I've gone there three times. The first two times served by chill and efficient gentleman. He had glasses, he was a cool and helpful brother. Didn't have the food, but look decent. Drinks were great. Third time I was excited to eat so I returned and asked if we can chill outside. They said okay. They should of said no, if they were able to serve us. We waited, and asked and waited some more. Our waitress never came. So we rode off. I wanted to try it again but the last time left a bad impression we ended up going to Bob's burgers down the street. So this place is basic. I ordered the Gangnam Style Burger and it was not great. I honestly was having a hard time remembering what it tasted like between bites. We ordered the lemonade which I was told was very good in the past. There was absolutely no sugar in it. I'm not expressing this from a diabetic sweet tea type of standard. I'm talking ZERO sugar in the lemonade. The server had to bring us some packets since the kitchen was closing soon and whoever had been responsible for making the lemonade completely dropped the ball and wasn't interested in correcting the mistake. Is churchkey homophobic, racist, or classist? I was looking forward to enjoying the food and atmosphere here with my cousin for his birthday. I usually have a great time here (when I come in wearing my work clothes, long hair, and name badge). On this occasion, (in regular clothes, shaved hair, and without a name badge) we sat at the bar to no avail. We didn't receive any services, other than being served some water. It wasn't busy and the staff members closest to us, stood there, continuously saying they would assist us (while drying some glasses). After waiting patiently for a significant amount of time.. To be fair, food here deserves 3.5 to 4 stars. I heard it's the same management as Commonwealth. I would say food quality is higher here. However, on a Friday night, this place is pretty understaffed. We had to wait at least 20 minutes before we can even order drinks (if you are hungry, you'd better order all the food at one time), and waited for at least 30 minutes before all of our food, including an appetizer, showed up all together. Food: · Cauliflower bite $10 (3 stars) - To make this dish better, all they gotta do is to cut the cauliflower into smaller pieces. We got thd buffalo garlic sauce (pretty spicy and sour) and the curry sauce (gingery and creamy) ·Hellapainyo Pizza $14 (3.5 stars) - I really like the toppings, which included fennel sausage, smoked provolone, Calabrian sweet pepper, fried picked jelepano, and caramelized onions. The dough was neither thick nor thin, I say make it a little thinner is the way to go ·G.A.F bowl $12, seasonal (3 stars) - The description sounded so good from the menu. The bowl came with grilled beets, sweet potato, cauliflower, kale (I tolerate this one!), carrots and farro. In reality, the grilled vegetables was cold. For example, roasted beets were the kind you get in a sealed bag from the refrigerated section of the grocery store. The worst part of the farro, which was cold and some grains were stuck together :/ With that said, I like the variety of ingredients that were used. I was in town for the thanksgiving weekend and happened to stumble across Churchkey's social media page and they had some 4roses 130th anniversary in! At $20 for a 2oz sample, the pricing is spot on. I only came for this and for a second drink, I asked the bartender for a whiskey sour. Well, let's just say I'll never be asking for one of those. It came with a glass full of ice cubes and an actual lemon! Hah, yes that is correct. I'll be back, next time I'll have to try the food. My friend did order the garlic curry wings? We walked in, and were immediately greeted and seated. We ordered drinks and reviewed the menus. I ordered the Gangnam style burger, which I've ordered before, with extra Kimchi. When I had my first bite, I couldn't believe how good it was. The burger and bacon were perfect and the teriyaki sauce, jalapeños, fried egg and sauce made it a true treat. The kimchi was delicious and really enhanced the burger. My wife is reviewing her salad. I just ate a the the Churchkey, in Modesto. I ordered a BLT Caesar salad. The food was okay, we ordered a few different things from the menu and they just didn't live up to the hype. Though I will say the pizza has a great crust. We ordered nachos, wings, and a kids cheese pizza. I would go back and order a pizza. The wings weren't a total disaster the crunch on them was great the flavor just wasn't there. My absolute favorite restaurant in the valley! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu! Their Buffalo cauliflower bites, any pizza or salad, YUM. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. The bartenders make the best drinks and the atmosphere is fantastic. Be careful of parking, as it is mostly street parking and tickets are frequent around here if you park in the lot next to them. Definitely check this out for lunch or dinner! read more

