample, the pricing is spot on. I only came for this and for a second drink, I asked the bartender for a whiskey sour. Well, let's just say I'll never be asking for one of those. ***2.5 stars*** after seeing the menu, and location, i was quite excited to try this place after completing my epic marathon in modesto. unfortunately, my post-race celebratory meal fell a bit flat... parking wasn't bad, even though the dedicated lot was small, we lucked out and got a space quite easily. and there was street parking available as well, for those who couldn't get a space in the lot. i came with my hubby and friend, and upon arrival, there appeared to be a few parties ahead of us, but no hostess, so we were a bit confused....apparently, we were supposed to seat ourselves and then someone would come take our order. finding a table for 3 wasn't difficult - despite the fact that it was 13.00, this place was quite spacious inside, with plenty of tables outside as well. there were also a ton of runners who had just finished their respective races (marathon, half marathon, 5k) as i could see from the race tshirts and medals worn by other guests. we ordered within a few minutes, and that's when the wait began.... my friend and i only asked for water, but hubby ordered a diet coke, and waited nearly 30 minutes for this cold beverage to be brought out...i mean, how difficult is it to get a diet coke?? while we waited, i was regretting not ordering a pastry or something simple that didn't require cooking since i was getting pretty hungry. even though i had some electrolyte fluids and a few snacks immediately after the race, i had just run 26.2 miles, and walked a few blocks, so i was getting pretty hangry (and it was nearing 3 hrs since i had crossed the finish line....if you're a runner reading this, you know what i mean). the waiter came over a couple of times to inform us that our orders had not been forgotten, but the kitchen staff was just very busy, and backed up with the high number of orders. at one point, i actually ran out to the car and ate a bar b/c i just couldn't wait any longer and i didn't want to get lightheaded or deprive my muscles of much needed glycogen to begin the recovery process. more than an hour passed before our food finally arrived... hubby had ordered the cornerstone burger with tater tots, which arrived on a metal sheet pan...nicely presented, with lots of hollandaise. as for the taste, he said it was just average, and certainly not worth over an hour to prepare. i ordered the brunch special, huevos rancheros with soy-chorizo. when i asked the waiter, he told me that this wasn't a spicy dish, but when i tasted it, i did get a kick, maybe b/c i'm a spice wimp, but i was a bit disappointed. the rest of the dish tasted fine, but i felt it was a bit small, and i was still a bit hungry when i finished - mind you i ate every bite. fortunately, the bill came rather quickly, and we were able to pay and leave in a reasonable amount of time after finishing our food. the restrooms, i will say, were well-appointed and clean...however, they were out of paper towels, so i had to tell one of the staff members. it's possible we came on an off day, but i really was not impressed with this restaurant. slow service + mediocre food + smaller than average portions do not make for an ideal post-marathon meal. read more

The Central Valley of California gets a bad rap, and sometimes it deserves it and sometimes it doesn't. This is the type of place that thinks it's "so cool" because it's in Modesto, but honestly, there really is better. Those better places are in the Bay Area. This place -thinks- it is cool because there are not a lot of places like this (see the equally underwhelming Commonwealth). These places have an overinflated sense of self. The waiter was nervous. He served us dirty water. Gross. The wait for the food was also very long. Unless it's gotten better, don't think you can go quickly in and out --you'll end up here for here for over 90 minutes. They had great chicken wings. The burger was decent, but certainly not worth the price they charged. My friends and I seated ourselves, as directed by the sign up front. We were ignored for at least 10 minutes before one of us got up to ask for menus. We got them from the busser. Then after another 15, we grabbed a passing server and told her we wanted to order drinks. She took exactly one drink order, ignored the rest of us and ran off. When she returned with the lone drink she tried to run away again without taking anyone else's drink order. Argh. On to the food. Our pizzas were messed up twice. I went to Churchkey's last year in May, and yes it's been a long coming since I've reviewed this place. My two friends and I came the day we were going to graduate from high school and had an amazing time. When you enter, it feels fresh and modern. The tables are comfortably close to one another, and the bar (thing idk what it's called okay, dudes) has a lot of choices for 21+ people (again, it's only been a year still not 21 so...moving on). The vibe doesn't feel busy, or anxious but just chill, y'kno. The employees are happy to help if you're confused with the menu, or want more water, etc. My friends and I ordered pizzas which we all enjoyed with tator tots (which is different than what most restaurants would have). Overall, happy staff, interesting choices on the menu (yet so delicious), and epic experience. They have a great beer/drink menu, outdoor area with music, and screens for gameday. Foodwise, we had ordered the brunch specials-- chorizo and potato pizza, Plaid hash (brisket with sweet potato, peppers, and eggs), and waffle. The chorizo pizza was solid, although they did go pretty crazy with the olive oil. The chorizo wasn't too spicy and the potatoes gave a nice texture, although I'd recommend a solid texture like corn to it. Plaid hash was solid and the brisket was nice and tender. Waffle was nothing special but was cooked well. Drink-wise they have a very solid beer menu (even have 2015 Bourbon County Stout bottled for $25). They also have a large variety of cocktails and solid whiskeys. Now for the service... we were seated right away but never had a waitress come to our table after waiting for 15 minutes. The host that sat us down eventually took our orders. My sister had ordered a Wasabi Bloody Mary only to have a Michelada brought to our table. When we asked if the drink was a Michelada instead of a Bloody Mary, the waitress said she "thinks" it was. hmmm... When they switched out her drink for a Bloody Mary, it came back extreeemely salty. My sis drinks Dirty Martini's on the regular and even she thought it was unbearable. We stopped going to Commonwealth a long time ago because as soon as the "guy" showed up, their customer service went south & food was not the same. We were told it's because since the show aired, they can't keep up w/ business as it exploded. I get that. But, never forget who was there in the beginning when you started. Their customer service is horrible, especially from Amanda. I was told that from other people as well. But I always form my own opinion. Asked on a freezing, cold, rainy, winter night to turn heater up & close garage style window/door as I was with my daughter & we were shivering in our knee high Hunter boots w/long socks on underneath, she said she couldn't because the "bigger" party that was sitting by this door didn't want it closed.