Placed a $100 order today and when we picked it up at 1pm we figured it was okay to eat there since the place was EMPTY. Apparently it's a policy to not allow paying customers to eat if they ordered to go. The bartender was so rude about it and told me if it wasn't a policy she wouldn't have told me that but I asked if that policy was online or on a menu and it's not. I eat here all the time and bring people when they visit me from out of town. Unfortunately it's not that good enough for me to continue coming when the staff is just rude. You could tell no one was trying to help us. It was a birthday lunch so it's unfortunate we got talked to like that. I won't be coming or recommending this place ever again. ***2.5 stars*** after seeing the menu, and location, i was quite excited to try this place after completing my epic marathon in modesto. unfortunately, my post-race celebratory meal fell a bit flat... parking wasn't bad, even though the dedicated lot was small, we lucked out and got a space quite easily. and there was street parking available as well, for those who couldn't get a space in the lot. i came with my hubby and friend, and upon arrival, there appeared to be a few parties ahead of us, but no hostess, so we were a bit confused....apparently, we were supposed to seat ourselves and then someone would come take our order. finding a table for 3 wasn't difficult - despite the fact that it was 13.00, this place was quite spacious inside, with plenty of tables outside as well. there were also a ton of runners who had just finished their respective races (marathon, half marathon, 5k) as i could see from the race tshirts and medals worn by other guests. we ordered within a few minutes, and that's when the wait began.... my friend and i only asked for water, but hubby ordered a diet coke, and waited nearly 30 minutes for this cold beverage to be brought out...i mean, how difficult is it to get a diet coke?? while we waited, i was regretting not ordering a pastry or something simple that didn't require cooking since i was getting pretty hungry. even though i had some electrolyte fluids and a few snacks immediately after the race, i had just run 26.2 miles, and walked a few blocks, so i was getting pretty hangry (and it was nearing 3 hrs since i had crossed the finish line....if you're a runner reading this, you know what i mean). the waiter came over a couple of times to inform us that our orders had not been forgotten, but the kitchen staff was just very busy, and backed up with the high number of orders. at one point, i actually ran out to the car and ate a bar b/c i just couldn't wait any longer and i didn't want to get lightheaded or deprive my muscles of much needed glycogen to begin the recovery process. more than an hour passed before our food finally arrived... hubby had ordered the cornerstone burger with tater tots, which arrived on a metal sheet pan...nicely presented, with lots of hollandaise. as for the taste, he said it was just average, and certainly not worth over an hour to prepare. i ordered the brunch special, huevos rancheros with soy-chorizo. when i asked the waiter, he told me that this wasn't a spicy dish, but when i tasted it, i did get a kick, maybe b/c i'm a spice wimp, but i was a bit disappointed. the rest of the dish tasted fine, but i felt it was a bit small, and i was still a bit hungry when i finished - mind you i ate every bite. fortunately, the bill came rather quickly, and we were able to pay and leave in a reasonable amount of time after finishing our food. the restrooms, i will say, were well-appointed and clean...however, they were out of paper towels, so i had to tell one of the staff members. it's possible we came on an off day, but i really was not impressed with this restaurant. slow service + mediocre food + smaller than average portions do not make for an ideal post-marathon meal. read more

The Central Valley of California gets a bad rap, and sometimes it deserves it and sometimes it doesn't. This is the type of place that thinks it's "so cool" because it's in Modesto, but honestly, there really is better. Those better places are in the Bay Area. This place -thinks- it is cool because there are not a lot of places like this (see the equally underwhelming Commonwealth). These places have an overinflated sense of self. The waiter was nervous. He served us dirty water. Gross. The wait for the food was also very long. Unless it's gotten better, don't think you can go quickly in and out --you'll end up here for here for over 90 minutes. They had great chicken wings. The burger was decent, but certainly not worth the price they charged. Then after another 15, we grabbed a passing server and told her we wanted to order drinks. She took exactly one drink order, ignored the rest of us and ran off. When she returned with the lone drink she tried to run away again without taking anyone else's drink order. Argh. On to the food. Our pizzas were messed up twice.
